Just reread GoldenClan and???? I didn't realize I put so many hard metaphors in there. I know I was really leaning into simile with ice and fire and sunsets and comparing opposites (that's the entire point of what GoldenClan is about and values after all) but like?? MAN I dropped some real nice metaphor at some points that I do NOT remember doing.

Also I love love love Lionfur even more than I did he's such a bean. Him sitting there talking to soothe Gravelsplash, then Bunny? Him speaking just loud enough that Dustypaw can hear him praise him without being obvious that he was supposed to hear? beautiful man.

Also I forgot how MUCH StarClan was in those first ten parts like. That was so fun!! I should have leaned into that so much harder during Hollystar's recent part but I FORGOT how much I was allowed to do with this project. I'm def gonna remember that for the future.

GoldenClan 20! It is... a little longer than intended (3.3k AHHHH) but I put an ENTIRE heist in there. AND had two apprentices fighting the good fight over ableism. You're welcome.

I'm attaching this chapter here. Even if you haven't read the rest of GoldenClan, this moon works great as a standalone and I ask you to give it a try! If you like this, there's 19 other (shorter) parts up on the first page~ If you don't, I'm totally open to constructive criticism and would love love love to have some other opinions on how to improve it!
(Do note tho that all my Clangen works are not edited in any way, so please no nitpicking grammar; that's my only limit to critique tho. and do point out if it's chronic errors like tense, hanging clauses ect. It's always hardest to see those kinds of things in your own work, even in revision~)

Dustysun's dreams itched.

He'd been a full medicine cat for what? Five suns? Six? And already his dreams were crawling with StarClan cats. Lionfur had warned him that his sporadic dreams would become routine, but Dustysun hadn't thought that meant every night.

There were no prophecies, no omens; his dreams held formless whispers, the brush of pelts, and familiar scents he couldn't place. He saw through other cat's eyes, which Lionfur said was either a StarClan cat's memories or the dreams of his Clanmates, but it was impossible to tell the difference when each lasted only a heartbeat.

When he woke, it felt like he hadn't slept at all.

"I feel like I'm sneezing Stardust," he muttered when he woke up that morning, groggy and itchy, like his nose and tongue were covered in fur.

"It gets easier," Lionfur said, stretching, but Dustysun could see the haunted look in his mentor's pale eyes, knew he too suffered through the same mash of dreams Dustysun did. His respect for Lionfur grew as the white-and-ginger healer shook his fur, blinked, and forced the dream-haze away.

Dustysun tried to do the same, rising and shaking the Stardust from his fur. But half-way through grooming he froze, suddenly remembering. One of the tumble of images in his dream stuck like honey, dripping ice-melt down his spine. "Lionfur," he said softly. "I think StarClan might have sent me an omen."

"Right. Everyone remembers their positions?"

Valleyplume dug her claws into the dry soil in front of the chain-link fence, glaring at the broken building behind it. She wanted to snap, but Clearfluff beat her to it: "We need to be quick. In and out. Don't let them corner you into a long fight. As soon as you hear the signal, break off and retreat."

"Yeah, yeah," Dreamspring said, her hackles raised as if they were already in the thick of battle. "We outnumber them, we have the element of surprise, let's just get this over with."

Nearly all of GoldenClan's fighting force was standing here, lined up against the fence. Only Hollowbrook, Lionfur and Gingerpaw had stayed back in camp. Dustysun insisted on joining them, claiming StarClan wanted him to be there for the fight.

Valleyplume was in charge of protecting her mouse-brained brother. He looked scared, which was good; he was a healer with not a lick of battle training, fear would make him cautious. Still, she stepped closer to his side, pushing her fur into his, tapping her tail against his side. I'm here, the touches said, and she felt some of his fear bleed away.

"GoldenClan! Forward!" Hollystar commanded, and as a wave of fur the warriors climbed the chain-linked fence and dropped to the other side. Valleyplume immediately dropped into a defensive position while she waited for Dustysun to follow behind her, but the yard inside the fence was empty. At least for now.

"Where is he?" Dustysun was breathing heavily already, though how much of that was from exertion and how much from anxiety she couldn't tell. She touched her tail to his brown flank again and he stood taller, looking around, then pointed with towards one of the building's fallen walls.

Hollystar saw the signal and nodded, leading the way with Brightclaw at her side. Valleyplume followed the pair a tree-length behind, sticking close to Dustysun's flank. The others, led by Clearfluff, spread out around the open yard, ready to intercept any cats that tried to attack.

Dustysun said there weren't many cats in the carrionplace. He also said they were keeping an old tomcat prisoner, barely alive and poisoned to keep him from escaping. That was the cat StarClan asked him to save, who GoldenClan was now attempting to rescue.

The yard was silent, still. GoldenClan's warriors were planted like seeds, ready to spring into action once the fighting spilled out of the building. Valleyplume tried to focus only on Dustysun and the pair of cats in front of her, her eyes only on her part of the mission.

Protect Dustysun. Locate the room the tomcat was being held in. Get Dustysun out before they could be pinned down.

Hollystar and Brightclaw reached the building, inching towards a gap torn away from the ragged, metal sheeting. Hollystar went in first and a few heartbeats later, Brightclaw was signaling the all clear, waiting for Valleyplume and Dustysun to come closer before she too entered the building. "Remember: as soon as the fighting starts, run back here. I'll cover you."

It was all she could do, the last communication they could afford before the pair of siblings slipped in behind and stealthed forward. Now that they were inside, Valleyplume and Dustysun would lead the way. Only Dustysun knew where the tomcat was being held, and only then from blurry visions that he said were nearly impossible to decipher without seeing where they overlapped with reality... whatever that meant. He knew the way, and that was what mattered. So after they were inside the building, Valleyplume was forced to take point, Dustysun following close behind, while Hollystar and Brightclaw covered their escape route.

Once Owlpool determined that the cats didn't have any scouts watching the yard, she'd deduced that their best shot at getting everyone out safely was to send a small group inside while the others waited in the yard. If they could reach their target without being spotted and sneak him out, all the better. And even if they did get caught mid-way through the operation, the open ground of the yard favored GoldenClan. Fighting inside the building, the rogue's home turf, would negate any advantage the warriors might have had with numbers or skill. So they would try and do things sneaky, and run if they were discovered.

It was a good plan, but sneaking across the metal floors that were cold on her paw-pads with the echoing clinks and clunks and the smell of decay thick on her tongue, each heartbeat heavy with the fear of discovery... Valleyplume felt trapped here. Hunted. At least an honest brawl would have put less strain on her thumping heart.

A sound from her left. She skittered, pressing Dustysun against the wall, then forced herself to relax when the sound came to be a steady dripping of water onto a metal sheet. Thwung, thwing, thwing. Valleyplume signed--another reason she was chosen to be Dustysun's escort, their silent communication a perfect tool for the mission--are we close?

The healer closed his eyes, his brown spotted pelt twitching. It was like he was walking without moving his legs. Looks familiar, he signed back, wrinkling his nose. Left? The directional poke of his tail wobbled, unsure. Valleyplume glared and he only shrugged in return.

They went left, down a narrower hallway that reeked of cat. Valleyplume walked cautiously, expecting rogues to attack at any moment, and when Dustysun poked her hind paw she jumped several tail-lengths in the air and only barely managed to clamp down on a yowl of surprise.

Dustysun urgently pointed to a door a tree-length down the hall, mouthing, “there!” His eyes were wide and sparkling with starlight at the edges, the perfect corona of an eclipse. She trusted him. She moved forward, creeping the last tail-length to the doorway and lowering herself tight to the floor to peek inside.

A battle-scarred tomcat sat inside, spread out in the single beam of sunlight that poked through the broken roof. It took Valleyplume a few scans to see the cat curled in the shadows, as his dark tabby fur and scrawny, still form rendered him nearly invisible. Slowly, silently, she pulled away from the door frame back into the hallway, where the three others clumped defensively. He’s there, she signed to Dustysun. To the others, she sent in the simpler battle-sign all warriors learned to communicate in the field: one enemy.

Hollystar nodded. She gave her own orders: sneak attack, flank them, and then they moved in.

The poor tomcat didn’t know what hit him. Hollystar pounced from one side, Brightclaw covered the other, and within heartbeats the two mollies had him pinned down, his muzzle pressed into the floor. Valleyplume hadn’t even had to leave Dustysun’s side.

Fighting the rogues wasn’t their objective, though, it was the black tomcat that, having heard the commotion, was struggling to stand.

“Hey, hey,” Dustysun said, his voice barely over a whisper. “It’s alright, we’re here to help you.”

The elderly black tom swiped with a paw. He was off balance and weak--from age, from starvation, from poison if Dustysun’s interpretation of StarClan’s message was right--but Dustysun still would have been slashed across the face if Valleyplume hadn’t knocked the tomcat’s claws away with her own paw. “Seriously!” she hissed. “We are trying to rescue you, so please don’t make it harder than it has to be.”

Her words got through the foggy fever that covered his silver eyes and he slumped back. “Oh, thank StarClan.” Now that the threat of danger had passed, he seemed to be falling into a stupor, his legs shaking as his eyes glazed back over.

Valleyplume poked him, sharply, on the shoulder. “We can’t afford to carry you out, you’re gonna have to help us out here,” she said. She prodded the old cat to his paws, trying to be gentle, but also recognizing that the GoldenClan rescue party was on borrowed time. As soon as Hollystar and Brightclaw let the scarred tomcat go--and they had to let him go, they couldn’t take him prisoner and they weren't about to kill him in cold blood--all the rogues in earshot would be on their tails, baying for blood.

So Valleyplume gritted her teeth and kept prodding, until the black tabby was on his paws, leaning against Dustysun’s flank. From the grimace on Dustysun’s face, the tom was barely able to keep on his own paws. Once they were as mobile as they could get, Valleyplume signaled to Hollystar. “We’ll give you ten heartbeats, then we’ll let this one go. May StarClan speed your paws.”

Like going in, Valleyplume went first. But this time, she didn’t bother sneaking about, instead pushing forward as fast as Dustysun and the tabby could follow. She’d carefully watched their path in, and so was able to guide them through the turns back until--

“Intruders!”

“Go!” That was Brightclaw’s voice, echoing down the metal hallways, and soon the two mollies were sprinting up beside them, claws out, fangs bared.

And StarClan did guide their path. Their group only ran into one other group: a pair of rogues that Brightclaw and Hollystar engaged only long enough for Dustysun and the black tabby tom to stagger by with Valleyplume hovering close before pushing away before they got too far.

Another trio of rogues caught them right as they were trying to shove the tabby tom through the gap in the metal they’d entered through. Valleyplume hissed, forcing her way through the gap beside him--the sharp metal ripped a thin cut across her flank as she squeezed past, smarting against the breeze--and grabbed his scruff from the other side, yanking him free of the building.

“Clearfluff!” Valleyplume shouted, even as she threw her shoulder under his chest, pushing him back to his paws. GoldenClan scent descended in a flood: Owlpool and Dreamspring there to help push the trio of rogues back and cover Hollystar and Brightclaw’s retreat.

Dustysun had exited the building first and was already half-way across the yard in a dead sprint, fleeing back to the fence line as he was instructed to do if a battle broke out. Valleyplume breathed a sigh of relief that her brother had made it out of danger, at least. It would be hard enough to protect their rescued prisoner in the fight, and the healer would have only slowed them down at this point in the mission.

Screeches and caterwauls rang in Valleyplume’s ears as she picked her way through the scattered piles of tussling cats, practically carrying the black tomcat on her back. Her claws unsheathed, ripping into the earth.

Burnetblossom yowled right beside her with a black and white molly pinning her to the ground, her paw raised, and Valleyplume wanted so badly to jump into the fray, add her claws to the pile. She turned her head away, focusing only on the fence. That was her goal. Reach the fence and the battle was over, reach the fence and Hollystar would pull the GoldenClan cats away.

Reach the fence, Valleyplume, and you’ll save them all.

Valleyplume growled and pushed faster. The screeching behind her sped her paws, gave her strength. Once they reached the outer bounds of the sprawling battle, Dustysun raced up to help carry the black tomcat. They made better progress together, and eventually there was only that one last barrier. “C’mon, one last push,” Valleyplume panted. She didn’t know if the encouragement was meant for the fever-ridden elder, her brother, or herself.

She got to the top and reached down, Dustysun pushed up, and between the two of them managed to haul the tomcat over the fence. Getting down was the easy part, even if Valleyplume would certainly have bruises from breaking the elder’s fall.

It was Dustysun who sent the signal, a trio of sharp yowls that carried over the yard. Hollystar’s echoed calls for retreat weren’t as loud, but the effect was the same: GoldenClan’s warriors broke from the fight, racing back to the fence line and over the top, less in a wave and more like individual spatterings of rain.

Hollystar and Clearfluff remained in the yard until every other cat had cleared the fence. But they hadn’t needed to guard the GoldenClan retreat: the rogues didn’t follow the fleeing warriors, instead howling and calling victory as their opponents turned tail.

In the end, Owlpool’s plan had worked perfectly. A few cats had some scratches and scuffs, but their number advantage and the open terrain meant the rogues couldn’t pin any cat down for long. She learned that Clearfluff had tackled the black-and-white molly off Burnetblossom only seconds after Valleyplume turned away. “Not half bad for the Clan’s youngest warrior,” the gruff deputy had said, which made Valleyplume proud she hadn’t given in to her reckless urge to fight.

The black tabby tom was weak, but after a few days, Lionfur announced he was stable. He was still very old and very weak and the poison was still in his system, but he was talking and eating and taking fluids, all things that Dustysun said were good signs pointing to eventual recovery.

“His name is Ivysnap. He’s a GoldenClan warrior from before, like Brooktalon was. He’s glad to finally be home.”

“I’m visually impaired,” Marigoldpaw said.

“Isn’t that what I said?” Burnetblossom replied, tipping her head.

Gingerpaw could see the signs of his sister’s growing anger, and even if he was tired to the bone, pulled himself up to step in. Couldn’t his Clanmates last one day without fighting between themselves?

Gingerpaw spent the whole afternoon with Hollystar, Morningstar, and the HatchClan mediator Eaglesong, trying to negotiate a peace between the two Clans. They’ve been at a stalemate for the entire moon: no fighting, but they couldn’t find a compromise either.

It’s not like they could break Hollowbrook in two and let each Clan have half of her.

“No! You said I was half-blind!” Marigoldpaw said, and though Gingerpaw was behind her and couldn’t see her face, he caught every word as she signed at the same time. It was an unintentional thing, complete habit, as she didn’t even know Gingerpaw was around. It warmed his heart to know that, like him, sign was such a part of how she communicated that she used it without thinking.

He could see Burnetblossom’s face, though, and he had a lot more practice reading the words off cat’s mouths: “Isn’t that the same thing?”

“It’s not the same at all,” Marigoldpaw said, her sign growing sharp to match the angles of her snarl.

“Stop,” Gingerpaw said. His voice always makes cats turn. Dustysun told him he sounds like a rock trying to speak cat--Gingerpaw thought that was awesome. Learning words was still a slow process, so he tried to keep it simple. “How do you feel?” Like a warrior needed claws, a mediator’s finest tool was those simple words. He’d learned them early and practiced them often.

He turned to Marigoldpaw, pointing the question at his sister first. Along with the words, he signed the complexity he couldn’t fit into speech: tell her the difference and why it matters to you.

Gingerpaw saw her putting her anger away and nodded in approval. “I’m not blind. Using the words half-blind makes me feel like you’ve already decided I wasn’t worth the effort. I prefer the term visually impaired because it lets others know I might not see as well as they can, but that I am still fully capable of being a warrior.”

Burnetblossom’s tail flicked. “I never said you weren’t capable! I was trying to defend you!”

Marigoldpaw took a deep breath, and Gingerpaw respected his sister’s restraint. He knew she dealt with a lot, more than he did sometimes. “My sight--or lack thereof--should never be an excuse. It wasn’t because of my eyesight that Valleyplume was named a warrior first. It was because she fought bravely. She deserved it, and I wasn’t--I’m still not--ready. I never use my visual impairment as an excuse, and so it made me feel very hurt that you did.”

Her speech was long but well-said, and Gingerpaw was glad he had Marigoldpaw’s sign to lean on so he didn’t miss the nuance. It was also clear to him that her anger didn’t stem from Burnetblossom using the wrong term, but because Burnetblossom--in Marigoldpaw’s eyes--thought her disability was slowing down her training.

“How do you catch a bird if you can’t see it?”

Gingerpaw tried to step between them but it was too late. “I don’t know,” Marigoldpaw said, and Gingerpaw couldn’t hear her but knew her voice was sharp as sheared stone. “Maybe if you weren’t half-deaf you would have heard that snake before you nearly stepped on it! I heard it! I pushed you out of the way! And I didn’t need working eyes for that.”

He did interfere before the two could trade blows, stepping between them and breaking the two mollies glares with his own flank. “Stop,” he said again. But there was no hope in trying to get them to find a middle ground, not now. “Stop. Go away. Try later.”

Burnetblossom settled her bristling hackles, rolled her eyes, and stalked into the warrior’s den. She must have spoken something with her back turned, as Marigoldpaw bristled again. Gingerpaw stopped her from following with a paw and a stern glare. I’m disappointed in you.

“She doesn’t understand!”

You think I don’t know that? Me? Gingerpaw nearly rolled his own eyes, but instead butted his head against his sister’s shoulder. That was the good thing about their sign, he could say most things with his nose still buried in her fur, and Marigoldpaw was good enough to imply what he couldn’t from the gaps. They’ll understand eventually. It won’t be soon, and it won’t be easy, but it will happen. They’ll wake up and realize: oh, Gingerpaw can’t hear, but he’s the only one that can see Clearfluff’s irritated before she snaps. Or: oh, Marigoldpaw can’t see very well, but she can smell a mouse from two tree-lengths away and stalk it with less sound than a turtle’s fart.

He could feel Marigoldpaw laugh at that last one, her shoulder moving under his nose. Gingerpaw grinned.

It shouldn’t take so long for them to accept us, Marigoldpaw signed, silently.

No, it shouldn’t. But one day they will, and that’s what matters.

Hello that was me! Actually I’ve only voted for Basil, Flame, Dawn/Dusk, and quick Clans so far though, not sure who has the 1 vote on Immortal and Golden. Still going through IvyClan at the moment (at moon 509, just past the part where several moons had to be redone due to the game crash), so I’ll be on to those whenever I’m done with that.

I wish Flame and the original Dawn/Dusk went on longer, it’s a shame the files got lost! Happens to me a lot too though, but I’ve only played the web version so I know they won’t stay forever on that (though I’m not entirely sure what specifically makes them go away on that version, as sometimes they’ll be saved for weeks and then I just wake up one day and nope, despite being careful to not close the tab). I’ve been in a huge ClanGen mood recently, just did 300 moons on one before losing it, and I’m probably going to start another one soon. I write info down about mine too, but none of it is up anywhere (yet). I do have SageClan (the 300 moon one) in private drafts right now and am working on Clan info/bios for them though, so whenever I am adequately done that will be posted!

yo I can't wait to see SageClan!! I love Clangen content it's 10/10

and yeah, the browser version is... not great. It's also like? Two years behind in content? totally recommend getting the desktop version if you're able to. I lost Flame and Dawn/Dusk when I upgraded my pc ;-; I really really wanted the Caverns back, the next part was EPIC btw, gonna be a murder, but I didn't end up releasing that because it would have been a huge cliffhanger and uh. I didn't want to do that to people. I really need to work more on the Dusk/Dawn reboot ;-; I've only written one or two moons for it?

I will admit that Immortal was my favorite to write. Having only one main character made it both easier and harder--easier because I only had to focus on one cat per moon, harder because if there were major events with other cats, I had to figure out a way to have Brownie involved somehow--but it did absolutely RUIN me because it was in present tense most of the time, and you can tell how much that screwed my writing, WhisperClan is especially bad with accidental tense shifts and I blame Immortal for that

and yeah, the browser version is... not great. It's also like? Two years behind in content? totally recommend getting the desktop version if you're able to. I lost Flame and Dawn/Dusk when I upgraded my pc ;-; I really really wanted the Caverns back, the next part was EPIC btw, gonna be a murder, but I didn't end up releasing that because it would have been a huge cliffhanger and uh. I didn't want to do that to people. I really need to work more on the Dusk/Dawn reboot ;-; I've only written one or two moons for it?

Thanks! I just finished the sections for info about all of the leaders/deputies/medicine cats and the quick timeline of significant events last night. Current allegiances are done too, but the StarClan cats/past allegiances are very much not. I need to update the family tree too, as I believe I left it on moon 240.

Yeah it really isn’t, but I’m usually playing on my phone, so it’s the only option there. I do have a PC that I could get it on, but I barely use it because it’s very slow and kind of a pain (I generally use an iPad as a computer, but of course that won’t work for this either).

Oh that would’ve been so exciting!! Yeah not a great ending though so understandable. I’ll be keeping an eye out for any future updates to the Dawn and Dusk reboot! I really liked the explanation of the territory/lore so far too, as I read it after the original Dawn and Dusk and it helped me understand that world better, though I had mostly figured it out!

I was dragging my feet doing the family tree updates, because I try to get them every ~100 moons so they don't pile up and become too overwhelming. And of course can't leave em past 200 or cats start fading. But I finally cleaned up the tree, so it's time to play!
It's been a while, so I'm gonna give myself a little overview of the Clan as it sits

Beaverstar is our leader! She took over from Mottlestar on last moon, who died of old age. Her mate, Silkblur also died last moon so she's dealing with a lot right now.
I really love the front and back white patches, and Mooncrash is a GREAT name. She has a weak leg and her mom is in the dark forest for Murder.
Mossnibble and Fennelsmoke are both medicine cats, and we actually have a mediator, Lilyslash! Who apparently has lasting grief, the poor dude. Also Mossnibble is deaf, and Craneshade the young warrior has a twisted leg. We have a lot of conditions in IvyClan right now.
Our oldest warrior, Cloverbrook, announced she's expecting kits.
As for injuries, Kinkdaze has a broken bone as does Mothfall, and Yewnest has a head injury.

Onto the actual moon...
Serpentfreckle went missing for a few days. His son, Cicadakit is over his shock (from all those cats dying the same moon he was brought to the Clan, probably).
Also Mossnibble (senior healer) and Mooncrash (deputy) are mates. this is very sweet.

Lilyslash resolves some border disputes with GardeniaClan and then thinks he's part of a prophecy?
Kinkdaze's broken bone infects, but at least she's over her grief. Mothfall's bone ALSO infects. Get on this healers!!
Cloverbrook moves to the elder's den. And also to the nursery.

Lilyslash gives himself cardinal feathers.
Kinkdaze gets over her infection
Sleekeagle fights a rogue and was only bruised! She does get a stomacheache tho.
Both Craneshade and Mooncrash struggle with their respective chronic pain this moon.
Tanglekit sneaks out and is caught.
Cloverbrook has two little mollies: Ramkit, a tortie, and Daisykit, a fawn ticked tabby
We also get the loner, Crested! We encountered him three moons ago now (two moons before I stopped playing earlier) and this moon we found him on the border, willing to join. He decides to rename himself Wingfall, which is seriously badass.

Beaverstar was seen touching noses with a loner. He also saves Yewnest from a dog and broke a bone (despite her being confined to the healer's den with a head injury? Hopefully it didn't get into camp!)
Lilyslash is still doing things, travelling to MouseClan this moon.
Kinkdaze's broken bone is healed. Oh and Yewnest is also healed. Mothfall's bone isn't healed, but the infection is gone.
Micakit picks flowers to decorate the healer's den <3

kit tax.
Greensmoke, our youngest warrior, takes a lucky hit from a small dog and gets some scrapes.
We encounter twolegs, but luckily no cats are taken.

Aw Craneshade retires at only 20 moons, her twisted leg causing her too much pain to do full warrior duties. I headcanon she still hunts a lot, she just doesn't go on border patrols anymore.
Mothfall's broken bone healed, but it didn't heal well and the leg will always be weak.
Aw poor Ramkit also was born with a weak leg :(
Mossfreckle brings home three kits: Hopkit, Skykit and Fogkit. He really likes three letter prefixes.
We had three rogue ambushes in a row... I was able to antagonize every time so they weren't a threat, but this IS concerning.

AWWWW Cloverbrook and Prancewhisker become mates! She also is fully recovered from kitting.
Clawhare comes out as trans! They use they/she pronouns now.
Yewnest finds a lilac bow and decides to wear it!

Also she loves her mate, but doesn't respect or trust her at all lmaooo

also Lilyslash has romantic pips with most of the older mollies in the Clan. Smh dude. He also really, really trusts Fennelsmoke? He, too, hates Sleekeagle. And also dislikes Yewnest.

No other hate bars though, that's good.

Yall remember Swallownudge? the elder who murdered a cat to impress the other murder-elder? He finally died. AT 275 MOONS OLD

I don't think any living cat remembers him, or even stories of him. He's that old (and we've had enough mass extinctions since he's been in the Clan...) Imagine, murdering a cat at the nice ripe age of 12 years old (already pretty old for a wild cat) and then living NEARLY DOUBLE THAT (died a moon off of 23 years). Kinda legendary behavior over here. Man really thought he could avoid the Dark Forest by just living forever.
We get another outsider that wanted to join in a moon event! I'm going to start being more neutral/hostile to outsiders now. Anyways, he is quite a handsome man, and named himself Pebbleiris once he learned the Clans have traditional names.

He immediately gets mediated with Craneshade and gets a romantic bar. tbh, that's kinda cute.

BRO Mossfreckle brings home TWO MORE KITS. His first litter is only 4 moons! Welcome to Siltkit and Volcanokit.
Rampaw is apprenticed to Prancewhisker and Daisypaw to Mothfall.
Beaverstar's broken bone finally healed this moon.
I shouldn't mention this but... we haven't really had many cats down in the last year...
LMAO Kinkdaze shows off some amazing tracking skills... but fails to communicate how she managed the feat.
Serpentfreckle catches rabbits on both MouseClan (this moon) and BounceClan (last moon) territory and isn't caught either time. nice.

Aw Birchpaw trained extra hard to impress Sleekeagle and is now sore. She's already ahead of the curve (along with Cliffpaw) and both are set to graduate a moon early at this pace. Awww Mooncrash breaks down during training and the apprentices listen and reassure her. What good children.

Mossnibble thinks she's meant for something greater. She also gets a splinter.

The first thing I want to point out is that IvyClan has more Dark Forest cats currently than ever before! Before this "generation" we have never had more than TWO non-faded DF cats at a time. Old IvyClan was... kind of peaceful. But then we had the pair of murder elders and Sakurastripe, who were all active murderers at the same time, and the Raccoonfog the murder apprentice. Also I am CERTAIN Fishleaf did murder but the murder isn't shown on her page?

Onto the moon!
Fennelsmoke recovers from greencough. Good, we need both healers with this clan size. She does get a headache tho

MORE KITS. Serpentfreckle brings back ANOTHER litter. I would turn off unknown second parent but. no. IvyClan is a quick Clan, I can deal with more than two pages with this one. His four are named Pumakit, Primrosekit, Weedkit and Sunkit. Only Sunkit is male.

We aren't proud of it, but BounceClan is the enemy... we find two of their kits and ensure BounceClan won't find them again.

Henry is pressured into changing her name, though, and is renamed Leafstripe (I... kinda forgot this Clan does NOT let loners join without changing their name)(Gigabyte can stay because it's hilarious)

We get ANOTHER cat tho, a kittypet with greencough named Fallenfern which is a great name. We need senior warriors to give wisdom to all the Youth

Beaverstar is 145 moons and Mooncrash is 85... I would love to have a Moonstar but I might let her retire instead of taking leadership. She's been REALLY struggling with her weak leg recently...and I'd love for her and Mossnibble to retire together when Fallingpaw is named a full healer.

it WILL be very annoying to map out Yewnest's litter once they're adults tho. She's nestled deep in the tree rn and Greensmoke is all the way on the other side. She's only a little younger than he is (38 moons) and curlewpaw is her first apprentice. OH she was the kittypet we rescued from drowning. She is an expert warrior already, though, and is compassionate and good with kits. I think she's a great balance for Cicadastar's stricter, more logical nature.

He was also seen with a rogue, and Cliffspot was seen with a kittypet.
NO Tricklegaze dies from the claw wound. It spent FOREVER infected and finally cleared up, I thought he was in the clear but no.
Rookwhisper heals from his bite.
We also heal from a TON of stomachaches, small cuts, sprains ect. We also GOT a lot of small injuries, including Mitepaw who got a torn ear from catching a trespassing BounceClan cat (girl you're a HEALER don't FIGHT them) and Scorchpaw who got a thorn in her paw from fixing the camp walls.

Before we start, let me pick some favorites <3

As soon as I saw she had StarClan bond, I was watching Cliffspot. I was rooting for her to be a healer's apprentice at first, and then both the cats I tried to ship her with died :( I think she's on the end of her arc but I still love her a lot. I was so stunned when she had a six kitten litter!!

Knock of Jayfeather is also great. I'm so glad Whisperhollow found his way back home.

I don't know much about Slipshade, but the woodpecker whitespot on masked tabby is MWAH so pretty.

I've been watching Frondhiss like a hawk since she was born. The solid tortie with those colors is just. So unique? I haven't seen another cat with that pair of colors before.

Lilyslash is like. Unsung hero tbh. This poor guy has been through so much and I love him to bits. I wish one of his kits would have survived :(

Lavendersun takes over as deputy. I'm really surprised Cicadastar chose the nervous former kittypet instead of Rowanclaw or Micamimic if he wanted a more experienced, older cat to help stabilize the Clan.
Okay, that was A Lot. But most our kits have survived. All the elders are grief stricken tho, as is Cicadastar (who has been down literally ALL HIS LEADERSHIP practically. Like 20+ moons.) We only have one healer left, Quailsummit, and his apprentice Goldpaw, who just got restless sleeper skill? She was forced into being a healer's apprentice but now she can dream walk so maybe Quailsummit was onto something (or got a sign from StarClan)

we're down to 9 cats down from illness. All whitecough. We should be through the Bad Stuff.

We'll see if it comes out on its own, I'll mark the cat as a murderer in my notes so I don't forget who it was but. okay then.
Oh I forgot, I marked all our DF cats to never fade. Since they are fairly uncommon, it's not like it'll overburden the file size to keep them all loaded, and I'd rather have some than have it empty most of the time.

Eye color challenge
[COMPLETE! WON! ended with 16 cats]

Rules: Only cats with the same eye color (cobalt) can stay in CobaltClan. All other cats must be killed or exiled.
Goal: Survive 100 Moons

Challenge rules:
- no mediators (too broken for forcing relationships)
- mass extinction ON (hehehe)
- all kit settings ON except ignores bio (I'm unlucky enough as it is getting cats to have kits usually without making it needlessly more unlikely)

LORE:

Snakespark didn't know anything about Clans, or prophecies. He'd left his littermates a season cycle ago and has been wandering since. And then he found the ocean, and he Saw: a Clan, thriving in the caves, all with glittering cobalt eyes like his own. It was the only future that mattered and he'd been chosen to see it through.

Only a few days later, a young molly found him setting up CobaltClan's future camp. Her eyes flashed in the entrance to the cave, dark as the depths of the ocean beyond. She'd followed pawprints here--not Snakespark's, StarClan's, the starry cat that was teaching her herbs in her dreams leading her to this place, telling her that she was needed.

They were only two cats, but they were ready to grow CobaltClan into the vision Snakespark Saw. It would be a long and hard journey, full of dangers yes, but also locating cats worthy of their Clan. Can the two build CobaltClan into something great? Or will they fail before ever realizing their prophesized destiny?

CobaltClan! This is going to be a HARD challenge, especially with only two cats. Eye color inheritance in Clangen is challenging, with only a 9% chance of perfect inheritance even with two parents with the trait.

And even then, I can't really breed my way to victory: if all my cats are related, we aren't going to be surviving very long to continue those lines. Which means I'm going to have to regularly recruit fresh blood into the Clan, or be very careful about keeping some dynastic lines. This is going to be interesting! At least I managed to start with a healer's apprentice in Shimmerpaw. lore keeper + healer trait is HUGE moving forward.

I think starting out, I'm going to have to hope on some healer finding kit patrols and my single warrior meeting outsiders to recruit. The more cats we find, the more likely we are to encounter some cobalts. So let's get to it!

Moon 0 patrols:
Snakespark immediately finds a kittypet willing to join! Buttttt they're a yellow-green. Are we catch and release or kill? I guess it doesn't really matter... tho releasing cats means they might keep trying to come back which could be annoying. idk, I'll exile and see what happens.

Shimmerpaw fails to gather oak leaves.

Moon 1:
Shimmerpaw is shaken that the original Clan (which you have to have at least like, seven cats) died. Sorry girl it happens.
Snakespark brings back three kits! AND TWO ARE COBALTS good job buddy. I feel awful exiling a kit but uh. Sorry? Maybe Toxel will start a kit adoption clinic on our borders for non-cobalts LMAO By silver-eyed Roarkit. Welcome to Wisteriakit and Icekit!

1 Patrol:
Another kittypet wants to join! I think we put out that we're recruiting. A few fliers here and there never hurt, ya know?

Lucky doesn't join. I was considering at first to allow all "blues" (light blue, pale blue, blue, cobalt, cyan) but thought that might be too easy. I'm gonna try this harder difficulty first and see how it goes.
(also, having seen how quickly Snakespark had outsider kits... that would be the easiest way to get new cobalts without tangling bloodlines... like now if Shimmerpaw ends up having outsider kits, both of Snakespark's can have viable pairs instead of just the single pair from Shimmer/Snake you feel?

Moon 2:
Shimmerpaw realizes the ghosts in the cave are from a long time ago, another failed Clan. Hopefully CobaltClan doesn't fall like they did...

I LOVE that we have the speckled trait. Not that we do, we just have Snakespark carrying "mostly white" but still!!

A loner wants to join Snakespark! Pale yellow eyes tho. But another young cat! Would have been nice any other time.

Shimmerpaw fails to push past the blackberry thorns to harvest any of the fruits or leaves. I know you're working on your own here, but we DO need herbs...

Moon 4:
Shimmerstripe gives herself a full name. StarClan whispers to her in her dreams, honoring her faith in CobaltClan's noble task.

I'm glad she's faithful! I think that's a great trait to describe her motivations for being here.
Also dude Shimmerstripe doesn't like Snakespark or the kits, and they don't like her. Everyone's mean.

Patrol 4:
I don't have to force proceed on things if I don't want to! Storm clouds? No! We go home. I need my cats to live.
Shimmerstripe gathers betony. She's actually been popping off in solo collecting, so we have a lot of good herbs. so long as we get some lungwort and catmint before winter, we should be sitting pretty for the cold seasons.

Moon 5:
Oh shoot we don't have enough prey. I thought I was watching that close enough.
Icekit gets heat exhaustion (not deadly so long as it doesn't become heat stroke...)

Patrol 5:
I love that we only need 5 prey a moon, so even a failed catch worth 1 is good enough to bump us back to healthy.
The kits will be able to help soon, letting Snakespark go out and recruit like he was meant to.

Moon 6:
Icekit and Wisteriakit will be like. Best friends after this. they keep getting high positive interactions.
Shimmerstripe is interpreting an omen? hopefully a good one.

Snakespark successfully hunts a mouse.
Shimmerstripe doesn't collect herbs.

Its like he's the only warrior in the Clan //shock

Snakespark and Icepaw work together to catch a rat
Wisteriapaw tries to hunt by himself and is trapped in the sand! He's unharmed, but spends the whole day carefully getting himself free.

Wisteriapaw gets whitecough :(
Shimmerstripe gives her the most bitter herbs on purpose. GIRL. And then Wisteriapaw is telling jokes about Shimmerstripe where she can hear.

Patrol 8:
Icepaw fishes. She moves too quick and misses the fish.
Snakespark finds a CedarClan apprentice. We meet another border Clan!
Shimmerstripe finds marigold.

Moon 9:
Wisteriapaw recovers from whitecough. Good!!
Shimmerstripe wants an apprentice. Girl you don't need help to manage three Clanmates.
Snakespark has a nightmare involving the river, and Wisteriapaw fell into the creek and is still wet. I wonder if Snake Saw his son fall in.

9 Patrol:
Wisteriapaw and Icepaw hunt together. They both realize they have no idea what they're doing.
Snakespark tries to recruit a rogue, but ends up having to drive them away instead. Rough.
Shimmerstripe fails to collect moss.

Moon 10:
Snakespark was seen touching noses to a loner. Hey, more kits are more kits.
Shimmerstripe is prancing around in front of Snakespark (that's a romance thing!)

Wisteriapaw was seen with a rogue.
Shimmerstripe is having a hard day. She does bond with Snakespark tho.

She almost hates Wisteriapaw. Wisteriapaw admires Shimmerstripe's skills.

they had a rougher moon with Nala: Snakespark regrets asking her a question, she shared an embarassing story about Wisteriabird, and calls Snakespark the wrong name. We ask her to leave, now that Snakespark is alright, and she moves on.

Snakespark chats with Wisteriabird while they're both guarding camp. Bro it's just the two of you... what are you guarding? There's hardly a fresh-kill pile to speak of...

Wisteria's hunting patrol was the odd sound and I was TERRIFIED but we NEED prey and luckily it was a mouse...

But it's going to be a hard battle. I'm going to condense everything into one heading now that we only have one cat...
We have 14 prey and Wisteriabird only needs 3, so he has plenty of chances to go out and recruit before he needs to hunt more.

Ceresdust survives! Okay that was.. honestly I wasn't expecting the game to give me her back.
She teaches the kits what herbs to stay away from. good girl.

Moon 60:
Apprentices! Both our warriors have two each. They... aren't probably going to be doing much training. Paws to the ground, time to get to work.
Snakespark is seen sharing prey with a kittypet.
Dancingpaw gets a runny nose and Rimepaw a stomachache.
Bruh Dancing, Sunny and Wisteria go hunting and Dancingpaw convinces them to let their prey go. Bro what.

Wisteria takes Poppypaw and Dancingpaw to hunt. They find a grey fox digging for bugs and use the distraction to bring down a plump bird. Nice.
Snakespark goes to recruit. He ends up marking CedarClan border
Sunnypaw takes Rimepaw to train. His younger brother is a pain and thinks he should be leading the training. Rimepaw runs off to hunt alone and thankfully isn't hurt, but they don't learn much.
Ceresdust gets wild garlic.

Moon 62:
Sunnyspark earns his warrior name. Dude we had too much s-s alliteration: Snakespark, Shimmerstripe, now Sunnyspark.
Ceresdust snaps at Rimepaw for disturbing her while she was working.
Rimepaw distracts his littermates. Again.

Apprentices get some skills! Dancingpaw earns storyteller (and also gets lost on his patrol?), Rimepaw gets swimming.
Also Sunnyspark is now clairvoyant. I swear he didn't have the starter skill for that as a kit? Oh, oddly insightful is for clairvoyance, not for insight. I'm glad Snakespark is passing his trait down? Poppypaw and Rimepaw also will be clairvoyant too.

Ceresdust gets tansy.
Wisteria takes Dancingpaw to recruit. They find an injured loner! But the cat dies before they can get them to camp. RIP.
Sunnyspark takes Poppypaw and Rimepaw training, and Rimepaw just instantly eats red berries. Redcurrant. Not deadly. But Dude has a death wish!!! this guy is a hazard!!

I usually don't think about age gap in cat game much, but 43 moon old wise/good teacher vs "I got my warrior name last moon" is a bit of a problem. Anyways, he goes. Funny there was another Shimmer- in the Clan (for a hot second)

Wisteriabird becomes deputy. I didn't let him choose. Wisteriabird DESERVES it for how much work he's put into this Clan.
Oh also: Rimespeckle is still childish; Poppystripe is nervous; Dancingfern is responsible and also an incredible runner now.
Snakestar is incredibly clairvoyant, both Poppy and Rime are fairly clairvoyant, and Sunnyspark is just somewhat clairvoyant.

Poppystripe recovers from frostbite and Rimespeckle from his claw scratch (with a scar) They also both really want to be deputy.
Ceresdusk wears oak leaves now.

Ceres Sunny gather moss!
Rime and Poppy go hunting together and catch a bird.
Wisteriabird goes with Snakestar and they catch a rabbit on the TempestClan border.

Moon 73:
Poppystripe is caught sharing prey with a kittypet.
Ceresdust trips but only her pride is bruised.
Sycamorekit decorates her pelt with petals! She also gets a runny nose.
Gwynn's kits arrive and they're Wisteriabirds! I was thinking they'd be Snake's or an outsider but that's alright. Kinda wish they were outsider blood so they could maybe pair with Sunny's litter.
But they are BOTH staying (one cobalt, one dark blue) so I am NOT complaining!!! Bearkit and Shinekit.
Ceresdust officially has a crush on Sunnyspark! It's a little one sided but we're getting somewhere.

Butterflymask announces she's also expecting kits! I think I'll retire her after she's through with that. She's old enough and healers can't retire on their own.
Snakestar thinks he's going crazy. I think his vision is starting to line up! CobaltClan thrives.
Poppystripe is feeling sassy and Whorlheart is laughing gleefully (he's also childish now, not oblivious)

Tho maybe it would have been better storywise if she just. took her kits and left. But that's not very polite either.

Apricotpaw is apprenticed to Whorlheart. She's sincere and has some clairvoyance.

Sycamorethrush goes on a risky hunt but it pays off.

Apricotpaw gets a mouse! She's getting the hang of hunting.
Poppystripe goes to the twoleg dens to hunt but ends up scraping herself on a jagged bit of metal.
Sycamorethrush feels off during her hunt and misses every pounce. It's alright, we got a stockpile.
All recruits go poorly. Shinefeather gets ambushed and has to run, most other patrols have to dodge threats.

Wisteriabird travels to the other Clans to bring them an important message. CobaltClan is nearly 100 moons old, we've almost fufilled the prophecy! I wanted to reach 20 cats but we aren't QUITE there.

Sycamorethrush slips but catches herself.
Snakestar is thinking of new ways to care for his Clan. He's 112 moons old, our Clan founder. He's done great work so far.

This would have been a great moon for Rimespeckle to come home, but alas. We've survived 100 moons~!

Look at all our cats! And we have a pretty good split of Snakestar kin and fresh recruits too! tho we only started getting true cobalts in the last few moons. Still! Challenge complete!
Tho a little rule bending did happen. But I think having two cats until moon 55 and then taking a few dark blues is fair. Made the challenge more interesting, which is the point!

Always unfortunate when a cat you’re rooting for dies! Yeah, it’s annoying, and I realize I could probably fix it (mostly) by not playing the web version but the times I want to play are almost always when I only have access to my phone. If I do ever get the PC version I’m definitely going to have to mess around with the files though, as I think I know enough Python to make a few changes.

I have made a new Clan recently, but going very slowly as I decided to record all interactions and write short summaries connecting some of the events rather than just writing the major events (births, deaths, ceremonies, etc.) like I usually do. Somewhat fun, somewhat tedious. Next time I may go for an intermediate and write down relationship events/the cats’ thoughts on their page each moon but only if they’re interesting, rather than every single one. Will probably post this one at some point, but I still haven’t even finished the formatting for the less detailed one that’s still in my drafts on here, because it’s too much of a pain on mobile

yeah the web version is... not great in many ways. if you have a PC that can run the full version I highly recommend it's very worth. not only for the stability, but because it has SO much more content and features.

I do think writing or otherwise crafting a story around the playthrough is the best way to experience the game, as evidenced by this thread LMAO but finding a balance of how much to do a moon is really up to you! I hope you find a good balance; I'm still trying to find a balance of speed and detail I can be happy with myself.

Yeah I definitely need to at least try it sometime, though my PC isn’t great. I usually use an iPad as a computer and seem to get inspiration to play Clangen when I’m not home, so it’s way easier for me to use the mobile version, even though I know it’s worse.

Thank you, hopefully I’ll be able to find something that works well so I don’t get burned out! I at least like writing things down so I could come back to it later and build on it more for stories or just having a Clan to play around with or something. I always used to do this with games when I was younger too, or even name/OC generators (I’d just generate hundreds and write them all down/save screenshots of their designs). I have hoarding tendencies for pixel cats evidently.
