SkyClan Camp | Evening Rabbitwhisker | 56 Moons | Tom-cat [ OOC ]
Rabbitwhisker looked over at Sootpaw and nodded in agreement. "He's right Cinderpaw. Branchstar isn't in his right mind and there's really not much we can about it. I'd rather deal with this than you, I honestly don't know what he would do with you if you were to stand up for me. Chances are we both would be exiled," he shuddered at the thought and he looked at his apprentice. "I'm glad you want to stand up for me, but Branchstar isn't that cat you want to against and I would never forgive myself if he hurt you or just exiled you," he said nuzzling his apprentice trying to ease her. He despised his leader at the moment for bringing up the most painful memory that he kept trying to push away. Those words echoed in his mind. No, I'm not gonna let Sweetrose bring me down anymore. He thought to himself and he laid beside Cinderpaw he didn't care what his leader did to him but he was gonna have her become a warrior. coding by officialrainleafwcf

Cinderpaw let out an angry huff, hackles slowly lowering. "Yeah... Well, he doesn't have the right to treat any of us like the way he was. Someone needs to sort him out." She muttered, looking away from the group she was with. She didn't care what any of them had to say... If Branchstar tried to hurt one of her clanmates again, then she was going to do something about it. Your supposed to protect your clan above all else... But why doesn't Starclan say anything about when the threat is in your own clan? She wondered in frustration. Sootpaw shook his head, but remained silent. There was nothing he could say or do to calm his fiery sister at this point, that much he knew.
Runningfoot had been watching this event unfold before him in horror, the young warrior unsure as to what to do. If only we had a medicine cat who could tell us what to do... He thought, longingly staring at what used to be the medicine cats den. Part of him wanted to go to highstones himself, and demand from Starclan some answers... And yet, he knew that was an extremely bad idea.

SkyClan Camp | Evening Rabbitwhisker | 56 Moons | Tom-cat [ OOC ]
Rabbitwhisker looked at Cinderpaw and sighed. "I know, there's no excuse for what he did. But I'm okay, I'm sure he didn't mean to hurt me," he said hoping that he was right. He didn't want his own leader to hurt him nor any of the rest of the Clan. His ears flatten at the thought. Did, did he say those things to hurt me? He wondered mostly to himself and he looked at Cinderpaw it was obvious that his apprentice was upset. He had no idea what to do or what to say to make her feel better. He only knew that his leader was the source of her frustration. He looked around the camp and it seemed like who was in camp saw the whole ordeal and he wasn't one for attention. "Hey Cinderpaw, wanna go battle training?" he asked and then looked at Sootpaw. "If Quialfeather says yes, you two can meet us there okay?" he asked. coding by officialrainleafwcf

- Quailfeather ;; Thank the stars, her father had returned at last. From where she sat, her guard relaxed and eyes brightened. She was pleased to see him in the presence of Cherrysong and Stormtrail, both of whom she trusted entirely to keep him breathing whenever he was out doing something reckless. Her gaze, however, lingered on the scarred toms. What secrets had they been sharing? Stormtrail more stoic of the two, Timberjaw was hard to read purely given his face, but she had learned long ago how to interpret the signs. Once her father had gone to pass did she stand, turning her head and rubbing beneath his crooked jaw and along his side even while he continued his determined stride. "Papa," She greeted in a quiet mew. Surprised by his response, she learned that he had something rather urgent to discuss with her, and that until then she should go with Cinderpaw and Rabbitwhisker. "Luck be with you." She mused under her breath, flashing an odd look toward Stormtrail and Cherrysong once she bounded pass. Peculiar- for now, though. "Sootpaw! I'm sorry, I'd been too busy worrying over Timberjaw to think of training. Rabbitwhisker I'd adore to accompany you and Cinderpaw." She had arrived just in time then, oh, she felt terrible now. Her whiskers trembled, a signature gesture of mild distress for her. Today had been almost overwhelming to her poor heart, and all she had done was await her father anxiously. She wasn't sure what she'd do with herself once he had gone, especially given as he had been aiding in her training Sootpaw in Battle. She was still rather terrible at it, luckily Timberjaw stepped in and with Rabbitwhisker training his sister she was perfectly fine.
- Timberjaw ;; He wasn't sure what had happened, really, cause he simply hadn't been here. He had been with Stormtrail and Cherrysong throughout the day- only upon returning did he learn of Rabbitwhisker's attempts to gain the apprentices of a proper warrior name, he flashing his eyes around until they landed upon his daughter, sitting with her tail curled tightly around her paws and anxiety clouding her dark eyes. She had relaxed visibly upon sight of him, he giving a lash of his kinked tail. Could he allow this? Well and truly? Branchstar was of age to be even his mentor, but Timberjaw had his morals.
With but a glance toward his companions to dismiss them from his presence should they chose, he took long strides toward the Leader's den. Of course his intent was to rile the other tom more than likely- he not at all one to shy from a few harsh words given his frame of mind. He just... he felt a change was necessary as the next most senior cat in the clan, he had that right to step forward when the youth chose not to or couldn't.
He had passed by his daughter, muttering a few spare words and leaving her to gaze after him in a curious fashion. Sparing her no more than a second thought did he raise his voice, announcing his presence albeit a tad too loudly to be anything less than demanding of an audience. "Branchstar, I must speak to you." He had nosed his way within the den, standing broad and stocky far enough away to be considered respectful. How in Starclan's name could he handle a pointed conversation with the Leader's decaying mind? Perhaps bluntness? "I have been wondering, Branchstar, what you may think of Cindertuft and Sootheart for warrior names? Darkclaw and Leafheart's kittens? Surely her son has taken after her enough to earn his mother's name." He may only pray that he had better luck than Rabbitwhisker and Quailfeather, of whom both had approached the elderly tom on the account of their apprentices. He dare not mention his plot to switch Stormtrail and Quailfeather just yet- he was beginning to think that may be something he took into his own paws whether he be punished for it or not.

Sootpaw gently nudged his mentor affectionately, honestly relieved to have her there right now, "Thats alright! There's not much that you missed," The young tom told her, glancing over at where Cinderpaw left, trying to push his own worries about his sister aside. It was clear to him that Quailfeather was distressed, so it was his job to relieve her of any worries concerning him. "It will be fun, doing some battle training. In fact, Cinderpaw and I have been practicing a move for two cats. Maybe we could show you?" He asked, almost shyly. This was more talking than the tom was used too, Cinderpaw always did the talking for the two of them, but his sister was long gone, probably already at the training area, leaving him to do the explaining.

- Quailfeather ;; She had turned her head, swiping her tongue over her Apprentice's ear in an affection gesture. She honestly imagined this to be what motherhood felt like- she had come close to viewing him as a son; that special Apprentice and Mentor bond she had never thought she of all cats would be lucky enough to experience. "I would love to see what you've been working on, Sootpaw. Perhaps you can teach me for once, and anything Timberjaw and Rabbitwhisker have shown you." She mewed, accepting of her own miserable battle skills and therefore not at all bothered to acknowledge her apprentice the better between them at sparring.
And then her ears twitched, she casting a glance over her shoulder. "Timberjaw's confronting Branchstar now. With any luck he'll have a bit more pull on his words than Rabbitwhisker." A mildly apologetic glance, she too understood the hurt the elderly tom could inflict, as she too had felt the sting of his words when she attempted to speak with him. If only they had a Medicine Cat- in times like these, he or she would have taken over and been granted the momentary right of appointing a Deputy... or so she thought. As someone capable of speaking through their ancestors, she'd certainly hope so given the circumstances.

SkyClan Camp | Evening Rabbitwhisker | 56 Moons | Tom-cat [ OOC ]
Rabbitwhisker looked at Cinderpaw and sighed. "It's not your fault," he said, "It was just not meant to be." He knew that deep down that he should forget her but he truly did care for her. He figured that she did too, but that wasn't the case she wanted to hurt him not keep him from the pain. "I can find someone better anyway," he said, he meant it. He could find someone who actually cares for him and won't throw him away like a rotten crow. He looked at Cinderpaw and gave a warm hearted purr. "Maybe this one you could get a real bond," he said with a happy purr. He liked to think that a mate would actually like and get along with Cinderpaw and try to her give her a place in her heart. "Sweetrose isn't worth this sadness," he said mostly to himself. coding by officialrainleafwcf

Rabbitwhisker looked at Sootpaw and sighed. "It's not your fault," he said, he watched as his apprentice stormed off. He looked at Quailfeather. "Evening," he said he wasn't happy with the events that took place today everything made him on edge and he looked over at Sootpaw and heard him talk about what all he learned. He purred a little bit, but then it faded away. "I wish Timberjaw luck. After all Branchstar seemed to rub my use to be mate in my face," he said bitterly. He hated being reminded of that prominent scar on his heart. coding by officialrainleafwcf

- Quailfeather ;; "Oh Rabbitwhisker, ignore him. Sweetrose was only a bad thorn, she hurt you but she's given you beautiful kits." Quailfeather reminded her fellow Mentor with an incline of her head and a saddened gleam to her emerald eyes. Poor thing was destroyed by the troublesome she-cat, and even to a bystander it was heartbreaking to see him degrade himself to a bitter shell of his former self. "Perhaps," She agreed with Sootpaw. "Though I worry his face will ruin his reputation." It was a subtle musing, but there nonetheless. She was half concerned Branchstar would dismiss him as an ugly and senile old tom- ironic given the circumstances.
"Off we go, then, before we lose her." She reminded the two, turning to trod lightly after Cinderpaw. Never the spotlight, no, but she'd be the first to take after the aggravated young feline if her brother and mentor wouldn't. Consider it her place to try and show concern, she and a select few others were taking up the mantle of worry warts given the precarious situation of even a thorn in someone's pad causing trouble.

Rabbitwhisker looked up at Quailfeather and gave a light purr. "Yeah she did, although she treats our son like two-leg garbage," he said he didn't like how she treated his son it made his blood boil. Once he heard about heading over to the training area he gave a nod. "Alright," he said and he followed them to the battle training area. "Thank you Quailfeather," he said, he appreciate the other she-cats kindness. "You're a good friend." He may not know much about her but he does care about her in a friendly way. He knew that she would try and help no matter what and he appreciated that. coding by officialrainleafwcf

- Quailfeather ;; Upon arrival did Quailfeather stop to survey Cinderpaw, she blinking twice before summoning the courage to stride forward. "Cinderpaw darling you have beautiful form." She complimented, a weak attempt to lighten the mood even by her own standards. Ah, but credit was due. Her eyes cast from the gray pelted she-cat to her brother, her tail tip giving a decisive flick. "Sootpaw was telling me of some sparring you two have done, if you'd care to show me? I'm terrible at it, perhaps I could learn a thing or two." She suggested, having long ago taken to treating the duo as equal. In her eyes they were warriors- names mattered very little in her eyes, given they were both mature and certainly the age of a proper warrior. She could only assume Rabbitwhisker felt the same.

SkyClan Camp | Evening Rabbitwhisker | 56 Moons | Tom-cat [ Oh that's amazing XDD ]
Rabbitwhisker was prideful with Cinderpaw's training and he chuckled at Quailfeather's words. "Oh yes, my apprentice is already teaching me on how to be more graceful when hunting," he said proudly other mentors would probably be embarrassed but not him. He was so proud of his apprentice and he enjoyed being taught but he knew that Cinderpaw would teach any cat on skills that they were lacking and he was proud about that. He enjoyed being taught by his apprentice. coding by officialrainleafwcf [/quote]

Cinderpaw shot a look at her brother, a look unreadable to anyone else but Sootpaw. One meaning "you told them already?", but she recovered quickly with a purr. "Yeah, sure, we can show you. Its not quite perfected yet, but it could be useful in battle one day." She mewed, curling her tail over her paws, waiting for the elder warrior to take place. With a sheepish glance towards his sister, the tom padded over and sat next to them, looking like a mirror image of each other.

Rabbitwhisker looked at Cinderpaw and gave an encouraging nod letting her know that he is there and no matter what he'll be proud of her. In fact he was already proud of her, and what Branchstar had said left his mind and he was more focused on the gray she-cat in front of him. Nothing could make his pride disperse and he had hoped once Timberjaw spoke with his leader everything will be fine. These two fine apprentices, would finally get the ceremony they deserve. He had hoped that everything will go right for his apprentice she had worked so hard to get what she wanted and he wanted to be there for her. He wanted to see her succeed and remind him that he didn't fail, and that she can come to him if she needed too. Leader's Den | Evening Branchstar | 89 Moons | Male [ ooc ]
Branchstar glanced at his misshapen clanmate, faded eyes narrowing in confusion. "Ahh yes... Good cats, the both of them. Tragedy yes... but kits? Are they not tiny ones still? I am sure they're much too small to have warrior names." He scowled, brows furrowing at the senior warrior. "I'll not sour SkyClan's reputation by having kit-warriors, Timberjaw. I just won't have it." He seemed very adamant in this, a glimmer of his old self shining through the haze of age and a disturbed mind. "You know I can't let children become warriors too soon, they need their happiness while they can get it. Without a medicine cat I just can't take that chance." The old male looked at his paws, almost ashamed. "I have hatched a plan to fix that point. You're a good cat, Timberjaw. Can always trust you to stay loyal to SkyClan's interests." Lifting pale eyes, Branchstar made sure to hold the warrior's gaze. A test, from a mad cat's mind, to see who was loyal and who was not. He was always suspicious these days. coding by officialrainleafwcf

- Quailfeather ;; "I'll take your word for it, Cinderpaw. You've shown astonishing skill from what I've seen." A sweet talker like her father, though she'd never quite realize it. It was in her nature- subdued tones, polite gestures, trying to keep the peace... one face among dozens, made special only by her capability to overlook flaws and conjure some sort of reasoning to bite her tongue and pay her dues. One of her few skills perhaps. Rabbitwhisker honestly should be rewarded in her eyes. He was so invested and proud of his apprentice- she looked at her own and- while she was proud indeed- she felt a certain level of detachment she thought shouldn't be there. A deep seated bond, as expected of Mentor and Apprentice, but who had taught him to fight? Certainly not her. What had she taught him instincts couldn't provide? Nothing, she mused, for he was intuitive and adept. Entirely unlike her despite her best efforts.
- Timberjaw ;; Tiny, perhaps, but not anymore. No, they were grown. Big and fit and strong. "Small only to the likes of me, Branchstar." The tom rumbled, having taken a seat to appear less confrontational. His head inclined, and his maw softened, eyes widening as if in the resemblance to a smile his broken jaw couldn't achieve. Upon mentioning of the kits turned warriors, his tattered ears gave an agreeing little flick. "Skyclan could never be soured by your actions, Branchstar. You of all cats know this. You guide us when the Stars can't provide." Can't or won't? He was beginning to question it. Nonetheless, he met his Leader's unnerving gaze with that of his own partially cataract one. "I trust you have a plan indeed," Of which he'd not admit to knowing- not entirely anyway. "Though- if I may- you remember my little one, yes? Sweet girl, never really... fit. I'm beginning to wonder if she'd work better with plants than she does her claws." An indirect suggestions, one he'd hope would work out better than the failing approach he had taken in regards to the apprentices. They- hopefully- would not have long to wait. Branchstar was unfit to lead, should he be convinced of it, he may retire for the welfare of his clan. Unlikely, yes, but one could always hope. Hope was all the clan had- and it's faith, though he worried that would dwindle a good deal more quickly than the former. If anything he was beginning to wonder if he was overdue for a little prep talking- a trait he'd taken up on the account of stifling the mutters of his clanmates.

(Ach every time there is a Branchstar post my heart breaks more and more </3 in a good way, though.)
"Th-Thanks Quailfeather, " Cinderpaw mewed, looking genuinely surprised. She was usually not to popular among the mentors- her hot head and tendency to go by instincts instead of her brain often brought trouble. The she cat prepared to attack, only signaling her brother to prepare with a flick of her ear. Sootpaw got the message loud and clear, and settled into a crouch, the dark toms hackles raising as if his mentor where an actual enemy. Cinderpaw followed suit, waiting to see where Quailfeather would move first.
Sootpaw didn't mind the slight detachment Quailfeather had with him, in fact he preferred it. The quiet tom wouldn't know how to handle an overly proud mentor like Rabbitwhisker. Perhaps thats why Branchstar chose her, as she matched his personality quite well.

- Quailfeather ;; Oh, no, they meant to practice on her? For a moment or so she stiffened, watching with decisive green hued eyes as the siblings fell into crouches. A dynamic duo, she knew, and she had no reason to fear. Yet, she was reminded painfully of how much they had grown. At first Sootpaw wasn't half her size, now he was on the verge of being taller than her courtesy to her own modest stature. The somewhat plump feline unlocked her legs and fell into a partial crouch, the fur atop her ruff beginning to spike of it's own accord. How odd to be afraid when she'd asked for this- though she hadn't known at the time. You're fine. Quit being over dramatic. She mused to herself, giving her tail tip a flick in gesture to let them know she was ready.

Cinderpaw was first to strike, the long-legged feline leaped forward, battering the warrior, as if taunting her to strike out. The fluffy grey she cat did her best to look intimidating, feral snarl on the elder apprentices face. Sootpaw circled the two, waiting for the moment Quailfeather was distracted, so he could get his window into the fight. Pale-blue eyes cold and calculating, the tom looked as if he where lying in wait, paws light on the ground ready to leap forward when he could.

Leader's Den | Evening Branchstar | 89 Moons | Male [ ooc ]
Eyes widening in surprise, Branchstar wondered, indeed, how much time had really passed. "Have they truly grown so much? No tricks?" His rasp was warning, ears flicking absentmindedly. "Perhaps I should see them myself to judge if they are ready. In my day leaders were actively involved with the training of apprentices, but I have seen not a young one in sight! And no kits bumbling about in the nursery, either! What is it with young cats these days, have their familial interests lagged?" A miniature rant to be sure, booming in volume as his voice surely carried out of his den and into camp. "Ah I do remember your girl... the only survivor of her litter, yes? A bird name... Quail, yes?" The munchkin did not pause in his words, well. He didn't pause much.
Perking up at the mention of his plan, Branchstar's faded eyes gleamed with an odd light. "My plan, it is a good plan. Ingenious. You know of my friendship with Morningstar of RiverClan, yes? Good cat. Worthy of SkyClan, a real shame he eats fish. Anyway, you remember Torrentfall and his arrogant brood? The fool thought he could steal Cloudwisher from me and while he got her, his children will never be able to carry on his treacherous blood. The daughter drowned, you know this. Terrible tragedy, would have grown up to be such a pretty thing. The son though– now that is a trouble maker. Have had my eye on him since he was an apprentice. Too soft to be a real warrior, so I'm going to ship him off to RiverClan for medicine cat training. Your girl might be his apprentice once he's fully established into his new position– and once he is no longer a threat." Softly, but manically said. Branchstar's mind whirled, he just knew that Torrentfall's boy was no good. No good at all, a rotten dudderhead that one. Would poison the Clan if he got to leadership. If he wasn't so old, Branchstar might have staged an 'accident' for the boy, perhaps by the gorge. Would be a terrible tragedy, if the son died in the same way as the father. The sister shouldn't have died, she would have been a worthy female. Beautiful, like her mother. Too bad that storm got her... heh. Storm. The leader wouldn't have been surprised if the boy popped off his own sister. Traitor's blood, that one. Like father, like son, as the saying goes... coding by officialrainleafwcf

Runningfoot had padded by the leaders den, overhearing Branchstars conversation. He felt a pang in his chest, the tom had been weighing his options lately, and, them needing a medicine cat, had been hoping he would have been chosen. I guess it will be time to bury that dream with the dirt. He thought grimly, tail drooping as he resumed his walk towards the fresh-kill pile. I suppose Branchstar wouldn't consider me, anyways, considering his recent lapse in judgement. He wouldn't want a half-clan medicine cat. If only I had asked before my apprentice ceremony. He thought bitterly.

- Quailfeather ;; Once the first wave came, Quailfeather spun on her heel in attempt to both batter back and defend herself from Cinderpaw, she now struggling to keep Sootpaw in her line of sight. Did it much help they had similar pelts? Of course not. Moving quickly made them a haze to her eye, ears flattening back on response to the soft paws that smacked at her. And, though she had yet to witness the actual move discussed, she must confess: Cinderpaw was certainly fast. Much more so than Quailfeather, whom had learned long ago that her greatest speed achieved was that in which she scarfed down a mouse before the dawn patrol. Though as her gut may say, eating quickly wasn't an entirely new concept for the likes of her.
- Timberjaw ;; "No tricks my friend. Worthy of their names." Timberjaw confirmed easily enough, a low rumble of bemusement to be heard resonating from his chest. "That is right! Come see, then, how big they've gotten. If anything, Branchstar, I don't think it's "familial interest" lagging. It seems half of the youth has lost the ability to tolerate each other." A true chortle of laughter now, for this was the old man's talk Timberjaw quite simply craved. A gossip friend, even if he was teetering on the verge of insanity. But a friend he was, and would remain till his last breath. "Yes, a bird she is and the only one at that. Bless her siblings hearts, I can only imagine what they'd have turned out to be in these seasons." That, at least, he could spend time fanaticizing about.
He'd imagine Beetlekit to be wiry, with a fuzzy pelt entirely untamable. Honeypaw, on the other hand, would have grown to be loosely fluffy as her sister, and far more boisterous in personality. How he missed the days of one kitten crawling over him, the other laying content beside his paw.
"Yes, I do remember." He'd muttered, listening in intent now as Branchstar conveyed a plan he had learned previous from Stormtrail himself. Ah... so this is where the problem lay. Branchstar had forgotten to fight the battles ahead of him- he was fighting those behind him instead. Blinking his warm honey eyes upon the plotting leader, Timberjaw only bobbed his head in a sort of accepting gesture given his words. "I believe your choices and their validations, Branchstar." He finally meowed, his ears flicking forward. Then, in an octave quieter, he asked: "Would you like to come with me to see the apprentices?" Subdued, his mind frazzled by what he had learned that day and the sight of his leader before him. He hadn't thought Branchstar would do this deliberately just to spite Stormtrail and his parents, but... now he supposed he'd been confronted with too much evidence to state otherwise. No matter. Branchstar was a puzzle slowly falling to bits, Timberjaw would just have to lend his aid to picking up the pieces and forming a new picture.
