Mistleheart's Origin Story! (Moon 17 of YewClan's roleplay)
POF: Lily (Mistleheart's mother)
(TW: death, blood)
There was once a beautiful she-cat named Lily who was a loner who lived in a barnyard near PlumClan's territory. She loved to eat mice and rabbits, and stayed clear of the Twolegs who lived there. She was a beautiful fluffy white she-cat with icy blue eyes.
One day, the Twolegs adopted a new farm cat, a kittypet named Dusty to help control the mice population in the barn. While Lily was hunting mice inside the barn, she stumbled into him. Dusty was also in the barn hunting mice. Dusty was a very handsome gray tabby tom with piercing yellow eyes. Lily quickly fell in love with him, talking about their lives and experiences with each other.
They became mates one day, and eventually, Lily found out she was expecting kits with him. This made the fluffy white loner very excited, so she skipped around expecting to find her love to tell him the news. But Dusty was nowhere to be seen, and Lily looked very hard for him! She even searched inside the twoleg nest, which she was too cautious to go inside before... but there was no sign of the handsome tabby tom, or even his twolegs. The twoleg den were completely empty... with no furniture, and when Lily went outside the cows and sheep were gone too! Dusty and his twolegs have moved somewhere else, and Lily found it hard to imagine what Dusty's reaction from being taken away from his love with be! He must of been heartbroken to be never see his mate again because his twolegs decided to move out of the barnyard!
As a season passed, Lily gave birth to a single kit. A tiny fluffy white she-kit with two gray speckled patches on her back. Lily decided to call her kit Mistle, as it was such an adorable name! When Mistle opened her eyes for the first time, they were piercing yellow, and Lily's heart panged with grief when she saw her mate Dusty in her.
As Mistle has gotten bigger, Lily needed to hunt to keep producing milk for her. She hesitated to leave her daughter alone, but she really needed milk. So Lily headed to barn.... Only to find a giant swarm of rats have overtaken the barn that mice used to live in, squeaking loudly and horribly! Terrified, Lily ran back to her kit Mistle empty pawed. She vigorously apologized to her when she stopped producing milk as days passed. Lily finally felt brave enough to check the barn again to see if the rat swarm had left. But to Lily's horror, the rats were not only still there, but the swarm was even larger! With horror, Lily ran back to her daughter Mistle, and decided to evacuate the barnyard with her. It was the beginning of greenleaf, and it was very hot outside! With Mistle's scruff in her mouth, Lily took one last glance at the barnyard, before walking away in the unbearable heat. Those rats must of sought the barn to stay cool in this very hot greenleaf!
Now, there was Lily panting in the heat with her daughter Mistle following close behind. Padding through PlumClan's territory, her stomach dropped when she came across a massive Thunderpath full of thundering monsters! Mistle was very frightened at the sight of the horrible loud screeching monsters, and hid behind one of Lily's front legs. Determined to comfort her daughter, and make it to the other side of the Thunderpath, Lily gained some confidence and determination.
"
Don't worry my sweet Mistle... We'll cross the giant Thunderpath together! You'll be fine!" She comforted her daughter.
Lily waited until the first section of the thunderpath was clear before signalling her daughter Mistle that it was safe to cross. The hot cement burnt under Lily paws as she and Mistle ran across it. What Lily didn't know there was another section of the Thunderpath to cross with it's own stream of monsters. What was worse that the monsters were all going in the opposite direction to the first section. Lily thought it was completely safe to cross the Thunderpath with Mistle when there wasn't a monster in sight in the direction she thought they would go. As Lily started running across the Thunderpath with her daughter, a horrible screeching nose and a pair of two lights came from behind her. Turning, Lily stared in horror as a giant monster was hurtling straight at her! She couldn't move; she was frozen fear at the terrifying sight of the monster!
As the monster hit Lily, it sent shock waves through Lily's body. Shocking her, it didn't hurt very much, and Lily had give way to the darkness that swallowed her soon after being hit. Peace washed through every inch of Lily as she listened to the blackness. It was a very comforting feeling, making her think everything would be alright even though it wasn't. She felt her rapidly beating heart stop.
Finally, as the world got brighter, Lily opened her eyes, only to find in horror that she was a spirit standing over her bloodied body! Lily let out a horrible shriek as she stepped away, her transparent body feeling as light as a feather. Lily no longer felt very hot from the heat of Greenleaf, but the horror was still there realizing that she was no longer alive.
NOOO!!! I'M DEAD!!! But that was wasn't the most concerning thing of the situation Lily got herself in! Lily quickly turned her head and looked in all directions, but her daughter, Mistle was no where to be seen! What has happened to her?!
MY DAUGHTER!!! MISTLE!!! WHERE ARE YOU?!?! PLEASE BE OKAY!!! She glided to the other side of the thunderpath and found her daughter Mistle huddled up in the grass.
"
Mistle!!! It's okay... I'm here... " Mewed Lily as she walked up to her to embrace her.
However Mistle didn't turn her head to see her mother, and was still huddled there like she wasn't there! Lily tried to place a paw on her daughter's body, but with horror, it phased through and hit the ground instead.
Oh right.... I'm dead! thought Lily sadly as she cuddled around her daughter, hoping her presence would comfort the tiny kit.
And now those bloodthirsty Clan cats are going to get her!!! " Her stomach lurched as she thought about the Clan cats.
Mistle finally got up onto her paws to look for her mother. She phased through Lily as she headed back to the Thunderpath.
But I'm right here! Lily thought desperately
Why can't you at least feel my presence?!As she followed Mistle back to the Thunderpath, she saw her daughter stare in horror at her bloody body lying on the middle of the cement. She started wailing, but she was too afraid to head up to her body as monsters were still passing through it. Lily curled up right next Mistle, crying for her daughter, as she remained there, frozen with shock and grief from seeing her dead.
After several hours, as Mistle finally got up to her tiny paws, Lily got up too. For a moon, Lily followed her daughter wherever she went, and watched with horror as she became malnourished from the lack of milk in her belly. The only thing Mistle was eating were some bugs, like beetles and crickets.
One day, Lily was at her daughter's side when she smelt Clan cats scent. In her days alone, Mistle have wandered into the forest territory of the cats from YewClan. Lily was terrified for her, as she was terrified she would be viscously killed and eaten by the YewClan cats... She head rumors that YewClan cats were the worst of all of them! Lily stood nearby, watching her with fear as she was hidden inside a bush after she smelled the YewClan cats' scents. She wanted her to be safe, and she couldn't do anything to save her daughter when the YewClan cats come!
Lily raised her hackles and flattened her ears, as she watched as three YewClan cats, a mostly black furred she-cat with small patches of dark ginger fur, a speckled gray tom, and a gray tom with white markings that look remarkably like an owl approach the bush where her daughter was hiding. Her stomach lurched as the black-furred she-cat poked her head inside the bush, telling Mistle she was not going to eat her and will care for her as a Clan cat.
Obviously she is trying to trick her into leaving the bush so the Clan cats will eat her for dinner!!! Thought Lily with horror.
Lily was shocked when her daughter Mistle thought these CLAN cats will be caring to her, and accepted the gray tom with owl-patterning's offer give her a badger ride back to back to their camp.
Lily's heart was racing as she glided towards the gray tom giving Mistle a badger ride to their camp, and she gasped with shock at how small YewClan was when she entered her camp. If she was alive and her daughter wasn't literally being carried here, she wouldn't have ever set paw here, as she thought she would be mauled to death here! But here she was in YewClan's camp, and though the Clan cats couldn't see her, they were very welcoming and being friendly with her daughter.
Maybe these Clan cats aren't as bad as I thought... Lily was right there in camp, beside the Clan cats gathered under the a large rock. A ginger and white tom was perched on the top of the rock, looking very happy to welcome her daughter into YewClan. Lily's heart swelled with joy as the ginger tom renamed Mistle to
Mistlekit and proclaims her to be a member of YewClan, but she couldn't help but wonder why these cats were being SO FRIENDLY and CARING with her daughter, when she always thought of them being bloodthirsty and dangerous.
As time passed, Lily was always there, sleeping beside Mistlekit as she slept in the nursery, and beside her as she received mushed up fresh-kill from the fresh-kill pile as an alternative to milk to eat. She was very happy to see her regaining her normal weight, and becoming healthy and happy again. And most of all, she was very happy to see that she was being taken care of very well by the Clan cats.
But when the terrible yellowcough outbreak came around in leaf-bare after her daughter became apprenticed to the speckled gray warrior, Spottedfur, she was very worried for her health - both her physical and mental health, and also for the other cats in the Clan, as everyone were starving, and almost everyone were sick with yellowcough. But when newleaf came, everything came back to normal again, and Mistlekit, now
Mistlepaw was happy again. And Lily have learnt these Clan cats were caring to outsiders, and were not bloodthirsty and dangerous, coming together to work in difficult situations like the yellowcough outbreak.
Lily's heart swelled with joy and pride as her daughter, Mistlepaw was named a warrior, and was renamed to
Mistleheart in Greenleaf, a year after her tragic death on the Thunderpath. Her spine shivered when she said the oath where she would risk her life to save others in her Clan, but she hoped that she will live a long and healthy life as a warrior.
Wherever Mistleheart went, Lily was always with her, even she couldn't see her or even feel her presence. She watched proudly as Mistleheart became best friends with Slatefoot, another warrior of YewClan and only slightly younger than her. She was a dark gray she-cat with a white underbelly and pale yellow eyes.
When Mistleheart announced that she was expecting kits in front of the Clan on the Great Rock, Lily was so proud of her daughter, raising the next generation of Clan cats and carrying on her legacy. Lily was going to be a grandmother! Though she wasn't alive to meet them and share tongues with them.
Lily was right next to her daughter when she gave birth to four tiny kits, named Cicadalkit, Lightkit, Gentlekit and Gustkit at the time, in the nursery. She couldn't be any more proud of her daughter Mistleheart. And she was right there when her four grandkits opened their eyes for the first time, learned to speak and walk, and started playing with each other. The four kits, now named Wrenkit, Lightkiy, Icekit, and Gustkit were her four beloved grandkits, her grandkits she will never meet because she was dead... But her love for them were immensely strong, like her daughter's love for them was. She can't wait to see what kind of warriors they will become, though she wished she could speak to them and they could see her... but nothing could change the fact she was dead and was a ghost following Mistleheart wherever she goes...
But at least she can watch over her, and her kits, until eventually they pass away... AND FINALLY then she will be able to reunite with her daughter Mistleheart, and her kits will be able to meet their grandmother. But that was a VERY LONG time away, and Lily wasn't ware that Clan cats went to StarClan, not wander as ghosts when they die... She has always believed StarClan as kit stories to comfort cats on the difficult topic of death. She definitely wasn't aware that StarClan cats could go to the living world temporality to watch over their loved oness. When the time comes, it will not be all gloom and heartbreak, as Lily will find out that StarClan cats CAN come to the living world and share tongues with ghosts like Lily, who don't believe in such an afterlife, like StarClan. SO she will be able to reunite with Mistleheart and meet her beloved grandkits one day after all... AND MAYBE... maybe one day she will be able to reunite with her beloved kittypet mate Dusty who was taken away from the barnyard by his Twolegs....
OOC: I can't believe I FINALY got this out! It has been very enjoyable to work on this, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing this! It is also very LONG and my roleplay responses are NEVER that long, lol XD
