Timberfall quickly followed Lionsky to where Moss-star and Rosekit were located and when they reached the pair the brown tom rushed forwards. Looking down he could see Moss-stars matted tabby pelt drenched with freezing water curled around helpless Rosekit whos mews had grown feeble and weak. Quickly he picked up Rosekit and then set the kit as Lionskys paws. "Take her back to camp please, there is no time to waste. Swallowsong, Geckoeyes, and I will carry Moss-star back to camp." His order was firm however he felt weak with grief for his beloved leader. Yes she had lost her mind as of recently but the large brown tom had been mentored from apprentice age by the now deceased warrior and held many fond memories of Moss-star. This was a tough blow for him to get over and he wished they had the time for mourn her for but a moment. However the winds started to howl through the trees and the rain started to fall even harsher. They needed to return to camp before it was to dangerous for them to even be out in the storm. Moving to Moss-stars side he beckoned the two other cats to quickly help him so they could return home.
Fallowleaf reached the hollow just as the storm picked up and she rushed into the medicine cats den dripping wet and shivering profusly. "I have Emberkit", she announced to both Stoneshadow and Viperfang as she sat the kit down on a small patch of dry moss.
Viperfang gasped when Fallowleaf rushed into the cave carrying her kit. "Oh my Emberkit!", she exclaimed and rushed forth covering her kit with rough licks trying to warm up his frozen wet body.

{{ Emberkit is a tom lol Rosekit is a she-cat }}
Viperfang purred loudly as she warmed her kit up and gave a grateful look to Fallowleaf. She then sat up from licking Emberkit and looked to Stoneshadow. "Will he be okay?", she asked the medicine cat wanting the tom to inspect her kit to make sure he was still healthy.

Blinking her eyes with affirmation, she gently raised Rosekit by the scruff. The kit let out a feeble whine in response, but for the most part was weakly quiet. Lionsky gave a stern look towards Moss-star's body before disappearing through the undergrowth .. She ducked her head to enter through vine and moss covered entrance, ear flicking. Her muscles felt so worn and seeing the hollow again made her yearn for her cozy nest. Lionsky shook her head. Those thoughts only reminded her of her own discomfort and were futile in the longrun. Hurrying to the medicine cats' den, she entered the cave and set Rosekit down. "She's been out longer than her brother, I moved as fast as I could." She meowed, dipping her head. Even though she was still cold and wet it was relieving to finally be sheltered from the heavy rain inside the den.

By the time Rosekit made it back to camp and was set down in the medicine cats den she was almost as still as a rock. Despite the shallow rise and fall of her chest Rosekits movements were non-existent. When Stoneshadow started to warm her up by licking her fur in the opposite direction she managed to give a feeble mew before falling silent once again. The poor little she-kit felt frozen stiff from the cold weather and she was weak from holding onto dear life all this time.
"You can stay if you like, but if Stoneshadow doesn't agree you'll have to stay in the warriors den. I dont want to crowd him as he cares for the kits", Viperfang meowed kindly to her mate before focusing her attention back on Rosekit after moving Emberkit to her belly with the rest of her kits.

After a while of furious licking the little russet she-cat was starting to warm up and her body started to, in a way, dethaw. As warm blood started to pump through her veins the little she-cat started to cry out even louder and started to bob her head around looking for her mother. She could scent her somewhere close by and all the kit wanted was to suckle at her mothers belly.

Lionsky, standing at the den entrance, watched Rosekit reunite with her siblings. A wave of relief passed over her knowing she had carried out her duties. Wind whipped at her pelt from the outside, sending shivers down her spine. She let out a subtle huff, turning around and sitting. It wouln't be long before then rest of the patrol and Timberfall returned with the elder leader's body.

Viperfang purred loudly as she looked down at all four of her kits once again. She was so relieved to see them all back nestled up against her belly. "Thank you, all of you!", the queen meowed looking from Stoneshadow to the two warriors who had returned her kits to her. "Where did you find them?", she asked curiously looking at Lionsky seeing that Fallowleaf was busy grooming her long fur so it would dry quicker.
{{ I dont want to rush anything but I'm curious as to see how the clan will react to Moss-stars death }}
Timberfall padded into camp his jaws clamped firmly at Moss-stars pelt, the other warriors dutifully helping him carry her into camp. Moving to an elevated part of the camp Timberfall set down Moss-star under the shelter of an overhanging flat rock. "Geckoeyes, and Swallowsong please inform the clan and then take shelter in your nests. Once the storm clears we will have a ceremony..." with that said the large dark brown tom crouched down next to Moss-stars body and began to carefully groom it. He wasnted her to look nice before the clan, not a matted mess.

Lionsky perked up at the queen's words. She had been lost deep in her own thought, watching the camp's activity. Timberfall and the warriors were transporting the fallen leader and her heart ached with sorrow, it was a lot to bear. She turned around, getting to her paws again. "They were some ways off from the Tangle Hollow. I can't say I know how they got there." Her golden colored tail swished along the cool cave floor. "The nursery cave, maybe.. there could've been some passages small enough for a kit to slip through..." She meowed trailing off in ponder.
(yeah, same)
The sand-colored tom perked up. Moss-star? The patrol had carried her limp figure through the camp, resting her under a covered rocky overhang. He didn't know he felt, there was only a swell of puzzlement and confusion swirling in his chest. Padding up to Swallowsong, Honeybrook's expression was bemuse and his gaze flickered between the pale tan she-cat and Moss-star up above. "What happened?" He mewed, eyes wide.

[SO SO SORRY ABOUT MY ABSENCE. I'm trying to raise two kittens currently and it is v v v hard lol.]
Emberkit squirmed next to his mothers belly. He was still too cold to nurse, but he was warming up quickly next to his siblings. He snuggled up close to Falconkit, who was mostly dry by this point. He bobbed his head around and ended up stuffing most of his body under his mother.
Swallowsong and Geckoeyes nodded solemnly to Timberfall and moved off to spread the word.
Swallowsong looked at Honeybrook with sad eyes. "She lost her ninth life protecting the kits from the storm. A noble act." Her voice was heavy with loss. Yes, Moss-star had got a bit cookoo in the last few years, but she was always trying to do the best for her clan- and Swallowsong respected her for that.
Geckoeyes made his rounds throughout the cats, pelt drenched. He felt numb under the pounding rain, but he knew that it was his duty to inform the clan of their loss. He repeated the same speech to every cat he spoke to- voice hollow by the time he was finished. "Moss-star has lost her last life. Her ceremony will commence whenever the rain lets up." As he finished speaking to the last cat, his eyes felt as if they were weighted down by boulders. His shoulders slumped heavily and he made a bee-line for the warriors den, and more specifically his warm nest. He curled up in the mossy plot and laid there, mind racing at 100 miles an hour. At this rate, he would never find sleep.
Hareleap sat underneath a jut out, His pelt was flatted down from the heavy rain, but he was quickly drying. He watched a few cats mill around, most seeking shelter, while others were forced out into the freezing wall of precipitation to perform tasks. Geckoeyes had informed him about the vigil for Moss-star. Hareleap was saddened by the loss of a cat- but he wasn't too upset about it being his leader. Moss-star had lost her touch as leader long ago in his opinion, and it was about time that a younger mind took over the clan.
Chickadeewing sat just inside the warriors den and looked out, contemplating the days events. Her odd eyes were hard and unfeeling, clearly the cat was trying to keep her composure. She was saddened by the loss of her leader, as any cat would be. Moss-star had given her last life to save the two newborn kittens, knowing that the didn't stand a chance without her. It was a noble gesture- especially to a clan who had slowly turned against her in the recent moons. Chickadeewing had always done her best to support her leader, and would continue to do so in her death- she prayed to Starclan that the old she-cat live happily among them and with that, turned and plopped down in her nest. She squeezed her eyes shut and wrapped her tail around herself. She fell in to a light- and anguished slumber.

To say that Iceberry was shocked was an understatement. The pale warrior thought that Mossstar would go peacefully, in her sleep, and that she had at least a few more moons to live, long enough for Viperfangs kits to remember her. The she cat shook her head in horror, not believing it, and got up, wanting to find Timberfall and question the tom. He would know if this horrid news was true or not- but why would Geckoeyes lie? He was a fairly truthful warrior, and she doubted that he would lie flat out to his brother. The defeat in the toms posture was all to real as well. She looked at Viperfang with wide, worried eyes. How could this happen?
Stoneshadow had shown no emotion when his brother had delivered the dreary news. The young medicine cat had been preparing for this day since his old mentor passed on, and, although it was horrible news, he knew that he had to help with the burial and had to keep his emotions under raps until he could be alone. The dark furred medicine cat let out a soft sigh, the only hint that the tom was truly upset, before settling into his own nest, watching the silhouettes of his clanmates slowly make their way back to their dens.

[kittens! sweet! what breed are they? I have two cats but they're all grown up now lol )
"The kits.." Honeybrook echoed, trailing off in thought. He couldn't pinpoint how he felt nor did he know how to describe it. Even though the leader was old in age the tom had just never expected her to join StarClan so soon. His gaze rested on her lifeless body and memories flooded his mind. It felt like just yesterday that he was enduring her constant disciplines. As an apprentice it wasn't rare for Honeybrook to cheat on his duties or to disobey a warrior. On one occasion Moss-star had him sleep with the kits and supervise over them for a whole moon. Mortifying.. Letting out a sigh, the tom shook his head. "How do you think Timberfall will fare?" He asked, tail flicking up towards the solid brown tom. "I mean.. is he ready to lead?" Honeybrook had been an apprentice alongside the soon-to-be leader. They were far from close, but he recognized that Timberfall had a knack for management and control. Something a leader would need for the clan to flourish.

[They're nothing specific. I work at a local humane society and they were brought in. One's name is Ghost. He's all white and iv'e had him for 2 1/2 weeks. He came in just after he was born because his mom rejected the litter. He was the only survivor. The other one's name is Toodles and she is a dark marble tabby about 3 weeks old. She just came in monday after he mom abandoned her.]
Swallowsong shrugged helplessly. "Only time will tell. You will never know how a cat handles that position until he is thrown in head first."

Seeing that all the patrols were back and now that she had mostly dried out her long fur, Fallowleaf made a be-line for the warriors den. I wouldn't be long and the rains would let up and they would sit vigil for their fallen leader. Once inside the shelter of the warriors den Fallowleaf gave a quick shake to rain that had fallen on her pelt going from one den to the other. Looking around her eyes landed on Geckoeyes pelt and she made her way over to the nest right next to his. She purred a soft greeting to the tom before settling down pressed up against him for comfort and warmth. Not quite sleepy she began to groom his pelt until she began sleepy enough to take a nap.
Timberfall finished grooming Moss-stars body and he sat up looking at the old she-cats lifeless form. He would be clan leader now that she was gone and that was heavy on his mind. He was torn between excitement about finally being clan leader and sorrow for his friend, mentor, and leader. The large brown tom starred for a long moment before turning away and walking into the rain straight for his new den. He needed a minute to think and to absorb what had happened. Most of all he needed comfort, and all he could think about was Iceberry.
Viperfang was shocked by the news and returned Iceberrys look with the same expression. The clan leader had gave up her final life to save her kits, to Viperfang that was the nobelest thing a cat could ever do. "She will be honored like the true warrior she was", the queen meowed. "As soon as the rain lets up I will go say my farewells to her. Will you watch the kits when I leave?", she asked her mate Stormgaze as she looked from Iceberry to him.
Cavegrowl was shocked by the new of Moss-stars death, but showed no expression. Starclan couldn't have called her away at a better time. The clan needed a stronger younger cat to lead them and now that she was out of the picture the clan had a chance to thrive. He wasn't too thrilled with Timberfall being the new clan leader, he thought he himself would make a fine leader, but the dark long-haired tom didn't stand a chance. He would have to battle the strong soon-to-be deputy possibly to the death for his position and then expect the clan to follow him loyally. Cavegrowls ambitions didn't fly that high and he decided that he would just settle until the perfect time arrived. Curling up in his nest within the warriors den the toms amber eyes glowed as he looked out the entrance into the rain deep in thought.

[They're super cute though, I'll try and get some pics up of them somewhere]
Geckoeyes snuggled next to Fallowleaf as she sunk down into the nest next to him. The tension eased from his body as she began to groom his slicked down fur. The large tom let out a deep purr and licked her ear before wrapping his tail around her. His swirly green orbs were flat and exhausted, but he was finally able to let his eyelids fall and sleep overtook him quickly.

(sweetclover recommended this roleplay to me, and it looks really interesting!)
Name:: Duskfeather Age:: 26 moons Gender:: Tom Rank:: Warrior Description:: Duskfeather is a tall, long-furred tom. His pelt is a darker grey with black tabby stripes lining it. The only white he has on him are the toes of his paws, and a slight lightening around his muzzle. He has a faint scar that traces across his right flank, and his eyes are a yellow-amber. Personality:: Duskfeather is a quite, yet sarcastic, tom. He prefers to hang out with a few select clanmates, and will grow closer to them, but leave the rest of the clan out. Because of this, he will often feel more loyalty to his friends than his leader and other clanmates. Duskfeather often feels like he need to make up for his sister's rebellious spirit and will often fill in her place on patrols when she feels like doing something else. He is terrified of losing loved ones, especially after his sister Fawnpaw died when they were just new apprentices. Mate/Crush:: Open Kin/Kits:: He was born in a litter of three, however, his sister Fawnpaw died as an apprentice due to greencough. Echofang still lives, but Duskfeather is terrified of losing her as well. Other:: Tangled Hearts
Name:: Echofang Age:: 26 moons Gender:: She-cat Rank:: Warrior Description:: Echofang is a lean, long-furred she-cat. Her pelt is a mixed of ginger and white, with darker ginger stripes. All of her underbelly and muzzle are white, as well as three of her paws and her tail tip. Her eyes are a bluish-green and her nose is a light rose color. Personality:: Echofang is a rebellious she-cat, preferring to do her own thing than follow a leader or deputy's order. However, she can be quite humbled when forced into situation where she doesn't know how to move forward, and will often choose the more harmful of the two options. She has a close relationship with her brother, and he is one of the only cats who can compete with her sharp tongue. Echofang, no matter how cranky she gets, will always put her clanmates ahead of herself, and will choose what she thinks is best, even if it goes against the leader's will. Mate/Crush:: none Kin/Kits:: Her brother is Duskfeather. Other:: Tangled Hearts
Name:: Lizardmask Age:: 38 moons Gender:: Tom Rank:: Warrior Description:: Lizardmask is a muscular, long-furred tom. His pelt is mostly dark brown with white patches along his legs, underbelly, muzzle, and tail. He has darker tabby stripes and dark yellow-green eyes. The tips of his ear are a very dark brown, almost black color, a color that is repeated on a spot just above his dark red nose. He has a smaller scar on his left flank that was never properly heal from a battle. Personality:: Lizardmask is a strict rule follower, choosing to follow a leader's word even if he disagrees with it on a moral level. The tom likes to believe he has an air of nobility around him, that makes him liked by his clanmates, but the reality is that this mindset often drives more people away than it attracts. One of the things he values most in his clanmates is their decisions to follow a clanmates decision over one they come up with themselves. Because of this, Lizardmask often hides his ideas, choosing to let others make the choices for him. Mate/Crush:: Open Kin/Kits:: Open Other:: Tangled Hearts
Name:: Silverpaw Age:: 9 moons Gender:: She-cat Rank:: Apprentice Description:: Silverpaw is a small apprentice, her short legs giving her a disadvantage against taller opponents. Like her name implies, her pelt is a soft silver grey with darker tabby stripes decorating it. She has a white chest and white paws, and her left ear has a small tick in it from a wound inflicted by a thorn that never healed properly. Her nose is a faded grey color and her eyes are a deep blue. Personality:: Silverpaw is a quite and shy she-cat, preferring to train and hunt alone than with a mob of other apprentices. She is much more of a thinker than a fighter, and while her opponents can easily beat her in a competition on physical strength, she can often hold her own, using her brain alongside her claws. Silverpaw is extremely socially awkward, feeling a severe disconnect with her clanmates and fellow apprentices. This causes her to often feel lonely, especially since she has no littermates to share her feelings with. Mate/Crush:: Open Kin/Kits:: Open Other:: Tangled Hearts

(Thanks! Here are some starters for my cats.)
Lizardmask sat outside in a state of shock, still not over the fact that his leader was gone. Rain dripped down soaking through his thick fur, and chilling the tom to his core. He couldn't help feel like Moss-star's passing would only make the rift in the clan grow. Lifting his gaze heavenwards, Lizardmask let his mind wander off, mourning the life of a great leader.
_____
Echofang sat in the warriors den trying to keep her bottled up energy from exploding outwards. Though the warrior knew it was better for her health to stay safe and dry, part of her argued that she should be out on the territory trying to provide for the crippled clan. Only her brother’s pleading had forced her to retire and let the rest of the clan mourn their crazed leader's death. Sighing the ginger she-cat flipped over onto her side, trying to turn away from the den's entrance.
_____
Duskfeather stretched inside the safety of the warrior den fearing for the outcome of the devastating events. He had never been particularly fond of the older leader, but he'd never imagined she'd die so suddenly. Most of all, he was scared for his sister. He knew that Echofang felt little to no sorrow for the leader's passing, and worried what the clan would think about her if they knew just how little respect she'd held for the she-cat. Settling down into the moss bedding, the grey tabby hoped that the clan could bounce back after this.
____
Silverpaw curled herself up in the apprentice den, trying to make herself as small as possible. The silver she-cat has never imagined that her leader would pass on during her lifetime, let alone while she was still just an apprentice. The shy tabby was on the verge of passing out due just from the shock of the whole situation.

Cavegrowl watched as the storm started to lighten up and it wasn't long till the rain finally stopped all together. As the clouds moved south the sky began to clear and a cold fur-fluffing breeze blew through the forest. Leaf-bare was not far off. With the moon rising the dark grey long-haired tom rose to his paws and pushed his way out of the warriors den. Small water dropplets fell here and there from the trees but other than that there was no more rain. Her dark amber eyes watched as the elders carried Moss-star out from under the overhang and into the open. They placed her in the center of camp where the moonlight touched her tabby pelt. It was time. Happy that she was no longer leader Cavegrowl still moved forwards and paid his respects to the deceased leader.
Fallowleaf had fallen into a light sleep curled up with Geckoeyes in the back of the warriors den. Eyes still closed she heard someone leave the warriors den and when she recognized that it was no longer raining she opened her eyes, lifted her head, and yawned. Nosing Geckoeyes gently to wake him, she spoke softly, "The rain has stopped it is time for Moss-stars vigil."
Willowpaw pushed her way back into the medicine cats den and looked around for Viperfang. The apprentice had just finished preparing Moss-stars body for the vigil and burial, Stoneshadows instructions guiding her through it. Her mind was on the queen, who had seemed very adamant about going and paying her respects to the fallen cat who saved her kits. "Viperfang, the rain has let up and Moss-star has been moved into the camp clearing", she meowed softly as to not wake the sleeping kits.
Viperfangs head rose at the call of her name and listened to what Willowpaw had to say to her. "Will you watch the kits for me. I wont be gone long", the queen meowed not wanting to leave the kits alone especially after what had recently just happened. When Willowpaw nodded and moved to take her place Viperfang rose and her newly slimmed body left the medicine cats den and headed into the camp clearing straight for Moss-stars body.
With Viperfang now gone, Willowpaw took her place curling her warm body around the kits her long white and pale grey fur really popping out against the dark colored kits. With her tail she curled it around them so they were all enclosed within the apprenticed grasp.
Timberfall lay in the leaders den, broad head on his large brown paws. The toms eye were open and he was deep in thought. He would need to choose a new deputy before moonhigh as was their custom, and he wasn't about to break it. There were multiple options and he felt torn on who to choose. If they out lived him, then they would be the clans next leader. Weighted by his choices the tom didn't move and continued to stay deep in thought.

Geckoeyes' eyes flicked open quickly as Fallowleaf prodded him gently. He raised his head and yawned heavily, shaking off the fog of sleep. He raised his hind quarters and stretched out his body luxuriously. He was stiff from the cold rain, and he was still a little damp. As he got to his feet and twined his tail with Fallowleaf's quickly, drawing and giving strength. The fallen leader was a little crazy, but her last act was a noble one, and that is what deserved the unified sadness of her slowly dividing clan. He dipped his head to Fallowleaf and responded to her comment with a simple question, "You ready?" His blue green eyes swirled with emotion as he looked at the she-cat.
Chickadeewing awoke as she heard Fallowleaf mumble to Geckoeyes. She stood and stretched, not feeling rested at all. She padded out in to the clearing and her eyes quickly found and rested on her beloved leader. Her ears flattened slightly and her pupils grew in sadness. Chickadeewing sat on the sidelines of the quickly gathering clan, awaiting her turn to pay her respects.
Hareleap emerged from under the rocky overhang and sat on the outskirts of the group of cats. He didn't feel much need to pay his respects. Yes, the leader had given her last life in one great hurrah, but she had done plenty before that to counteract her loyal til' the end death- in his opinion, at least. His minty eyes were dark as he was attempting to emanate the same sadness that was flowing through the clan.
Swallowsong had already joined the ever-growing mass of cats in the clearing. Her light tan tabby coat looked as flawless as always, showing no signs of the earlier panic and storm. She had helped carry Moss-star back to camp, so the shock of seeing her body had worn off, but her sadness still swamped her. She watched her clanmates gather, seeing the different emotions wash across their faces. There were many looks of sadness and remorse, others seemed to be torn on how they felt.
Emberkit squirmed slightly as the warmth of his mother disappeared, but was quickly filled with the warmth of another cat. He kneaded the new cats thick, long fur, happy to be able to bury himself in it.

Lionsky rose from her quiet perch, leaping off the rocky outcrop. She sat calmly at the outskirts of the group of cats, watching the moon slink up into the sky. Occasionally the clouds would drift past, illuminating the hollow in a wash moonlight. When it was her turn to send her regards to the fallen leader, Lionsky made her way over, nuzzling her nose in Moss-star's pale tabby fur. May you find happy days and bountiful hunting. She sat silently, reminiscing and thanking the she-cat for saving the kits. Her eyes were closed peacefully and her paws tucked under her chest.
Honeybrook was sprawled out on his side, watching the clan from a distance. He lacked the spirit get to his paws and was instead wallowing in his own thoughts. He just hoped that Timberfall and the new deputy would lead TangleClan with a strong vigor. They couldn't let those dirty Marshland cats carry out any threat, imminent or not.

Fallowleaf nodded and let Geckoeyes lead the way out of the warriors den and into the camp clearing. As they left the shelter of the warriors den a strong cold wind ruffled the mottled she-cats fur causing her to press up against Geckoeyes for warmth. Waiting for her turn the she-cat then moved forth away from the warmth of the tom and pressed her nose into Moss-stars fur. 'May your spirit join the ranks of Starclan peacefully.' Giving the fallen leader a respectful lick to the shoulder she backed away so that the others could have their turn.
Viperfang was quick in giving her respects to Moss-star and was already headed back to her kits. The queen didn't want to leave them long out of fear of loosing them like last time. She trusted Willowpaw with her kits but the queen just couldn't bring herself to leave her kits for longer than she had to. Pushing her way back into the medicinecat den she purred a thank you to Willowpaw before quickly inspecting each kit, making sure to give them all a thorough washing.
Willowpaw rose from her spot letting the queen care for her kits and padded out into the camp clearing. Most of the clan had gathered to say goodbye to their old leader. The apprentices eyes then wondered up to the leaders den and she watched as Timberfall pushed his way out through the overhanging vines and looked down at the clan.
As Timberfall looked down at the clan he knew that it was time. The moon was rising higher in the sky and it wouldn't be long till monnhigh came and went. Leaping up onto highrock the large brown tom howled loud enough for everyone to hear. "LET ALL CATS OLD ENOUGH TO CATCH THEIR OWN PREY GATHER BENEATH HIGHROCK FOR A CLAN MEETING." With that said he waited for the last of them to gather before he spoke again.
Cavegrowl heard Timberfalls call for the clan meeting and went and sat on top a large flat rock that had already started to dry from the rains earlier. The charcoal grey toms mind wondered as to who Timberfall would be choosing as their new deputy.
