Foxpaw - Training patrol with Slatefoot, Heavy, and Whorlpaw
Foxpaw followed her mentor, Slatefoot, and her deputy, Heavy out of camp. Her brother, Whorlpaw had close to her side. Heavy had recently been named the deputy of Yewclan, with Dapplestar taking her father's place as leader after he retired. Foxpaw wanted to be like him one day, Foxstar leader of Yewclan. Or at least a warrior. Foxpaw could felt as if they were so close! It turned out she was right, when they were told they were going to be assessed on their hunting and battle skills. Nerves pricked her belly, but she knew she could do this. "I'm so ready!" She said, bouncing on her paws. Off they went, alone to hunt. Whorlpaw went right while Foxpaw went left, she didn't want to run into him while they were out! And this way they both could catch the most prey they could.
After so much time spent hunting, Foxpaw was called back to where she had left Slatefoot and Heavy. She knew they must have been following her and Whorlpaw, to make sure they were safe and to see if their hunting technique was on point. Returning with a few pieces of prey, Foxpaw was slightly discouraged when she saw that Whorlpaw had caught more than she had. Would Blizzardkit have done better too, if she had been given the chance?
Next up was fighting, something Foxpaw hoped she would do better at. Foxpaw and Whorlpaw faced off against Slatefoot and Heavy. She knew she had to do well, because if she didn't, Whorlpaw might be made a warrior without her! Her grumpy brother! But Foxpaw felt confident. Slatefoot was one of the best fighters in the clan, and she had taught her well.
After the mock battle was done; all four cats were slightly winded but Foxpaw knew she had done well. Slatefoot had even complimented her! "Thank you Slatefoot!" She said, purring. Her and Whorlpaw could be warriors next moon! "Whorlpaw, you did so good during the hunting assment! We could be warriors next moon!" Foxpaw said, bouncing up and down on her paws. What would her name be? Foxswipe? Foxbelly? Foxburn? There were so many choices!

Drizzlemimic- Recently reported the scent of rogues in the territory/Is impressed with Hayfeather's resolve Drizzlemimic and Hayfeather were walking side by side on a border patrol. It had been a while since they got a chance to spend time together. Drizzlemimic liked silver sokoke warrior a lot. Ever since their argument a few moons ago, Drizzlemimic felt a lot of feelings for him. Feelings that were hard for him to describe. Feelings he felt for no other cat. He had questioned before if it was, in fact, love that he felt for Hayfeather. And with plenty of time to think about it, he ultimately decided that he did love Hayfeather. With his own feelings deciphered, he just had to figure out how Hayfeather felt about him. ”Sooooo… how have you been..? Things have been pretty crazy in the clan lately, right? First Hopbramble joins with her litter a couple moons ago that has 2 male torties, then Bubblingstar retires, then Shadepatch announces she has kits and then Scarletdrift brings back a kit too! It sure is an exciting time to live in YewClan.” Drizzlemimic wasn’t exactly sure how he sounded; he was usually pretty good at talking to others, but now he was anxious and tripping over his words. He wasn’t sure Hayfeather noticed. “It’s good to spend time with you again” he confessed. The pair continued talking until Drizzlemimic picked up a scent in the air. Not again, he thought to himself. But it wasn’t a dog smell this time. It was a cat smell. A cat smell that didn’t belong to any clan. “Do you smell that? It kinda seems like… rogues!” This time he wouldn’t separate from the patrol again. Dawnkit- Is begging Foxpaw and Mistleheart to teach him how to stalk a mouse Dawnkit was sitting quietly in the nursery, like he usually did. His sister, Petalkit, was recently diagnosed with nearsightedness. He felt bad for her. Everyone deserved to see the beauty of the forest from close up and from afar. How could I make it up to her? I know! I’ll catch her a mouse! Prey tasted better when you were close to the cat who caught it anyway. He was gonna cheer up his sister! The only problem was, he didn’t know how to hunt yet. He was just a little kit after all. Usually he would ask his mother, but recently she’s been going on patrols with the clan. Now was one of said times. But Dawnkit couldn’t just wait for her to come back. So he was going to find someone else to ask. He hadn’t left the nursery since his incident with Drizzlemimic. Dawnkit was hesitant, looking around to see if anyone was there. With a quick hop, he left his enclosure and started searching for an early mentor. It didn’t take long for Dawnkit to find two cats in the camp clearing. One was a young ginger molly with white patches who he knew the name of, Foxpaw, and the other one was a mostly white molly with a few grey patches. Her name was on the tip of Dawnkit’s tongue. M-mistleheart? Yea, that was it! Cautiously, he approached the two. “Oh, um, I was wondering if either of you could teach me how to stalk a mouse… So I could get one for Petalkit…” he meowed shyly. Coppersplash Coppersplash’s ears flattened at the sound of Drizzlemimic’s warning. Rogues? She’d never had to deal with a gang of rogues before! But this wasn’t training anymore, she would have to stand up for her new clan like a true warrior. With Bubblingstar retiring, YewClan must prove that it can stand up to any threat! And so do I… she thought. She looked to Mistleheart and Thrushfleck in the front and Hayfeather in the rear. All of the older warriors seemed prepared, sweeping the forest for the scent of the rogues. Suddenly Coppersplash caught the darting of a dark tail over the rise. A cat! She jumped onto a rock, unsheathing her claws. “There! Right over that hill!” She yowled, pointing her tail in the direction of the cat just in time. Only a few more seconds and they would be upon them! With a fierce screech, she leapt into battle. “This is YewClan territory! It’s no place for rogues like you!”Tagging: Sapphirejas (As Mistleheart), grimmreminder (As Thrushfleck) and whispering (As Hayfeather) ((OOC: First post!!! I hope this works))

Spottedfur : gets heat exhaustion & lets Scarletdrift vent to him] With Bubblingstar, well Bubblingheart among him and Scarletdrift, Spottedfur felt like a young warrior all over again. The trio were like the three musketeers until he got heat exhausted of course.
While inside the elders’ den to avoid the sun, he noticed that Scarletdrift wasn’t too far away. Curiousity filled his thoughts about Puddlekit— where had Scarletdrift found the little one? He would respect his denmate’s privacy though creating a bit of conversation couldn’t hurt. “Hey, Scarletdrift!” he called out in a raspy voice. “How are things?”

Stormmask : Blackberries - alone, thinks Whorlpaw is impolite & wonders about how Heavy is handling her new responsibilities While traipsing underneath the light canopy of YewClan’s forest, Stormmask had already collected some raspberries. She needed blackberries next, which was difficult to gather. Instead of risking a warrior’s paws, she chose to gather herbs alone. It had only been less than one moon since Bubblingstar’s retirement which wasn’t too shocking to the medicine cat. She did miss his presence though, but it was better for his health to retire among Spottedfur and Scarletdrift. The constant injuries at his old age were risky for the former leader.
Speaking of leaders, Dapplestar’s choice for a deputy had left Stormmask in awe. Heavy deserved to be deputy as she had worked very, very hard since joining YewClan. She wondered how she was handling the new responsibilities of as deputy. Hopefully the calico would learn the ways of her new role. It also reminded her to mention a little something to Heavy about Whorlpaw. She had noticed that the young tom had been very impolite recently and wondered if the new deputy could combat it.
As she stumbled upon a small blackberry shrub, thick with berries and thorns alike. She carefully picked the leaves from the bush, avoiding the thorns. She was quite prudent when it came to picking off the blackberries themselves, wrapping them gingerly in the blackberry leaves. Once she had gathered enough, Stormmask let out a long exhale— the heat was beating down on her dark pelt. She picked up the herbs and was about halfway to camp when she noticed a freshly bloomed mullein plant. Its radiant yellow flowers and stem were quite helpful. Without any other cat around, she set the blackberry down to remove a stem of mullein along with its flowers and leaves. Stormmask shoved the blackberry into her jaws on one side and the mullein in the other.
Not long after, she made her way into camp and slipped into the medicine cat’s den. She had a long evening of work ahead of her.

frozenlaurel sucks up to the new leadership thinks Heavy will make a good deputy heals from his broken leg with a scar ★ It was a certain kind of bliss to dip into a full stretch without worrying about jostling his injured leg. Six moons--half a year--he'd spent limping around with his leg bound, and finally, finally he was free to move around like he wanted to. Only a small scar marked the location of the wound: a pale pink patch of skin where no fur grows, midway up his front left leg.
It matched the pair of scars on his tail quite nicely, he thought.
Frozenlaurel hopped around camp. The bright green-leaf sun rejuvenated the grey tomcat, and it was only because the healer's den was full of cats suffering from heat exhaustion that kept him from zooming around like one of Hopbramble's kits. He'd like to think his pride also held him back but... no, if it wasn't for the threat of landing back in the healer's den, he'd be shamelessly begging for a game of moss-ball by now.
He needed to leave camp. For a few moments, he debated going it alone. Frozenlaurel was a full warrior of YewClan--one of the most senior warriors--and he didn't need to ask permission to leave camp. He could go for a walk, a run, perhaps a swim? But he could also use this energy for YewClan: with so many cats resting from the heat, they probably needed volunteers for extra hunting patrols anyways.
So Frozenlaurel made his way to the leader's den. No longer Bubblingstar's, it was now Dapplestar who slept under the stone and tree root that curved over the small niche against the ridge side. But when he arrived, the dark molly wasn't there. Instead, he found Heavy.
A season cycle ago, Frozenlaurel would have dismissed Heavy as a possible candidate for deputyship. She had the experience, yes, but she'd lacked the confidence needed for the position. But something had happened to the molly this leaf-bare: while he and Bubblingstar were injured, Heavy's insecurities had fallen away to reveal an ambition that rivaled Frozenlaurel's own.
While Frozenlaurel was a little sour she'd been chosen over him for the position, he couldn't argue that Heavy didn't deserve it. Having seen the calico's transformation himself, he could understand Dapplestar's decision. If he was in her paws, he'd have made the same choice.
He waved to Heavy as he approached, and though he tried to be serious, couldn't keep the spring from his step. Let them think him kit-like--his joy was infectious and shouldn't be contained. "Hey, Heavy! How's deputyship treating you? I should have known you'd try to adopt the whole Clan if given the chance, eh?" he said with a grin, his whiskers twitching.
"I just wanted to let you know that I'm available to lead any patrols you need filled. I'm totally healed!" Frozenlaurel bent down on his injured leg then sprung up again, to prove his point. "So please don't treat me like an elder. Seriously, just say the word and I'm there." ★ Feathertalon Heavy is so Good Also his broken leg is on the front left, despite the sprite. They only have one broken bone scar smh ★

Cinderdapple YewClan Camp | w/ Pondkit, Coppersplash asrise Gets heat exhaustion Nods to Shadepatch in passing Watches Puddlekit with Coppersplash
Cinderdapple couldn't stand the overcrowded healer's den, and she felt incredibly useless being tucked away in there, even if she knew it was for her own good. Her headache and nausea had yet to fade, it was her own carelessness of staying out too long hunting that got her into trouble. If only she paid better attention to her own body than that of the mice she had been hunting, maybe then she'd be ready for patrols under Heavy's new deputyship. Cinderdapple almost felt her jaw drop when Dapplestar had named Heavy the new deputy, but in a good way. She had grown more confident as the seasons went on, pulling herself out of a rut of grief and insecurity that riddled the calico molly for no good reason. Cinderdapple wished her adoptive mother a long and happy deputyship before retirement.
YewClan had gone through so much change just the last few moons, with seven new clanmates and now Shadepatch and Thrushfleck giving YewClan even more there was much to be thankful for. With so many tiny new clanmates running around though, maybe Cinderdapple could be a little more productive by helping watch over them. She got to her paws shakily, and once her eyes adjusted to the sunlight, finding a shaded spot on the edge of camp to keep herself cool. She would only be left out of warrior duties longer if she didn't take some precautions. Once the gray and white molly got comfortable, she gazed across camp at the nursery, watching a swarm of kits stampede through it's entrance while Shadepatch walked by. They made eye contact briefly and Cinderdapple nodded a greeting to her. She could understand why some queen's would choose to go to the nursery right away, but Cinderdapple hated being cooped in a den all day any longer than she had to be. All the more reason to not take a mate. The speckled molly thought to herself, tail flicking as if trying to shoo the idea away.
No wonder Hopbramble took the opportunity to leave camp for a couple patrols as soon as her kits were starting to wean off of her milk - poor thing needed a break from the clan of kits within YewClan. As if five weren't enough for one molly, Scarletdrift came back with tiny Puddlekit, and he wasn't going to be nursing anytime soon, and with Hopbramble the only nursing queen in camp, she had six kits to look after now - it was no wonder she ate more than anyone else in camp. As the older kits began playing with one another, little Puddlekit waddled along behind them, churning his stubby legs as fast they could go but the other kits had left him behind in their excitement for a game of moss ball. The poor thing looked dejected, Cinderdapple couldn't just let him be. She tilted her head slightly and beckoned him with her fluffy tail, "Hey, Puddlekit! I bet you can't catch my tail." Her whiskers twitched with a mrrow of amusement. She turned her owl-masked face to a gray and orange pelt out of the corner of her emerald eyes - hopefully Copperspalsh wouldn't mind being voluntold to join in. She flashed a guilty, apologetic look at the younger warrior, "I also heard Coppersplash gives the best badger rides!"

Heavy »
Fate was cruel. How often did it toy with the heart of a warrior, giving them what they wanted only to tear them down in some other way? Heavy had known fate to play twisted games on her multiple times throughout her life, but this time she was watching fate’s cruelty unravel onto another cat. Poor Dapplestar, she silently whispered into the void of her mind. Made leader only a few nights ago and now she had been struck down by the sun’s light.
Fate was cruel. Heavy had learned that many a time over in her life. She hated watching another cat learn that lesson.
With Dapplestar in recovery it was Heavy’s newfound duty to take over and lead the Clan where was needed. YewClan’s new leader needed to rest so that she may lead her Clan well once she had recovered, and until that time came Heavy vowed to do the best she could as deputy. She had no plans of stepping out of line, but she knew it was her responsibility to keep the Clan running while her leader rested.
It was this exact thought process that had Heavy heading toward Dapplestar’s den, curious to see if the tortoiseshell molly had returned to her nest or yet remained within the medicine cat den. Heavy knew Dapplestar needed rest, but she wanted to go over the ideas she had for patrols with the leader - if Dapplestar was feeling up to it, that was.
Yet it wasn’t her leader’s voice that she was met with. Instead, as she turned, she came face to face with a light gray tabby tom, excitement springing in his steps that no longer trembled with a painful limp. Fluidity graced his posture, joy dancing in his amber eyes. It was the posture of a cat post-healing. The stance of a warrior no longer hindered by bones shuddering with weakness upon each step. Heavy knew exactly how freeing it felt to no longer be trapped by one’s own body.
The calico dipped her head in greeting, smiling warmly toward Frozenlaurel. ”Being deputy is still something I’m learning, but I believe I’ll have it all down in a moon or so.” Shock still snaked down her spine at the thought of being Clan deputy. Just a few seasons ago she would have thought it impossible, wouldn’t have believed enough in herself to hold down the job, but something had changed within her the last few moons. Old insecurities had washed away and allowed for a newfound ambition to pulse through her veins. Ambition that she had not felt since her loner days. Ambition that had died when she herself had been crumpled to nothing more than a motionless sack of injured feline among a new group of cats who called themselves YewClan. But now this group of cats known as YewClan had become her family. Frozenlaurel’s words rang true - she’d adopt the whole Clan if given the chance. From her own kits to Thrushfleck’s upcoming litter, her blood ran strong among YewClan’s ranks. Not only that but she had raised Mistleheart, Drizzlemimic, and Cinderdapple without question, and in a way she felt responsible for Coppersplash, wanting to protect the young molly the moment she had come upon her on the border some moons ago. She had connected herself to over half the Clan it seemed. Had created a legacy all her own. She no longer felt out of place among YewClan’s ranks.
Frozenlaurel’s excitement about his healed bone reminded Heavy all too well of when she had finally healed her own broken bone. She remembered how happy she had been, how that one miracle had almost - almost - made her believe in StarClan. And she knew how desperate Frozenlaurel must feel now, how eager he was to get out there and prove that he wasn’t useless to the Clan.
Heavy rested her tail over the tom’s shoulders, a knowing look crossing her visage. ”You have my promise I won’t treat you like an elder. Before you joined the Clan I also had to mend a broken bone. It took seasons to heal…I almost thought I never would heal…” Mistiness clouded the senior cat’s gaze as she fell back into all those seasons ago where camp was the only part of YewClan territory she knew. Back to all those seasons ago when she had been certain that camp would be the only thing she would ever know. A sigh escaped her as she rolled her shoulders, returning back to the present. ”I’d like to run it over with Dapplestar first, but I see no reason for why you can’t lead a patrol. Perhaps you can take Hayfeather, Coppersplash, and Thrushfleck on a hunting patrol,” she suggested warmly before stepping away from the tomcat, swishing her tail back from his shoulder blades.
It had been the idea of patrols that had her seeking the guidance of Dapplestar. As new as she was to the role of deputy, she wanted to make sure her ideas for future patrols made sense. A hunting patrol consisting of Frozenlaurel, Hayfeather, Coppersplash, and Thrushfleck sounded fine and dandy to her. And, she pondered, a border patrol with Mistleheart, Hopbramble, Slatefoot, and Foxpaw should do the trick as well. That still left a good amount of cats to assign patrols to as well, but for now she’d worry about her first two ideas and any others later.
Focusing back on Frozenlaurel she motioned to leave, wanting to check to see if Dapplestar was in the medicine cat den. Before padding away she turned back to Frozenlaurel. ”I’ll speak with Dapplestar about patrols, but I don’t see her disagreeing with letting you lead one.” With that she made her way to Stormmask’s den where she peered her head in, softly calling out, ”Dapplestar?”

ooc;; i'll wait on the actual retirement/ceremony itself for lazzy's post! BUBBLINGHEART - Enjoying retirement! It had been ages since he had heard his former name, but it had also been ages since he wasn't leader! Bubblingheart, he tossed the name around his head, relishing in the sound of each syllable. That was he was blessed to live long enough to be called that again... Bubbling heart couldn't wish for more. With his schedule finally clear, he could focus on what really mattered! Sunbathing and terrorizing his kits. Whorlpaw and Foxpaw were nearly warriors, but Bubblingheart was determined to make up for lost time. He'd take whatever steps he needed to be the attentive father leadership had never let him truly be. His heart ached. If he'd retired a little earlier, would Blizzardkit still- he shook head with a sigh. No use ruminating. He curled tighter in on himself, nuzzling into his new nest. Stars, when was the last time he'd slept in a den with other cats? Scarletdrift and Spottedfur's light snores were familiar, a balm Bubblingheart hadn't realized he needed. There had been time, a long, long time ago when they had shared the warrior's den together. It was a bit like settling into a well-scraped out hollow, listening to the way Spottedfur grumbled in his dreams and Scarletdrift paws kicked. He wondered if Dapplestar would feel the same in due time.

Coppersplash “Uh-” Coppersplash interjected as Cinderdapple volunteered her for a badger ride. She was still sore from her earlier fight with the rogues and was trying to rest by herself, but was well enough to be out and about. About to refuse, she stopped short when she saw Puddlekit waddle toward her, tail whipping about as he let out a joyful mew. I can’t say no now! She thought.
Her face grew hot as she felt selfish for wanting to refuse. After all, Cinderdapple wasn’t well enough to take care of Puddlekit by herself. “...Yes, that’s right!” She meowed as brightly as she could. “I give fantastic badger rides!” Quickly, Puddlekit clambered onto her back, and Coppersplash lumbered around heavily, growling dramatically. Puddlekit giggled, his tiny little claws pricking into her back while he rode around camp.
She winced as Puddlekit poked and prodded at her, only making her sores worse. “Yowch!! Stop that, you little-” Coppersplash paused as Puddlekit fell off and began to blubber. Oh, stars above, now I’ve done it… “Are you okay? Oh no… I’m sorry…” She pushed her nose closer to comfort him, but he let out a piercing wail that made her ears flatten instead. She looked at Cinderdapple helplessly. Can she calm him down? At this rate, I’ll never be a proper mother…

Shadepatch - Moves into the nursery (kinda)-Shadepatch was pretty happy. She had announced that she was expecting kits earlier that day and had decided to move into the nursery a bit earlier than most. There was another new cat in the nursery too, Puddlekit, who Scarletdrift had brought back to camp a few days earlier. The nursery was quite crowded at the moment, with Puddlekit and Hopbrambles' kits, though Shadepatch was ok with that fact at the moment. frozenlaurel patrol - Drizzlemimic, Hopbramble thinks Drizzlemimic is going above and beyond (+) ★ Of course they'd hunt in the creek. For one, Frozenlaurel missed fishing almost more than he missed having a good leg, but it was also a logical place to be with the oppressive heat that struck down so many of YewClan's warriors. They could hunt and stay cool at the same time!
Frozenlaurel led the way, already having picked a prime spot for their fishing adventure. Behind him was Drizzlemimic and, surprisingly, the once-loner Hopbramble. Her kits were old enough to be left alone for short periods now, and it wasn't like they didn't have plenty of cats willing to watch over them while she was out.
They reached the creekside quickly. It wasn't very far from camp, all things considered, which is partly why it was Frozenlaurel's favorite spot to fish: he could slip down here between tasks without having to dedicate a full part of his day to do so.
"Alright," he said with a firm nod, turning to the patrol once his paws dipped into the sand. With the heat, the creek had shrunk somewhat, leaving more of its banks open than usual. A tail-length of bare sand and pebbles made a beach where the creekbed was exposed. "There should be plenty of fish running upstream at this time a year. Let's get to it!" ★ chocolatemilk7 lemonshortbread Also Hop can TOTALLY start a fight with Frozenlaurel if ya want to throw that in here~ He could use a good spat (; ★

|| Thrushfleck - Rogue Ambush - /w: Mistleheart, Coppersplash, Hayfeather [ Sapphirejas whispering asrise ] ||Thrushfleck was weary for most of this trip, Drizzlemimic had made mention of rogues. With Shadepatch expecting, one could never be too careful could they? Though it may have been uncharacteristic of him, he remained silent for most of the trip. Though of course, he still kept some form of pep in his step as he padded onwards. It was relief that washed over him first when Coppersplash called out about the rogues, being the first to spot them. Relief that he had Coppersplash there, a warrior he could certainly say was a talented clanmate. " Got it, I'll take 'em from the sides. "With a fierce screech, Coppersplash had launched herself at the hill and Thrushfleck pushed himself into motion as well. He turned tail darting to the side of the group, letting Coppersplash face them head on as he rounded on them from the side. Claws unsheathed at the battle that raged on as he crashed into the side of burnt orange colored pelt of a rogue. " Think you could get the jump on us, 'ey? " || Thrushfleck - Joking with Amberkit and helping Shadepatch move - /w: Amberkit, Shadepatch [ cometchaos ] ||" And that little one- is how the purrpertrator got away with his grand scheme! " Thrushfleck purred out to the kit as he settled amongst the admittedly cramped nests of the nursery. He had begun to spin a grand tale with jokes throughout as he entertained any kits willing to listen to his voice. He knew they were likely curious about his role in helping his mate adjust to her temporary life in the nursery, after all, and it wouldn't hurt to get some practice in for his own bundles of fur to be born. He settled close to Shadepatch, allowing his tail to curl around her protectively. There was a lot happening for him to be filled with joy. Kits of his own.. his mother being granted deputyship. How could he not be beaming from ear to ear? " What do you think Shadepatch? You think the mighty Amberkit might have been able to stop him in time? "

|| Petalkit - Growling at others /w: Slatefoot, Maplekit [ Feathertalon ] [ Also maybe works for helping figure out her nearsightedness? ] ||
The little kit laid low in her nest of moss and leaves, the tortie female watching the entrance careful. The blur of black and white movement that broke through the entrance started a low growl out of the girl as she pressed herself closer to the ground. Unable to make out the details, at least right away, of who it was. The hiss that followed racked her little chest into the smallest of coughs. Throat unused to such a noise escaping her. " Be warned! I'll... I'll run and get my mom! " she huffed out with as much ferocity as she managed, only calmed as Slatefoot drew nearer and the familiar scent of Yewclan could calm her frayed nerves. " I thought you were one of the scary rogues! I heard cats whispering about them. " she mumbled in embarrassment to her defense. Her little ears pricked up as she sat up in the nest at the mention of a secret. " Really? You'll tell me a secret? " she whispered out, her eyes wide in amazement and childlike wonder. The low and menacing growl that left Slatefoot's throat was impressive to the little child who hopped to her own feet. Though with how fuzzy her pelt already was, it probably looked as if she would dash from fear at any moment. Instead though, her little face scrunched in focus as she attempted to mimic the maneuver. Tongue in the back of her throat..? She wasn't really sure she understood, but she had the right spirit at least. The first attempt only resulting in some awkward wheezed 'rrrrr'.

Hopbramble Rushing Creek | w/ Frozenlaurel & Drizzlemimic Brownie , chocolatemilk7 Hunting patrol Recovered from having kits Started a fight with a Clanmate Hissed at Thrushfleck Cleared up a misunderstanding with Whorlpaw
The low buzzing of bugs zipping around overhead added to just how hot today felt. Greenleaf was wonderful in the fact that prey was still rich, but normally Hopbramble wouldn't be caught outside except from late in the evening to early in the morning. So how did anyone convince her to leave the nursery at this time of day? Well, Hopbramble supposed she had no one to blame but herself.
While she was feeling anxious from sitting in camp for three moons, it was nice not being expected to do anything but recover from birthing such a large litter. Hopbramble had finally felt well enough to explore YewClan's territory a bit, slipping out of camp at night hoping to get a few moments alone. Often she hunted on these outings by herself - what was one mouse? YewClan cats went out in entire patrols anyhow for food. About a quarter moon ago though, Whorlpaw had caught Hopbramble sneaking back in to camp - the queen had lied of course about what she was doing, hoping to clear up any sort of misunderstanding by saying she would stretch out her muscles and work on her strength again, but now that someone knew she could be out and about, the dark molly realized she would have to go out with these patrols occasionally now to at least contribute something. It wouldn't be a good look to continue taking and not give back. While it wouldn't have been a problem for Hop to move on when she got bored, she was Hopbramble now, and he kits had -kit suffixes, they needed her to keep in good graces with at least their new leader, Dapplestar.
While she dreaded going out in the heat, it was good that Frozenlaurel had called her for a patrol when he did. Thrushfleck was helping Shadepatch move into the nursery, which was just what she needed of course more cats in the nursery to bother her, As if Puddlekit wasn't enough for them to dump in that den and onto me to nurse! Hopbramble thought crossly to herself, flicking her tail tip in annoyance. She had hissed at the ginger warrior for disturbing her nap by trying to tell Amberkit ridiculous stories and jokes, can't a queen get any peace? Again, it didn't matter anyway, she was out now with Drizzlemimic and Frozenlaurel. They seemed fine enough she supposed, but time would tell.
"Let's get to it!" Frozenlaurel commanded - so time just told. Hopbramble didn't care to take orders from anyone other than a distinct leader. Frozenlaurel was just some guy, what authority did he have over her? She rolled her icy blue eyes and quickly darted past the two toms and into the stream until just the top of her spine and shoulder blades were visible. At least the water felt nice, she did miss swimming. It was a useful skill, not one many cats cared to know, hence why she was probably still alive and not under some angry rogue's claws. As far as fishing went though, she wasn't bad per se, but since it was far from her favorite meal, the dark molly didn't fish often. She supposed she could bring back one or two though, that seemed manageable.
While Frozenlaurel focused on a rather delicious looking fish, Hopbramble wanted to take the opportunity to beat him to it. She cackled silently to herself before darting forward, with paws swifter than a monster on a thunderpath and hooked the fish Frozenlaurel had so patiently been waiting for. The queen brought it to her jaws and gave it a swift killing bite before tossing it onto the shore. "You should have 'gotten to it.'" Hopbramble stared at him through narrowed blue eyes, a malicious gleam to them.
[OOC: hope this wasn't controlling frozen too much, i was just trying to think of the most hopbramble thing she'd do lol]

grimmreminder asrise whispering Mistleheart (Rogue attack with Thrushfleck, Coppersplash, and Hayfeather) Mistleheart's ears were on alert on this border patrol. Hayfeather mentioned to her and the rest of the patrol that Drizzlemimic scented rogues on YewClan's territory. Greenleaf has begun and it was very hot. With every step on the burning ground, Mistleheart's legs trembled at the thought of what was going to happen next. Like Thrushfleck, she remained silent on the trip, nervous of what will enfold. The scent of rogues grew stronger and stronger as Mistleheart stepped deeper into YewClan's territory. As the patol approached the hill, Coppersplash let out a yowl, saying that there were rogues right over the hill! Mistleheart paced herself, getting ready for battle. She was willing to risk her life to protect her Clanmates. It was part of the Warrior Code after all! She could see cats on the top of the hill. They looked skinny, as they haven't eaten for a while. She heard Thrushfleck saying that he will take them by the sides. " There they are!" Mistleheart shouted. " Warriors, lets battle!" She commanded the warriors into battle. Mistleheart broke in a run, along the other cats. Her apprentice training allowed the fluffy white warrior to run really fast, like the other cats beside her. The rogues were caught unawares, due to the speed of cats running up the hill! Mistleheart bit into the neck of the most musucular and healthy-looking tom. She knew she was the oldest of the patrol, so she wanted to take down what seemed like the leader of the rogues. But as the tom's movements start to grow weaker, she let go. She knew she mustn't kill him, as killing another cat was dishonorable and against the warrior code. The tom staggered and growled at Mistleheart " How dare you?!" He lioked at the other cats of the patrol. All of the other rogues were defeated, taken down by the other warriors on the partol. Coppersplash stepped in and screeched. She was recently renamed by Dappleswipe by her request, from Oatburn into Coppersplash. Mistleheart thought it was because she didn't like her warrior name. Mistleheart couldn't blame her, it was terrible to say the least... " This is YewClan's territory!" the young warrior screeched " It's no place for rogues like you!" What a brave she-cat! She was only just made a warrior, and she is already showing her STRONG LOYALITY to YewClan! The rogues fled with those words by the young fierce she-cat. " We won! Well done everyone! Hopefully these flea-brains won't ever invade our territory again!" Meowed Mistleheart with her fluffy tail up high. " You all fought SO well!" lemonshortbread Feathertalon Mistleheart ( Is giving advice to Slatefoot, and said something rude to Hopbramble -) This moon has been eventful, Bubblingstar has finally decided to retire, letting his deputy Dappleswipe to become leader. She recieved her nine lives from StarClan. However, Mistleheart can't pretend she wasn't disapointed when Heavy was chosen as deputy instead of her. Despite liking Heavy, the fluffy white warrior was REALLY hoping Dapplestar would choose her as her deputy. Not only she was younger, she thought she was more loyal to the Warrior Code than anycat! Not to mention, Heavy haven't mentored an apprentice, she shouldn't be able to become deputy! Did Dapplestar deliberatly chose to break the Warrior Code to make her as deputy, or was it a mistake?! Mistleheart started fuming! Mistleheart knew Heavy was quite old, so she thought she wouldn't be deputy for that long before a new one was made. Suddenly, Mistleheart's heart leapt. If Heavy won't be deputy for that long because she will retire one day, then the deputy slot will open once more, and that means... Dapplestar will choose her as deputy! All she needed to do is show Dapplestar her strong loyality to YewClan and show her leadership skills! Even if Slatefoot was chosen as deputy instead her, she would be really happy for her best friend, as it was her dream to become a deputy! Anyone but cats who haven't mentored apprentices! When Mistleheart heard the news that one of Heavy's kits, Thrushfleck was having kits with Shadepatch, she was really happy! A new generation would be born into the Clan, finally a generation that is clan born, and not born to Code breakers. She was furious when she learnt that one of the elders, Scarletdrift brought back an OUTSIDER kit, Puddlekit into the Clan! The Clan needed anything but kits born to cats outside of YewClan! And, HOW DARE Scarletdrift fell in love with a cat outside the Clan and deliberatly break the code?! He was showing DISLOYALITY to the Clan he was BORN IN! Mistleheart finished grooming and went to share tongues with best friend, Slatefoot. " Hello Slatefoot. How are you today? I wanted to give you advice on how to improve your leadership skills, and make it more likely that Dapplestar choose you as deputy once Heavy retires. I believe she was wrongly made deputy because she haven't mentored an apprentice. " Mistleheart mewed. She spent a few hours with Slatefoot, sharing her knowledge on leadership skills to Slatefoot, hoping that it will help her achieve her dreams. Feathertalon Dew Mistleheart (Hunting assessment with Slatefoot, Whorlpaw and Foxpaw, and had a great chat with Foxpaw +) Mistleheart purred as she headed out into the sunny forest with her best friend, Slatefoot, and the two apprentices, Whorlpaw and Foxpaw. She and Slatefoot are assessing them on their warrior skills. She have her differences with Whorlpaw due to his disloyality to the Warrior Code, but she was proud that the apprentices were close to become warriors. She wasn't Whorlpaw's mentor, but Hazelpelt was exhausted from the heat and was currently recovering in the Healer's den. She heard Foxpaw saying that she was so ready. She better beThe white furred warrior supervised the two apprentices as they were assessed on their hunting skills. Hunting skills was first, and then battle skills. She watched as the two apprentices hunted. And Whorlpaw returned back to her and Slatefoot with more prey than his sister, Foxpaw. Whorlpaw carrried a HUGE amount a prey back, and despite her not getting along with him very well, she felt very proud for the young tom. " Well done Whorlpaw!" Mewed Mistleheart " I can proudly say that you passed on the hunting section of warrior skills!" After that, Whorlpaw did considerably worse in the fighting section of the Warrior's assement. This time, his sister Foxpaw bested him in her skills as fighter, tapping him in the shoulder of the fight with her paw. " Don't worry Whorlpaw" Mistleheart comforted the apprentice " You did your best!" Feathertalon Dew Whorlpaw ( Asks Thrushfleck for hunting tricks, and hunting assessment with Mistleheart, Slatefoot, and Foxpaw) Whorlpaw was really nervous for his warrior's assessment. He knew it wasn't long until he was made a warrior! Whorlclaw, Whorlbuzz, Whorlchasm, what will it be?!But he really wanted to do well in this assessment, as it will determine whether he will be a GREAT warrior in YewClan. He followed Mistleheart and Slatefoot through the forest, staying close to his sister, Foxpaw. He listened to her saying that she was so ready. " Me too!" He mewed " Just watch me beat you in BOTH the hunting and fighting portions of the assessment!" He teased his sister. When the assessment began, and the hunting section of it started, Whorlpaw used his skills to climb into the many trees and catch as many squirrels as possible. Then, he returned to the ground with a mouthfull of squirrel and hunted voles and mice. He returned to Mistleheart and Slatefoot proudly, and saw his sister Foxpaw returning too, but with less of mouthful as him! He won! He had asked the warrior, Thrushfleck a quarter-moon ago about a great hunting skills to have, and he mentored squirrel hunting in the trees. And he had been practicing ever since! Told you Foxpaw! He listened to Mistleheart praise for him. He loved being praised by cats, even if they weren't his mentor. Blizzardkit would be proud of me!Whorlpaw was so ready when the fighting portion of the Warrior's assessment started. Gazing straight into his sisters' eyes, he took on a battle stance. But he made sure to keep his paws sheathed. Whorlpaw ran into battle, excited to prove his worth for becoming a warrior. However, when as the battle progresses, Whorlpaw was being beaten by Foxpaw, with her serperior battle skills! He tried his best to turn the battle around, but he was getting exhausted by the heartbeats. Finally, Whorlpaw collasped from his exhaustion, and his sister Foxpaw tapped her on his shoulder to signify she won the battle. I never knew my sister had THOSE battle moves!Whorlpaw was disapointed, but he cheered up when Mistleheart comforted him. He listened to his sister saying that he could be a warrior next moon! " I hope so! Then I can hunt and patrol without my mentor instructing me. And I'm getting sick of Hazelpelt being my mentor! She's SO strict! " What name will it be?! Whorlwhisker, Whorlshade, Whorlspring, Whorlstrike, Whorltalon?!Whorlpaw couldn't help but wonder what his warrior name will be... Feathertalon Whorlpaw (Asks Slatefoot how she is doing) Whorlpaw woke up from his sleep and stretched his paws. It was morning, and he padded outside the apprentice's den to find the closest warrior to talk to. He was really surprised when Heavy became deputy of all cats after Dapplestar became leader. But he supported the new leader's decision and her disregard for the Warrior Code for making cats deputies. He was really excited when a new kit Puddlekit was brought home to camp by an elder, Scarletdrift. And he was also very excited when a pair of cats, Thrushfleck and Shadepatch announced that they were having kits together, and Shadepatch giving up her healer's duties to join Hopbramble and her kits in the nursery. Finally, a new generation of YewClan will be born! Whorlpaw found Slatefoot close by, and walked up to share tongues with her. " Good morning Slatefoot!" Whorlpaw meowed brightly. " How are you?! I'm going to be a warrior soon, and I'm going to be a GREAT one!" He perked his ears, awaiting Slatefoot for her response. OOC: I'm sorry this is a bit late... I have been practicing for a practical computer science test next week, and I need to be ready for the test. I will not write much next moon, because I have TWO tests on Wednesday and Thursday next week (Tuesday and Wednesday for you guys)

Drizzlemimic- Hunting with Frozenlaurel and Hopbramble Drizzlemimic followed the two older cats to the creek. He was excited, but also a bit nervous. He hadn’t fished since he was an apprentice, would he even be any good at it? He tried to stop worrying about that and, instead, focused on something positive. Frozenlaurel was out of the healers den! It was so great to finally walk with the grey tabby again. How long had it been since the dog attack? 6 moons?! For Drizzlemimic, it felt like only yesterday. But the events that happened that day didn’t haunt Drizzlemimic anymore. He knew he did the best he could. Now, the only thing that remained from the attack were scars, both physical for Frozenlaurel, and mental for Drizzlemimic. But scars stop hurting after healing. Also joining them was Hopbramble. Drizzlemimic was both surprised and happy to see her. At first, he wasn’t sure the tortoiseshell would want to stay with YewClan, but after a talk with Mistleheart he noticed all the hidden signs from StarClan that he hadn’t previously seen; Amberkit and Dawnkit being extremely rare male torties and Dawnkit having the appearance of a half moon. Well, that’s why I didn’t become a medicine cat, he thought to himself. But… if Hopbramble didn’t believe in StarClan, would her kits follow their mothers example? The three eventually arrived at the creek. It felt so good to dip his paws in the water and get some much needed protection from the heat. Just as Frozenlaurel finished talking, Hopbramble darted forward, without even waiting for them. “What’s up with her?” Drizzlemimic whispered to Frozenlaurel. Was Hopbramble mad that Frozenlaurel was bossing her around? He wasn’t even saying anything that commanding. It’s probably just that she’s used to being alone. The two toms followed her, with Drizzlemimic going a little further away from them. Right… Time to remember how to fish… Drizzlemimic knew he had to wait for the fish to get into a desirable position, then either give it a claw swipe or dunk his head into the water and use his teeth… or something along those lines. In the corner of his eye, Drizzlemimic saw movement. Lightning fast, he hit the fish with paw, laughing it into the air and catching it in his mouth. Hey! I’m actually pretty good at this! The next fish he caught just by diving his head in the water. Drizzlemimic was so concentrated on fishing, that he didn’t even see Hopbramble steal Frozenlaurel’s fish from under his nose. He suspected the situation could tense up, so he intervened preemptively. “Woah, everyone, we don’t need to fight! We’re all on the same team and want the same thing, after all. Let’s just get our fish in peace, ok?.” Drizzlemimic had a suspicion that Hopbramble didn’t exactly feel loyal to the clan, but he tried to calm things down anyway. Tagging Brownie lemonshortbread

Hayfeather padded alongside Drizzlemimic, enjoying the greenleaf sun that showed down from above the treetops. Their gray pelts brushing now and again, but Hayfeather didn't mind. Far from it.
It had been a while since their last patrol together, and one of the first times they'd been out alone. Perhaps it was Dapplestar and Heavy's way of giving them a gentle push in their relationship... Hayfeather could not deny his feelings for the gray and white tom. And it was evident that those feelings were reciprocated by the way he stumbled over his words now. Bubblingheart stepping down from his leadership had been bittersweet for all of YewClan. But retirement was well deserved for the elderly tomcat. Hayfeather was proud to have Dapplestar. His former mentor was a close maternal figure to him, and she'd worked hard as their deputy for many moons. Now she would lead them for many more.
"It's all been very exciting!"
"There's so many kits in YewClan now, we'll be mentors before we know it." After Hopbramble's litter had been brought back, Shadepatch had announced her pregnancy not long after. And Scarletdrift had arrived with the tiny Puddlekit. It would be Hayfeather's turn to become a mentor soon enough.
The gray tabby briefly stopped in his tracks at Drizzlemimic's confession. His shock quickly ebbing away into joy, and a purr rumbled inside the tom. He pushed his muzzle into the tom's side, "Always."
Their banter went on for some time as they continued the border patrol until Drizzlemimic stopped. Worry clouding over his gray and white face. Hayfeather's own fur began to bristle at the smell of rogue, remembering the hostile cat he'd encountered with Heavy moons prior. Or the rogue who'd attacked him many moons ago, leaving him scarred. "We must go back and report this to Dapplestar!" So many cat scents lingering on their border was a threat they could not take lightly.
✰✰✰ The dusk patrol trudged on, the sun beating down on their pelts. Greenleaf had been especially hot this season, resulting in heat exhaustion within the clans. Hayfeather wouldn't have minded taking a dip in the creek with Frozenlaurel now that his father's leg had healed. Perhaps they could soon enough.
Suddenly, the cats stopped, and the cat scent he'd smelled days before with Drizzlemimic flooded his senses. Just as the rogue cats began to emerge from the undergrowth Coppersplash and Mistleheart gave yowls of warning before leaping into battle. Hayfeather didn't hesitate to join his clanmates, twisting and slashing at dark fur with his teeth bared. "Take that, mange-pelt." He snarled, dealing a vicious blow to the dark-furred she-cat. She howled in pain before turning tail and disappearing into the ferns heading back to the border. In the midst of the fighting, he realized that the rest of the rogues were retreating as well. Some limping from the wounds his clanmates had inflicted. Hayfeather gave chase a few paces before letting out a triumphant yowl.
He returned to his patrol mates just in time to hear Mistleheart's last words of praise, feeling warmed at her approval. He adored hearing praise from the cats he wasn't as close to. Their kindness meant everything to him, and he wished all his clanmates reciprocated such kindness. "We had a great patrol leader leading us into the battle," Hayfeather purred, flicking the white-flecked she-cat with his tail.

Heavy »
Heat exhaustion was tearing through the camp like a bad case of greencough. Greenleaf was typically a season of celebration and relief, a time when cats didn’t have to worry much about illnesses and ailments, but the sun had been scorching the entire season. Cats had fallen ill to the heat, and as Heavy padded silently through the undergrowth with her patrol, she could see that even once green leaves had grown brittle and brown from the unrelenting heat. She hoped the heat would ease soon, and that her Clanmates would recover. But with Stormmask sick from heat and a mangled tail, and Shadepatch swollen with kits, it seemed that there would be no quick healing in the coming moon.
Heavy had gathered Cinderdapple for a hunting patrol. The young molly that Heavy had practically raised had pushed through her heat exhaustion and was surely rearing to provide for her Clan. Heavy had also wanted to spend time with the young warrior - afterall, she had raised Cinderdapple. It was always a treat to spend time with those she had raised. It was right before leaving camp that she had decided to bring Foxpaw along. With Slatefoot now under the spell of heat exhaustion and Whorldusk becoming a warrior, Heavy figured that Foxpaw would want to do something to get her mind off everything, so the deputy had been quick to invite the apprentice onto the small hunting patrol.
Bringing Foxpaw had proved incredibly fruitful it seemed.
Not long into their hunt the ginger apprentice mentioned the scent of a rabbit burrow. Eager at the thought of bringing back a plump rabbit, Heavy allowed Foxpaw to take the lead, carefully following the young molly until coming across a small rabbit burrow. It was tiny, much too small for Heavy or Cinderdapple. Just as she was about to call the rabbit hunt off, disappointed, Foxpaw made a quick dash down the hole, just small enough to squeeze through. ”Foxpaw!” Heavy called out a moment too late. Foxpaw had already vanished.
Wide eyed and bushy-tailed the deputy stood there, concern gnawing at her. The area reeked of rabbit, but what if there was something other than a rabbit down there? What if a fox had found the burrow already and was using the scent of rabbit to mask its own stench? What if the burrow collapsed and Heavy had to return to camp without prey and without Foxpaw? Despair churned like storm clouds. What would she tell Bubblingheart? She couldn’t bear giving him the news that another one of his kits had tragically passed…
Scurrying snapped the calico from her thoughts. Heavy jumped back just in time to see Foxpaw pulling herself back out of the burrow, with not one, but two, rabbits clamped firmly in her jaws.
Heavy bristled, fur ruffling with both relief and worry. ”Foxpaw, you could have gotten hurt down there!” She reprimanded moments before rushing toward the apprentice, vigorously running her tongue against Foxpaw’s pelt where dust and debris had stuck to her pelt. While not the molly’s mother Heavy couldn’t help but feel maternal instinct pulse through her as she cleaned up the apprentice’s pelt, stepping away once she felt Foxpaw looked at least passable.
Her eyes landed on the two rabbits, plump off of greenleaf grasses. Her worry deflated, shoulders loosening. A sigh slipped off her lips, soon to curl into a light smile. ”Regardless, you did well in catching two fine rabbits. I’ll make sure Dapplestar knows you’re the reason YewClan eats well tonight.” For as risky as that had been, Foxpaw was proving herself a fine hunter even after she had been shadowed in Whorldusk’s hunting skills last moon.
Slatefoot »
batting at a patch of sunlight
Slatefoot despised herself right now. Out of all the times to succumb to the monster that was heat exhaustion, right at the end of her apprentice’s training… Slatefoot had promised Bubblingheart that she would teach his daughter well and not falter on her training. She had promised herself that Foxpaw would become YewClan’s greatest warrior. She didn’t want Foxpaw to go through the same disappointment that Slatefoot herself had felt not once, but twice. First when Thrushfleck had been named a warrior, second when Brightleaf had been named a warrior. And now here she was, trapped in camp, weak and light-headed, and Dapplestar had named Whorldusk a warrior while his littermate remained in the apprentices’ den.
Laying there, unable to walk more than four pawsteps before growing too dizzy, Slatefoot knew exactly how her apprentice must feel. Her apprentice who should have been a warrior alongside her brother.
Fate was a cruel thing. She had heard her mother breathe those words before, but it wasn’t until now that Slatefoot truly understood what Heavy had meant.
Frustrated by this turn of events, Slatefoot did the only thing she could do - using what little energy she had to bat at the sunlight filtering into camp. The light dazzled between her unsheathed claws, and she knew it was illogical to attack something she couldn’t even feel, but if it weren’t for the hot presence of the sun then she wouldn’t be stuck in camp. If it wasn’t for the heat of the sunlight then she could have trained Foxpaw better these last few days. Foxpaw could have been a warrior alongside her brother. Slatefoot and Foxpaw both could have made Bubblingheart proud, and yet here Slatefoot was, sick, and there Foxpaw was, still a ‘paw while her brother had been named a vigilant warrior.

Heavy »
watching hopbramble's kits
Over the past few moons since Hopbramble’s arrival, Heavy had grown fond of the dark tortoiseshell tabby. It was clear that they had a lot in common - true, many of the cats who called YewClan their home had come from outsider roots, but most of those outsider roots either meant they had formerly been kittypets or they had once been a member of one of the neighboring Clans. Hopbramble was the only cat who had come to the Clan in a similar fashion as Heavy, a cat born in the wild who had held no allegiance to any Clan. That was something the calico and tortoiseshell had bonded over, something that Heavy couldn’t quite connect with her other Clanmates about.
So when Hopbramble had come to Heavy, asking if the calico would be willing to watch her kits while she went on patrol, Heavy had been quick to agree, not only because she found companionship in Hopbramble, but also because she adored the former loner’s large litter of five. As the Clan’s unofficial mother of those younger than her, it didn’t take much to sway Heavy to babysit, but there had been times where the calico just simply didn’t have time to give for kits.
As she took guard just outside the nursery where the litter was playing, Heavy recalled fondly of the time when her kits had been little. She remembered how rambunctious and wild the three had been, she could only imagine just how tough it was to corral five kits in for the night! Heavy’s whiskers twitched at the image of Hopbramble frantically rounding her kits in when it was time for a nap or a meal. Three kits had been a lot for Heavy to deal with, but she couldn’t imagine having it any other way. She was sure Hopbramble felt the same about her own large brood.
Content with her task for the day, Heavy curled her tail nearly around her paws and allowed herself to relax, enjoying her time as she watched the kits tussle about and play with one another.

Foxpaw - Hunting patrol with Heavy and Cinderdapple
Foxpaw couldn't believe she wasn't a warrior. Her brother Whorldusk had been made warrior only a few sunrises ago, and she was still an apprentice. She thought she had done everything right! Sure, she hadn't brought back as much prey as Whorldusk last moon, but she had done really well on the fighting portion! Was it because Slatefoot had gotten heat exhaustion this moon, and she hadn't been given as much training as Whorldusk? Or was it because of what had happened with Blizzardkit? Did Dapplestar blame her and this was her punishment? Would she be an apprentic forever? That's nonsense Foxpaw! You probably just need a little push. I just need to overachieve this moon, and Dapplestar will have to make me a warrior.
Foxpaw felt that she was the third wheel of the patrol, that Heavy had been planning on going out with Cinderdapple but thought at the last second to bring the only apprentice out with them. It was sad in the apprentices den, now that Whorldusk had left. She was the only apprentice in the clan now, and it was embarrassing. Bubblingheart would have made us warriors at the same time. Foxpaw had heard that Heavy had practically raised Cinderdapple and Drizzlemimic, meaning that she would probably just trail behind the two while they caught up. Her plan on overachieving this moon wasn't working out so far.
Foxpaw opened her mouth to scent the air around her- rabbit! If she could catch it, then maybe Dapplestar would see that she was an amazing hunter as well as fighter. Then she would become a warrior. "I smell rabbit!" Foxpaw whispered to the rest of the patrol, excitement an edge in her voice. Heavy gave her the go-ahead to lead the trio in the hunt, and Foxpaw, proud that the deputy thought she could do this, took the lead. She tracked the scent to a rabbit burrow, not far from where she had told her clanmates. There was sure to be a rabbit in there, and she was pretty small for a fully grown cat. Smaller than most cats...
Without a second thought, Foxpaw dashed into the rabbit burrow. She could hear Heavy calling out to her, but it was too late to turn back. The rabbit scent was overwhelming in here, there had to be more than one. There! It was the tail of a rabbit, and Foxpaw crept closer... and closer... then she got close enough to deliver the killing blow. The rabbit fell limp in her paws. Leaving it there, she would pick it up when she got back, Foxpaw continued down the burrow. There had to be a spot where she could turn around.... Letting out a yowl of surprise, Foxpaw came face-to-face with another rabbit, and she killed it before it had the chance to run away. Two rabbits for her clan! Right here the tunnel widened out slightly, just enough for her to turn around and make her way back up to her patrol, her two rabbits in tow.
Foxpaw emerged to the scowling face of Heavy, and Foxpaw felt that this hadn't been the best idea. She had gotten two very plump rabbits, but what if her impulsiveness kept her in the apprentices den for another moon? Would Heavy do that to her? The deputy reprimanded her, grooming the dirt and stones out of her fur. But after she was done and caught sight of the prey Foxpaw had retrieved, Heavy brightened up. "Thank you Heavy! That means so much!"

By the stars, it was hot. Perhaps, the hottest it had ever been. The hottest he had ever been in his entire life. And Hayfeather was still very young. So, if you asked him, that was saying a lot.
He had been assigned on a hunting patrol with Hopbramble and Drizzlemimic. But Hayfeather was far too overheated to pay much attention to a hunt. Was he next in line for the dreaded heat stroke that was making its rounds through YewClan? First Dapplestar, their new leader, and now Storm-mask had also come down with it. And many other cats within the Clan. With no medicine cats or leader to guide them, would YewClan survive the bought of heat exhaustion?
Hayfeather's paw steps had been sluggish, and he'd carelessly trampled behind his patrol mates, too lost in his thoughts and his misery to care. Where were his patrol mates? Guiltily scenting the air, Hayfeather realized Drizzlemimic and Hopbramble had ventured far ahead of him. Quickly, the gray tabby hurried after his clanmates, his paws falling clumsily through the undergrowth. But, unfortunately, Hayfeather couldn't care less today. He just wanted to get this over with and return to camp.
As he entered the clearing where the cats stood, Hayfeather stepped on a branch, sending a blackbird fluttering high up into the trees. Its alarm rings all around them. "Er, sorry, Hopbramble." Hayfeather didn't dare meet the patrol leader's gaze, knowing only frustration was waiting for him there. And, even worse, he was sure Drizzlemimic was just as disappointed in him.
"At least you two caught something, right?"

lazzylake Feathertalon Whorlpaw (Warrior ceremony) Whorlpaw's heart started beating quickly, and his ears perked with excitement as he heard the leader call a warrior ceremony. He followed close behind Foxpaw, quickly exchanging exchanges as they padded to the front of the crowd. The leader, Dapplestar was perched high on the great rock, standing tall. Whorlpaw couldn't believe he was going to become a warrior at last! But he was also very nervous... As Dapplestar calls Whorlpaw's name, the ginger tom nervously walked to stand in front of her. Once he sat down, his ears was perked with interest of what his warrior name. Dapplestar called out the oath of being a warrior. " I do..." mewed Whorlpaw, avoiding eye contact with his leader out of nervousness. He wasn't entirely answering the oath with truth. Yes, he will risk his life to save other cats, but he will not follow the Warrior Code and follow his own roles. Dead cats shouldn't control my life! Blizzardkit shouldn't have died, and she is dead dead! She and the other StarClan cats have no right to make up rules for the living cats! There was hurt in the young tom's thoughts after he answered the oath. Grief was heavy on him, and even though he didn't really feel it as a kit, he definitely felt it now. He really missed her presence beside him. " Your name will be Whorldusk, StarClan honors your vigilance." The leader's voice rung in the newly named Whorldusk's head. So Whorldusk it is... It's not a bad name to be at least, it's cool, but I wanted to be called something COOLER like Whorlstrike, Whorlfang, or Whorlclaw!" Thank you Dapplestar. It's a cool name." Meowed Whorldusk, giving one quick glance at her. Dapplestar walked down the Great Rock to nuzzle her head onto Whorldusk. Her presence was uncomfortable to Whorldusk, who took a pawstep back quickly after he was embraced. The YewClan cats' chants of the ginger tom's new name filled the clearing. What happen next confused the new warrior. Instead of going to back up the Great Rock to call his sister, Foxpaw's name, she ended the Clan meeting, walking away from the rest of the Clan cats. Whorldusk quickly glanced at Foxpaw to see her in despair. But Whorldusk didn't have the confidence to stride up to Dapplestar and ask her why Foxpaw wasn't named a warrior. Instead, he asked Foxpaw's mentor, Slatefoot. She was sick with heat exhaustion, but she was still well enough to join the gathering of cats for the Clan meeting. " Slatefoot... I must ask you. Why wasn't my sister made a warrior?! She beat me in our mock battle, so she deserves to become one! It's all so confusing!" OOC: Just wanted to get Whorldusk's warrior ceremony out today. I'll do the patrol responses tomorrow and the day after

Shadepatch - tries to find the quietest corner of the nursery & Is unsure of how many kits she'll have-Shadepatch had been in the nursery for a moon now, and while she liked the company of the many kits currently living in the den, at the moment they were being a bit loud and rambunctious, and Shadepatch was trying to hide in the quietest corner of the nursery so they wouldn't try to start a play fight with her.
Thinking about her future kits, she wasn't sure how many she would have, but she knew she would love all of them as much as she could.

Drizzlemimic- Patrol with Hopbramble and Hayfeather Just when Drizzlemimic thought it couldn’t get hotter, it did. Well, it was now hot and humid, which made going outside feel like walking on the sun. No wonder so many cats are getting heat exhaustion! The forest felt like it was on fire! Drizzlemimic was joined on his patrol by Hayfeather and Hopbramble. He wasn’t exactly sure how he felt about Hopbramble after their last patrol together, but he was very happy to be with Hayfeather. Maybe they could confide in each other about how horrible it was outside and- Hey! Where’s Hayfeather? He must have fallen behind. Maybe he scented some prey and went to catch it? He’ll catch up eventually!Drizzlemimic started hunting. He felt dizzy, but he did find a a cardinal eventually. Carefully, he snuck up behind it, hiding in the tall grass. Keeping his body low, he waited until the bird was just in the right position. The pounce was quick, but effective, and Drizzlemimic caught the cardinal with his teeth. It wasn’t much, but it would surely feed one cat. While trying to look for more, he was started by the sound of a bird flying up into the trees. He turned around to the grey tabby he was looking for earlier. “Hayfeather! Did you have any luck catching anything?” But as he took a closer look at him, Drizzlemimic realized he was empty pawed. "At least you two caught something, right?" Hayfeather asked. “Well, yea…” Drizzlemimic responded with slight disappointment in his tone. He was in a similar position a few moons ago, but this time on the other end. At least Hayfeather didn’t eat his catch.Drizzlemimic understood how Hayfeather felt. Sure, he was disappointed he didn’t try at least a bit, but friends are there for each other in times of need. Friends. If only we could be more than friends… He walked up to his fellow warrior and gave him a quick nuzzle. “You good?” Drizzlemimic asked in a sweet tone. Drizzlemimic- Surprises Foxpaw with something thoughtful Drizzlemimic had just come back from a solo hunting patrol, when he saw Foxpaw in the camp clearing. Poor cat, he thought, it must have been awful to see her brother become a warrior and not her too. Drizzlemimic never had that problem, as both him and Cinderdapple were made warrior at the same time. Granted, Cinderdapple had always been more skilled than him, but this didn’t discourage Drizzlemimic. He looked at the mouse he caught earlier and was about to bring to the fresh kill pile. I’ll bring it to her instead.“Hey, Foxpaw. I heard you failed your apprentice assessment. Don’t worry, it happens to the best of us. You’ll be made a warrior in no time! Here, I brought you something.” He slid the mouse over to her. “I know it’s not much, but I wanted to make you feel better. Hopefully this helps, even if just a little.” Drizzlemimic loved helping people and making others feel better. It was something he recently discovered about himself. Turns out, it felt good to be altruistic and put others before himself. It’s something he wanted to do more often, and Foxpaw was his first “target”. Tagging whispering lemonshortbread Dew

puddlekit tries to sneak out behind a patrol (Thrushfleck, Coppersplash, Whorldusk) plays with Whorldusk all day ★ Puddlekit's stealth was immaculate. He could hide in plain sight if he wanted. He was just that good. But it's rude to show off and so Puddlekit made sure to keep behind the dense warrior's den as he followed the patrol towards the camp entrance.
He didn't understand why Whorldusk became a warrior. Being small was so much better! No cat could see Puddlekit when he was sneaking and he was very good at Seek the Mouse and Rabbit Hunt! He'd spent the morning playing with Whorldusk and the young warrior was easy to find. He should have decided to stay an apprentice forever, warriors were too big to hide properly.
Puddlekit waited patiently for the three cats to pass through the camp's entrance: Thrushfleck, then Coppersplash (who still smelled funny), and finally Whorldusk. Once Whorldusk's tail was around the corner, Puddlekit shot forward to follow. He knew he'd get lost outside of YewClan's camp if he went alone, but so long as he followed a patrol, he'd be fine! They wouldn't even know he was there!
He skidded out of the camp entrance only to discover the patrol was already gone! "How can they go so fast?" Puddlekit exclaimed, dismayed, plopping down in the middle of the bramble arch. Maybe that was why Whorldusk chose to be a warrior: warriors weren't sneaky, but they were fast! ★ So I don't know how many of you noticed but uh. I put me tag on this boy ;-; I've been debating taking a second character and while I'd much rather Hopbramble's litter all be claimed before they're apprentices.... I couldn't give up the opportunity to take a Scarletdrift baby okay ;-; I'm weak ★ grimmreminder asrise Sapphirejas (mentions) frozenlaurel patrol - Mistleheart ★ Mistleheart had been the one to point out the pawprints. A recent rain had turned the earth to mud and the prints were deep, but sloppy, more a blurred track than individual paw prints. Still, there was enough definition left in some of the markings to identify the tracks as a cat's.
"Do you think they could be YewClan's?" Frozenlaurel asked, though he doubted any cat would have willingly chosen to venture out of camp the last few days, especially not alone. The scattered rainstorms did little to dampen the oppressive heat, and the humidity covered the forest in a thick, stuffy blanket that made it hard to breathe.
Yeah, they should try not to fight in this weather. Patrolling was bad enough.
Still, if they weren't YewClan's pawprints, that meant Frozenlaurel and Mistleheart would be responsible for tracking down the intruder. The grey tomcat sighed, his tail drooping. This wouldn't be a quick border patrol after all.
"Here, I'll go first. Make a path." Because of course the intruder's pawprints had gone through the deepest mud, the thickest undergrowth. Frozenlaurel was growing tired just thinking about wading through that in this heat. But it had to be done, and his bulk would do the job better than Mistleheart's slimmer frame, so he pushed forward before he had the chance to regret his choice, using his shoulders to bully bushes out of the way, his paws sluck-sloping as he slogged through the mud.
At least they didn't have to venture far. The red molly was easily visible against the thick fern cover, even caked in mud. Frozenlaurel gave one last heave, crashing through a tangle of honeysuckle to give Mistleheart room to follow--they'd need the both of them ready in case this did come to blows. Frozenlaurel was a bit out of breath from the hard hike, but he puffed up his fur (already mostly frizzed from the humidity, he didn't have to do much convincing to get it to stand on end) and bared his teeth.
frozenlaurel thinks Drizzlemimic is kind is startled by a squirrel ★ Frozenlaurel's heart raced.
He wished it was the result of something fun, like the thrill of climbing a particularly tall tree. Or perhaps his heart thrummed after Hazelpelt gifted him with a bright smile.
But no, Frozenlaurel's current predicament was simply because a squirrel decided to drop a walnut from the tree above, a walnut that had landed only whiskers from his nose as he dozed in the sun. The flicker of motion and dull thump of the nut had started him, and the harsh rustle of leaves and branches from overhead only a second later had the grey tom leaping to his paws, claws out, tail bristled, looking for threats.
Embarrassing! He had been in the middle of YewClan's camp, napping in a delicious patch of shade. He'd been forced to beat a quick retreat after his unsavory performance, and now sat half-hidden by the healer's den, licking the embarrassment from his fur in an attempt to soothe his bruised pride as he waited for the spike of adrenaline to run its course.
He grumbled, licking the dust from his side, when he heard Drizzlemimic's voice: "Hey, Foxpaw. I heard you failed your apprentice assessment." Frozenlaurel didn't mean to eavesdrop, but he figured as they were speaking in the camp clearing, it wasn't meant to be private. Besides, what was Frozenlaurel supposed to do? No matter where he sat, he was bound to overhear some cat's conversation: YewClan's camp buzzed with it.
So Frozenlaurel wasn't not listening as Drizzlemimic reassured Foxpaw about her assessments. By the sounds of it, he'd also brought the young molly a gift. The grey warrior smiled into his fur, setting his bristling shoulder fur straight. It was one thing to know YewClan's cats cared for each other, but it was another to see that kindness in small, private moments like these. ★ Sapphirejas <3 ★ chocolatemilk7 Dew jaybun! BUBBLINGHEART - Cheers the loudest when Whorldusk is named! Warriors already! Bubblingheart could scarcely believe it. It felt like just yesterday he had brought his children to camp- the three of them squirming little balls of fur. His heart panged, eyes landing on the empty space between Whorlpaw and Foxpaw. Were Blizzardkit still with them, she would’ve fit perfectly there; shoulder to shoulder with her siblings. Bubblingheart swallowed around the small knot in his throat, glancing up and away toward where Dapplestar stood tall atop the camp’s ridge. She would’ve made a great warrior. Dapplestar’s smooth voice rang out across the gathered cats, strong despite the heat exhaustion he knew still wore at her body, “ ... by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Whorlpaw, from this moment on you will be known as Whorldusk.” Bubblingheart took a breath, shaking the lingering grief from his frame. He couldn’t let anything ruin this moment for his son! With a great big purr, the elder ginger tom tipped his head toward the sky, shouting Whorldusk’s name to Starclan itself! HAZELPELT - Whorlpaw's warrior ceremony! (Wants to spend time with Slatefoot) Hazelpelt purred as she leaned forward to touch her nose to Whorldusk’s flank. Her apprentice was a warrior! Take that Frozenlaurel! The cinnamon-colored molly fluffed up with pride, her tail held high. Despite her doubters, despite her kitty-pet roots, she’d not only trained an apprentice; but done it right! No cat within the clans would be able to look down on her now- she’d showed them all what she was capable of! It unfortunately, didn’t make her any taller physically. Hazelpelt craned her head to glance past her clanmates broad shoulders, eyes running across the gathered cats till she landed on Foxpaw’s figure. What name had Dapplestar picked for her? To her surprise, Dapplestar leapt down from the ridge above without another word. Hazelpelt blinked, glancing between the leader and Foxpaw. Surely Foxpaw deserved to be named just as much as Whorldusk? Slatefoot was a wonderful mentor, the younger molly should be right here; celebrating their success! She watched grimly as Dapplestar vanished back into the leader’s den. That’s not fair, she thought, mewing her well wishes to Whorldusk as the crowd dispersed. Every Yewclan cat knew how hard Slatefoot worked, how skilled Foxpaw had become underneath her tutelage. That the two littermates couldn’t sit their vigil together just wasn’t right. Mind made up, Hazelpelt turned to follow the milling warriors. She’d visit Slatefoot, and maybe Foxpaw after. They deserved some reassurance, and she’d give it to them herself if Yewclan refused too.

Coppersplash The sun broke over the treetops of Yewclan, its orange beams filtering between branches as it cast a glow over the territory. Dew coated the undergrowth as Coppersplash padded through quietly. This was her favourite time of day, it always had been. She was not as alone as she was in BurdockClan anymore, but she still had a love for pacing the territory before anyone else had woken. It was just peaceful, just her and the sun and the trees…But soon, she had to return. And though she might like to think it, the territory of YewClan was not only home to the sun and the trees. It also held all manner of nasty little creatures… As they raced towards the border to begin the patrol, Coppersplash was again filled with a sense of duty. Borders were important here in YewClan, and it simply wouldn’t do to let them go unmarked! Coppersplash nearly crashed into Thrushfleck when the older warrior stopped in front of a mink, hissing at it. Copperspash and Whorldusk fanned out next to him, Coppersplash unsheathing her claws as she hissed at the wiry creature, which bared its tiny teeth and fled, being chased out of the territory. Good. Now it’s some other cat’s problem. Copperspash thought with satisfaction. Coppersplash returned wearily from the patrol that day, tired out from chasing the mink across the border. “Why does there have to be a whole bunch of miserable old intruders here all the time?! First rogues, now mink!” She wondered aloud, flopping next to Hopbramble. “I never had to deal with this back in BurdockClan…” It slipped out, but she didn’t really mean anything by it. She couldn’t honestly say she missed her old clan, after all. Tagging: lemonshortbread (As Hopbramble), Sapphirejas (As Whorldusk), grimmreminder (As Thrushfleck)

Dapplestar
★ Questions her ability to lead ★ This was it. Dapplestar's first warrior ceremony. And it was for Bubblingheart's kit, no less! Nostalgia flooded her memories as she remembered Frostfleck by her side, with Bubblingstar touching his muzzle on her head. He's preformed more ceremonies for me more than any cat in the clan. The tortoiseshell leader stood regally over the ridge's outlook stone, every eye fixated on her as she recited the warrior's oath. Whorlpaw sat close, sky blue eyes gleaming with anxiety and grief as he listened. Thinking about Blizzardkit, no doubt. StarClan knows I miss her too.
Then he spoke. Two simple words. Words that bound an honorable clan cat to the code.
I do.
“...By the powers of StarClan, I hail you by your warrior name. Whorlpaw, in honor of your vigilance, you will be known as Whorldusk. " She gracefully crawled down the Great Rock and touched her nose upon the graduated tom's head, purring softly. The clan roared with cheers (Bubblingheart's notably, Dapplestar thought with humor) and Whorldusk nervously thanked her. After a moment, the ridge fell silent. Normally this was the moment when she would repeat the ceremony for Foxpaw. Dapplestar cast her gaze onto the ginger apprentice's frame, her chest tight with concern. Of course Bubblingheart's daughter had proved herself worthy, but reflecting on the past couple of moons, Dapplestar noticed some areas that needed improvement. For instance, when the tortoiseshell examined her and Slatefoot's training, Foxpaw seemed clumsy on her paws. And now that her mentor was sick with heat exhaustion, Foxpaw was missing out on that final, crucial moon of training that assessed her strengths and weaknesses.
Speaking of heat exhaustion, Dapplestar began to pant as the sun shone directly on her back. She needed to cool off soon. The leader took a great breath before heaving herself back to her paws. " The clan meeting has concluded. "
Postponing Foxpaw's ceremony was the least of Dapplestar's worries. This greenleaf had proved to be an unseasonably brutal one, with a good pawful of cats dealing with the effects of heat related ailments. Shadepatch was in the already crowded nursery expecting kits, while Stormmask was battling both exhaustion and a mangled tail. Dapplestar couldn't stand the thought of losing the wise healer and her beloved friend. She would've fought that fox single pawed if she wasn't so drained. This heat may have gotten the better of her judgement, but one thing was certain: YewClan was in a vulnerable position.
Dapplestar took one final look at the clearing before retreating to the peace (and shade) of her den. She hoped her clanmates wouldn't judge her too harshly. tags: N/A ooc: (I wrote this all in one go. This did wonders for my motivation! If I remeber, I'll try and update this post with her sick sprite.)

Brownie Mistleheart (Pawprints while patrolling with Frozenlaurel) The sun's rays casted through the tree on this very hot sunrise, as Mistleheart padded alongside Frozenlaurel on a border patrol. The ground was damp from the rain the came across the land last night. Mistleheart absolutely detested going with him, but the deputy and the cat who raised the fluffy white she-kit since she was a kit, Heavy has assigned her to a patrol with the gray tom. She believed he was a code breaker from the one time he accidently brought back a sickly rabbit, making everyone sick for two moons. And he was a FORMER KITTYPET! Her ears twitched as she walked, avoiding to have one glance at him. Mistleheart started thinking about the Warrior ceremony of Whorldusk. She thought it was incredibly unfair for the new leader, Dapplestar to make the young ginger tom Whorlpaw a warrior, but not his sister and littermate, Foxpaw. They deserve to become warriors at the same time! She wanted to take it upon Dapplestar for delaying Foxpaw's warrior ceremony, but she didn't, as the warrior code says for cats to respect their leader. Even if it was a leader that she doesn't agree with, and Dapplestar is certainly one she didn't agree with. Though, despite her differences with Whorldusk, she was happy YewClan have gained a new warrior. Her thoughts drifted to the critical situation with the healers. After the younger healer, Shadepatch moved to the nursery while expecting Thrushfleck's kits, the older healer, Stormmask was attacked by a fox, and soon got heat exhaustion as well. The white-furred warrior was deeply concerned about the healer, Stormmask, even if she didn't get along with her very well. She was also very worried about the fact there was no healers to take care of the cats in YewClan if they got sick or hurt! And no healers to help tend to the cats sick with heat exhaustion! Mistleheart shock herself to focus back on the patrol. Choosing to avoid communication with Frozenlaurel, she chose to gaze at the ground as she walked. Suddenly, the fluffy white warrior came across a trail of pawprints in damp soil, leading further into YewClan's territory! There is a rogue in our territory! thought Mistleheart. Mistleheart's ears flattened back. " There's a trail of pawprints leading deeper into our territory! I think it belongs to a rogue! " " Let chase that fox-hearted intruder away,... Frozenlaurel! " " Do you think it belongs to a YewClan cat?" Frozenlaurel asked Mistleheart. " We'll check and see!" Meowed Mistleheart. When Frozenlauel offered if she could follow him, Mistleheart reluctantly accepts. As they tracked the pawprints, the scent of a rogue wafted into her nose. " It is from a rogue! I told you rabbit-catcher." Mistleheart waded through the mud, dirtying her fluffy white fur. A ginger red she-cat was visible in the ferns in the distance. The white-furred warrior stormed up to her, her hackles raised and claws unsheathed, ready for a fight if she need to. " What are you doing here?! " Yowled Mistleheart, her bottlebrush fluffy fur making her look twice the size than she really is " This land belongs to YewClan! If you don't back away, you will need to fight not only ME, but also Frozenlaurel here! " The ginger red rogue looked terrified by the sheer size of Mistleheart attributed by her fluffy fur, and took one glance of Frozenlaurel before turning tail and fleeing for the border of YewClan! " AND STAY OUT!" Mistleheart screeched to the ginger red she-cat, who disappeared through the bush.
