"I thought maybe you'd know where they -"
Sadie shut her mouth. Jaypaw, excitable as ever, bounded ahead without bothering to wait for an answer. Stifling a - shockingly fond, she realized - sigh, she bonded after her at as swift of a pace she could manage. She made it to what appeared to be the entrance of some kind of clearing and found Jaypaw waiting for her, eagerness radiating from every hair on her pelt.
Sadie gazed beyond her, taking in signs of movement - and a lot of it. The scent of cat hear was more overwhelming than she had ever found it, so many different strains blended together into one massive, daunting wave. The breeze carried voices to her ears, wordless things that rose and fell, rose and fell. Her stomach twisted itself into knots.
She turned her voice to steel, determined not to let an ounce of her mounting terror reveal itself. "Is this it?" she asked, swallowing. "Your... home?"

Jaypaw nodded, bounding further into camp. "Yes! Come on! I'm gonna bring you straight to Duskstar so you can see how we live in person. Hey, Duskstar!" she called. "I found someone who needs to meet you!" ( Sanders )

(DAPPLESTORM YOU ARE SO)
Pidgeonwing was happy to be praised. Not many cats in the Clan praised him often. Except for Duskstar, of course. But Duskstar actually liked him. It was nice to have another cat being nice. He sat up a bit straighter and let himself enjoy the moment. "I learned about mice from an older cat I lived with," he explained. "I used to hunt them all the time before I came here. They lived everywhere. My people were very proud of me. The ones out here are a little harder to catch but they're still less sharp right after all the snow is gone." He pawed the mouse a little bit a thoughtful look on his face. "I see why you guys say mouse-brain."
He glanced around the forest. It seems a lot quieter around the place they were currently occupying. "Well, we probably scared off everything else in this area. Want to head back to camp?"

Duskstar exited his den, stretching a bit as he did. He had been enjoying a midday nap, but a leader never really did get a moment of rest, did he? He walked over to the cat who had called for him and quickly tried to remember who was this apprentice was. "Ah, Jaypaw. What are you saying?"

(Why does Dapplestorm have zero self-awareness, honestly. Why is he like that.)
"We might as well," Dapplestorm agreed, huffing. "At least we aren't coming back with empty paws. I'm sure Duskstar will be happy there's something for the fresh-kill pile."
With that, he turned and began the long walk back to camp. He kept his nose in the air, hoping to detect the scent of prey nearby, but just as he expected, the combination of his conversation with Pidgeonwing and his utter failure with the robin earlier had sent every animal in the area scattering. He figured he might as well keep talking, if there was nothing left to spook, anyway. It was only the polite thing to do.
"Did your twolegs really feed you mush?" he blurted out. "Wouldn't you have rather had fresh prey?"
So much for polite, you mouse-brain, he thought. There was a reason he didn't often approach his clanmates, and he had to remember that it was a good one.

(Mine are all busy for a while, sorry.)
Sadie gazed blankly at the large tomcat before her. His stance exuded a casual, confident sort of power; his leisurely time suggested he didn't expect to come into contact with a newcomer today. Around her, meanwhile, she could feel eyes drawn to her prone form, a thousand voices chatting around her. She shrank back. She had never been exposed to so many cats at once, all of them so fierce and battle-hardened, each of them capable of tearing her throat out with their bare teeth.
If they attacked, she kept thinking, she would have nowhere to run and nowhere to hide. In the forest, nobody was watching over her.
Her mouth fell open, but no sound came out.

Jaypaw barely noticed Sadie's discomfort and looked up at Duskstar. "This is Sadie! She's a kittypet, but her Twolegs disappeared and she got lost. Then I found her! She thinks we don't eat prey. Isn't that funny?"

Pidgeonwing started laughing so hard he dropped the mouse from his mouth. He nearly fell off his feet, but leaned against Dapplestorm for some support. It took him several moments to regain his composure and be able to stand solidly on his feet once more.
He cleared his throat and let out a few more chuckles. "Wow, um... no. I mean, yes they did sometimes. But sometimes it wasn't that bad. And fresh prey is great. But my people would let me eat some of their food sometimes. It was always delicious." He purred from the memory of the warm meals he would get from his people. Sometimes they would let him eat something they called chicken. That was one of his favorite meals they had.

Duskstar looked at Sadie. He deemed her not a threat and she seemed to be very uncomfortable at the moment. He nodded at Jaypaw and said softly, "Yeah that is quite funny. You did a very good job bringing her back here safe and sound." He looked at Sadie. "Would you like to talk out of the view of every cat in the Clan?"

Dapplestorm felt his fur grow hot and uncomfortable. Shuffling his paws and ducking his head, he mumbled, "Sorry, that was probably a mousebrained question. I don't really know anything about kittypet life."
His mother had been a kittypet, once, before she'd run away to find PrideClan. He should have paid more attention to her stories while he'd still had her, he knew now, but back then, it had seemed so ridiculous compared to his world, so soft. The life of a warrior had been the only thing that interested him, and he would have rather pestered the elders for battle stories than heard her speak of scratches behind her ears and a collar around her neck.
He'd been three moons old when she'd had an unexpected bout with greencough that cut her life short before she'd even grown a single gray hair on her pelt. She had been beautiful - bright green eyes, calico fur, the kind of cat that seemed to live forever. It had been a long time since anyone loved him like she had; Leafsplash adored him, sure, but he was her protector, and she was his... pesterer. It was hardly like having someone to soothe him to sleep at night.
He coughed. Pidgeonwing didn't need to know about his age-old grief. "I really didn't mean to offend you," he added sheepishly.

Jaypaw brightened at the compliment and turned to Sadie. "You'll be okay with Duskstar! I'm gonna go look for my mentor now." She walked away from the two cats and started looking around camp.
(...she still doesn't have a mentor D: )

When Sadie had first arrived at her twolegs' home, it had nearly driven her wild - the unfamiliar scent, the open hallways, the booming voices shouting out syllables her ears couldn't decipher. The loneliness, even if she tried to forget that now. She had wailed all night, dodging gentle hands and hiding under furniture until a tiny semblance of the feeling of control returned to her.
That was how she felt now - floundering and desperate, like she was heartbeats from suffocating.
Still, she could hardly show these brave wildcats that side of her, the meek kit who couldn't survive an ounce of adversity. She fluffed her pelt up, hoping to look bigger, stronger.
"Something about love," Sadie supplied, tone forcibly flippant. "Apparently."
Watching the casual affection of the cats around her from the corner of her eye, she was beginning to wonder if she even knew the meaning of the word. It wasn't fair to her owners, no, but it was where her mind carried her, and she felt herself sinking into a pit of doubt.

Pidgeonwing bumped his shoulder against Dapplestorm's in a friendly way. He didn't mean to make Dapplestorm feel bad, but he couldn't help that he found the question absolutely silly. Wild cats sure do have weird ideals.
"You didn't offend me. I can tell you all you want to know. It just seemed like a... mousebrained question. And I found it rather funny. It's going to take a lot more than that to offend me. There were cats who would yell insults at me all the time, where I used to live."
--
Duskstar nodded slightly. He was curious as to what Jaypaw had put into this cat's head about this Clan. "Ah yes. There's lots of love to go around here. If you would be so kind as to follow me, I'll explain to you the life we live here." He climbed to his feet and started to walk towards his den. He flicked his tail as a gesture for Sadie to follow.

(THESE TWO KILL ME.)
That last part made his heart clench. He'd grown up with stories like those, but only stories, absurd cautionary tales that taught him to be thankful of PrideClan's values. As a kit, he had even wondered if they were too bizarre to be true, so exaggerated that the elders surely had to have made them up to keep him in line. Don't complain. Do you know what the rouges I grew up with would have said about that? It had all been too far away to touch him.
He knew better, now.
"That's ridiculous," he meowed, voice uncharacteristically tender around the edges. "It would take a real mousebrain to think there's anything wrong with you." He paused for a moment before adding, in a darker tone, "Those cats are lucky they never met me."

(Asskgjj I didn't see the Duskstar part, sorry.)
Sadie had no choice but to pad after him, trailing him into the tiny den. She shivered; she'd never been one for claustrophobia, but there was something daunting about being alone in such a small place with such a powerful cat. Who would come to her aid if something happened?
"Do you all really live out in the open?" she meowed, an anxious note entering her voice. "Don't you get cold at night? Where do you all go when it rains?"
To her, rain meant perching by her twolegs' windows and watching droplets collect on the smooth surface, letting the earthy scent of it hit her from afar. It meant her twolegs using the box on the wall to warm their den. It meant sleeping on the rug in the room with the giant talking box, the flashing colors illuminating her pelt a thousand different colors, all the murmuring voices lulling her to sleep.
That safety, she knew, was never coming back, but it didn't mean she wanted to be so cold.

Vixenfrost decided to go out hunting though she didn't want to go alone. She wanders over to the apprentices den and calls out to them. She would have liked a warrior but it seemed everyone was busy. Plus she might teach one of the apprentices a thing or two.

Pidgeonwing laughed again, a little tamer this time. "You're not that scary, Dapplestorm," he chuckled. "You're just a big pushover under all that puffed out fur. Although, I will say that it would have been nice to have you around."
And he meant that. Dapplestorm really didn't seem all that threatening, at least to him. He found Dapplestorm to be very kind. Perhaps other cats saw his quietness as unfriendly but Pidgeonwing saw it more as a pensiveness. A quiet watching and thinking from a smart cat. Pidgeonwing knew, though, that in a real fight Dapplestorm would become what he truly was. A cat trained to fight. Any of the cats that yelled horrible things at him wouldn't last two seconds in a fight with Dapplestorm. So if it had come to a fight, Dapplestorm could've taken any of them down.
--
Duskstar was slightly overwhelmed by all the questions being fired at him. She was like a newly born kit that had just opened its eyes and ears. All questions. What's this? What's that? Who are they?
"Slow down there," he meowed calmly. He needed to stay level with her. He could already tell she was horribly uncomfortable being there and he didn't want to scare her off. He also wanted to make her feel welcome and assure her he was friendly. "Please take a seat. Make yourself comfortable. And we should properly introduce ourselves. I'm Duskstar, leader of PrideClan. And you are?"
