Snowberry let out a snort, followed by a sigh. "Okay Leafpaw...but you're really testing my patience here, and I'm a patient cat. I've demonstrated this to you multiple times. Just kill the fish. The nip to the back of its neck is all it takes, and its very simple. Please Leafpaw. You want to prove you have what it takes be to a river glider, don't you? I would hate to see you have to switch apprenticeship to become a forest walker," the white she-cat insisted as she flicked her tail tip irritably against the ground.

[[ Sorry for the suddenness of this, especially since I just joined not too long ago, but I've decided I'm leaving the forums. With a bunch of things coming up from driving to tests to college to just my future overall? I need to try to step away a little from the computer to focus on other things. In addition, I've been beginning to feel I'm slowly losing my interest in roleplaying. So, it's better that I leave now. It was fun roleplaying with you guys and I wish the best for you all~ <3 ]]

[[ I know it's been only a day, but I've realized I don't want to leave the forums. I'm horrible, but I actually do want to stay. xD Roleplaying is still manageable for me and I'm not ready to leave that yet lol Would it be alright if I jump back in? ]]

Minnowpaw darted to and fro, never going more than a few foxlengths ahead of the old she-cat she was supposed to be accompanying. Still, that didn't stop her from acting like an overexcited kit. She absorbed everything she saw, heard and scented so she would never forget the forest again. The rustling of leaves had her dashing off a bit further ahead that usual, her sloppy hunting more for play than to actually catch the startled mouse who zipped away long before she got close enough. She stood there panting for a moment before rushing back into range of Melodyheart. "I forgot how much fun just being here was!" She hindquarters trembled with the force her tail lashing back in forth, her eyes shining with awe of their home. "Oh, I hope Floodstar gives me a new mentor soon!"
Ashpaw snorted at his mentor's disgusted tone, fairly amused overall. At the mention of training, however, the young tom flexed his claws, digging them into the forest floor in subdued excitement. "When have I ever not been ready?" The dark gray cat sneered, glad that the stupid hunting they did earlier had been worth it. "What;d on the agenda for today? If you teach me something really good, maybe I could "show it off" to Leoparcreek if you know what I mean."

(Alright sure! Also I'm not sure. Rageshadow does sound familiar... Btw I may be poofy. I've got work to do for classes in about ten hours or so.)
The early morning rays filtering through the ceiling of the warrior's den stirred Russetfeather from his slumber. Wincing against the sunlight, the russet colored tom opened his eyes to gaze about momentarily before they wee squeezed shut, his maw opening wide in a yawn. Pausing only to stretch a bit, Russetfeath rose and pushed his way out into the camp clearing, heading straight for the freshkill pile without hesitation. The tom's amber eyes scanned over the available prey, noting that hunting had already been done that morning. Plucking out a raven from the top of the pile, he was pleasantly surprised to feel warmth still emanating from it's body. Freshly caught. Russetfeather purred to himself, moving a few paces from the pile to settle down for his personal feast.

(Hm perhaps we might have. I don't recall much of my activity on the old forums) Russetfeather's ears flicked Cinderfur's mew, somewhat startled by the arrival of the gray she-cat even though he didn't seem visibly disturbed at all. "Go ahead." He mumbled halfheartedly, more focused on his choice of prey than anything else at that point in time, though he did hope that Cinderfur wasn't looking to talk about too much if anything at all and would be equally enamored by her own meal. He didn't hesitate to sink his teeth into the warm flesh of bird, holding back a sneeze as the feather tickled his nose.

Leafpaw's eyes widen in horror at the idea. His tail even fluffed up a bit. "No! I swear I'll do better." The little tom almost yowled these words. After his outburst, he took a second to calm himself. Shouting was just going to irate his mentor more and he didn't want her to walk away. "I don't want to become a forest walker. I want to be a river glider like Nightsplash." He became a river glider because of his sister and he couldn't disappoint her. That would be worse than having to sit among the trees like a squirrel, which didn't sound appealing in the first place. "I'll do better." He repeated, now with his eyes glued to his paws and tail wrapped around his body so it was resting next to his paws.
Melodyheart let out a small rumble at the darting apprentice. It was nice to know even the river gliders appreciated the beauty of the forest too. The old forest walker glanced around the forest. For the most part, the details were fussy but the colors were still as clear as day. She could still see the greens of the forest, which only looked brighter with the light streaming through them. The same light that was dappling her pelt and warming it. She tensed as the apprentice scared a mouse, judging by the scent. Her paws itched for a mouse chase, but she knew her body wouldn't allow it. "I'm sure he will, young one. There are plenty of river gliders without apprentices. I'm sure Floodstar is just taking his time to pick the best one." She rasped in an attempt to reassure the apprentice. This elder business, the advice and stories, didn't come naturally and Melodyheart was still working on it.

Ebonysong paused for a moment and scented the air. "Yes, the border is right over here," she answered and stepped forward, marking the nearest scent marker. She walked along the border, spotting the huge Twoleg structures in the distance that were close to towering the trees that surrounded it. "They're not very close, but they look like it with how big they are..." she remarked as she inhaled the scent that the wind brought. "I think one of them let out a dog recently, but the scent is stale, so we should be okay." She turned to her white apprentice and looked down at her. "Can you pick up the scent, Winterpaw?" she asked with a flick of her tail. (Ebony was one patrol with Dawnwarbler, but I've just edited my last reply to include Winterpaw since it makes more sense to patrol with more cats anyways. They're currently patrolling the border with Twolegplace.)

Snowberry sighed. "Alright Leafpaw. Just prove it to me. Words alone won't prove it to me. After all, you're training, and we have an assessment to worry about in the future. I think that's enough hunting for today, though. Do you want to go back to camp. Or are you interested in learning some battle moves perhaps?" Snowberry suggested as she rose to her paws, resting her tail tip on Leafpaw's shoulder to show she wasn't holding any grudges or irritations.
Haretooth turned to face his apprentice and pawed at the pine needles that covered the ground. "Let's start with a review. I want you to attack and defend in a mock fight with me, claws sheathed of course. I want see see what you remember and what you still need practice on, etc. So, show me what you've got," he growled as he made sure his claws were sheathed. He looked down at him and kept himself alert for Ashpaw's first move.

Ebonysong's whiskers twitched as she heard about the rogue. She inhaled the air once more and picked up the scent for the first time, though as the mentor she tried to play it off as not having mentioned it. "Yes there is. Good job, Winterpaw. You have a strong nose that's for sure," she purred and praised her apprentice. "On a more serious note though, you're right about how recent the scent is. More fresh than the dog but still close enough to worry about. Give me your opinion, Winterpaw. Do you think it's far enough inside the border to worry about to follow?" the black she-cat asked tilting her head down at the younger cat.

"That's alright. You're still learning," Ebonysong reassured. "You're right, we'll mention the scent to one of them, or both, but there are no signs of anything minus just a passing rogue. If there were things such as the remains of prey or blood-scent, then we would follow it immediately. That would mean they either stole prey or maybe got injured or fought one of our own. For now, though, we'll continue our patrol. Come, can you mark this part? Were you watching when I did the first one?" she asked as she stepped forward and looked back at Winterpaw.

"The cat that passed through was definitely a rogue. It carried a scent that didn't belong to PineClan, but also didn't have a distinct smell. They must have travelled through different areas and thus carry different lingering smells through all the places they've been through. A kittypet, on the other hand, smells...unnatural. Like a cat, but their pelt carries a particularly clean scent. They also are surrounded nonstop by Twolegs and their things. The Twoleg homes near here are also made of trees, so kittypets will carry a scent of wood, yet unnatural as well," Ebonysong explained as she continued on along the border, watching the Twoleg dens she saw in the distance between the trees.

(That's alright. Maybe Winterpaw's mother found out about that term through some other source and decided to name her after her. There's plenty of ways to insert reason into it c; )
Ebonysong padded along, making sure to mark the scent markers as she passed them. She tried not to get too distracted, making sure to keep alert as she responded. "Hm...I think the most dangerous thing was back when Snowberry and I were 'paws. We were out on patrol with our mentors, patrolling along this border in fact, and a large dog had been let out from its Twoleg home. It ventured all the way out to our border and ran into us. Snowberry had to rush back to the camp and get help while we tried to fight it off in the meantime. In the end we managed to chase it away, and we never picked up its scent again near our borders, so that showed him. It definitely was a tough fight, though. Haretooth got some of the scars he has now from that battle," she answered.

(Hm, good point! Lol it makes me smile knowing I have a kittypet ) "Wow! I've heard stories of dogs. I hope I never have to fight one. They always sound so scary!" She said, sounding amazed that her mentor fought something as scary as a dog. She helped her mentor renew the scent markers, occasionally running up ahead to get to them always scenting the air to make sure there were no intruders.
