[ 𝓅𝑒𝒶𝒸𝒽 ;; ahh it's fine <3 I'm sorry to hear you haven't felt well :c ]
[ Sharpstar | Leader ] Sharpstar let his gaze flicker to Speckledpaw for a moment, curious at her nervousness. "That's a good question, I'm glad you asked. When we are downwind we are moving with the wind at our backs, guiding us forward. When we are upwind it is the opposite, we will feel the wind in our face. When hunting it is important to be downwind of our prey so that we can find it before it finds us."

You were right about being downwind for hunting, but the way you explained it was off. Downwind is when the wind is blowing towards your face. For hunting, you obviously want to be facing your prey. Being downwind, causes the scent to go towards you. Being upwind causing the scent to go forward, towards the prey)

Speckledpaw nodded. "That makes a lot more sense. Thank you Sharpstar!" She said, a grin now on her face.

((That sounds good to me!))
Winterheart emerged from a nearby bush as well, his blue eyes gleaming as he held up a squirrel of his own with pride. He set it down and began to speak, but was cut of by a high pitched howl. His black fur stood on end, and he tried desperately to locate the source of the threat. "Mouse-dung. This isn't good."

(( Hello all :3 ))
Mintpaw looks at the other apprentice as if considering saying something for a moment before shrugging, "Maybe" she meowed in response but she kind of doubted it. The grey she-cat lifts her nose up hoping to catch the scent of some decent sized prey but the smell of smoke made it hard. Her tail tip twitched in silent frustration at the matter and she semi wondered if the deputy might let her hunt alone for a little while.

[ Foxlight | Deputy ] Foxlight glanced around the ancient larch with mild irritation, the smoke would make this much more difficult for them. She was more or less used to it, but she was certain it would be hard for the apprentices to adjust to. "Since there is smoke out, we can't exactly rely on our sense of smell as much, nor our sight as it will be hard to see any prey before we are on top of them. How would you both go about this problem?" Foxlight asked. She didn't want to hand the apprentices the answer, but she did want to see them problem solve a bit.
[ Creekheart | Warrior ] Creekheart jumped slightly at the sound of a howl. His eyes narrowed as he tried to peer through the smoke that surrounded them. "That sounds like trouble," Creekheart said lowly. He swiftly burried his squirrel, not wanting to abandon it for any other predator. "We should check that out, right?" Creekheart asked anxiously. He wasn't exactly one to search for a fight, but he didn't want to leave his clan at risk either.

[ Foxlight | Deputy ] Foxlight noticed Thymepaw had become quiet and was eased by this. Thymepaw was a great apprentice, but could have a short temper at times. Foxlight was just happy that Thymepaw knew when to quit and didn't pursue the topic any further, she was proud of her for this. She remembered when she was younger Thymepaw had a harder time with this. Foxlight looked down at Mintpaw then back to Yarrowfur. "If everyone's ready, we should head out soon. Thymepaw, where do you think we should hunt today?" Foxlight didn't usually ask apprentices where they wanted to hunt, but she figured today was a special day.
[ Kestralpaw | Apprentice ] Kestralpaw hopped back as Rainpaw followed his lead and said, "You're it!" He darted away, not quite paying attention to where he was running. Kestralpaw also hadn't thought out how dull it would be to play tag with only two apprentices, but as he ran he figured they could add a twist to it to make it more fun.so sorry! internet was down for a couple of days, stupid winter...) Rainpaw narrowed her eyes slightly, chasing after her fellow apprentice, shouting, "I'm gonna get you!!" ((I don't know how to make the post longer))

Mintpaw considered the question, scenting was one of the best ways to locate prey. But if you didn't have smell and you didn't have sight what was left? "Sound- we have to listen for the prey" Mintpaw meowed fairly confident in her answer. If she was wrong then she had no idea what the correct response might be but it was worth a try.

Kestralpaw bounded past the freshkill pile, doing is best to evade Rainpaw. He was so focused on their little game that he didn't watch where he was going and immediately hit a rock which knocked him over. Kestralpaw shook his head, surprised by the sudden halt to his escape. "When did that get there?" Kestralpaw asked blearily.
Foxlight nodded, satisfied with their answer. "Yes, that's the best way to do it. Another way would be to try and feel the vibrations from their steps, but that usually only works with squirrels. When you're hunting in the smoke you have to be as silent as possible, remember that our prey has also limited sight and scent, they will be relying just as heavily on sound." Foxlight paused, and glanced around them. "I will let the both you hunt on your own, but I will be keeping an eye on the both of you to see how you're doing."

Mintpaw gave Thymepaw a grateful look as she realised the older apprentice was trying to support her despite their snappy comments at each other earlier. The grey she-cat nodded her head kneading the ground, eager to be off some of her usual energy returning. "Where did you want to hunt?" Mintpaw asked Thymepaw trying to think of the best spot. Somewhere away from the thickest parts of smoke would be good, but also a place frequented enough by prey.

"Kestralpaw! Are you okay?" Rainpaw asked him, worriedly checking him over. He didn't seem too injured on the outside, but the medicine cat should probably check him over, she thought.

Winterheart buried his squirrel and nodded to the other warrior. "Let's go," He mewed decidedly, his fur fluffing up as he padded towards the high pitched yipping. He only hoped that his strength was enough to drive whatever it was off. It was clear that they were padding into a fight.

Good news everyone! I'll be getting the last of my surgery on Friday. The bad news being, I still won't be able to role play until Sunday. I think your doing a terrific job at role playing Sharpstar, Lordclover. But I understand it's a bit of a burden. Anyways, this role play will be paused until Saturday. ]
