Nodding, she began to trot alongside the deputy and she-cat. Lionsky whiskers twitched in agreement. "Indeed, much of the smaller prey has started to huddle up and away now," Pausing, she stretched her back and forelegs which were uncomfortably stiff. Quickening her pace, she continued. "Speaking of prey, I could use your help. There's a tricky pheasant right on the northwest border but I don't think I can catch it alone. It'll be a challenge, definitely. I haven't met a pheasant that wasn't fast enough to escape even the quickest cat's grasp!" She purred, a hint of mischief in her tone.
Honeybrook sniffed haughtily but didn't reply to the warrior's remark. There was truth in Cavegrowl's statement, he would acknowledge that. Letting his pawsteps quicken, he trotted quickly beside the broad tom surpassing him a bit as they emerged into the thick forest treess.

"Sure, lets get it. and hopefuly a couple of squirrels, they are greater in numbers up that away" Timberfall meowed willing to hunt anything. "Lead the way", the large brown tom mewed letting Lionsky take the lead ready to get the hunt started. He made sure to keep his senses alert just incase they came across anything on the way.

Swallowsong nodded excitedly. She loved chasing down large prey, especially the birds. As the cold breeze flodded the forest, Swallowsong shivered. She hated storms. She quickened her pace and followed the two cats towards the border.
Hareleap nodded, taking in the two toms' conversation. "I hate to think of what is to come. War is not a pretty sight." He mewed quietly, almost to himself. The thick furred tom barely even noticed the cold winds, his thick tawny fur keeping him warm.
Chickadeewing dipped her head respectfully to the cats and then pushed her way in the the nursery gently. "Viperfang? I thought maybe you would be hungry. Here's a vole for you. Congrats on the kits, they are beautiful," She mewed happily, a loving chirp in her tone. She looked at the little bundles of still slick fur, happy to have a new litter of kits in the clan. She dipped her head, letting the little family enjoy their peace and quiet, and turned and swept out of the den, as quickly as possible. As she hit the open air of the camp, she squinted her eyes. She dug her claws in to the ground and looked about, wary of the incoming storm.
Geckoeyes laid as still as the dead. But he was nowhere near dead. As Fallowleaf neared, he had to keep his tail from instinctively twitching. When the she-cat leaned over him to check if he was okay, Geckoeyes popped his head up and yowled at her, tring to surprise her. He then hopped up onto his feet, gracefully. Yes, his body ached a bit from the impact, and yes, his ego was bruised a little from the embarrassing incident, but overall, he was okay. The muscular tom then hopped up on the log he had landed against and looked in to the distance. "There's a storm coming our way. Maybe we should find some prey and head back to camp, he suggested. It looked like it was going to be a nasty one. Geckoeyes looked back and down at his companion with soft, warm eyes.

As they neared the border where Lionsky mentioned the pheasant to be Timberfall sniffed the air and with it blowing towards them he could sure enough catch the scent of not only squirrel but the pheasant as well. "I'll go hunt the squirrel while you two catch that pheasant, or would you like to squirrel hunt instead?", he asked Swallowsong curiously since they were about to split up to hunt. Might as well get all the hunting done in one fell swoop.
"I've never been in a big battle with other cats before", Winterpaw meowed coming up beside Hareleap when he mentioned war. "What is it like?", he asked curiously trying to learn all her could just in case they would soon be at war with the rouges from the Marshlands.
"Thank you", Viperfang meowed and at the smell of the plump vole she realized how famished she actually was. The queen was happy to have visitors and now with some food infront of her she started to eat, willing to share with Stormgaze if he wanted any.
Fallowleap hissed and jumped back completely surprised by the toms ruse. "That's not funny Geckoeyes! I thought you were seriously hurt", she meowed trying to be mad at him but as she looked at him she could help but let her tail curl with joy that he was as goofy as he was. "Well hopefully that knock on the head doesn't effect your hunting skills. I don't want to be embarrassed when we go back to camp and all you've found is a skimpy mouse", she meowed curtly and quickly turned away from him start hunting, but mainly so he thought that she was mad at him for scaring her like that.

Dipping her head, she took lead of the patrol with ears perked. Lionsky's neck was lowered slightly as she sniffed the ground to retrace the path and recover her tracks. They padded deeper into the forest and her golden fur started to fluff. The easterly squall from the brewing storm left her feeling chilly; however, she enjoyed the crispness in the air, for the strength it steeped in her bones. They were coming upon the pheasant now. It was strolling through a small clearing likely scavenging for food. It wasn't aware of the trio of cats either. Fortunately, the patrol was in good cover. With the thick trees surrounding the clearing, not only did they have the advantage of surprise, but the cover offered them an easy vantage point. Lionsky lowered herself in her earlier position, spotting the pheasant from afar. Her tail was flat and head lowered. She looked to Timberfall and Swallowsong."I think we can take it on. An excellent catch, especially with four new mouths to feed." Eyeing the pheasant, she took a moment to contemplate her course of action. "I have a plan if you all are in."

Swallowsong scented the squirrels and her mouth began to water. "I'll take on the squirrels if you two want to go after the pheasant." Yes, Swallowsong love hunting birds, but right now she just really wanted to chase down the squirrels. She stalked away from the twosome, hoping that they would be fine hunting without her. She looked back once more before disappearing in the undergrowth, creeping towards the delectable scent of little creatures.
Hareleap looked at the apprentice, "It is hard, and upsetting. I pray that you never have to endure it." Hareleap's eyes were sad. He had clearly gone through his fare share of tragedy, but he would still fight to his death for his clan.
Geckoeyes laughed at her comment and hopped down from his perch on the log. He noticed that she had turned her back to him and he was worried she was angry. He trotted up next to her and head butted her in the should affectionately. His eyes were warm- and a bit mischievous- as he looked at her. He was clearly fond of the lovely she-cat. He wasn't a tom who was scared to show his affections, but he was slow in showing them. After he had gazed at her briefly, he blinked several times and turned, scenting the air for prey. He needed to focus on something other than Fallowleaf, or he was likely to do exactly what she had said he would do, and return to camp with some measly piece of fresh-kill.

Nodding, Lionsky blinked in agreement towards Swallowsong who went off in search of squirrels. It was certainly better to have the patrol split up doing multiple things at once. She turned her head towards Timberfall to discuss the course of action. "Any plans?" It was important not to scare the bird off. Thankfully, with a pair of cats it made the likelihood of the pheasant escaping from their claws very low indeed.
(do you want ro go ahead and have moss-star react to the border patrol? May be a bit poofy again apologies))

"Okay", Timberfall meowed then turned to Lionsky. "We got this, what is your plan", he meowed silently curious as to how the yellow she-cat wanted to handle the hunting of the bird before them. The large brown tom moved into a crouch beside the warrior and waited for her instructions. Even though he was deputy he didn't mind it that another took the lead every once in a while. He liked to make sure that the others knew that he valued their opinions and experience.
Winterpaws eyes widened at the older toms response. He wasn't expecting something so grim. He thought the warrior would speak of glory and the thrill of battle, however the young white tom receive the cold hard truth about war. Heading the warriors words he left Hareleap to his thoughts and became silent.
Cavegrowl could finally see the camp ahead and picked up his pace to a brisk trot. Leading the patrol through the vine and thorn filled entrance the broad charcoal grey tom looked around for Timberfall. The deputy was sadly no where in sight, probably still out hunting, and to his disliking Moss-star was. The old senial cat noticed them arrive from on top highrock and slowly leapt down from her perch coming straight for them. His tail started to lash back and forth and he gave a short growl to show is dislike, however he stilled and quieted himself as his leader came closer.
"Whats the report?", Moss-star asked the patrol as she came closer. She looked to Cavegrowl and could see the toms disdain but ignored it and continued on. "You went to the Marshlands border, how did it go?", she asked curiously her voice raspy and her fur fluffed up against the cold breeze that had started to blow in harder. Cavegrowl remained silent as if he refused to speak to her first so she looked to the other cats in the patrol to answer her.

Hareleap nudged his way forwards and spoke to the she-cat. "We were attacked by a rogue cat from the marshlands. He pinned Winterpaw, but we were able to scare him off. He said we hadn't seen the last of thim." He stated flatly. "I suggest upping the border patrols in that area, but it is ultimately yours and Timberfalls decision." Hareleap wanted to make his opinion known.
Swallowsong's steps slowed as her eyes locked in on a bushy tail swaying back and forth near the base of a tall tree near the edge of the forest. Her pupils dilated in excitement and she gingerly approached the animal. As soon as she was in pouncing range, the she-cat leapt gracefully at the squirrel. Her long, hind legs propelled her forwards and in a flash, she had the creature pinned to the ground and lifeless beneath her.

(Back))
Honeybrook couldn't help but flatten his ears and curl his lip at the thought of the mangy rogue. "I swear next time I see that tom, he'll be crowfood!" He hissed mostly to himself, lashing his sandy colored tail wildly. StarClan, those marshland cats drove him crazier than a fox in a fit.
Flicking her ear in acknowledgement, she started to calculate the situation out. It looked as if the pheasant was still casually pecking for seeds, only now it was more centered in the clearing. As Lionsky's green eyes flickered about a strategy came to her mind. "Alright.. I think I've got something." When it came to hunting in teams she always kept the physique and skills of a cat in mind. "How about we split up on opposite sides. I'll surprise it on one end and when the bird tries to flee you can take it out?" She queried. Timberfall looked as if he could make a powerful jump, which might be necessary if the prey had decided to take air. In any case, she was hopeful that the two cats could close in and ensure a successful catch.

"Was it just one rouge or did he happen to mention that there was more than just him?", Moss-star questioned briskly surprised at the boldness of just one rouge and wondered if it was possible that they were starting to form together and become a threat. The old she-cat tried to stay still but being so old her pelt had thinned much and she began to shiver. Not caring she continued to still as still as possible despite the cold winds making her feel colder than comfort.

"That sounds like it might work. Lets give it a go, I'm sure we can make this kill", Timberfall meowed quietly and flicked his tail to start the hunt. He slowly moved into a close by position and waited for Lionsky to made her move. His muscles tensed underneath his think brown pelt and he kept his heart beat evenly paced as to not get too jittery.

"He said their numbers were building." Hareleap's gazed waivered from hers for a moment, eyes twitching downwards to see her shoulder muscles shivering. The tom held back smirk and returned his gaze to the old she-cat.
[Didn't know if you saw or this or not in one of my last posts.]

{{ Oh no i didn't thank you for re-posting it }}
Moss-star hissed at the new that Hareleap had given him. "This is not good. If they really are growing in numbers they could easily plan a trap for a patrol or a lone warrior, or apprentice at that. I want to know whats happening over there. We'll need to send a spy to see what we are up against. If they are still small in numbers then we can attack as soon as possible and stop them from getting the upper hand. But if they already are large enough to take us on... clan to clan... then we must be able to have time to prepare for battle." The leader fell silent and her gaze became unfocused as she started to think. "Thank you for this information. When Timberfall returns tell him to meet me in my den so we can discuss a proper plan of action." With that said the old cat rose stiffly and made her way to her den underneath high ledge. She was freezing cold and couldn't wait to be in the warmth of her den.
Fallowleaf relaxed her posture wen he came up to her and gave her an affectionate headbutt. The red and brown mottled she-cat gave the tom a soft look so that he knew that she wasn't really mad at him, and then focused on the hunt. The storm was coming in fast and she wanted to be back at the camp before it hit. It wasn't long till the she-cat could scent mouse and she broke away from Geckoeyes and followed it at a stealthy pace. It wasn't long and she came across the hole that the scent disappeared into and she knew that the small creature had already taken shelter from the storm. Flattening her ears in annoyance she focused again for something. Just as she started to focus again a sterling fluttered down from the tree not too far away and started to peck at the ground. Not wanting to miss the chance of catching it she moved forth and brought the bird down with a quick pounce and bite to the neck. Quickly burying it she continued to hunt hoping to get more than one thing before it was time to return to camp.

Hareleap nodded to the elderly leader and padded off to sit around the edge of camp and await Timberfalls return.
Geckoeyes snatched a small blackbird just as it was taking off and had quickly taken it down without much of a fight. He was on the hunt for more prey. The scent of a vole wafted across his path and the tom crouched, excited for the hunt. He snuck up on the small animal that as readying itself for the incoming storm. Quickly, Geckoeyes leapt at the creature and pinned it to the ground, dispatching it with ease. Geckoeyes was much more fond of battle practice, but he was an efficient hunter. He gathered his prey in his jaws- he could probably fit one more, but he wanted to get out of the weather- and headed back to where he last saw Fallowleaf. He set his fresh-kill down and waited patiently for the she-cat to return.

Fallowleaf finished her hunt with the killing of a plump grey squirrel that made her starling look tiny. Picking up the two she walked briskly back to where she had last seen Geckoeyes. The long-haired mottled she-cat found the tom awaiting her arrival with his own prey in his jaws. "Ready?", she meowed roughly through the prey in her mouth not wanting to set it down only to have to pick it back up again. The she-cat kept in a standing position waiting for Geckoeyes to join her so they could make it back to the camp.
Cavegrowl was surprised to see Iceberrry out and about but saw it as a good sign that she was recovering. "On the border patrol we ran into a rouge and it attacked Winterpaw. We managed to chase him off but the tom made sure to let us know that it was only the beginning and to expect to him him more as well as others." The toms deep meowed was still tense as he though of the possibility of going to war against them. "Its possible they are all starting to come together to take over more lands... Our lands", he added and looked at the she-cat his dark amber eyes curiously looking at her wondering what she thought about it.

Geckoeyes quickly scooped up his catch in his jaws and started back towards camp at a quick pace. It was a pretty quiet trek back, considering both cats had a full mouth of prey, although it wasn't an uncomfortable silence- in Geckoeyes' opinion at least. He stayed close to Fallowleaf, not trying to be overprotective or overbearing, just because he enjoyed being near her. He flicked his gaze to her often, for not much reason other than to see her. The forest became denser and denser, vines and moss having overtaken almost everything- they were nearing camp.

Giving a quick nod to Timberfall, she observed as he positioned himself on the opposite side of the clearing in order to play out the strategy. Lionsky lowered herself into the thick underbrush, shoulders hunched and body low. She analyzed her prey before gradually entering into the glade. As her distance started to close, the pheasant let out a shrill bleat of alarm and began to hop away from her. Its speed increasing, Lionsky raised her tail and gave a flick, signalling the tom to move in and make the kill.

Honeybrook broke away from the rest of the patrol and picked up a vole from the fresh-kill pile. With a huff, he plopped down in a deserted corner of the camp on a comfortable thresh of vines and moss. The sandy colored tom was muttering to himself as he poked a foreclaw at the vole before giving it a timid bite.

Fallowleaf made sure to keep pace with Geckoeyes and due to the terrain it cause her to occasionally brush up against his flank. At first she flinched away but each time it occurred she realized that she liked it more and more, especially since the cold winds had picked up and was ruffling her long fur the wrong way. By the time they had made it back to the camp Fallowleaf could feel the tiny freezing droplets of rain sprinkle down onto her face. Ducking through the vine and thorn tunnel she entered the hollow and made a b-line for the fresh-kill pile. Setting down the starling and the squirrel she turned and looked at Geckoeyes, "Would you like to share this squirrel with me?", she asked kindly as her paws touched the grey squirrels pelt.
Timberfall waited for the signal and the moment he had it he shoved off the ground and took a flying leap over the fern fronds and ontop of the startled pheasant. It had no idea that he was there and by the time it tried to take flight the weight of the heavy tom had already crashed down on to its back. Timberfall gripped it with his claws as it tried to flap his off and quickly bit down on the birds neck, cutting off its air flow. Moments later the bird stopped moving and the large brown tom stood up with its limp body in his jaws. The bird was large and would easily fill up four bellies. "Let get back to Swallowsong and then head to camp", he instructed through a mouthful of feathers to Lionsky as she approached.

"No, I don't. It could all be and empty threat for all we know", Cavegrowl meowed and looked to Fallowleaf and Geckoeyes as they entered the camp. "But", he added turning back to look at Iceberry, "Moss-star did mention sending a spy or two over the border to see whats happening over there." The tom wasn't quite sure he agreed with that decision but it was really their best was of knowing the truth about what was happening in the Marshlands.

Swallowsong had just finished tracking down a mouse when she heard a bird squawking from somewhere behind her. Her ears pricked and she raised her head, limp prey hanging from her jaws. She had already caught a squirrel and a vole by the time the bird had sounded it's alarm call, and had quickly been silenced. The creamy colored she-cat padded back to where she had buried her first two fresh kill and quickly unearthed them, heading back the way she came.
Geckoeyes dropped his fresh-kill down on the pile and raised his gaze to Fallowleaf. He shook his pelt as the rain started to fall from the sky. He dipped his head to the she-cat, pleasantly surprised by her offer. He purred, eyes sparkling and tail curling happily, "I would love to," He mewed. He turned and motioned for her to join him under a rocky outcropping that was surrounded by several low hanging vines and moss. He waited for her to walk with him before he moved towards the inviting spot.

Just as Timberfall started to feel the first freezing rain drops of the storm he watched as Swallowsong approached with a respectable amount of prey dangling from her jaws. Flicking his tail at her he shook the small droplets from his pelt and started back towards camp at a brisk pace. He wanted to get back to the shelter of the hollow and its dens before the brunt f the storm hit. They were in the northern part of the territory so of course they would feel the first of the storm before anyone else. Flattening his ears against the weather the deputy picked up his pace knowing that the others didn't want to be out in this weather, risking getting sick or just simply being in the cold.
Quickly picking up the squirrel when he accepted, Fallowleaf moved underneath the sheltered rocky outcrop. There was thick moss covering the floor and the she-cat settled down in the back of the shelter wanting to be able to get as warm as possible. She set the squirrel down and pushed it away from her so that the tom could have the first bite.

Swallowsong nodded and fell in line behind Timberfall, shivering slightly from the crisp, damp, air. She moved quickly, but elegantly- slipping through the undergrowth with ease, despite the large weight of prey she carried.
Geckoeyes followed Fallowleaf as she made her way to the outcropping. He watched her settle down in the back- where it was warmest. She pushed the squirrel towards him and, instead of chowing down, he nuzzled it back towards her and, seeing as how she was cold, he snuggled up next to her- he was even bold enough to wrap his tail around her. Then, when he was finally comfortable, he took a small bite out of the fresh-kill and offered it back to Fallowleaf. As he chewed his food, he marveled at how at ease he felt around the cat next to him.

Fallowleaf knew Geckoeyes to not be shy about his feelings towards her but she was surprised by his boldness. Oddly she found comfort in the toms closeness and she didn't decline his advance by moving away. If anything the longhaired she-cat slightly pressed against him. When he pawed the squirrel back over to her she took two good bites and as she chewed she nosed it back his way. The mottled red and brown she-cat was perfectly content with everything around her and didn't even notice that a faint purr was sounding in her throat.
