Peppermint; Yelping in fear, she jerked back and her ears quivered. Fear pulsed in her chest, along with the feeling of dread crashing upon her like waves of the ocean onto shore. Her ears fell low and her fur puffed out. His change in appearance over time had already frightened her, but now she was just flat out terrified. Her instinct was to run, but she felt frozen in the moment. She had to force herself to pull her wings closer, in fear he would attack them to keep her down. She understood what he was saying perfectly well. Family first. But she didn't understand why he acted as if loners were so terrible. That not living in a clan was a true crime. She didn't see why she couldn't have one piece of their prey to survive. Just one would suffice her until she could figure out another way to get food. It wasn't the middle of leaf-bare, after all. Or from what she had picked up, that he assumed she didn't understand family. Attempting to form any sort of response that wouldn't anger him further, she struggled to get past the lump in her throat. "I-I... I didn't realize I was putting families at risk..." Her voice had fallen quiet and hoarse, regret pulsing through it. Carefully picking up her dragging wings, she tried to fold them and averted eye contact. "I'll leave, if I'm t-that much of a threat... I'm so-sorry for bothering you..." She muttered, spreading her wings she beat them once, but they simply caught on the ground the first time. Feeling a damp moisture on them, her shoulders slumped and she bit onto the wing, pulling it off whatever it had gotten caught on. Spitting a feather out of her mouth, Peppermint beat her wings a few times successfully, taking off into the air. Quickly landing on a tree, she stabilized herself and took off, away from where he was as fast as she could manage.

Perchheart gave a slightly angry yowl as she clumsily flew off. There was no guarantee that she wouldn't return- and most likely she would- and he wasn't able to drag her back to camp to see what Briarstar would say.
His pelt morphed back into its normal black, and his eyes cleared into a blue. There was nothing really left to do but go home.

Briarstar spotted FernClans' medicine cat looking quite agitated, and padded over to her. "Is something wrong?" He asked.

Otterpaw had been reduced to a big ball of excitement. She chatted eagerly with her mother, telling her about the other apprentices she had met. Snakepaw from OwlClan, who was a bit of a show-off, but fun to talk to, and Sootpaw the pretty she-cat from OwlClan who she had barely spoken to herself, but she had seen her brother connecting with. However, she could see that he was quite down at the moment and wondered if something had happened. Normally she'd go over and ask him what was wrong immediately, but she had feeling he wouldn't want to catch their parents attention, so she decided to spare it for later.
She was correct in her assumption. Lionpaw had been unusually silent on his way home. He tried to have a normal conversation with Dropletleaf, but it fell flat pretty quickly. He was lost in thoughts of the strange conversation he had had with Sootpaw. He felt like he had ruined her day - possibly even her moon. At the same time, he was also really curious. An OwlClan cat with FernClan powers? Surely that must mean that Sootpaw's mother had been seeing a FernClan cat in secret, and he really wanted to find out who it was. Besides, he wouldn't mind seeing the half-clan apprentice again, either.. He thought of the last thing he had said to her. "Meet you at the border sometime." Had she understood his message? Would they be able to see each other again before the next Gathering?

Dropletleaf focused on her apprentice. "How are you--you--doing?" Her anxious question was meant to sound upbeat. She was trying to keep the fact that she'd eavesdropped hidden, hoping the apprentice hadn't heard her worried tone.

"Not quite and I need to talk to you alone." Silverwind replied, quietly so other cats wouldn't over hear.

Lionpaw whipped his head up. "I'm okay. Just tired from the Gathering, that's all", he said, sensing the worry in her tone. He really didn't want her to mention his meeting with the OwlClan apprentice. He offered a tired smile, and quickly added "I think I'm going to sleep early today, if you don't mind. Thanks for the stories, and for taking me."

Sootpaw carefully picked her way near the entrance to FernClans' camp. The OwlClan cat slid through the ferns, her pelt automatically morphing into a strange green-blue color. It would take her a long time to get used to that. Perchheart was guarding the entrance closely, his eyes scanning the open land back and forth. Oh, why weren't there any trees? She felt so exposed in the empty moorland, her wings not being able to lift off without an obvious shadow being cast from the bright moonlight. She'd rolled in some ferns earlier, hoping that would be enough to hide her scent. She'd been molting recently, though she prayed that it had stopped. A fallen feather would be a dead giveaway.
She spotted Lionpaw fast asleep in a bramble and fern den. Sootpaw crept in the shadows, her dark pelt easily hidden. The apprentice poked her head through the door. "Lionpaw!" She whispered, her voice quiet.

Lionpaw was torn out of his dream by a strange female voice. For a tiny moment he thouht it was his sister, come to tease him or convince him to go night hunting with her. Then he caught the scent. Though it was well hidden, there was a trace of something foreign there. In a second his claws were out and fur bristeling, even without him thinking it. All sleepiness washed away in an instance, he looked up with huge eyes. Sootpaw?! What was she doing here? He almost thought he had been lulled back into sleep and was simply continuing his dream from earlier, until he caught her eye. His own gaze widened, and he jumped gracefully to his paws and sneaked out of the den, careful not to touch any of his clanmates. He knew of a secret tunnel leading from the den and out of camp, and beckoned Sootpaw to follow him with a flick of his tail.

Briarstar nodded and flicked his tail towards his den. "Most of the cats are asleep already, but if it's as serious as you say it is..."
Sootpaw crept after her friend, urgency making her paws shake slightly.

Lionpaw slunk further into the den, and used his tail to locate a tiny hole in the wall of brambles protecting them. Otterpaw and he had found this secret exit while adventuring as kits, before they were allowed to leave camp. They had never told anyone about it, but assumed that most of the oldest warriors surely knew of it. Once out of the thicket, he crept into the forest, not daring to breathe until he was a hundered percent sure no one could here what they said.

(Just a reminder Dragon- there isn't a forest in FernClan territory )
Sootpaw relaxed now that she was out of immediate danger. If she'd been caught in their camp, she'd be confined to the nursery for moons. She sat down, her tail twitching. "I need to ask you something..." She mewed awkwardly.
Briarstar nodded, and wrapped his tail around his forepaws inside of his hollow. "What is it, Silverwind?" He asked.

Dropletleaf couldn't sleep. Crawling out of her nest, she paced the clearing. Deciding to go on a walk, she headed for the entrance to camp.

Drizzlepaw was sitting near the enterance of the Apprentices Den, not able to sleep. The excitement of the gathering hadn't seemed to wear her down, instead keep her awake and alert. Knowing she couldn't leave camp without a warrior, she decided to stay near the Apprentices Den until she felt sleepy. Then she saw Dropletleaf. "Hey Dropletleaf!" She half-called, half-whispered. "Where ya going? Can I come too? I can't sleep."

Lionpaw took a step back, and blinked hard a couple of times. He really didn't know what to think. While he would hate to do anything his parents and clan would disapprove of, he was also itching with curiosity. Maybe he would be doing the clan a favour by uncovering who there had betrayed the code? Besides, he felt it to be impossible to refuse to help Sootpaw, considering every thing she had risked to come to FernClan. After staring at her in disbelief for a couple of seconds, he nodded slowly. "Yeah. Of course", he said with a tiny smile, trying to sound comforting.

The winged gray apprentice gave a relieved sigh. "Thank you so much, Lionpaw." Sootpaw meowed, feeling as though a huge weigth was now lifted off her shoulders- for the most part. "How should we start?" She asked. Though she had planned most of this visit, she hadn't thought about how actually finding the tom would work.

Whoops sorry :T Briarstar took a deep breath and paused, letting the den fill with silence. "...You said... killed? By a clan cat?" His paws shifted. "Are you positive it wasn't a rouge? Perchheart reported sightings of a winged cat who ran from our territory."
