A growl suppressed deep within his throat as angry yowls erupted from the WindClan cats. Him? Following the ancient cat's footsteps? Please. This forest would be at my control if that were true. "If I'm lying, and my words aren't true. How come no clouds cover the moonlight? Clearly StarClan agrees with me. WindClanners are not to be trusted." Walking the edges of the rock, Nightstar glared at the cats beneath him. Green eyes unwavering. "There is nothing more for me to point out here. This gathering is over." Murmurs of confusion broke out from the cats as soon as he called the meeting over. Waiting patiently for Volestar and Clearstar to leave their positions on the great rock before padding towards Birchstar. Intercepting her path from jumping down. "You flatter me with your calmness and talk of peace. But I'm done with your little 'games'. Its going to take a lot more to put my Clan into your trance." The dark-furred tomcat straightened, looking the younger she-cat straight in the eye. "And I'd advise you stopped pushing me, I'm not one to be pushed. If I wanted a war, there would be a war. If I wanted to be Tigerstar," He paused, giving a small chuckle, "Then the forest would be just fine without a WindClan."
Without waiting for her response, the tom easily was back onto solid ground. Gathering his Clan before slipping away through the undergrowth without looking back. This gathering had been pretty... successful. Some cats had believed his story, some thought it was treacherous. His clanmates and a few cats of ThunderClan and RiverClan to be exact. Not as many as he'd hope for, but it was better to start off small before really making his big move on WindClan.
Redstripe stood next to the great rock. Claws kneading the grass impatiently. There was no way he would be able to talk to Birchstar now, not after what Nightstar had just addressed to the whole forest. And what did he say to her anyways? Nightstar and Birchstar had lingered up there a little too long. Not making this worse I hope. Hopefully she wasn't too upset to talk to him. But what if she was? What if there was no time? Perhaps we could meet up sometime and chat. It was risky, but still worth learning the progression WindClan was making with their new leader.

Birchstar had to keep herself from growling at Nightstar. If she showed her annoyance then she would only look like the antagonist here. Keep calm, Birchstar. Keep calm. The light tabby took in a deep breath as she tried to come up with a way to respond to the black-furred tom. "You may think as you please." What else could she say? Anything else she had on her mind would rile up Nightstar, she was sure of that. Birchstar wasn't here for a fight, and when Nightstar ended the gathering, she simply went along with it.
This gathering was over. She was going to leave it at that, stay silent, and deal with Nightstar on her own time. Dealing with him here would only draw unnecessary attention, something Birchstar didn't want. She was just ready to go home now. After what had happened, she just wanted to curl up in her den and cool down. She wasn't even thinking about Redstripe right now, all she wanted to do was go home, but that wasn't happening. Before she could jump off the great rock, Nightstar intercepted her and began to speak. She grunted. "I'm not playing games, Nightstar. When I say I want peace, then I mean it." She left it at that, not like she could say anymore for the black furred male had jumped down and began walking off.
Not another word came from the WindClan leader's mouth. She shook herself off before jumping down to join her Clanmates. For a second her mind drifted to Redstripe. Could she find some other time to speak with him? There was some information she needed to give to him still, but tonight was not the time. Not anymore. With a sigh, the tabby flicked her tail to her Clanmates to signal that it was time to leave. Without saying anything else she started to head back to the moors, back to the place she called home.

Redstripe watched as Birchstar lead her cats away. Had she forgot about him? No, she probably had bigger, more important things on her mind. She was WindClan's leader after all. It would be a long time till the next gathering. Without thinking he quickly, but silently, rushed after the WindClan cats until he was way ahead of them up the slope. Taking cover in the undergrowth the tabby crouched low. "Psst, Birchstar." He called before she even passed him up. This was a mouse-brained idea. What if he was caught by one of her clanmates. Or if his own clanmates realized his absence. "Birchstar." He hissed again, when she was closer this time. What would he even say? Perhaps we could meet here.. Or something.
(Sorry this is short and kind of rushed.)

[ it's fine c: ]
All of her plans had went down the drain the moment Nightstar thought he could antagonize WindClan. Now Birchstar wouldn't be able to speak with Redstripe at all, and she had a lot to tell him. If she was just a regular warrior and he wasn't the deputy of his Clan then perhaps they could have snuck off without getting caught, but that wasn't the case with them. It wouldn't be possible. All of these thoughts plus annoyance over Nightstar's accusations ran through the tabby's mind as she brought her cats back home. She was so deep in thought that she almost didn't realize that her name was being spoken.
Birchstar paused. She angled her ears at the sound, almost instantly recognizing Redstripe's mew. What was he doing? Surely he wouldn't try anything hare-brained, not when Nightstar could so easily catch him... But if he was taking a risk, then so would she. Just thinking about him made her feel a tad bit better.
The leader turned to her deputy, amber eyes guarded. "Heatherclaw, lead the others back to camp. I'll catch up."
Heatherclaw tipped her head in question, amber eyes narrowed at her leader. "Shouldn't we stick together? After Nightstar's little speech, no telling what he's riled ShadowClan up to do." The gray tabby was obviously not trusting of what the other Clan would do after their leader's actions.
Birchstar shook her head. "I'll be fine. I just need a moment to think." That seemed to get Heatherclaw to understand, at least a little bit.
The tabby shrugged and then nodded. "Alright. Be careful, though," she mewed before signaling with her tail for the others to follow her. Birchstar waited until her cats were out of sight before bounding over to where she had heard Redstripe.
"Redstripe?" The leader called. She caught sight of him in the moonlight, her paws taking her over to where he was in just a few seconds.

Redstripe let out a breath as everyone vanished, heading to their own territory. Slowly, the russet colored tabby rose to his paws and shook bits of leaves and dirt from his thick pelt. The deputy wasn't one bit sure where to start with her. After what happened with Nightstar and his accusations. "Look I-I'm so sorry, I had no idea he was going to point your Clan out like that. And it gives you every right to be mad at me, if you are. Which I just... I assumed because you... I'm sorry." Redstripe looked away, ducking his head and flattening his ears in embarrassment for stumbling over his words. How could he have fumbled over his words? I've practiced what I wanted to say over a million times. Why did talking to Birchstar have to be so hard. She was the leader of a rival Clan for StarClan's sake! Their Clans hated each other with a passion. Why couldn't he just see that. Mixed emotions began to cloud his mind; anger, confusion, and something he couldn't exactly put his paw on. He sensed it every time he went around Birchstar. A feeling of joy and ease. It was like.... care or some type of affection. Not like he felt with Autumnbreeze, but maybe Stonepaw, or something.
But that wasn't important now. It was getting late. And the others would notice his absence sooner or later. "Birchstar, I really want to talk about our previous discussion. But now isn't the time. Maybe we could.... maybe we could meet up here again tomorrow. As business. Nothing more." His clanmates couldn't be mad at him or her if they knew their meeting up was only for professional purposes. It wasn't like they were seeing each other or anything. Besides, he was with Autumnbreeze. He couldn't just turn her back on her. Right?

Birchstar scanned her amber gaze across Redstripe. It was just him and her out here. She should be angry at him, should be snapping at him for being an enemy cat on her territory, but she felt oddly at ease around him. The anger and frustration she felt towards Nightstar vanished like dew in the sunlight. "Redstripe, Redstripe," she breathed, shaking her head. So badly did she want to lean forward and press her nose against his cheek to show him that it was okay, that she wasn't mad at him. Somehow she was able to keep herself from not nuzzling him. "There's nothing for you to be sorry about. You had no idea that Nightstar was going to act the way he did," she murmured. At least she assumed that Redstripe had no idea.
The tabby still needed to talk to him; she still needed to spend time with him, but she knew deep down that now wasn't the time. Heatherclaw would be waiting for her back at camp, as would most of her Clanmates. She couldn't stand here for too long. She would have to talk with Redstripe some other time. So when he suggested a meeting, Birchstar hastily took his offer. "Tomorrow," she agreed with a nod. "Business talk, of course." There would be nothing more going on than professional discussion. Nothing less, nothing more. Just simple Clan politics being discussed.

Redstripe shuffled his paws on the ground; half nervous and half excited for his meeting with Birchstar tomorrow. No, no, no. What was so exciting about having a professional conversation anyways? It was just Birchstar. Who apparently was very... interesting to be around. Whenever she was near he felt at ease or joyful. But that didn't mean anything, she just was a calm and respectful cat in general. Despite her status of being in WindClan, or better yet their leader. Which just made it all worse for him after what Nightstar had just previously said to her.
"Well, er, I-I suppose we should leave now. Our Clans are still waiting for us to return. And there's still things to do, patrols to assign and..." It took a while for Redstripe to realize that he was rambling, again. And when he did see what he was doing his ears flattened and her looked away from the WindClan leader. "Goodbye Birchstar, I'll see you again tomorrow at our meeting." Without another word Redstripe had set off in the direction towards his own territory. Forcing himself not to look back.
How would there meeting go tomorrow? Would she show up? Would he? This would have to be our last meeting. I can't keep disappearing from my clan duties everyday just to speak with Birchstar. And for what? Just to speak about the thick hostility between their two clans. The whole situation gave him mixed emotions. He wanted to agree with his clanmates and hate WindClan but he couldn't. WindClan had never done anything wrong since the death that started it all many moons ago. And Nightstar seemed to be taking advantage of Birchstar's leadership. All because she disagrees with the constant fighting. What would become of the Clans of shadow and wind if this continued? His thoughts were interrupted as a voice sounded in front of him.
"There you are Redstripe, we were looking for you. Did something happen? Are you alright? You look a little troubled."
It was just Autumnbreeze. Another cat who he felt at ease and joyful with. But he had a connection with the dark-furred tortoiseshell. Birchstar was just a cat from another Clan. There were no feelings or commitments attached. Right?
"Yes, I'm fine. Me and all the deputies of RiverClan and ShadowClan were just discussing a few things.... But it was nothing big. I'm here now." He mewed padding forward to press his muzzle against her side. All worries on him and Birchstar fading away at her sweet scent. He would just have to forget about her. She was a cat, well leader, of WindClan and he was ShadowClan's deputy. They would simply never be friends and that was that. There was nothing he could do about it. And it would stay that way.
(So sorry for disappearing on this thread. I haven't really been that active lately due to school purposes. But I'm trying to do better. Would you like to skip to their meeting?)

[ don't worry about it, it's fine. real life is more important than any role-play c: and sure; want me to start it? ]
A small jolt of excitement ran through Birchstar. She was going to meet with Redstripe tomorrow. She felt herself kneading the ground, but she quickly stopped herself. It was just a professional meeting, a deputy to a leader. What was so exciting about that? Nothing. Nothing was exciting about that. The she-cat took in a breath of the heather-scented air. Calm down, Birchstar, calm down.
The tom's voice snapped her out of her thoughts. Birchstar nodded, amber eyes looking over Redstripe for a moment. She felt the tips of her ears go warm, and she leaned her head down, licking at a few stray hairs upon her chest. Slowly she glanced back up to the tabby tom. "I'll see you then," she mewed, wanting so badly to reach forward and press her nose against his cheek in a sign of affectionate good-bye. But why did she feel the need to be affectionate toward the tom? They were only acquaintances nothing more. Once again she found herself taking a deep breath to calm herself down. "Until tomorrow," she breathed as the tom spun around and began to head back to his own territory. Following suit, Birchstar headed back to her own Clan. They would be wondering about her by now so it was time to go back home.

It had taken too long to get out of camp this morning. Heatherclaw, while she had every right to be concerned about her leader, had been too questioning for Birchstar's liking. Finally the cream tabby had been able to leave, but not without her fur ruffled and worry that she was late running through her mind. Birchstar had been stricter on her warriors as of late, but that didn't mean things would become perfect over night. Eaglefoot and Antwing were still as snarky and aggressive as usual. Icetail had even attacked one of his Clanmates when they disagreed with him. And that hadn't been the worse thing... The leader shook her head. She was going to meet Redstripe. The thought alone brought a little spring to her step. Even if it was just a meeting about business she couldn't help but feel excitement tingling through her fur.
Racing through the heather, Birchstar gracefully ran across the moor to their chosen meeting place. She quickly took a glance up at the sky; the sun was already halfway above the horizon. Dawn was now early morning. She was running late. Would Redstripe still be there? Would he have waited for her or was he already done waiting? The thought of him having already left caused Birchstar to speed up her pace. She soon had the meeting place in sight. Heart racing, she pushed forward once more and skidded to a halt once she was close, hoping desperately that the ShadowClan deputy was there.

Birdsong sounded nonstop from the tall Oak trees that made of Fourtrees. And faint rays of sunlight dapple through the branches and onto the hollow beneath. Bees were buzzing lazily around the greenery below the great oaks. And a few squirrels stood nibbling on plants and sniffing around the oaks roots. Its such a beautiful day.
Redstripe lay sprawled out on his side atop the great rock. Dozing peacefully in the sunlight. Unconsciously giving delightful purrs at the time relaxation he was finally getting to himself. It felt good to be away from his clanmates and their troublesome attitudes or the constant talk on WindClan. Ugh. If I here one more negative conversation about WindClan, I think I'll just climb right into a fox's jaws. After Nightstar's accusations towards Birchstar, things in ShadowClan hadn't really been going so well, for him anyways. Cats were discussing battle plans and advancing their fighting techniques, preparing for a battle. Even the kits were imagining fighting WindClan. It was all chaos. But that didn't seem important to him now.
Where was Birchstar? He'd easily gotten away from his Clan in order to have this meeting. The patrols were sorted and everything was in place. Not even Autumnbreeze had bothered to bother him that morning. Maybe Birchstar was running late. Or she'd decided not to meet him because of Nightstar.
The thought made him scramble to his paws. What if she really did change her mind. Had he walked all the way here for nothing? To find disappointment? No. Birchstar was not a cruel cat. She would keep her word and meet him.
Speaking of Birchstar, someone was approaching. The scent of cat was blowing directly towards him from WindClan's territory. Almost immediately he knew it was Birchstar. Quickly, he smoothed down his fur so he'd look presentable and scrambled down from the great rock. Waiting patiently for her approach.

The sun was warm against the tabby’s pelt. Luckily she sported the naturally thin coat that all WindClanners had, and with her pelt being as light as it was, the warmth wasn’t as bad as it could have been. A breeze cut through the air from time to time, bringing forth a fresh scent of open moorland and closed off forest. The musky scent of forest grew closer and closer as Birchstar neared Fourtrees. The air spoke of ThunderClan scent. Perhaps their dawn patrol had just passed to mark their border closest to Fourtrees, and with the wind coming from that direction, it was no wonder that the air reeked of that particular Clan. Other than the stench the day was wonderful. Warm, with a nice breeze… And to top it all off, she was going to meet Redstripe. But only for business. Yes, business, nothing more than that.
Even still, the thoughts in the leader’s mind ran rampant. From fuzzy thoughts about Redstripe to dark memories of what was going on in her Clan, Birchstar just couldn’t get away from her mental war. Even if she had been stricter on her cats as of late, that didn’t stop everything right away. Eaglefoot was still a menace even to her own Clanmates. Antwing was still as snappy as ever about needing to fight ShadowClan. Icetail, though, was being ridiculous. Ever since he had heard the news of Nightstar’s accusations the son of the last WindClan leader was ready for an all out slaughter of ShadowClan. Birchstar was keeping an even closer eye on the white-furred tom than usual. She had even asked Heatherclaw to be careful when she sent him on patrols. He was an experienced warrior, no telling what he could do.
These thoughts followed Birchstar all the way to Fourtrees. Even the knowledge of being late kept pestering her over and over again. Finally she came a few pawsteps from the hidden barrier around the gathering area. The cream tabby pushed through, coming to a halt when she spotted the familiar pelt of Redstripe. Instantly she felt self-conscious. Had her run left her fur all ruffled? Did she look like she had been in a tangle with a badger? To her Redstripe looked as smooth-furred as a weasel all the while she felt as ruffled as a bird.
Hoping to make herself look a bit more presentable, Birchstar leaned down and lapped at her chest a few times. She then glanced back up, amber eyes on Redstripe. She flicked her thin tail in greeting. ”My apologies for running late,” she breathed. Even though she said no more, a flash in her amber eyes spoke of something troubling her. Only with Redstripe did she feel comfortable enough to let her thoughts and emotions truly show. She knew she shouldn’t be this comfortable around the tom, but she couldn’t help herself. There was just something about him that made her feel so at ease and open.

Redstripe's eyes lit up as Birchstar appeared through the bushes atop the hollow. His tail going straight up and his paws itching with excitement. Because we'll finally get to converse, nothing more. He told himself sternly, putting his usually calm mask on. He still had to keep his cool around her, despite how much he didn't want to, after all, she was a cat from a rival Clan. An enemy Clan at that let his clanmates tell it.
But he still couldn't exactly put his paw on it. Why he always fell so calm and good whenever she was near. She was the leader of WindClan for StarClan's sake. She shouldn't even be taking the time out of her day to see him. She should have been taking care of her Clan. What does it matter anyways? We shouldn't even be concerned with each other's Clans. I'm breaking so many rules and skimming over so many tasks as deputy right now. But it was worth it, no matter the cons of the whole situation on meeting Birchstar.
"No, no, its fine. I was having a pretty delightful time waiting actually. The Great Rock makes a nice sunning place. There aren't a lot of places to sun in ShadowClan territory." He mewed, padding a little ways forward as she neared. A small, welcoming smile on his face. Amber eyes gleaming.
But his smile soon faded when she came closer. She looked... troubled. Like she hadn't rested in days. And of course Redstripe knew that face, being around his own leader most of the time. "Are you okay?"

A small part of Birchstar was glad to hear that Redstripe had been enjoying himself while she was running late. It was better for him to feel comfortable and calm than for him to be blanketed with worry just because she had been running behind. For a brief moment she offered a smile toward the tom. ”In all those pines it must be hard to sun,” she teased lightly, whiskers twitching with a small bout of amusement.
The amusement soon faded like dew in the sunlight. Being around Redstripe was enjoyable, made her feel young and carefree almost. But no matter what he made her feel like there was just something too dark lingering in her mind. It had stirred up her cats. It had taken a lot for her to keep Eaglefoot, Icetail, and Antwing at bay. Even some of her more placid warriors had been ready for a battle against ShadowClan.
Leaders shouldn’t be vulnerable like this, especially not in front of a cat from a rival Clan. But this was just Redstripe. It was okay to show him her feelings, right? ”Before the gathering last night, one of our apprentices, Goldenpaw, went missing,” Birchstar mewed softly. Before leaving she had Heatherclaw send out some of the finest trackers WindClan had to offer. Eaglefoot had been on that patrol, one reason why she didn’t show up to the gathering last night. When they returned they had brought back something horrific. ”She was found by the border...broken and beaten. There was no sign of fox or badger, not even dog.” Birchstar glanced up at the tabby tom, eyes shimmering with guilt and grief and uncertainty. ”After what Nightstar said last night, most of WindClan believe it was ShadowClan.” At this her voice faltered and she looked away from Redstripe. Did she think ShadowClan had a part of Goldenpaw’s murder? Honestly, she wasn’t sure. But there wasn’t enough evidence to say it was ShadowClan for sure. All they had to go by was the fact that the apprentice had been found near the border.

Redstripe didn't know how to respond to what Birchstar was telling him. Apart of him felt sorry and terrified for her Clan's loss, another part of him was angry that she was even wondering if his clanmates could ever do such a thing. The tabby stood in silence for a moment, fury boiling over inside of him though he kept a calm expression. The only sign of him taking offence by WindClan's accusation was the constant twitching of his tail. He opened to jaws to give a calm reply, but what came out was definitely not intended.
"Honestly? Is that all you've been wanting to tell me? To ask if the accusations your clanmates spread around their camp? And why didn't you mention it at the gathering? To scared to feel mouse-brained because ShadowClan proved you wrong? Maybe we're having a hard time with our clans at this time, but that gives you no excuse to blame ShadowClan. We may be hostile, but we're not harmless. Nightstar isn't just some cold-hearted fox that you can just push around, making assumptions about him, he's had a harder time living his life than any WindClan cat could ever think of. Maybe he did accuse your Clan for tricking his own, but he's no murderer. It could have easily been a monster or one of those no-hearted badgers you call your clanmates trying to make ShadowClan look cold."
The tom then gave a small sigh, padding a little way from Birchstar, his eyes fixed on the ground. What was he doing? This was a peace meeting, and he'd lost his temper. Besides, he couldn't tell now, but he thought he may have been going a little too far. Redstripe sucked in a deep breath before continuing. "Birchstar, I'd thought great things of you. Despite our differences, I never thought you would consider believing such a thing. I-I thought you understood the hardship my Clan was going through, but apparently I was wrong." Redstripe paused and turned back to her. His amber eyes clear with his disappointment, and maybe some hurt. "Your still a WindClan cat. I should have thought better to consider trusting you if you can't seem to trust me enough."
What was he even saying anymore? He honestly thought he sounded foolish. Letting Birchstar really know what was going on in his mind, and how he felt about her. I should have known from the beginning that this was all some scam to get at ShadowClan. I should have just agreed with Nightstar and stuck to the original plan. But no, he decided to agree with Birchstar and gain peace for their Clans.
But still, it felt wrong. Being angry with Birchstar, of all cats to argue with, it didn't feel natural to argue with her. And why did it make him feel hurt? Surely he should have known it was coming sooner or later if he got too close to a cat of another Clan. Redstripe sighed, sitting down and looking away. Why was this all so confusing? He wanted to hate Birchstar for even thinking about accusing his Clan for murder. But he didn't. He didn't want to. After all he just said he wanted to apologize. But his pride was too high. So he just sat there looking in the distance.

[ ooooo steven universe ]
It took Birchstar a moment to notice the way Redstripe’s tail was twitching back and forth. Had she said something wrong? What was the matter with him? She had thought she had said nothing of insult toward him or his Clan; she had merely stated that a lot of her cats believed ShadowClan had something to do with the mysterious death of Goldenpaw. Why would they not believe something like that? With tensions as high as they were, of course cats were going to point paws. Had something like this happened to ShadowClan, Birchstar was sure they would be blaming WindClan.
Redstripe’s words caught the light tabby off guard. She stepped back, eyes round with unbridled shock. ”Redstripe…” She mewed under her breath, staring at him. Her fur prickled along her spine, her tail curling down as if wanting to rest between her hind legs. ”I never said I thought ShadowClan had something to do with this. All I stated was that a lot of WindClan believe this. If it had been one of your apprentices wouldn’t most of ShadowClan want to blame WindClan?” The initial shock Birchstar felt was fading away. Her own annoyance was beginning to bubble into her words. ”I have no idea what happened to Goldenpaw, and how many times does a leader report something that they have no background on? Do I just tell the other Clans I lost track of an apprentice? No cat knew what happened until after the gathering.”
The WindClan leader fell silent. She hadn’t realized just how worked up she had mentally gotten as she had been speaking. Her heart was pounding against her chest so hard she was sure that Redstripe could hear it. As the tom took a step back so did she. All she could do was look at him with eyes still wide. Had she been too harsh with her words? Too cold? Something inside of her felt broken at the thought of becoming enemies with Redstripe. Had she just soured their...their...their what? This wasn’t a friendship. This wasn’t anything, was it? Though the more Birchstar tried telling her that this was nothing, the tighter her chest became.
The she-cat took a moment to think her words through, to think Redstripe’s words through. After a moment she took in a deep breath in hopes that it would calm her down. ”Redstripe, please, I never meant to make it sound like I was accusing your Clan of murder. Why would I when there’s no hard evidence for it? There was no signs of a predator, but that doesn’t mean anything. There wasn’t any sign of it being a ShadowClan cat, either. I do trust you, I really do.” Though you shouldn’t. He’s a ShadowClan cat, you’re a WindClan cat, some rational part of her brain told her. She shook the thought away. No matter what she was told, she knew she trusted Redstripe. ”I’m sorry,” she murmured. Unlike the tom before her she felt no pride. Why would she? She felt hurt, betrayed almost. Redstripe was a cat that Birchstar never wanted to hurt, but yet, here she was, hurting him with her words. If he never wanted to talk with her again after this she would understand. Did the thought of that happening feel like a fresh wound? Oh, it sure did. It felt like a wound that would take a life from her, a wound that was deep inside her chest and wouldn’t heal without divine help. Not talking to the tabby tom ever again, at least not in a friendly way, just hurt worse than any wound Birchstar had ever had in her life. She knew this feeling wasn’t right, but there was nothing she could do to stop the fiery pain she was experiencing right now.

(Yep X3. This is my favorite Steven U song + pearl is also my favorite character. I adore how she had feelings for Rose even though Rose loved someone else.)
Redstripe sat in silence for a moment longer. Letting Birchstar's words absorb into him. Redstripe, the deputy of ShadowClan, and one of the calmest cats in ShadowClan, was losing his temper over silly accusations based on WindClan. But they weren't just any accusations, they were very serious. Cats making assumptions that ShadowClan had killed an apprentice, that they had no proof of them doing. And I lost my temper over it. Hesitantly, he turned back to look at Birchstar. His eyes widening and his ears lay flat against his head, though it was not aggressively, but in guilt.
Birchstar looked so... distraught and hurt. All because..... All because of me.
"Birchstar... I-" He paused and got to his paws, padding closer to her and butted his head against her flank in a friendly and comforting manner. "Its fine. I shouldn't have overreacted like that. I just was upset that ShadowClan is an option on who killed that apprentice. I didn't mean any of those things I said about you or your clanmates. And... I'm sorry."
It felt weird. Being so close to her. Touching her. But it was weird in a good way. All his worries and troubles seemed to melt away now that he was close to her. Redstripe knew he shouldn't have, but he wanted to. Instinct told him too. For once it was something that felt natural.

[ It really is a great song, definitely one of my favorites. It’s so hard for me to pick a favorite character, I love them all so much x3 And yeah, Pearl was just so loyal to Rose and still is. ]
Deep down Birchstar could see where Redstripe was coming from. If the tables were turned and paws were pointing at her Clan she would want to defend herself and WindClan as well. She was leader after all, she was supposed to put her Clan first even more so than typical warriors. She knew why Redstripe reacted like he did, but it still hurt. Seeing the usually calm and even tempered tomcat snap - snap at her for that matter - really shook her. Even he seemed to be shaken up over it; the way he looked right now, the way he was flattening his ears in a gesture of guilt, made Birchstar realize just how much hurt he was feeling as well.
The tabby wanted to do nothing more than reach out and nuzzle him in comfort. Before she could do as much Redstripe stepped forward and butted her in the flank as a gesture of comfort. The leader felt her pelt prickle in an oddly warm way at his touch. Amber eyes looked to the reddish-brown tabby. ”I’m sorry if my words came out as accusations. I didn’t mean to upset you.” And she truly meant it. Never once had she meant to upset the tomcat.
Before Birchstar could even stop herself, she stepped closer to Redstripe and leaned forward, nuzzling him against his cheek. She knew this was wrong, but if it was so wrong, why did it feel so natural? Being here with him, talking with him...she had never felt so at ease around another cat. It was like some cruel twist of fate not having some cat like Redstripe in her own Clan. That would certainly make things feel a lot less complicated when it came to her jumbled up feelings.

The russet-brown tabby's fur prickled all over when he was nuzzled. His paws growing hot with nervousness. What if someone was watching them? What if someone saw the leader of WindClan with the deputy of ShadowClan all alone and in this position? Deep down he wanted to move away from the affectionate gesture, but he didn't. Redstripe pushed the thought aside before awkwardly sitting down. Birchstar's whiskers brushing against his muzzle as he did so. Now that they had that out the way, they could talk. Without misunderstandings and overreactions. "So... we came here to talk about your progress. How have things been for you in WindClan? Are they realizing whose the real leader yet, or no? Other than, the incident." Hopefully things were getting better for her. With the sudden murder of Goldenpaw, rebellious clanmates was the last thing she needed.
He could only imagine how she was struggling to take ownership in her own Clan. I wish any of my clanmates would dare to pull stunts like that on me. The tom frowned at the thought of it. What would he do if his own cats were slowly turning on him? Show them what happens when you disobey your leader. A cold voice sounded in his mind. No. That was what Nightstar would do. He would most likely show who the top dog was in the situation, maybe get them shaken up to teach a lesson. Probably not.
But that was a question he needed to be asking himself. What would I do if I was in Birchstar's position?

There was a sweet moment when all of Birchstar’s worries were gone. It was a second of peaceful bliss. It was a minute of serendipitous harmony. But it was over as soon as it had begun. Rational thoughts rushed through the tabby she-cat’s mind. What if they were caught? No other cats should be around Fourtrees, or at least not within the confines of the trees, but what if a nearby border patrol from one of the Clans scented her and Redstripe and came to investigate? They would be caught in this gesture that should not be shared by rival Clan cats.
A flick of the tabby’s tail spoke of the faint embarrassment running through hr at the moment. Luckily it soon vanished, leaving her to be. Birchstar looked over at Redstripe. Yes, yes, they had come here to talk business. ”I’ve become stricter with them. Not by a lot, I don’t want to become a dictator.” I’m not like Tigerstar, Birchstar thought bitterly to herself. Nightstar was wrong, she was nothing like that traitorous cat. ”After Goldenpaw’s body was found, there were quite a few of my cats ready to jump into battle, but I was able to keep them at bay. Not even Eaglefoot dared to cross me.” That was a first and hopefully not a last. The she-cat sighed after a moment. ”Even if I get my warriors to calm down, there will still be aggression. As long as Eaglefoot, and even Icetail are around, I don’t think we’ll ever have total peace among our Clans,” Birchstar murmured as she looked down at her paws. Was she showing too much weakness to Redstripe? She was doing her best as leader of her Clan, and she was trying even harder to be a strong leader right now. Stopping her Clan from attacking ShadowClan last night had been a huge victory for Birchstar, but how long would her victories last? Perhaps she would fully get used to the idea of being rightfully strict to her cats.
