Hickoryfoot looked up at her brother and said, "So, each time that one gets in a position to beat the other, they have to switch places. Interesting training tactic. Is it useful though?" Elmheart huffed, not looking away from the apprentices. "Of course it's useful. They have to learn that a enemy can turn there 'perfect' defeat into a success if they know how to escape. For example," he flicked his tail at Turtlepaw. "If she positions her hind-legs correctly, possibly while distracting Volepaw, she can push him off before he has time to think." Volepaw was paying attention only to Turtlepaw's movements and heard nothing of the mentors conversation. Turtlepaw started to hit Volepaw with her tail and front paws to try and annoy him and get him to loosen his grip a little. She moved her hindlegs to kick his out. Elmheart smirked, clearly happy that his apprentice was taking his advice. Hickoryfoot scowled at the fact that her brother had basically cheated. Her tail flicked and she looked back at the sparring apprentices, waiting to see who would get the upper paw.

Volepaw stumbled as Turtlepaw kicked out his back legs but when he fell he knocked the wind out of her. He stood and climbed back to pin her again.
Turtlepaw let out a whimper as the wind got knocked out of her and tried the move again but this time rolled as she did so.

Turtlepaw let out a whimper as the wind got knocked out of her and tried the move again but this time rolled as she did so. "You switch again now," said Elmheart, voice clear so that both apprentices would hear. Hickoryfoot nodded in agreement, since it would give Turtlepaw time to catch her breath (though she was glad that Volepaw hadn't been taken down as easily as that).

Turtlepaw and Volepaw nodded and switched.
Volepaw tired to use the same trick as Turtlepaw but she kept her legs closer to her so they couldn't as easily be knocked out from under her.
(I'm not sure how much I will be on today or this week in general becuase I'm moving up to college today and I'm not quite what we are doing for welcome week.)

I'm doing all that next week.) Elmheart seemed pleased that they were learning new skills as they tried to beat each other. Hickoryfoot threw in a hint for her own apprentice this time. "Look for weak points in the chest and neck area. Your opponent has to get close to bit or claw you, take that as an opening." "Just be careful not to actually bite her," Elmheart threw in, to Hickoryfoot's annoyance. He was being so bossy...

Volepaw nodded and got ready to use the advice agqinst Turtlepaw. Turtlepaw got ready to beat Volepaw. Hickoryfoot watched, silently hoping that her apprentice would win. By contrast, Elmheart was not hoping that Turtlepaw would win, he was hoping she would learn. (And thus, it is explained why Elm is a better mentor than Hickory. )

(Lol) Turtlepaw held tight to Volepaw trying to keep him pinned. Volepaw kicked at Turtlepaw's stomach trying to knock her over. Hickoryfoot stood, stretching out a leg. She wondered how long Elmheart was going to let this go on. As if sensing the question, Elmheart's eyes flickered in her direction and he called out to the two apprentices. "This is the last chance to see who comes out on top, you two!"

Turtlepaw stayed strong and kept Volepaw on the ground.
Volepaw struggled with all his might but dispite his struggle he could not get free.

The two apprentices stood and walked closer to their mentors before sitting down. Elmheart nodded at them, pleased. "You did a good job, Turtlepaw. You as well, Volepaw." Hickoryfoot nodded, echoing him. "Good job, Volepaw."

"Thank you" both apprentices chirped happily. "Is there any more training you'd like to do today?" asked Elmheart.
