Lily's Petal's eyes widened in excitement. A medicine cat apprentice! "Of course Brindlestar! I would love-" she calmed down a bit. "I would be honored to! Thank you! Thank you!"

Brindlestar nodded happily. "Well then, it seems that you won't be needing to hunt for a while. Come, let's go to my den. There we can learn about all of the herbs." The leader herself was still a little confused about the many herbs that the Tribe used. Nothing used to grow here. I'm suprised it could grow at all. She had learned about the many boxes of herbs that had floated to the island mysteriously, or so, that was the story. Now, every herb that was once in that box grew on the island. Some called it ignorance that they would think that this could happen just because of four cats. But Brindlestar believed it all the same.

"How many herbs are there? Where did they come from? What can they do? Are they just leaves? When can I practice? Do we get to talk to our ancestors?" Her curiosity took the form of questions, bouncing on her toes in anticipation. She glanced around on the ground, looking for some odd-shaped leaves that might be considered an herb, finding nothing but grass.

Ink Splash blinked. His golden eyes glowed as he scanned the dim den. So Lily's petal is up, he thought before looking towards the entrance. His eyes widened. The sun was shining outside. He was late. The tom scrambled to his paws. Being in his second moon of apprenticeship, he would have thought his body would wake up at dawn. He apprentice quickly padded out of the den. Again, he looked around. This time he was checking to see if either his brother or his mentor was angry looking. His tail twitched. Wave's cry was sure to notice his absence.

"You'll figure everything out soon enough," she meowed. She let out a mmrow of amusement at the site of the medic apprentice searching for herbs. "You won't find them out here. There's a place where they grow, however that's on the Island of Rituals, unfortunately." She looked into Lily's Petal's eyes. "Can you swim without assistance yet?"

"You're late," Crow's Wing mewed irritably, coming towards his apprentice. "That's valuable training time that you've missed, do you realize that?" his voice had now shifted from irritated to a low growl. "Anyways. We're doing battle training today. I assume that you remember at least a little from what we learned last time?" without waiting for a reply he continued. "There are many skills that you have yet to learn, one of which being what we will learn today. You've only been an apprentice for two moons now, but I trust that you will try your very best to exceed my expectations?" this time he stared right at Ink Splash with his great blue eyes, wanting to hear his reply. "Well?"

Inksplash's tail dropped and his ears flicked back. He was caught. He nodded to Crow's Wing's first question. Though, as the tom ask him question after question, he figured he wasn't suppose to answer. Plus, they were all just getting mixed up in his head. It all sounded the same, disappointment and anger. Just nod along, he told himself hoping to cool his mentor's temper. So he nodded to Crow's wing's last question, not meeting the warrior's eyes. Instead, he focused his eyes on the ground.

"You have a mouth for a reason. Use it." Crow's Wing's tail flicked back and forth impatiently. "We will be practicing in the training hollow on the Island of Rituals," Crow's Wing continued. "So, that means that we will be swimming. Have you been practicing?" he ran his tongue over his fur to clean it, even though he knew that he'd get into water anyway.

Ink Splash mentally scolded himself. That wasn't making his grumpy mentor any happier. He forced himself to listen to Crow's Wing before he lost all of what his mentor was talking about. He didn't know where they were going, but he did catch the last part. Ink Splash's mood did not improve. Swimming was terrible for the thin tom. His fur always dragged him down and he couldn't ever paddle hard enough to keep afloat for long. Maybe this time would be different. After all, he had been practicing. He gave a nod before remembering the earlier discussion. "Yes." He said just loud enough for the tom to hear.

Lily's Petal flicked her tail and nodded. "Are we going there today?" she eagerly asked. Lily's Petal would love to start her training right away, especially when it was so important to her Clan. I hope I do a good job. I would hate to mess up and be replaced. Lily's Petal shook her head to erase the thought. After all, Brindlestar has faith in me.

littlesong42Brindlestar nodded. "We might as well, seeing as though you're quite excited." She flicked her tail, ushering the apprentice towards the water's edge. The sea was wide, the water lapping at the land. You've swam this many times before. But now, you're the only big cat around. The thought of being the only one around to save Lily's Petal if something fatal were to happen scared her. It's no time to be worried. She looked at the apprentice. She's ready for this, why aren't I?

zeroCrow's Wing took no visual notice of the tom's slight hesitation, but inside, he noticed it. "Good. We'll get to it right away then." He padded towards the water's edge, looking behind him to see if Ink Splash followed. "You're in first," he mewed. "Just in case anything happens." He planned to watch intently. The tom had many mini assessments, of sorts, before the final one, as to make sure that his apprentices improved. "In. Now." It hadn't been very long at all, but the tom hated waiting around. "Now," he mewed one more time, just to make sure that his point was clear.

Lily's Petal glanced at her mentor, rigid as she saw the waves. She had swam before, but never something this big or harsh. Lily's Petal took a breath and plunged into the water paws first. "It's cold!" she gasped, her paws churning. She could still reach the bottom, but it wouldn't be long until the sand gave way to more water. She took a large breath as a high wave crashed near her jaws, getting a mouthful of saltwater.

"It's okay; just keep going!" Brindlestar mewed. Her own fur was cold, and it was clinging to her body as if it needed to hold on for life. The sand had now given way to area where cats could not touch the bottom no matter how hard they tried. Brindlestar made an attempt to nudge Lily's Petal forward, thinking such a young apprentice would need it, but just sent herself under an upcoming wave. Her head only just popped onto the surface of the water, leaving her gasping for breath. You're the leader, what are you doing? Set an example! With this thought firm in her head, the she-cat swam on, her paws now moving gracefully under the water. She held her head high, checking back occasionally to make sure that the Tribe's new medic apprentice was close behind.

Ink Splash eyed the water. His ears were already back against his head from Crow's wing's insistent commands. He didn't like the water. He much preferred land over water, which clung to his fur and dragged him down. His paws itched just thinking about it. At least, with the sun out, the water should be warm. The apprentice padded forward until the water started to splash against his belly. His tail was hovered over the surface, flicking up when a drops hit it. He looked back at his mentor, waiting for some sort of signal or something. He didn't want to mess this up.

Lily's Petal pushed through the waves with determination. It was her first day and she didn't want to screw up. She took a deep breath and swam harder, her ears back and tail guiding her through the tough currents. She was starting to get a hang of it, paddling strongly after Brindlestar and coming up behind her.

Crow's Wing nodded. "Go." He waited on the land for his apprentice to swim ahead, for he didn't want Ink Splash to get lost in the tides. And so he sat, with the water splashing at his paws, waiting.
(Sorry for the shorter response!)

Brindlestar looked behind herself, surprised to see Lily's Petal right on her tail. A natural born swimmer, I see. The she-cat continued to go through the water, her eyes finally landing on a piece of land. "Just ahead!" she mewed, as water pushed itself into her opened mouth. She spit it out, then proceeded to continue swimming.

Lily's Petal, seeing the land for herself, pushed harder, almost going under again but keeping afloat. As she got closer, she realized her paws were just starting to touch the muddy ground. She shook her head, shaking access water from her fur and ears. "That was tedious," she exclaimed.

"We'll be doing that again later. It's the only way to get back," Brindlestar mewed, shaking her pelt to rid it of the water. She hauled herself onto the island, exhausted. "But before we do anything else, let's hunt." She stared across the wide ocean. "I'm afraid that I won't be able to get back unless I've eaten. The sunset kept me awake."

Sorry for such a long wait. >.< )
Ink Splash took a couple of steps before stopping. The water was already half way up his flank and he started to feel his fur soak up the water. He grimaced. His fur was great for cold night, but for water, it was an anchor. He refused to look back at his mentor. He would swim. The tom took a couple more steps before starting to paddle. He kicked and kicked, trying to break through the gentle waves. His breath were hard and shallow. Now he looked back as he tried to turn around.
