A short, muscular tom cat with well groomed grayish brown fur and dull amber eyes was moving through StarClan at a semi-fast pace, one he could keep up for a long time. He didn't plan on stopping for a while, but that was soon to change.

With a muted BOOM, like an explosion a million miles off, a small light, like a falling star, appeared in the sky. It started to fall towards the ground, burning, making a horrible, inhuman screeching sound as it streaked across the sky.

The cat looked up, eyes narrowed. He flattened to the ground like a badger and crawled forward to investigate, but staying hidden.

The light hit the ground about a mile off with a massive explosion that sent shockwaves down the moor, vibrating the ground by his paws. A smoke column built at the site of impact, which was incredible in and of itself because fire has never been seen in StarClan. Ever.

The cat broke into a run, muscular body sliding easily over the moor. It was obvious that he'd been there a long time. He skidded to a halt, near enough to see what was happening but also far enough to stay hidden.

There, lying in a patch of scorched dirt, a pure white cat lay sprawled on the ground. The grass all around her was flattened and burned, and still on fire in come places.

The tom narrowed his dull eyes. The white cat seemed stunned for now. It might be safest just to slit their throat and be done with it. He weighed the options carefully, but in the end decided that it was best to wait and see if they had friends who were coming. In that note, he stayed silent and hidden.

The cat stirred weakly, sheathing and unsheathing her long claws, then slowly staggered to her feet. Suddenly she whipped her head around to stare at him, pupils glowing a bright, unnatural white-blue. Lightning struck, and for just a moment, you could almost see a pair of wings unfurling on her back, but they were gone so quick there was no way to be sure.

He couldn't help it; his eyes slitted and narrowed against the light, his ears went back and his teeth showed as he pulled back his lips in a silent hiss. It was only for an instant, but it was the instant her wings became visible. As soon as the wings were gone, he erased all traces of the reaction from his face and began to back away slowly.

The cat's eyes returned mostly to normal - though they were still an almost unnatural shade of blue. "No - wait!" she said softly, taking a step towards him.

He paused, claws digging into the misty ground. He probably should have just killed her while he could, now he would pay for his slowness, his weakness. She was going to kill him.

"I won't hurt you." said the cat, as if she read his mind. Her voice was very soft, gentle, and with a slight monotone to it. "Don't be afraid." She stood very still, awaiting his reaction.

He tried not to look at her, or believe her. Okay, maybe she wouldn't hurt him at the moment, but that just meant she wanted something. He looked at the ground, knowing he couldn't flee. "What do you want?" He asked in a deep, broken voice.

The cat looked around, taking in her surroundings for the first time. "Is this...is this StarClan?" she asked hesitantly.

"Yes." It was better to keep his answers short. He shook his head slowly, closing his eyes. "It's overrated by the way."

The cat didn't seem to notice his comment. She sat down roughly, trying to steady her breathing. She frowned down at her paws, shaking her head and looking distinctly confused.

"What is it?" He asked, before biting his tongue. She looked weak, he might be able to escape. But something held him back. Most likely it was curiosity.

The cat squeezed her eyes shut for a moment, then stood up again. "Do you have a camp? A family?" she asked.

The cat's face went blank. "Who's asking?" He asked in a cold, emotionless tone.

The cat blinked. "I don't belong here...I need a starting point." she said simply. Seeing his protectiveness, she kept going. "If I fell, I wasn't the only one. There are far worse things than me out there now."

"Yeah?" His grayish ear twitched, but his eyes remained cold. "You say you fell. What do you mean by that?"

The cat hesitated before replying. "Do you believe in monsters?" she asked at last.

"Yeah." He answered instantly, twitching his tail impatiently. "I've seen them. You really are new here, aren't you?" He sat up, wrapping his tail protectively around his brown paws.

"What's your name?" asked the cat. "I am called Hasdiel."

"Stop switching subjects." He spoke rudely, ears flattening again. "What happened? What are you, and what did you mean by fall? And what other things are coming?" Once started, the flow of questions wouldn't stop until he bit his tongue for the second time, shutting himself up.

"This is StarClan. For cats who have died." said Hasdiel, flicking her ears. "I am not dead, or alive. I am not even feline, really. I should be in my own realm, but now I'm trapped here." She looked around nervously. "We need to leave. Something dark is coming."

"No kidding." He muttered under his breath, standing slowly. "Well, thanks for the tip. Some free advice, avoid the locals." He turned and ran for it, head and tail close to the ground.

"No - please - " Hasdiel was cut off with a bloodcurdling shriek as a brown tabby cat leapt out of the bushes and attacked her, pinning her to the ground with unnatural viciousness.

He flattened himself to the ground, screwing his eyes tight shut. The new cats were often the ones with the most to fear, since they didn't know what they were up against. It would be the easiest thing in the world to just keep going, and he couldn't pretend it was the first time. He glanced over his shoulder, against his best instincts, to see if she was still alive.
