Dappleswipe
Assessment with Bubblingstar, Haypaw, and Pondpaw
Feels safe with Haypaw around
Dappleswipe heaved as she climbed the slope leading out of camp, Frozenlaurel’s kits trotting ahead of her. The tortoiseshell kept pace with Bubblingstar, purposefully treading with each pawstep.
She reflected with gratitude on how well YewClan was thriving; Cinderpaw and Drizzlepaw’s ceremony was a few sunrises ago and were already learning fast. Taking after Stemriver, the deputy thought with a nostalgic purr. Thinking of her first apprentice, Dappleswipe set her gaze on Haypaw. It amazed her how a kitten scarred by an eagle attack would grow into an inquisitive young cat with a nature for curiosity.
Stemriver’s passing hit the clan hard, but the tortoiseshell found a sense of security in teaching Haypaw and valuing the gray she-cat’s insight. She wouldn't even mind if she kept the swirled tabby for another moon, but of course, that would be frivolous. Returning to the present, Dappleswipe found herself at the top of the ridge. Taking a breath of new-leaf air, she recited the task that would determine whether the apprentices had what it takes to graduate.
“Your mission is to collect quills from a porcupine without getting injured. Porcupines are strange creatures, but their spikes make excellent defenses for our barriers. Use your tracking skills and cunning to gather as much as you can. May the faith of StarClan go with you.”
A bittersweet sigh escaped her as Dappleswipe watched Haypaw and Pondpaw take off, powerless to help them. Hopefully YewClan would have two new warriors to boast at the next Gathering.

 Spottedfur : scent? | border patrol with Frozenlaurel & Slatefoot
Spottedfur was with Frozenlaurel and Slatefoot, checking one of their borders with PlumClan. He knew things were going to be hard on Slatefoot ever since Brightleaf's unexpected and tragic death– the warrior had lost her father and littermate in such a short amount of time. Spottedfur could only imagine how difficult it was, to continue duties and ignoring the grief. Nonetheless, the group had a patrol to complete and they all needed to be focused on it.
Whilst marking part of the PlumClan border, the grey speckled tom came to a halt. There was a distinct, strange scent lying before him. He lowered his nose to the forest floor despite the fog that covered it. Did some cat pass through our borders without us noticing? A rogue, maybe? he thought as he lifted his maw from the ground.
"Slatefoot, Frozenlaurel! I smell something suspicious," he announced to his patrolmates. "Come here. This scent is unfamiliar to me, but maybe you two will recognize it?"

 Stormmask : herb gathering with Shadepaw
For the first time in moons, Stormmask was finally able to gather herbs with Shadepaw, her apprentice. Yellowcough had plagued the tortoiseshell, but now she was healthy as ever before. Stormmask's troubles with grief were now lessened albeit hidden. As the two padded through the foggy forest, the dark grey tabby's gaze scoured the area for burdock. Its roots were quite important in Stormmask's opinion, considering it helped with treating rat bites, infected paws, sores, and even burns.
As she padded towards Rushing Creek, the medicine cat was confident that she and Shadepaw would find burdock. However, she didn't expect this much of the herb. Her copper eyes widened in surprise as she shared a look with her apprentice. "I don't think I have ever seen this much burdock in my life," she mewed quietly, her tail flicking back and forth with excitement. "Let's gather what we can!"

Stormmask : sorting herbs with Slatefoot
Stormmask was grateful for Slatefoot's assistance since she and Shadepaw had been lagging behind for the past few moons. Sickness and grief had slowed the medicine cats' den down which left it in disarray. Dead moss clung to the floor and decaying herbs were sitting in their storage as if they could be used. It was getting to be a bit… unkempt. As she sorted through some fresh herbs, Stormmask's ears twitched at the sound of Slatefoot's voice. She let out a snort before swiping her paw over the bitter scenting herb. "This one can be thrown out too," she told the warrior as she discarded the rotten, bitter herb.
Stormmask began to busy herself with the fresh herbs as she remembered she hadn't collected any on her own this moon. The dark tabby was slightly bothered by her own failure, but she knew she would bounce back from it. After all, she had planned a herb gathering patrol with Shadepaw later on. Once again, Slatefoot's voice caught her attention. She didn't mind letting warriors help though they seemed quite clueless when it came to herbs. In Stormmask's mind, it was obvious that Slatefoot was looking at burdock, not burnet. She grinned playfully at the warrior briefly before sniffing the herb that Slatefoot had. "Close, but that's burdock," she meowed, letting out a mrrow of amusement. "Burdock always has purple flowers and dark green leaves. It sort of looks like burnet though. I'm surprised that you almost got it right– you're much better at this than Spottedfur!"

Assigning cats to hunting patrols
Ignores Thrushfleck's questions
Dappleswipe pranced in front of the leader’s den. The morning mist covered the camp in a blurry gray, and she had to squint as she scanned the clearing. After placing Heavy, Hazelpelt, and Brightleaf to scout the borders (a decision that would unknowingly become a miserable loss) she washed her fur, giving deep thought on who should accompany her on the next patrol.
“Mistleheart”, she beckoned the young mentor with a twitch of her tail, “would you like to join a patrol with me and Haypaw? We’re hunting near Rushing Creek; it would be perfect for teaching Drizzlepaw how to catch fish.”
The deputy was vaguely aware of Cinderpaw’s mentor Thrushfleck stirring beside her. He was asking a number of questions, overwhelming the tortoiseshell deputy. Dappleswipe groaned; she didn't have time to answer them all right away. “Sorry, Thrushfleck. I’m going hunting. We’ll talk later, okay?” While she felt guilty leaving him behind, Dappleswipe was hasty to make sure her apprentice caught up on their training.

HAZELPELT - Patrol with Heavy & Brightleaf As days went, Hazelpelt thought this one was going pretty well! While she had experienced fog before, it'd never been this thick before. She could barely see more than few tail-lengths and the scent of moisture drowned out the otherwise rich forest. Despite it all, Heavy at least seemed to know where she was going; and Hazel was more than happy to follow the calico molly's lead. Brightleaf was also around...somewhere. Truth be told, they'd never gotten along very well. It seemed no matter what Hazelpelt tried, she could never earn the other warrior's approval. Heavy at least acted as a mediating presence, which she was eternally grateful for. Bumbling around the fog had lost its appeal a few minutes after they left camp, the quicker they could get back, the better. A familiar ear-splitting screech broke the patrol's tentative peace. Heavy barely paused as she sped off to follow the sound, though Hazel paused a moment to glance around. Where had Brightleaf gone? " Heavy what-" Hazelpelt stuttered into silence as she stumbled to a stop in the molly's wake. Eyes going wide as she caught sight of the massive creature lumbering off into the distance. What was that? Her head snapped to check on Heavy; only to do a double take. Oh stars, Brightleaf? Was that- blood? She'd never seen...oh stars. Everything had been fine just a moment ago, how could it have gone this wrong? |

Cat's name: Shadepatch Description: Shadepatch is a is a short-haired black and cream tortie she-cat with a heart shaped dash on her chest. Her eyes are round and yellow-green. She is playful and energetic, and she fits into her clan as if she had always been there, even though she originally came from Burdockclan. She loves caring for her patients, and is quite a careful listener. - cometchaosI understand that my cats will eventually die during the course of the game. (Was NOT expecting Shade x Thrush this moon but it's a very welcome surprise!! Although I was hoping for Mistle x Thrush... But they're already so cute together how can I say no!
And my, this is a very eventful moon! Lots of fun things happening. If they aren't claimed in two days, I'd like to take one of the apprentices. I want to give me some time to work on Dappleswipe's prompts- if I have enough motivation they could be finished today!)

Heavy was on a mission. She was on a mission so great that not even the grief for her recently slaughtered daughter could stop her.
The calico molly craned her head upward, jaws parting. She drew in the scents of the air around her. After last moon’s fatal encounter, Heavy would never forget the stench of wolverine. It was etched into her brain just as the metallic tang of her daughter’s blood was. Brightleaf’s final cry echoed in the senior warrior’s mind, a harsh reminder of what she had lost a moon prior. Heavy wasn’t going to let that wolverine take another Clanmate of hers. She would lay down her life first before ever letting that happen. Thrushfleck, his new mate Shadepatch, Slatefoot, Mistleheart, Drizzlepaw, Cinderpaw… They were all too important to her. Heavy’s eyes glanced across the three cats she had at her side. Spottedfur, Scarletdrift, Pondspeckle… She’d see to it that the wolverine never messed with a tuft of fur on their pelts.
Typically when with warriors older than herself, Heavy would defer to them and wait on their orders, but getting rid of this wolverine threat was personal to Heavy. This was something she had to do, something she had to tend to herself. ”Scarletdrift, help me gather branches to cover this path. Spottedfur, can you and Pondspeckle do the same up ahead? If the wolverine is still around we’ll know if the branches are snapped later.” With a flick of her tail she motioned for Scarletdrift to follow her into the woodland thicket. While Heavy was serious about seeing that this threat was eradicated, she had chosen Scarletdrift to help alongside her for a reason. She wasn’t interested in speaking of it aloud at the moment, but she wanted the ginger and white tom to understand that she harbored no harsh feelings toward him. Sure, she had been flabbergasted and upset with him when he had confessed his feelings for her just a moon after Stemriver’s passing, but after having time to grieve and pushing herself out of the despair she had been in, she had come to realize that Scarletdrift had not meant any harm. She may not harbor any romance toward the tomcat, but she still respected and appreciated him. The last season or so had been hard for Slatefoot. She wasn’t one to admit the heaviness that weighed in her heart, but Stemriver being taken by a snake and then Brightleaf being brought down by a wolverine lay atop the dark molly like a gathering storm cloud. It felt as if every moon she was losing another part of her family. She was starting to wonder if StarClan was punishing her family for some reason. Were they upset that Heavy didn’t believe in them? Were they upset that Slatefoot had forgotten to thank them for a squirrel she had killed some moons prior? Whatever the case was, Slatefoot was starting to realize that life was short. Life was precious. Rather than curl up inside her nest and grieve for those she had lost, she wanted to get outside and live her life to the fullest. If tomorrow was her last day then she wanted to live today with a smile on her face.
Which was exactly why she had grabbed Mistleheart, wanting to bring her to a spot near the Rushing Creek she found to be beautiful. A spot that reminded her of Stemriver. A spot that reminded her of Brightleaf.
Perhaps it was due to the proximity of FlowerClan, the Clan her father had come from. Or perhaps it was due to just how clear the water was in that area. FlowerClan had always left a sour taste in Slatefoot’s mouth, especially after the war that had happened. A war that had been started due to her rash nature and incompetence to heed boundaries…
To say that Slatefoot was a little disappointed when Mistleheart asked to bring Drizzlepaw along was an understatement. Wanting to have Mistleheart all to herself, a large part of the young warrior wanted to tell her that Drizzlepaw could either stay in camp or tag along with another warrior for the day, but she held her tongue. It was selfish to deny Drizzlepaw a chance at being with his mentor, and Drizzlepaw was family to Slatefoot. They shared the same blood. Stemriver’s blood. Perhaps he would find solace in the border stream like Slatefoot did, and she couldn’t deny the young tom a chance to find out.
Perhaps this was why Bubblingstar had yet to grant her an apprentice. She allowed her heart to rule her decisions far too often. Slatefoot wondered if she was starting to mellow out with age or by the grief she had experienced, but either way, she was finding herself appreciating her former mentor’s choices more than she had before.
With Mistleheart and Drizzlepaw in tow, Slatefoot headed toward the creek. They could make a patrol out of this as well, have some fun with it. A relaxing patrol between all the chaos was never a bad thing.
Yet, before the trio could make it all the way to the creek a tangy, musty scent hit her nose. A low noise followed, odd and unsettling. It was faint, not quite all there, but it was enough to send a shiver down the warrior’s spine. Had this scent been what Spottedfur smelled the moon before? Slatefoot had made fun of him when she hadn’t located a scent after the tom’s warning, teasing him and his age, but had he actually scented something all along? Was this from the wolverine that had taken the life of her sister? Was it limbering through the bushes some fox-lengths away, creating the low, suspicious noise?
Not wanting to chance the lives of Mistleheart and Drizzlepaw, Slatefoot turned around. If that really was the wolverine then they needed more than just two warriors and an apprentice to face it head on. ”Let’s head back to camp,” she told her companions, the look on their faces silently telling Slatefoot that they had heard the noise as well. They were also on edge. ”We’ll report it to Bubblingstar and see what he thinks we need to do.” They could always come back to Rushing Creek another day, but they couldn’t get Mistleheart or Drizzlepaw back if the wolverine was around and decided to attack.
Without another word the rosette splashed warrior headed back to camp, alert and ready to act should danger be following them.

Do you wanna update the family tree with Pondspeckle & Haypaw's mother? I know in an earlier response I said that their mother's name was Sky, though idk if whispering agrees. Also, if Frozenlaurel or any of the cats aren't claimed by the time I get my second slot, I can take them |

lemonshortbread we actually do have a few spots! Just had an activity check and five cats opened up, three of which are still open: Mistleheart, Cinderpaw and Frozenlaurel. stormshade1 ya still got a few weeks of activity before you get an extra slot xp

(oh perfect! i'd love to take Cinderpaw  Cat's name: Cinderpaw Description: Cinderpaw is a sleek long-furred gray and white she-cat with rosette markings and strikingly bright and deep emerald eyes. While intelligent and rather nosy, Cinderpaw can be rough around the edges with a habit of being short-tempered and not privy to giving compliments - though, she's always willing to listen to new gossip. Her abrasiveness is a product of her desire to prove her loyalty to YewClan as a half-clan cat, feeling as though she has more to prove than her full YewClan born peers and would sooner be a kittypet than be seen as a treacherous half-clan cat. She is fiercely loyal to her clan as a whole but not necessarily on a personal level to each clan mate. Though, once someone does thaw her icy heart, she will defend them to her last breath. - lemonshortbread I understand that my cats will eventually die during the course of the game.
