Birchstar nodded. Redstripe was right. She just had to do all she could, had to show her Clan that she was the rightful leader, and that meant her Clan had to listen to what she had to say and what she believed. For some reason Birchstar felt at ease to hear the words from Redstripe of all cats. He was from a rival Clan, and not only that, he was that Clan's deputy. Birchstar shouldn't feel as comfortable around him as she did, but for some reason something just kept her at ease around the russet tabby. Was it the way he held himself? Or was it something else? The tabby leader had absolutely no idea, all she knew was that she was comfortable around him. Comfortable being alone with him.
The cream tabby dipped her head in respect toward the other tabby. "Thank you, Redstripe. Your words are greatly appreciated." Birchstar offered a faint smile toward the ShadowClan deputy before she slowly pushed herself to her paws. She shook out her thin pelt. "If that's all then I can get Houndear to escort you back," she mewed with a tilt of her head. The she-cat was sure the black warrior was still around, but if he wasn't, perhaps Hickoryburn or even Heatherclaw could bring the tomcat back to his border. Birchstar herself wouldn't mind doing it, either, especially since that meant having more time alone with the tomcat she found to be interesting for some reason.

Redstripe was silent for a moment. Legitimately not wanting Houndear to escort him to the border, but Birchstar herself. It may have sounded pretty weird or suspicious that a cat from another Clan wanted to be alone with a rival Clan's leader. But the ShadowClanner truly meant no harm. But he could never ask, Birchstar would probably turn him down or show suspicion towards him as all of her clanmates did. But Birchstar's not like that. She would surely agree, wouldn't she? The only way to find out was asking. Clearing his throat, Redstripe glanced up at Birchstar, "Well, I mean, Houndear isn't the best to converse with on a long journey. If you don't mind, perhaps you could walk me to the border and we could continue discussing our problem?" He tried to make it sound as professional as possible. Not wanting to sound too needy. Not only was it just the tabby wanting her company, but he honestly did want the she-cat to continue their conversation between their two Clans. And strangely enough Redstripe wanted to be closer to her. Not how he was with Autumnbreeze, but how he was close to Nightstar and Blackstripe. Birchstar seemed trustworthy enough for him to call a friend. But did she think the same of him?
(Sorry this is short, I'm kind of busy multi-tasking at the moment.)

Hearing Redstripe ask for her companionship on the way back to his own territory made the tabby she-cat flare up with odd joy. She literally had to stop herself from jumping to her paws and nudging him along with a friendly tease. StarClan, why was she feeling so weird about this? Was she really that excited to be continuing this conversation? Surely not. But she did like his company. He was a nice tom despite being from ShadowClan, and he was well-versed with his words and thoughts. He was enjoyable to be around, especially in a stressful time like this.
Birchstar, swallowing down her unnecessary excitement, pushed herself to her paws and nodded to Redstripe. "Of course. Getting fresh air should give us more ways to think everything through." That was the truth. The moor's heather-scented air always cleared Birchstar's mind. She always felt refreshed and at ease with what was around her when she stepped outside and took a walk. The leader was sure taking a walk with Redstripe would be just as stress relieving as any other.
Motioning with her tail for the tabby tom to follow, Birchstar turned and began to head out of her den. "Would you like to take something from the fresh-kill before we head out? We have more than enough prey to go around."
[That's fine, don't worry about it uvu ]

Redstripe looked taken aback for a moment before shaking his head. "No thank you, I have to make sure my own Clan is well fed before feeding myself. But thank you again for the offer." The ShadowClan deputy oddly felt warm at her offer. How generous it was of her to offer him, a cat of another Clan, some of her own fresh-kill. It was quiet rare to find rabbits straying into ShadowClan territory. It was if the little creatures knew that cats with the coldest of hearts lived there, and showed no mercy to trespassers, both predators and prey. But of course that wasn't true at all. Just a story queens told their kits. A story I myself am not very fond of.
But this wasn't what was important now. He was going on a walk with Birchstar. He would really have her alone to talk to in privacy. Sure her den was good, but you'd never know who could be eavesdropping on their leader while a cat from ShadowClan, of all the Clans, were in a private meeting. And walking on open territory wasn't all that great either. Any oncoming patrols could spot them chatting and feel suspicious towards the two. And StarClan knows I don't have time for that. Besides, what was there to worry? Everyone knew he had his interest on Autumnbreeze, and she had the same towards him. Other cats noticed this type of stuff right? And if they did, did they gossip about it? No, no, of course they wouldn't care about my personal relationships. I bet Birchstar has cats of her own to worry about, let alone me and Autumnbreeze.
Lost in thought, Redstripe showed himself to the camp entrance. Totally unaware of the growls and looks he was sent as he made his way over. The tabby seemed not to be fazed by it anymore. But did he really have his interests on Autumnbreeze? Majority of the time he'd turned her down or they'd have casual chats. But I saved her when she was losing the fight with Eaglefoot. Doesn't that count? He wasn't sure. The tom let out a sigh, glancing back at Birchstar and waiting for her to lead him out.

Even if WindClan and ShadowClan were enemies right now, Birchstar had to show the deputy some hospitality. She was not the enemy of ShadowClan, not herself directly. The enemies of ShadowClan were most of her own warriors who would never show hospitality toward any cat of ShadowClan, not even an ancient and wise elder of the other Clan. She nodded in return to his response. "Quite a noble reason to turn down a rabbit," she mewed with a bit of a laugh in her words. "Not many cats would look away from a meal like that." While her voice suggested a light tease she was serious about is as well. Rabbits weren't easy for other Clans to catch, and turning down such a succulent meal was hard for even the noblest of warriors. Birchstar admired Redstripe's nobility and deep dedicated to the warrior code.
None of that right now was important. She pushed aside the thoughts of Redstripe and rabbits as she padded out of the den and into the main camp. Immediately she heard a hiss coming from the center of camp. Eaglefoot, she thought with a low growl embedded in the back of her throat. Birchstar turned to eye her sister who was glaring at the leader and ShadowClan deputy with malice in her dark amber gaze. Birchstar snorted; she needed to ignore her littermate. This wasn't the place to show Eaglefoot any such weakness or to show her that her actions fazed the leader. She ignored the growls and hisses of her sister and the words of anger from other Clanmates. Among the throng of her warriors she noticed Antwing bristling and baring his fangs. She ignored him as well, not paying attention to any hostile warriors. The cat she did pay attention to, however, was her deputy. "Heatherclaw," she called, nodding to the slender she-cat. "Watch camp for me, will you? I'm seeing that our visitor makes it back safely."
Heatherclaw's eyes flashed with quick concern. "Are you not taking another warrior with you?"
Birchstar flicked her tail. "No need for that. Redstripe will do no harm. He can be trusted." She said no more to the deputy as she padded out of camp with Redstripe following after her. Now she could truly be alone with the russet tabby.

Redstripe glared back at Eaglefoot. Amber eyes narrowed with disapproval. He couldn't imagine every following such a dishonorable warrior. If anything, I'd be against her mouse-brained ways. His red tabby head whipped around as more hisses and threatening comments were made by other WindClan cats. And before he knew it his neck fur was bristling with unease.
But then Birchstar had simply ignored her clanmates. Pushing her way through the gorse entrance. Redstripe watched after her in admiration before following. Forcing his fur to lie flat and give a sigh, trying to calm himself. Now he had experienced what Birchstar had to go through everyday. Her clanmates were insubordinate towards her. They challenged her authority. Went against her rules. How could anyone live in such a Clan without losing their mind? "Does this happen a lot?" He began, quickening his pace so that he matched Birchstar's stride though still kept his distance. "Are your cats always so rowdy? Even on the simplest of days? I mean, is there ever one day where you live a normal Clan life?" Redstripe couldn't help asking so many questions because WindClan's behavior was unbelievable. It was hard to even believe cats were split into different sides all in one territory. Eaglefoot's cats vs. Birchstar's authority. Since he wasn't exactly sure if all the cats were hostile to one another.
"Its hard to believe you don't snap out on them quiet often. When I first became deputy, a lot of cats challenged my authority. But I earned my respect putting cats exactly where the belonged." His amber eyes wandered across the moorland, just making out the distant forest of pine trees ahead of them. He remembered how he and Blackstripe had always argued over patrols and orders. A good thing we worked that out. Now wasn't a good time for rivalries inside of his Clan with how hostile things were with ShadowClan and WindClan.

The best thing to do in the moment was to ignore them. They were angry that she had allowed a cat like Redstripe into the Clan's camp. Had it been a cat from RiverClan or ThunderClan and they would have been just fine with it, but put a ShadowClanner into their midst and they turned into snarling foxes over nothing. After what Redstripe had told her, Birchstar was already formulating how to deal with her Clan once she got back.
There was the slightest hint of amusement that passed through Birchstar at Redstripe's questions. She turned to look over at him. "They're not always this rowdy, no. There are days when we can be a normal Clan." The amusement then vanished, draining out of her like water trickling down a slope. "As of late, though, those normal days are farther and farther in-between. Something needs to be done. You were right, Redstripe," the she-cat mewed, looking at the tabby tom with a firmness in her eyes, "I need to start showing them who's in charge." If she wanted hostilities between ShadowClan to come to an end, then she had to start with her Clan first. She was the leader of her Clan, not Eaglefoot. And it was time to show her Clan that.
Birchstar listened to what Redstripe had to say before she spoke again. She nodded to his words, thinking them through for a good moment. Finally, she mewed, "A lot of cats were angry with Cloudstar when he picked me as his deputy instead of Eaglefoot. He kept them mostly in check. The Clan never was this bad when I was just deputy, probably because Cloudstar allowed them to take their aggression out on ShadowClan. By the time they finished the battle, they were too worked up over ShadowClan to fight within the Clan." The tabby shook her head, not wanting to make it sound like she wanted Redstripe to feel bad for her. She was merely speaking the truth, that was all. Birchstar slowed her pace somewhat, coming into step right beside the ShadowClan deputy. "I can't imagine cats challenging you. You seem like the kind of cat everybody is willing to stand up for." The compliment made Birchstar's ear-tips grow hot for a moment. She was speaking what she thought, but how would Redstripe take it? He was from the enemy Clan, and while neither one of them wanted to be hostile, that didn't mean being friends was a goal.

Redstripe's pelt began to prickle at how awkward he'd began to feel at Birchstar's comment. "Well, I mean, not that they didn't necessarily like me, cats were just jealous. I mean, who could ever get enough of me, the Redstripe." He joked with a purr of amusement, tail flicking from side to side. If only his clanmates could see him now. Joking around with a WindClan cat. What was he thinking. Anyone would think something was going on between us. He thought, looking away from Birchstar on ahead towards his own territory. The russet colored tabby could never be friends or even allies with the WindClan leader, neither of their clanmates would be accepting of it. And the pale she-cat was already in a bad place within her Clan.
"So, I can't help wondering.... Were you and Eaglefoot ever close? I mean, as littermates?" He asked, glancing over at her curiously. Surely the two hadn't been on bad-terms since day one? There had to be some kind of bond between the two sisters. "You don't have to tell me if you don't want. I am a cat of a rival Clan after all." It may have been an emotional story that lead to the two sisters' split in their relationship. Perhaps it all started on that first border quarrel between our Clans...

There was a purr of amusement rippling against Birchstar’s throat at Redstripe’s joke. She had the urge to nudge him like she would a Clanmate, but she held back, curbing her urge by giving a swift lick to her chest. ”I suppose no cat from ShadowClan can. Especially Autumnbreeze,” she mewed with a wry glance at the tomcat. Even if she didn’t live in ShadowClan, Birchstar had seen the way Autumnbreeze acted around Redstripe and how she looked at him. If there was one cat who couldn’t get enough of the deputy, it was her.
Wait. Did that sound weird? Was it weird that she had noticed something as private as Redstripe’s love life? Luckily she had a question to answer that could get the two off that topic. ”We were at one point. Eaglefoot was mentored by Icetail. He’s Cloudstar’s son, and he followed Cloudstar without question. That’s how he trained her, to go along with Cloudstar and to hate ShadowClan.” Birchstar let out a slow sigh as she thought about her apprentice days. ”My mentor wasn’t fond of the tension between the Clans. What happened was we were trained by two totally different-minded cats. Eaglefoot grew her own opinions, and I grew mine. That’s what eventually drew us apart.” Birchstar didn’t want Redstripe to feel sorry for her, that wasn’t the point of her opening up to him, something just made her feel comfortable enough around him to give him an answer. The tabby glanced over at him, head cocked slightly. ”Do you have any littermates?”

So it was noticeable. Redstripe felt his ears grow hot at the mention of Autumnbreeze, looking away from Birchstar once again. Birchstar was one of the last cats he wanted to talk about Autumnbreeze with. Not that he didn't trust the WindClanner or anything, just for the plain fact that it didn't feel right talking to her about his love life. He didn't know why, but it just made him feel uncomfortable.
But luckily the subject was changed once Birchstar began to speak on Eaglefoot and their past. Redstripe was silent for the most part, unsure what to say or how to react on her story. It seemed their relationship as siblings hadn't last very long. They'd only been friendly with one another through kithood and half of their apprenticeship. After that everything had changed. How sad. He thought, glancing over at Birchstar with sympathy clear in his amber eyes. He couldn't imagine living such a life. Hmph. But then Birchstar asked him a question. One about his own littermates. No one had asked him about his siblings for a while now. Perhaps because most cats in ShadowClan left things in the past whether than bringing old memories to the present. "I only have one surviving sibling. Two brothers. One died out of sickness during apprenticeship. And I'm sure you know my other sibling, Morningdusk. ShadowClan's medicine cat." Redstripe didn't much like bringing up his former sibling. For that'd been his closest brother out of the three of them. His death was so sudden and tragic..... After his brother's death, he and Morningdusk had begun to edge apart, taking different paths. Of course they talked every now and then, but that was only if they needed too.
Redstripe gave a shaky sigh, closing his eyes for a moment. Wanting to change the subject.... "What about you? Is there anyone particular in your life?" Sure it was so sudden, but she'd brought up Autumbreeze. Now it was his turn.

For a while there Birchstar wondered if she had crossed the line. Redstripe had asked about her family, her littermate, so the leader only thought it would be okay for her to ask the same to Redstripe, but had that been too much? Birchstar and Redstripe weren't really friends, were they? Surely not, they were from two different Clans. They were merely acquaintances, that was all.
Fortunately, her worries were pushed to the side when Redstripe began to speak. She angled her ears in his general direction, listening to him as he spoke of his brothers, one deceased and one the medicine cat. "Morningdusk is a wonderful cat," she began with a twitch of her tail-tip. She didn't know a lot about the tomcat other than what she saw at gatherings or what she heard from Bucktail, her Clan's medicine cat. He seemed quite skilled and adept. His healing abilities must be wonderful as, for as much as Birchstar knew, a wide sickness had not spread from within ShadowClan in a long time. "Bucktail seems to enjoy his company." Then again, Bucktail enjoyed any cat's company.
Redstripe's question made Birchstar pause in her steps for a second. He had a right to ask such a question considering she had brought up Autumnbreeze earlier. Taking a breath, Birchstar continued to walk on, gathering her response in silence a moment longer. Finally, she spoke up. "No, not really. I've never really found a cat to truly connect with. I was busy with warrior duties, and now that I'm leader..." She broke her words off and shrugged. "Perhaps StarClan doesn't have that written in my path." Would she like to have a mate and kits? Of course, but did she necessarily feel the urge to need all of that? Not really. She was content with what she had, but if she ever had the chance to become a mate and mother, she would take it with no hesitation.

Redstripe looked over at her. Giving a sly grin, amber eyes gleaming. "Pity. I would have thought the whole of WindClan would be chasing after you." He wasn't flirting or anything, or trying to come off as a flirt towards Birchstar. He was showing his natural, humorist, self. Nothing more. And if Birchstar thought he was flirting with her then she had the wrong idea. Sure she was quiet the attractive she-cat, everything Redstripe had hoped for in a she-cat; intelligent, beautiful, loyal, serious about her work. And she only joked around when necessary. That's everything Autumnbreeze lacks. Said a voice in his mind. But as much as Redstripe wanted to disagree, it was right. Autumnbreeze was of course, very beautiful, loyal to her Clan, and intelligent. But she wasn't the most focused of cats on her work. This peeved him on many levels. Being deputy and all, it was quiet frustrating seeing his cats having problems or requesting to switch patrols to be with certain cats. But he could tell by her simple movements and decisions that Birchstar was all of those things. But they could never be together and he could never show any interest in wanting to be with her. It was simply against rules. Besides, they didn't have time for forbidden romance drama.

For just a second Birchstar felt a rush of warmth run through her. Was Redstripe...? Was he...? No. No, no. The tabby tomcat wouldn't be flirting with her, he was from another Clan! And even if he was from her own Clan he wouldn't be interested in her at all. What tomcat would be?
After a momentary pause, the light cream tabby found her voice once again. She eyed the tomcat with her amber eyes, a mischievous glance in her eyes. "All of WindClan only chase rabbits." It was nice to be able to joke around and tease with another cat, even if he wasn't part of her Clan. Birchstar couldn't help but wish that things were different, that Redstripe was part of her Clan, or, heck, that she was part of his Clan. How would things be then? If they were in the same Clan then they could actually be friends. They could spend time together and be close. But no. StarClan had other plans for them. They were to be only acquaintances and nothing more. That was all there was to it.
The thunderpath soon came into view. Birchstar flicked her tail. She felt her nose scrunch up as the vile scent of the monsters' hunting grounds came into view. Something in her chest ached as the realization of Redstripe leaving came to her. There time was growing shorter and shorter, and Birchstar was silently wishing that they had more time together.

Redstripe gave a chuckle at Birchstar's joke. It was strange, but the tabby tom actually felt at ease with the WindClan she-cat. As if he'd known her for moons upon moons now. Which he sort of had in a way... But Redstripe'd never felt like Birchstar was his friend when they were deputies together. She was just his associate then. They'd never had a reason to converse really. It was always just a 'how's the Clan running' type of conversation. Never a free and playful chat like the two were having now.
But it wasn't going to last much longer. The border was just a few tail-lengths away now, and the familiar stench of the thunderpath came to his nostrils once again. The shadows of the tall pine trees were calling to him. The russet-brown tabbythen turned to Birchstar, dipping his head to her yet again, this time in farewell. "Goodbye, Birchstar. I thank you for your time. We had a good talk, and I'm glad we've sorted a few things out for our Clans." He paused, standing up straighter and taking a few steps away from the pale tabby. "I'll see you at the gathering? You can tell me how your stricture nature is affecting your Clan then." Sure enough he would go to the gathering. Unless something came up, otherwise why wouldn't a deputy attend a gathering? A part of him wanted to stay a little longer, or give a proper, friendlier, goodbye. But they were too close to his home. you never know whose watch you here.

Seeing the border so nearby brought a sense of sorrow over Birchstar. Or was it really sorrow? The tabby wasn't sure what to call the emotion she was feeling, but it was something close to sadness, something close to a bittersweet feeling. It was a mix of longing, sadness, something else. The leader just couldn't put a name to it; all she knew was that it felt weird. Made her feel weird.
Birchstar turned to look at Redstripe. She pushed back the odd emotion she was experiencing to address him as any warrior would when the role of being an escort was finished. "I'm glad as well. It was a talk much needed." For only a brief moment she offered the russet tabby a soft smile, but just like that, it faded from her muzzle. She couldn't be seen as being too friendly with a rival feline. No telling who was watching from the shadows of the pine trees, or who was watching behind a path of thick heather. There was no way Birchstar would be able to give Redstripe a farewell she would much rather give him. "Of course. I'll make sure to tell you all about that this next gathering." Even though gatherings were usually friendly and care-free, it would be odd to see a leader talking so freely to another Clan's deputy. Especially when the leader and the deputy were from two different Clans that currently had it out for one another. Birchstar would have to come up with a way to pass on her news to him without it being odd.

Redstripe felt a rush of adrenaline when she shot him a brief smile. His ears growing hot and his fur beginning to prickle. And he tripped over his own paws as he began to pad a little way along the thunderpath. Giving his chest fur a few embarrassed licks, he turned to look back at the WindClan cat, "Goodbye Birchstar! I hope all goes well for you." With a sigh, he turned tail and trotted towards the edge of the thunderpath. The hard surface trembled beneath his paws as he neared, and he took a few paces back. Within seconds a brightly colored monster sped along the path. The grass on his side of the path flattening as it went by. And to think that could have been me hadn't I stepped away quick enough. Preparing himself, Redstripe pricked his ears, ready if another monster rounded the corner. But luckily, it didn't. And without hesitation he raced across the hard, gray surface. Not looking back until he had crossed the border. Trying to see if Birchstar had seen him across. And what ShadowClan warrior wants to know if a cat from WindClan made sure he was safe? Not a ShadowClan deputy, that was certainly for sure. Heaving another sigh, he trotted into the undergrowth, feeling more at home in the darkness of the pine trees. But a part of him felt... discouraged without Birchstar's company. No. He reminded himself firmly. His Clan came first. Besides, once he returned to camp, he would have Autumnbreeze's company. And that was good enough? Right?

A full moon glowed bright in the night sky. A brisk wind carried the scent of oncoming rain, but not a cloud was in sight as of yet. The rain would be here in the morning, Birchstar remembered Heatherclaw saying as they had slipped out of camp. At least the rain wouldn't stop the gathering, especially when Birchstar had to speak with a certain cat, a certain deputy. The thought of seeing him again made her speed up. Luckily her warriors followed along with swift paws. We're WindClan, she thought with pride. We don't do slow!
It wasn't long until the moor-dwelling felines arrived to the thicket that surrounded Fourtrees. Birchstar paused with Heatherclaw at her side. The leader kinked her tail high up in the air, scanning the area before she gave the signal to head on. She pushed through the thick undergrowth and was soon greeted by the sight of other Clans and their members. The tabby glanced up to where she would soon be seated. ThunderClan had yet to arrive. Odd, she thought to herself. Usually ThunderClan, with how close they lived to Fourtrees, was first to arrive. No matter, the night was still young and they would show up eventually.
Birchstar parted from her Clan as her members branched out to meet friends. Her amber eyes began to search for one cat in particular. She didn't have to take her seat just yet. With ThunderClan still missing and the night early, Birchstar felt like she would have time to speak with Redstripe before everything began.

As always, the ShadowClan cats were making their dramatic entrance. Nightstar leading his cats through the darkest parts of Four Trees. The shadows masking their entrance and scents as it would in their own territory. Nightstar lead his cat until they came to the dip in the ground. His thick and glossy black pelt gleaming in the full moon's luminous light. His green eyes clear with pride and faint distaste as he peered down at the cats already seated. WindClan. Just the cats he didn't want to see. But it was going to happen sooner or later, the time when he would have to confront Birchstar and her stupid decisions. To think she came to me, begging for peace once upon a time. There was and never would be any peace between the cats of the shadows and the moorlands. Even a kit was smart enough to see that. With a flick of his half-tail, Nightstar lead his cats down the slope and into the clearing of four trees.
Almost instantly hisses and growls came from the cats of WindClan. But the black time marched on with his head held high, his deputy, Redstripe, trotting behind him with the same pride and fearlessness. ShadowClan cats did not start arguments at gatherings, they were too mature. Or at least they'd better be.
Despite the mask he'd put on, Redstripe's amber eyes ricocheted from cat to cat as Nightstar lead the way to the Great Rock, looking for Birchstar. Surely she was here somewhere. He was itching to find out how things were going for her in WindClan. Though by the looks of it, not very well. Maybe its just now. Sooner or later things will be back to normal, just like kithood.
There. The pale brown tabby stood, looking through the crowd. Redstripe couldn't help but stare for a moment. All until one of his clanmates shoved into his side. The peaceful moment was ruined and the russet colored tabby looked away from Birchstar, down to Autumnbreeze. "What're you staring at?" She asked with a chuckle, following his gaze. "Anyone would think you'd seen a ghost."
"No. I- just wondered how things have been going for Oakfoot. Last gathering he told me his mate was expecting." He lied, with a reassuring smile. Brushing his tail along her side, "But I've got to go. I'll see you later." Without looking back, Redstripe trotted through the crowd, trying his best to get to Birchstar without getting caught by his clanmates, or hers.

Amber eyes narrowed sharply when Birchstar heard hisses coming from where her Clan had settled. She shot harsh glares at her Clanmates, silently telling them to stop. This was a gathering, peace was supposed to be held.
Birchstar had not brought Eaglefoot with her for this gathering. Instead, she had kept the she-cat at camp in hopes of keeping some tension at the gathering down. Antwing was also at camp, but Birchstar had left a few other cats that were actually on her side at camp as well. Hickoryburn was one of those cats, but enough of that. She had brought enough Clanmates here with her to not cause any worry from the other Clans.
Having hushed her Clan, Birchstar scanned the area as ShadowClan pooled in and began mingling with others. She ignored cats that weren't obviously the one she was looking for. Where is he? She thought with some anxiety pulsing through her. Surely he had come along, he was deputy after all. Deputies always attended gatherings.
There. There he was.
The WindClan leader, knowing she couldn't be caught trying to mingle with Redstripe, attempted to get his attention by flicking her tail subtly in his direction. There was still plenty of time to speak with him before the gathering was to start, and she had quite a bit to tell him, some of her news not the best. The she-cat looked away as she pushed those thoughts aside for now. She had to not make it obvious that she was searching for the ShadowClan deputy, especially when Autumnbreeze had been near Redstripe moments before.

When he was close enough, Redstripe tried his best not to look at Birchstar. Keeping a blank expression since he didn't want anyone to take his chat with the WindClan leader the wrong way. "Birchstar. Its good to see you again." He began in a cool and calmly manner, the enjoyable memories of their walk to the ShadowClan border coming back to him. He could feel the eyes of a few cats glaring at them, but he didn't care. At this moment, all he cared about was Birchstar and how things were going for her. Hopefully better. But then again, what would happen if things were only getting worse in WindClan? "So... how are you? I-I mean- in WindClan I mean." Talking to her was so much easier when they were alone, not under the watchful glares of everyone else. Then he could freely ask her anything he wanted without having to sugar code what he wanted to say.
Nightstar sat motionlessly atop the Great Rock. ThunderClan had finally arrived. How can cats so close to four trees arrive so late? It just didn't make any since. But now that everyone was here... "Let the gathering begin!" The black tomcat watched as the cats below him scrambled to take their places. Deputies sitting beneath the rock and the medicine cats not too far away. And where was Birchstar? Surely she'd been leader long enough to figure out leader's stood on the great rock. Not below it.

As Redstripe came forward, Birchstar dipped her head in a diplomatic gesture. This was a gathering. Cats were watching from every Clan, especially her own Clan and Redstripe’s. This wasn’t like the other day when they were alone on the moor. Cats were around every corner here. They had to be careful about how they acted around one another. Birchstar felt a surge of anxiety run through her and dry out her throat. How was she? How was WindClan? Her amber eyes looked around to make sure no other cat was within earshot. She parted her maw to speak. ”WindClan is...it’s…” She never got what she wanted to say out before a yowl to signal the start of the gathering rang out. Birchstar flattened her ears for a moment. She looked at Redstripe. A concerned look flashed through her amber eyes. ’Later,’ she seemed to silently say.
The pale tabby couldn’t stay any longer. She reluctantly looked away from Redstripe and hared off to the Great Rock. Soon enough she was perched on the boulder, silently taking her seat and waiting for who was to speak about their Clan first.

Redstripe gave a frustrated lash of his tail as the gathering begun and Birchstar vanished. Will I ever get the information I want? Probably not. Perhaps this was StarClan's way of telling him that he and Birchstar shouldn't be so concerned about one another. A sign that he shouldn't be thinking about her during patrols or be so excited to see her again at gathering. They could never, truly, be friends anyways. Not in the position they were in in both of their Clans. Heaving a sigh, Redstripe trotted over to the spot where the deputies of every Clan sat at every gathering. He turned his attention up onto the leaders. Amber eyes locking onto Birchstar for a brief moment before forcing himself to look at the RiverClan leader, Clearstar. Talk of twolegs on their territory and the birthing of kits. Of course he'd know that. Oakfoot wouldn't shut up about his new litter. Surely being a father wasn't that exciting that you had to talk about it every few seconds? Speaking of the RiverClan deputy, the light brown tabby puffed out his chest in pride at the announcement of his new litter.
Soon ThunderClan had shared there news and Birchstar and Nightstar were left. Redstripe could see from the look on his leader's face, Nightstar was about to make an announcement. One that WindClan wouldn't be happy with. "Birchstar. I'm sure you have news, or lies, to tell everyone. You seem to be skilled in that area. Bribing." Nightstar cool voice sounded, sending green daggers over to the WindClan leader. Despite the fact that this was a truce, there was no rule regarding him not having a little fun with his prey before pouncing. She may have not been as fun to play with as Cloudstar was, but there wasn't a point in not trying. Confused murmurs began from the cats of RiverClan and ThunderClan. Of course they wouldn't know what was truly going on between the Clans of the moors and the shadows. RiverClan are too busy fattening themselves and ThunderClan have there nose in too deep into the warrior code. It was pathetic really. But at least their not like those moorland runners-rats more like it. Nightstar signaled with his tail for silence. Turning all of his attention onto Birchstar. "Go on now. You have everyone so intrigued."

For a second Birchstar couldn't help but feel frustration toward Nightstar. She felt as if he had intentionally started the gathering to keep her from speaking with Redstripe; she had important news to tell him, something that left her feeling uneasy. It had left all of WindClan uneasy and all the more bitter toward ShadowClan, another reason as to why Birchstar had left many of her more temperamental cats - Eaglefoot, Antwing - at camp. If she had brought those cats along then a fight would have more than likely happened. Luckily the WindClan leader was able to swallow down her frustration as RiverClan and ThunderClan shared their news. New kits, new warriors, twolegs, and so on. The usual news was being shared between those two Clans. Birchstar could only wonder what Nightstar had to say.
After Volestar, ThunderClan's leader, had finished giving news of her Clan, which had consisted of well hunting and the naming of new apprentices, Nightstar spoke up. Hearing her name, Birchstar looked over at the black tomcat, ears flattening ever so slightly when he began to speak his opinion. The tabby knew better than to let him get to her. That was what he wanted, for her to react feverishly to his words. But she was better than that, she had to be. "What exactly would you like for me to say?" She questioned coolly. Her amber eyes were drawn to Nightstar. "None of what I have to say are lies or bribes." Birchstar glanced away from the ShadowClan leader and swept her gaze curiously across the area. Many cats were looking either directly at her or Nightstar; she spotted a group of apprentices whispering to one another, a couple taking some frightened glances up at the two leaders. Do they think we're going to break the truce? Birchstar wondered to herself. She shook the thought away, drawing in a breath before continuing. "Prey has been running well. We have a new apprentice here with us tonight. Lionpaw," she mewed, eyes training on the golden tabby tom. Instead of looking proud and eager to please the crowd like a typical apprentice, he seemed mellow and timid. It was the opposite of how Lionpaw really was. It was obvious he had something dark troubling him, and Birchstar knew what it was, but she wasn't going to bring that up at the gathering.
After a moment of allowing the gathered cats to congratulate Lionpaw, Birchstar glanced back to Nightstar. It was a look that suggested two different things - what did he have to say, and did he want to try and ruffle her fur anymore than he already had tried?

When Birchstar was finished, Nightstar rose to his paws. An icy silence scorched over the clearing as the dark-furred warrior made his way to the center of the great rock. Green eyes traveling over the assembled cats, finally landing on his fellow leaders. "Just a few days ago, Birchstar came to ShadowClan's camp. She begged for peace between our Clans, but it was all a trap." Nightstar was exaggerating, but RiverClan and ThunderClan didn't need to know the whole story and every detail. "I accepted her offer. And just within a day or two, her warriors were willingly hunting on our territory, as if we were the jolliest of friends. And they had the audacity to attack us on our own land!" Shocked gasps came from the cats beneath him. Nightstar gave a distressed shake of his head, looking up at the sky. "I'd never think power could go to a cat's head so quickly. But, as always, my warriors put those moorland rodents back in their place. But here-" He paused, beginning to pace. Glaring at the assembled WindClan cats with disgust. "Here is a clear example that these pitiful, warriors are not to be trusted. There was hunger in their eyes when they attacked us. Some of my warriors are still confined to Morningdusk's den. If I were you-" He looked over at Clearstar and Volestar, "I would make sure I don't let them get close to your warriors. One minute their your allies, the next, their challenging you on your own territory." Nightstar then turned back to Birchstar, a sly grin crawling over his black-furred face for a brief moment, "And to think you ever wanted peace. For all I know, you and your lousy warriors could be plotting to take over the whole forest. Just as the elder's tales state on the warrior, Tigerstar."
Redstripe was truly and completely horrified at what Nightstar had to say. None of that was true! He didn't agree to Birchstar's request, he didn't even give her a proper answer! And his warriors being confined to the medicine cat's den? WindClan had hardly got a good blow on their warriors after the beating they'd received. How could Nightstar say things like this? I thought he said he was tired of the drama? Perhaps the tom was lying. Or maybe the fight with WindClan stirred something up inside him that gave him the fire to start this all over again now that Cloudstar was gone. And Birchstar? What would she have to say about this. The russet colored deputy was itching to beg his leader to stop. But that would be a sign of weakness to his Clan and himself. Besides, he'd get in trouble if he willingly told everyone that his leader was lying. Hesitantly, he turned his amber gaze to Birchstar. It was a pleading and calm look. A look that told her to keep her cool. It would only come off as a sign of weakness if she reacted to Nightstar's accusing words.

What was Nightstar going to say now? Birchstar felt her stomach clench and her throat tighten. Something told her that what the black tomcat had to say wasn't going to be good. The moment he began to talk she nodded. So far he was speaking the truth. She had come to him asking for peace, but then his words became skewed. His information was wrong. She shook her head. "A trap? You didn't give me an answer, Nightstar. When I asked for peace, there was nothing along the lines of a 'yes' or 'no'." What sort of game was he trying to play here? Birchstar flattened her ears, her fur instinctively rising along her spine. "I will be honest, some of my warriors did attack your own cats on your land. They were foolish to do as much, but they did that on their own accord." Birchstar felt her tail tail-tip begin to twitch. Keep calm, Birchstar. This is a gathering. StarClan does not want a fight here, no cat does. Shakily she drew in a deep breath. How dare he compare her to the tyrant that was Tigerstar. She was nothing like that cat. The stories she had heard of him... She was not him. She never would be; she was satisfied with her moor. But while she was able to keep her temper at bay, some of her warriors had other things to say.
"It's you who are following in Tigerstar's pawsteps!" The voice belonged to a young tom.
A she-cat's voice piped up. "You're the one who wants war! Birchstar asked for peace and didn't get anything in return!"
Other mumblings and yowls could be heard. Finally Birchstar just shot a glare toward her Clanmates and then back at Nightstar. "What is happening between our Clans does not concern RiverClan or ThunderClan. Bringing this up at the gathering was a low move, Nightstar. If you want to speak of this, do not bring it up here. This is between you and me, Nightstar, not Clearstar and Volestar as well." As she spoke she couldn't help but glance at Redstripe for a moment. Birchstar noticed his cool gaze and how he was silently telling her to stay calm. She still felt her fur bristling and her ears flattening against her cranium, but surely she had been level-headed enough. This drama wasn't necessary at this gathering, or at any gathering, this was drama that should be taken care of in private, didn't Nightstar understand that?
