Lily's Petal nodded, scenting the air. She breathed in the fresh salty scents, her strong nose searching through the trees to pinpoint the warm body of a mouse.

"Keep going!" Crow's Wing mewed, resisting the great urge to go and nudge his apprentice forward. No. This is his battle to fight. I shall not interfere. It is only him and the waves.

"You can hunt alone, can't you, Lily's Petal?" Brindlestar asked. The she-cat had now begun to feel tired, but tried her best to keep it out of her voice. In a softer voice she added, "I believe in you."

Lily's Petal hesitated, but she gave a brave nod, hoping she could catch something and not make a fool of herself. Her eyes narrowed in determination and she stalked away through the underbrush, her tail tip flicking just slightly.

Brindlestar watched as her apprentice crept away, smiling inside. Let's see what she catches. Will she be a skilled hunter? This thought caused a small bit of regret. What if she would've made a better warrior than medicine apprentice?

Pinpointing where it was, Lily's Petal leaped blindly into the underbush. "Mouse dung!" she spat as the creature skittered away.

"You can do it," Brindlestar mewed gently. She didn't want her apprentice to give up - not so easily. "Next time, make sure to be as silent as the shadows. You can learn from your mistakes, as that's the reason why we make them - to learn. Mistakes are to learn." This was something that the tabby had gone by, even when she was just Brindle Fern - a mere kit. It had been something her mother meowed often.

Ink Splash groaned but turned to paddle into the water. What was he suppose to do? Swim until he was too tired? The young tom tried not to think about it. His ears flicked to lay against his head as his body sank so only his head was up. He whimpered.

"Go!" Crow's Wing yowled. His voice had become harder now, as a small push of anger kicked in. "No apprentice of mine will not be able to swim such a short distance! What if you're ordered by Brindlestar to go on some journey? You'll have to swim great distances!" Waves threatened to make their way into the tom's mouth, but he took no notice of them, opening his mouth to speak again. "If you dare stop, you'll never hear the end of it!"

If you really want, a 1x1 rp sounds nice and interesting. I don't want to take you away from here or something. )
Ink Splash kicked, now fueled by his mentor's words. He did want to go on journeys and see the world. It sounded odd and kit-ish when he thought about it but he wanted to become one of this heroes in the elder's tales. he wanted to save the clan from something. He wanted the clan to be proud of him. And, if he would admit it, he especially wanted his brother to be proud of him. The apprentice paddled into the ocean, forgetting about the whole having to get back situation that might arise from going too far.

She began padding back through the undergrowth, searching for more prey. She made sure to keep her paws light and her tail unmoving, which made her want to fall over.

zero Nope, you wouldn't be taking me away at all!)) "Remember to stay on course," Crow's Wing meowed, realizing that Ink Splash had started to veer away from Ritual Island. "And, don't get over excited. This can cause for bad things, especially in the ocean." Even Crow's Wing shuddered at the thought of the creatures that were said to roam the waters - big things, things that could eat multiple cats whole if it so pleased.

Brindlestar stayed silent, not wanting to scare off any potential prey. The she-cat had had only warrior apprentices, and the fact scared her. What if she ended up teaching Lily's Petal too many things about regular warrior duties and not enough about being the Tribe's medic apprentice? Brindlestar knew the herbs like the back of her paw, yet she wasn't so sure about teaching a cat younger than herself. This thought had never occurred to the she-cat, but she pushed it away. Why am I thinking about this now? No matter what, it is still one of Lily Petal's duties to hunt for the Tribe. And anyway, if I'm going to worry, I'll do it later. The she-cat allowed herself to stare once again at her apprentice and how she moved.

Ink Splash nodded and started to swim back to the island. He cursed the gods as his legs started to feel more like anchors. They would start to weigh him down rather than help.

Crow's Wing kept swimming, yet stopped when he thought he spotted movement beneath the water. His paws moved back and forth, and he made sure to keep his head up. When he no longer saw movement, he began to swim again. It was probably just my imagination. Luna! I'm not a kit! Why do I still think like- His thoughts were interrupted by something brushing his leg. "What is-" Realizing that he was limited on time, Crow's Wing stopped mid sentence. "Swim faster!" He called to Ink Splash. The tom himself began to go faster, and this only quickened when he felt a set of sharp things scrape his leg. He had never felt anything so painful - after all, he had never fought viciously with his Tribemates before. The tom had also never been in a battle before.

Ink Splash yelped at the harsh command from his mentor. He pushed himself to go faster but was clearly not putting his whole body into it. His mentor was usually gruff. He was sure this was just Crow's wing trying to push him more. While he didn't want to displease his mentor, he was so tired. The apprentice's long fur was already weighing him down and his legs were tired. He didn't want to go faster. That all changed when he decided to look over at Crow's wing. He looked over at his mentor to find the black tom's face distorted in pain and red blossoming in the water around him. The apprentice finally grasped the urgency of his mentor and started to swim faster. Being both athletic and unexperienced, the tom floundered more than swum but made ground.
