- - Shatterfang
Shatterfang searched the trees for some kind of animal that could wander by, then looked down at the forest floor. A bird had landed near Thornshade! "Thornshade, look!" she whispered loudly, leaning forward. "There's a-" Suddenly she leaned too far, and the she-cat felt herself slip off the branch. She hit another branch as she free fell, then another, her claws scrambling to grab it. A moment later she hit the ground and let out a groan of pain. Ooo, everything hurts.., she thought, starting to shift her weight to sit up. Luckily it hadn't been too big of a fall, but she hadn't been prepared for skydiving like that.

(I'll get Shatterfang in a moment, littlesong.) - - TallpineCarefully, Tallpine pulled the nest outside, keeping one steady paw under it as he awkwardly padded backwards. He found a spot just outside the den where he set his side down and removed his paw. Then, feeling a little guilty about the whole bet, he decided to offer little bit of help. "Do... You need anything else?" he asked slowly. "I'm sure I could get some... Leaves or something?" He chuckled and looked around for some sort of... Warm thing? Stonestreak slowly walked outside the den, attempting to hold up her part of the nest. She set it down gently, and removed her paw from the underside. "I don't think so actually." She grinned. "I'll be comfortable enough, but I do appreciate it." Just two nights. It isn't that bad. It'll be worse to have to explain to our clanmates why I'm sleeping outside. She thought.

"Alright," he mewed, shaking the loose moss out of his fur. "I guess I'll see you later, then. Good game, Stonestreak." Tallpine nodded his brown and black head, then with a grin, he turned and padded away to the fresh-kill pile to have a short meal. This was a nice day, he thought, reflecting on their hunting trip, I'll have to talk to cats again soon. And maybe I can strike up another bet with her sometime.

Many heartbeats had passed since Tigerlight had left to get a mouse for Needlepelt. She shifted in her nest and debated whether it was worth the effort and pain to go to the fresh-kill pile herself. Tigerlight snuffled through the fresh-kill pile, trying to find the best mouse he could. He settled with a reasonably plump one and headed back to the nursery, the mouse hanging from his jaws. Needlepelt was about to heave herself out of her nest when she heard Tigerlight padding toward the nursery.

She called after him, grinning. The she-cat was happy enough, that had been fun. Well until she lost that is. Stonestreak gave a small laugh before looking around camp. Seeing as there wasn't anything better to do, getting some sleep didn't seem like a bad idea. Curled up in her nest, it didn't seem too bad, though it would most likely get colder as night came. No matter. She closed her eyes, and began to drift off into sleep.

FernPaw walked across camp to where TallPine was sitting near the fresh kill pile "Hey TallPine" she said with a smile "Want to go hunting?"

(Sorry, I'm gonna be a little slow today.)
- - Tallpine
"Oh. Hey Fernpaw," the tom mewed with a short nod if his head. He had just come off of an entire hunting bet, but... "Sure. We could head up to the Old Den. There's some pretty weird stuff up there." He really hated going to the same place over and over again. Besides, this would help her get some real-world experience with twoleg stuff if she ever needed it. He started to take a couple steps back toward the camp's exit with a smile.

FernPaw followed her mentor with a cheerful smile. When they where about half way there she scented and saw a squirrel she crouched in a hunters crouch and got as close as she could and pounced! She caught it just as it noticed her and she finished it off with merciful speed. She trotted over to TallPine with her catch "take it you must be starving you didn't eat anything before we left"

"Oh, thank you," he began, leaning down to take a bite. Wait, stop, a voice in his head called out, and he sharply pulled his head back. "Ah, I can't. We have to remember, Fernpaw. The elders and queens must eat first. It is the code we all live by." Tallpine gently pushed the squirrel back with a grin. He was pretty hungry, but setting a bad example for his apprentice was worse than a growling stomach. "Let's bury this really quick." He helped her dog a quick hole, then started back on their way.

"Ah, it's fine. Just don't do it again," he reminded her as they arrived at the Old Den. "We're here." Tallpine looked out at the huge nest before them. I can't imagine living here, he thought with a sneer. It looked like such a pampered life to him. Constant access to food, herbs everywhere, shelter and soft things inside constantly waiting for you. He shook off the thoughts and hopped onto the gate. "Alright. What can you smell?"

Stonepaw stared at the small butterfly in a hunting crouch he had rehearsed multiple times. He tensed his muscles, shifted his shoulders, then pounced with a yowl at the winged beast. But at the spund of his battle cry, the butterfly took of into the air, leaving the apprentice to fumble and hit the ground awkwardly. With a groan, he sat up and rubbed his head. "Ow..," he mewed, slightly bruised.

"You know your opponents are less likely to run off if you don't give yourself away," Morningleaf meowed, amused. She padded over to the young apprentice. "The element of surprise is everything; save the theatrics for after you've won."

At the sound of her voice, Stonepaw looked up with bright, wide eyes. "Oh. Really?" He tilted his head and looked at the butterfly, now fluttering away with a mocking skip in it's flight pattern. "I thinks it's less fun that way," he mewed as he considered it. It made sense though, he wasn't going to lie. But that butterfly seemed to have it out for him.

"Fun isn't really the goal of hunting or battle," Morningleaf told him. "Feeding your clan and making sure your clanmates are safe is. That's why we train, Stonepaw." Morningleaf laughed to herself; when had she become this cat?

Stonepaw nodded slowly. "Oh. Yeah," he mewed, briefly pondering whether or not it was actually fun to hunt and fight at all. "Well, I'm afraid I won't be able to catch that butterfly for us to eat, then." He smiled brightly and noticed that the little bug was completely out of sight now. I'll get him next time.

"Okay!" Stonepaw jumped to his paws. "Where should we go?" He asked, walking in an excited circle, edging toward the camp's exit. He hadn't gone hunting with anyone besides his mentor before. He thought it would be awesome to get some new advice from someone who wasn't Tigerlight, because even though he liked his mentor, the boredom of a day just like the last one was starting to get to him.

Morningleaf tilted her head to the side, thinking. "Let's try the old twoleg den. I haven't hunted there in a while, and there's always a mouse or two scurrying about," she meowed, flexing her claws in anticipation.
