|| Thrushfleck - Patrol & Talking to Burdockclan - /w: Frozenlaurel, Pondspeckle [ Brownie stormshade1 ] ||Thrushfleck led the charge of the patrol with due general caution after the untimely demise of a kit within their ranks. Sorrow was.. expected, and extra patrols all the same. Less than, for the borders, perhaps- but rather for large birds of prey. Though that didn't mean their control over the borders could slip by any means. So- Thrushfleck pushed forward taking his duty rather seriously as he approached the borders, marking the territory carefully and dutifully as he aimed to keep the mood elevated. " Well, we haven't seen any giant feathers so thats good news. We may be in the clear, and hopefully, Bubblingstar can rest a little eaiser. " he finally stated as he rounded towards his patrolmates. Frozenlaurel, a tom he hadn't quite gotten to know but wished he had done so- as well as his son Pondspeckle. It was in the moment that he was addressing them, studying them for any glimpses of what may be tension, fear, or sadness- that he heard voices from the border as well. Burdockclan, likely coming to mark their edge of the border as well. He stepped up before the others around him could, waving his tail in greeting to the charging cats. " Hey! We just got done here! " he called out to them in friendly greeting. He had a duty, he supposed, to warn them of the danger. If he did so with a smile, it was less likely for a skirmish to break out. " I figured I'd warn you guys, there was a bird of prey spotting around here recently. It would be good to be careful and keep an eye out, don't want anything happening to you guys that's avoidable. "

HAZELPELT - Fixing the camp walls with Drizzlemimic! (shared prey with Slatefoot) Repairing the walls was one of the first tasks Hazelpelt had learnt when she'd been found by Yewclan. She pushed against the thick, spiky barrier with a careful paw; testing it for weak spots as she absentmindedly licked her chops. The gamey taste of the squirrel she'd shared with Slatefoot still lingered on her tongue- the company, though muted, sat warm and fulfilling right next to her now full belly. It felt selfish, to feel so content while so many of her clan mates suffered, so she channeled her guilt into the pinch and poke of the bracken that reinforced the walls. Hoping one less chore might lift some of the weight off Slatefoot and Bubblingstar alike. " Need any help?" Hazelpelt perked up at the sound of Drizzlemimic's voice, turning to blink kindly at the young warrior, " I'd love another set of paws- if you wouldn't mind?"

Slatefoot »
A trill of laughter escaped Slatefoot, a melody of pure joy that did not often happen for any warrior. Rather than romp about in the snow, the two mollies should have been hunting and providing for their Clan, but despite the cold weather and the chill in the air, the fresh-kill pile had remained well stocked. No cat had yet to go hungry. Prey was not as plump as it had been some moons ago, and the songs of birds and rustling of rodents had quietened in the last few days, but hunger had yet to be a problem for YewClan. Greencough was sprouting, but at least those who fell ill had enough prey to give them strength. This realization made Slatefoot feel a little less guilty about playing with Mistleheart rather than hunting alongside her.
Paws slipping and sliding through the snow, the dark-furred molly was surprised to see that she had yet to slip - until she did.
The bare tree branches flipped as Slatefoot stumbled, losing her balance on a particular slick patch of snow. A whoosh of air escaped her lungs, leaving her chest empty and her heart racing. The young warrior’s mind froze momentarily, rushing around like a frantic squirrel in an attempt to calculate what had happened.
Chest refilling with oxygen and paws remembering how to stand, Slatefoot pushed herself back upward, only to stumble once more when Mistleheart ran after her; this time she was more prepared for the fall, tucking her limbs underneath her lithe frame and tactfully faltering into the snow, cold and melting underneath her belly fur. Slatefoot’s teeth chattered, yet her whiskers curled with joy, eyes bright with merriment, and her jaws parting with a laugh. ”You got me!” She crowed, her words forming into a cloud of air around her muzzle. ”You’ve bested the mighty Slatestar, honorable leader of YewClan,” she joked, rolling over onto her back, exposing her soft belly to Mistleheart - a sign of complete trust. No cat would show their most vulnerable area to a cat they had any mistrust toward.
Mistleheart meant a lot to Slatefoot, more than she could ever put into words. Since kits they had been close, their bond only growing stronger as they grew and matured into trusted warriors. Not a day went by that Slatefoot imagined Mistleheart not at her side.
Even with the cold snow tickling her ears and melting against her spine, Slatefoot warmed under the yellow gaze of Mistleheart. Perhaps one day they could become more than friends. Perhaps one day Slatefoot would have a mate to call her own.

Was this really a good idea? Would Bubblingstar even want to see her? Would he be receptive to her worries? Would he even want to listen to her babbling on about how lost she felt as of late? Would he -
The onslaught of questions came to a screeching halt when the all too familiar voice of Bubblingstar echoed from the depths of his den. Slatefoot did not hear the confident, strong voice of the leader who had mentored her seasons ago, but rather, she was greeted by a soft murmur, a ghost of a voice. A whisper of a cat who had once been strong and mighty. Blizzardkit’s death had crushed the Clan leader. The little kit’s passing had surely torn a wound into Bubblingstar’s heart.
Slatefoot’s own heart shuddered, beating frantically against her ribcage. She recalled how, some seasons ago, Heavy had returned from a patrol with distant eyes and dragging limbs. She recalled how broken her mother had appeared, how lost she had looked. Slatefoot had not even had time to ask what had happened when Brightleaf’s broken body had been carried back into camp. Her sister had been viciously attacked, blood still dripping fresh from the fatal blow that had been dealt. She recalled how small in death Brightleaf had appeared that night when the vigil had been held. Stormmask had done a fine job covering the scent of death and making Brightleaf look as peaceful as if she were sleeping, but Slatefoot had been no fool - her sister had died. A routine patrol had took a terrible turn.
She remembered her father’s own death, how he had staggered back to camp after a snake had sank its fangs into his flesh. He had been rushed to the healer, Stormmask frantically doing everything she could to heal the venom that pulsed within his bloodstream, yet to no avail. Stemriver had succumbed to the venom before he even had a chance. He had also looked so small in death, so fragile. Slatefoot knew her family awaited her in StarClan, but that reassurance only did so much to help guide her through her own life.
Stepping into Bubblingstar’s den and laying her eyes upon the grief-stricken tom, Slatefoot realized the two had a lot in common - she was not a parent herself, but she knew what it was like to lose a loved one. She knew how it felt to watch those she loved die in horrible ways.
Before she could even stop herself the molly shuddered and rushed forward, stopping only when her muzzle was deep in the old tom’s fur. ”Why are so many awful things happening?” She sobbed against Bubblingstar’s pelt, emotions unraveling underneath the presence of the cat who had trained her, the cat she had looked up to since she could remember. So many devastating tragedies had happened recently, and Slatefoot had to wonder if StarClan was punishing them for something. Had they angered their ancestors? And if so, what had they done and how could they fix this? Slatefoot would do anything to get in the good graces of her ancestors, they just had to name the price and she would be willing to pay it.

Dappleswipe
Hunting patrol with Cinderdapple Appreciates Cinderdapple checking up on her (+ Blizzardkit's death)
It was only the first moon of leaf-bare, but it was quickly becoming the cruelest Dappleswipe had ever seen. One of the most vulnerable members in the clan traveled to the stars. Red, a rescued elder, yielded to an unrelenting fit of wheezing. His vigil seemed to last for an eternity. Beloved clanmate Heavy also fell ill with seasonal greencough. Dappleswipe was anxious to see symptoms of the notorious killer so early.
In short, the camp was gripped tightly by grief. Yet, the winter continued. and StarClan’s ranks only grew while YewClan’s shrunk. The deputy envied her ancestors’ prosperity. They had an infinite supply of prey. They were healthy. They were warm. But her loved ones, both living and dead, would not allow her to wallow in self-pity. Dappleswipe had duties to uphold.
Wishing for some happier memories this leaf-bare, the deputy chose to patrol alone with Cinderdapple. The young warrior was nearly the spitting image of Stemriver. Trekking along the frosty bracken, it was almost like hunting with her first apprentice again. Almost. Nostalgia clutched her heart. Was Bubblingstar thinking of her when giving Cinderdapple her warrior name?
Dappleswipe shuddered as cold droplets rained on her dark pelt. Glancing up towards the barren trees, she noticed the beginnings of a flurry sprinkling on their hunting grounds. The tortoiseshell deputy issued a low growl to her partner. “If we're going to catch any prey, we'd better do it quick,” she advised. Cinderdapple flicked her ears in acknowledgement.
Right below her nose, a gray blur scampered among the leaves. The deputy followed a mouse disturbing the leaf litter. Instinctually, Dappleswipe tensed her stance and exploded in a pounce. As she pinned her prey, she examined the ground. A large heap of leaves was piled on a small ditch.
“This must be a mice burrow! Cinderdapple, see if you can flush any other prey out.” Efficiently, the younger warrior crept up to her front paws in the den. She pulled out two more mice. Their victory was short-lived as a hawk cried near the forest. Dappleswipe was about to alert her companion that they needed to return to camp until a tiny yowl rang through the treetops.
The deputy's heart dropped to her stomach as Foxkit raced into the open. The ginger kitten immediately confided in Dappleswipe, meowing frantically about how she and her sister snuck out of camp, only for Blizzardkit to become a hawk’s next meal. “It's going to be okay, Foxkit- don't panic. Take me to where you saw Blizzardkit last. We will mourn for her.”
With mice in each jaw, the trio padded up to a snowy clearing far away from YewClan's camp, much too far for any kit to travel. And that's when Dappleswipe saw all that remained of Bubblingstar's daughter. A single, crimson stained patch of earth. The deputy was rooted to the ground with horror. She felt Foxkit’s heavy, sobbing breaths on her flank. It was the warmest thing she had felt this moon. Even the flurry moments before had stopped as if the weather wanted to pay their respects. Dappleswipe carefully wrapped her tail around Foxkit, keeping her close until her ginger pelt was nearly absorbed into black fur.
“This is a sorrowful day for our clan. But I’m sure Blizzardkit is watching us from the stars. She is healthy now, and she is warm.” A frigid breeze ruffled Dappleswipe’s pelt. She nodded gently to Cinderdapple and Foxkit. “We need to tell Bubblingstar what happened. Let's hurry back to camp before this snow gets any worse.” Leafbare had swiped another future warrior under YewClan’s protection, but at the very least the patrol had brought back a healthy amount of prey while hunting was scarce. Perhaps this extra food could save a life. A small victory to reign over their losses. tags:lemonshortbread ooc: (My longest response yet. This was a challenge, but I had a fun time making it! Hope you all enjoy <3)

Shadepatch - Herb Gathering with Hazelpelt (jaybun! ) and is thinking about her former clanmates[[ OOC: Second paraghraph is just thought monologue lol, if you wanna just get to the stuff where Shade interacts with Hazelpelt, go to the third paraghraph ]]-Shadepatch trotted through the territory with the cat she had brought to gather herbs with her, Hazelpelt, on a search for moss. The land around them was covered in a thin layer of snow, and as they were in the northern part of the territory, coniferous trees and rocks of various sizes were also covered in the snow that leafbare always brought with it. Light snow fell on the territory, and with Rainfang's point visible in the distance, Shadepatch felt it was quite a scenic patrol, especially for any birds who wanted to watch from above. Though at the thought of birds, Shadepatch remembered Blizzardkit, the kit carried away by a hawk earlier in the moon. The kit had so much ahead of them in life, only for it to be taken so soon.Shadepatch's thoughts eventually came to her former clanmates, mostly her siblings and the medicine cats. Lakespirit, her brother, who had become a medicine cat apprentice after she left, had told her that her sister Crowfrost had become the deputy! her sister was a bit young when it happened, but she was happy for her sibling. Along with Lakespirit, Rippleshock and the relatively new Chestnutpaw were also medicine cats, and having three medicine cats would be good for Burdockclan. Back to the thought of Crowfrost, from the few times they met and what Lakespirit told her, she was not very happy with Shadepatch for her leaving. Shadepatch paused her thinking for a bit, deciding to start a conversation with Hazelpelt while they were searching for moss, thinking for a few seconds about what to say. "So, Hazelpelt, how are you doing today? :]" She eventually said.
Shadepatch - Shares prey with Dappleswipe and Whorlkit (lazzylake , Sapphirejas )-Shadepatch sat at the entrance to the medicine den. She hadn't managed to collect any herbs alone, and she had decided to sit at the medicine den after coming back. She noticed Dappleswipe and Whorlkit sitting close together, though she couldn't tell if they were talking or not. Either way, she got up and walked to the prey pile, grabbing a large rabbit with the intention of sharing it with the two cats she had seen. Walking over to the two cats she dropped the rabbit, "Wanna share this rabbit with me?" she then asked.
Shadepatch - Snowball Fight with Hazelpelt (jaybun! ) (everyone's free to join as well because that's the point)-Shadepatch was sitting in camp, looking around at the cats. With Red's and Blizzardkit's death, the clan was quite gloomy, though Shadepatch completely understood why, but she wished she could think of some way to cheer everyone up, if only for a short amount of time. With the light snowy weather of the moon, Shadepatch found herself having rolled a snowball while she was thinking. She checked what the snowball felt like, and it was quite soft, so it would be unlikely to cause any actual harm. She looked around with her snowball, spotting Hazelpelt eating some prey, deciding to try and start a snowball fight to lift the mood a bit. "THINK FAST >:3!" she shouted before throwing the snowball at Hazelpelt and quickly starting to create a new one.

Drizzlemimic- Helps Hazelpelt fix the camp walls "I'd love another set of paws- if you wouldn't mind?", Hazelpelt responded to Drizzlemimic’s question. “I’d love to help!” the grey and white tom said happily as he began to check the wall for weak points and reinforcing it with bracken wherever he found one. The task was tedious, yes, but it really helped Drizzlemimic take his mind of things. For a moment, he forgot about all the recent death in the clan, and could just focus on working. The two cats continued to work together on the camps defensive wall. Drizzlemimic realized just how little he actually knew about Hazelpelt. Despite her being in the clan ever since he was born, they’ve never really talked all that much. Drizzlemimic decided he could always get to know his clan mates better. And what better way to start than with the beginning? “So Hazelpelt, how exactly did you join YewClan?”. Tagging jaybun!

BUBBLINGSTAR - Speaking with Slatefoot. Bubblingstar's eyes stung, and it took several deliberate blinks before he was confident he wouldn't join Slatefoot's sobs. His voice was hoarse as he drug out an answer- no, not an answer, but the small comfort he had, " The good and the bad ebb and flow. Starclan would never give us more than we could be bear." He wasn't sure if that was true anymore. During Cloudystar's reign before himself, Bubblingstar knew Yewclan had flourished. The dens had been filled with nests, the nursery bustled with the cries of kits. Things had changed once he had been made a leader in his own right; and he was becoming more and more afraid that he himself may be the issue. Perhaps Starclan had disapproved of his appointment- but then why would they have given him his lives at all? There wasn't a single satisfying answer. On some level, Bubblingstar was aware the nostalgia of his youth made the past seem much brighter. But with each death he announced at the Gathering another clan had a birth, and he wondered if he wasn't the issue; what could be? HAZELPELT - Gathering herbs with Shadepatch!
" I'm okay![/i] Hazelpelt answered reflexively as she blinked into the present from her own reverie. The cinnamon molly bit back a wince, letting out a nervous laugh, " well, as good as can be with... everything." Yewclan's morale was at an all time low, not that she could blame a single cat for it. Warriors may die, but it was different when it was a kit. She was honestly a little relieved to be outside of camp for a bit. Much as she shared the grief of her clan-mates, Hazelpelt still wasn't the best at dealing with other's emotions. " Have you and Storm-mask found another good moss patch?" She asked, and then spluttered, " a-and how are you! I'm sorry, I should've asked that first!" HAZELPELT - Repairing the walls with Drizzlemimic! " Oh, I guess you weren't born yet, huh?" Hazel paused her work on the camp wall in wonder. Time passed so quickly, didn't it? Drizzlemimic and his sibling were already all grown up weren't there? Hadn't they just been kits? " Uhm, right- well," she continued on with a sheepish smile, " I used to be a kittypet, although you probably guessed that." Her paw rose up to touch the familiar shape of the collar around her neck. There had been more than one offer to remove it, but Hazelpelt found she couldn't imagine life without it. She'd been wearing one since as far back as she could remember, it was practically apart of her. " I got lost..." She thought back, remembering the sharp tinge of desperation and fear that clouded that day, " really lost. But Heavy found me out in Yewclan's forest on patrol. She really saved me." ------- tags: Feathertalon chocolatemilk7 cometchaos

Shadepatch - Herb Gathering with Hazelpelt-"I, uhhh, I'm, well, what you said for how I feel, and uh--" Shadepatch just looked confused for a moment before continuing--"Well uhh, like, hhhhhhhhhhhh????????" she then said in not much of an actual continuation. "How did I uh like, why did I forget how to speak," she then just stopped talking for a few seconds in confusion at the previous sentence.
[[ OOC: yes this is based on how I "speak" in social awkwardness ]]

Drizzlemimic- Repairing the camp walls with Hazelpelt Drizzlemimic thought for a second about the words Hazelpelt said to him. He had always wondered about her collar. While he had heard other clans express negative sentiments about kittypets at gatherings, especially FlowerClan, Hazelpelt was one of the most powerful and loyal warriors in YewClan. Just goes to show you don’t have to be born in the clan to be part of it, Drizzlemimic thought to himself. Being half-clan, he approved this sentiment even more than most cats. As he saw how FlowerClan cats treated outsiders, he was glad his mother didn’t let her kits stay there. And, he was even more glad that Stemriver left, so that Drizzlemimic and Cinderdapple may continue his legacy. Still, there was one big question on Drizzlemimic’s mind: “Do you ever… miss your old home?”. He never doubted Hazelpelt’s loyalty, but he was curious. “Like, do you think you would have been happier with your two-legs, if things would have gone differently?”, Drizzlemimic asked in a polite and curios tone. He didn’t want to appear rude. “I’m not implying that you aren’t loyal to YewClan by the way… I was just… wondering.”. Tagging jaybun!

Stormmask : slippery juniper | alone As the snow fell lightly onto Stormmask's dark tabby pelt, she shuddered. She didn't care much for leafbare, but YewClan was going to have to face it whether they liked it or not. The recent deaths of Red and Blizzardkit had definitely put a damper on things within the clan. Respectively so, losing a kit was one of the worst things that could happen.
Stormmask neared the border that YewClan shared with PlumClan. Despite the white snowflakes that fell before her gaze, she noticed a PlumClan patrol. It appeared the cats were making their way to the border. Luckily for her, she wouldn't be interacting with them. Still, her silver gaze was wary as she headed further east to a familiar juniper tree.
The dark grey tabby she-cat stood at the bottom of the tree, scouring it for its berries. The juniper tree's snow covered branches stood tall as the small, pale blue berries finally came into focus for Stormmask. They were up a tad too high for her. She knew that scaling the tree would be difficult considering the weather, but the medicine cat was going to try. As she climbed up the tree's trunk, she ascended slowly, feeling her grip slip from the trunk a few times. There's no way I can reach them, she thought, glancing up at the pale berries. All she needed to do was climb onto a branch though it was impossible for Stormmask to reach the juniper berries. There was no way the healer could reach them without risking injury.
She let out a sigh of defeat and scaled back down the juniper tree's trunk, its branches shaking snow off as she made her way down. Once she was on the forest floor, Stormmask stared at the tree in frustration before padding off back to camp.
[ tags: n/a ]
Stormmask : checking up on Whorlkit It was Stormmask's turn to check up on the kits. She had promised herself she would see Whorlkit first, whom she was concerned about. What cat wouldn't be concerned for the kits who just lost their littermate? She could only imagine how traumatic it was for both the kits and Bubblingstar.
As she slipped into the nursery, her pink nose twitched as she looked around the den for Whorlkit. "Whorlkit?" she called out, wondering if the kit had left the den. "I'm here to check up on you!"

Dappleswipe
Shares prey with Whorlkit and Shadepatch Bubblingstar hasn't been out of his den for days... Dappleswipe cast her anxious gaze towards the leader’s entrance. The deputy was the one to break the news about Blizzardkit’s sudden passing, and her words, although gentle, seemed to strike the tom like vicious claws. She had never seen a cat look so devastated. So broken. Like he was losing a life before her very eyes.
And in his absence, Bubblingstar’s leadership and parenting skills were ignored. Interacting with his remaining kits simply felt like an added duty of hers. One that Dappleswipe was grateful to take over until he recuperated.
The deputy was resting with Whorlkit in the divet that formed the nursery. She draped her tail a few mouse-lengths over the little tom's ears, seeing if he had enough energy to reach it. Impresively, Whorlkit seemed to be balancing the weight of grief well. The poor kitten had spent days in denial when Mistleheart explained Blizzardkit's disappearance, but now he was spreading small acts of kindness around camp.
Dappleswipe paused as Shadepatch approached the fresh-kill pile, picking out a rabbit. An awful hefty meal for a single cat... Sure enough, the medicine cat dragged it along to the nursery, prompting her and Whorlkit to share. Dappleswipe suspiciously surveyed the rabbit with a sniff. Last time she ate a rabbit this big, she was poisoned for a few moons. Naturally she would be a bit hesitant. But there was no trace of sickness in its scent. The black tortoiseshell approved with a tail flick, anticipating for Whorlkit to come closer. She thanked the young healer before settling down and taking a bite.
”That's very generous, Shadepatch! Of course we'll share with you.” tags: Sapphirejas cometchaos ooc: (Meant to get this out sooner but I had company over. I do have some brief dialogue written for the Hazelpelt prompt but that'll wait for tomorrow. I may have to send it after next moon.)

Heavy »
given moss as treatment, is proud of shadepatch - @ - & shares prey with slatefoot
Heavy was no medicine cat. She had no abilities of a healer to her name. She knew a bit more about herbs and remedies than the average warrior due to her long stay in the medicine cat den when she had first joined YewClan. Icepath had been the senior healer at the time. The long gone molly had taught Heavy quite a bit during her treatments, but not everything had stuck in her head. The calico had not been meant to go about her life as an herbalist. The knowledge of flowers and plants was useful, Heavy truly believed in that for she would not be alive if herbs did not work. Despite not having the knowledge of a fully trained medicine cat, Heavy was quite sure that moss was not a treatment for greencough. Catmint was the cure, juniper being a second best option to help the sick ease their breathing and loosen their lungs. Then again, Heavy was not a medicine cat. Maybe moss did help with greencough, or perhaps she had misheard Shadepatch. The tortoiseshell very well could have told her there was honey on the moss that would help soothe her throat and she simply didn’t hear it. Perhaps that was something she could ask about later when the medicine cat was not as busy.
During her waking hours, Heavy had watched the young Shadepatch work tirelessly with her patients. Drizzlemimic had caught whitecough, the poor tom dealing with raspy breathing and crackling coughs. With disease spreading Shadepatch had dedicated most of her free time to her patients, making sure they were given proper treatment and prey to keep their strength up. Stormmask had been working just as hard, but Heavy had to admit she paid more attention to the tortoiseshell than she did the gray tabby. Heavy cared for and cherished Stormmask, finding the gray tabby to be a source of comfort and a cat she harbored some romantic feelings for, but her attention was on Shadepatch. Not for any negative reason. More so she was just curious about the young cat, eager to get to know more about the cat her son had fallen in love with. Shadepatch reminded Heavy a lot of Stemriver, a lost apprentice seeking shelter within another Clan, finding their place, falling in love… She was proud of Shadepatch. Proud that she had worked so hard and had gained enough respect to be acknowledged as a YewClan medicine cat.
Not feeling feverish or struggling to breathe at the moment, Heavy took her leave from the medicine cat den. A raspy purr struck her vocal cords not only because she had once been in a position where movement was extremely difficult, but she caught sight of Slatefoot near the fresh-kill pile already a few bites into a squirrel. The calico bumped her daughter’s shoulder with her head in affection, taking a seat to not only share a meal, but to catch up with her kind-hearted ambitious kit.
Slatefoot »
The older Slatefoot got the more she realized just how hard being a Clan leader and deputy was. It was still a dream of hers to one day ascend to power and become Slatestar, an aspiration that burned deep within her body and kept her going. She strived to be the best, yearned to be the one who kits looked up to and respected. She wanted to be the one that kits ran up to and exclaimed their admiration, their want to be trained under her because she was the leader. The dark furred molly puffed her chest forward, paws taking her into the middle of camp. Becoming leader one day meant she had to take a very specific path. She had to make sure her actions were well thought out and her intentions clear. Slatefoot wanted the cats of YewClan to know she meant well and only wanted to secure their safety.
There was no surprise in her eyes when she came upon the form of Dappleswipe, the tortoiseshell deputy one of the cats that Slatefoot wanted to see today. She raised her tail high and dipped her head in a respectful greeting, determined to prove herself in the eyes of Dappleswipe. ”Morning, Dappleswipe,” she purred as her head lifted upward, no longer in a craned bow. ”How are you today?” Being a deputy surely had to be hard at times. It was bound to be a difficult job in the midst of leaf-bare, with snow covering the ground and flooding even the innermost parts of camp. Despite its difficulties and hardships, being deputy, and eventually leader, was something Slatefoot yearned for. Something she had wanted since she was a kit. Her heart wanted to protect her Clanmates and cherish them like they were her own kits, and what better way to do that then to become their leader?
”Is there any way I can help with patrols?” A bold question, an ambitious inquiry. But what better way than to show her drive to learn and succeed than by asking the deputy herself if Slatefoot could help with these things? With thick snow layering the ground outside and cats falling ill, surely Dappleswipe would appreciate any help she received.

Shadepatch was on a Herb Gathering Patrol, and she had decided to bring along her mate, Thrushfleck. She hadn't gathered anything alone this moon, so she hoped toget some more on this patrol, though she mostly brought Thrushfleck along to spend time with him. She had felt a bit watched since she left the camp, and the feeling seemed to get more intense the more she was out, though very slowly.~~~~~ Shadepatch - Secludes herself with her patients (Feathertalon , chocolatemilk7 )-Shadepatch was in the medicine den. Drizzlemimic had gotten greencough, and she had given Heavy some moss earlier. She had decided to stay with her patients, and not knowing what to do, she just sat there repeatedly tapping her paw against the floor with her hardly noticing she was doing it.

Spottedfur : thinks the strengthening herbs taste bitter & catches Foxkit talking about him behind his back Like every day, Spottedfur was given some odd herbs from the medicine cats. He had been told they were to help with his strength as he was growing older and fragile with each day. He couldn't help but wonder– why in StarClan's name were these herbs so bitter tasting? What cat decided that these were normal for him to take? They were awfully disgusting and, in his opinion, weren't meant for a cat to consume.
As he chewed the herbs and swallowed them quickly, the silver speckled tom grumbled to himself. He could hear Foxkit's little mewl not far from him. Suddenly, his ears pricked up at the sound of his name. Stinky?! I'm not stinky, he thought irritably. Well, if that's how it's going to be– Foxkit isn't getting any playtime today with the clan's best hunter!
"Hey, Foxkit! Get over here you little worm," he meowed to the kit, trying to keep a stern look on his face.

Stormmask : Organizing herbs with Hazelpelt + hopes that Pondspeckle notices her (++rom) After the blizzard had arrived came the usual bout of whitecough and greencough. Unfortunately for YewClan, Heavy and Drizzlemimic were both ill and nesting in the medicine cat's den. Stormmask had yet to collect any herbs this moon yet each time she went out, she was seeing StarClan cats' pawsteps in the thick, fluffy white snow. It was obvious that StarClan was trying to tell her something, but she hadn't quite figured it out.
In the meantime, she wanted a second pair of paws to help her organize the herb storage. She needed to watch over Heavy and Drizzlemimic while Shadepatch was out with Thrushfleck. Maybe Pondspeckle was available? After all, she had secretly been hoping the tom would notice her. Although she had seen Hazelpelt earlier– hopefully the cinnamon tabby would be willing to help her. Stormmask padded outside her den, her gaze scouring the camp for the warrior. "Hazelpelt, are you free?" she called out.

jaybun! Mistleheart ( Spars Hazelpelt, and is glad that Foxkit is around +++) Mistleheart stretched after she finished eating a mouse. It was skinny, but it still provided her with food. She felt like doing something fun to pass the time. Heavy was in the healer's den, and had greencough, and Mistleheart was very worried that she wouldn't make it, as she was getting older. The fluffy white-furred warrior noticed Hazelpelt close by, and walked to her as an idea popped in her head. " Hello Hazelpelt, would you like to spar me? It'll be fun!" After Hazelpelt answered, Mistleheart meowed with a snark. " Ok, I'm warning you that I will win, and you will have to search the elders for ticks!" Mistleheart stood in her sparring position, ready to fight and have fun with Hazel. She made sure that she had her claws sheathed, she didn't want to injuries to the ginger brown she-cat. Mistleheart leapt from the ground, her paws outstretched and landed on Hazelpelt back. She then flipped her over, her back touching the ground, and revealed her belly. Then, Mistleheart drawn paws down her belly, mimicking her move against rogues and the badgers where she draws claws into their bellies. Later on the spar, Mistleheart gently picked Hazelpelt's scruff with her jaws, and threw her some short distance away. That is until Hazelpelt ran out of energy, and Mistleheart stood above her, her fluffy white fur shining in the weak leaf-bare sun. The spar was tiring Mistleheart out, and she panted as she tapped Hazelpelt's shoulder with her paw, ending the spar, and making Mistleheart the winner. Once Hazelpelt was on her paws again, Mistleheart looked into her eyes. " I won! Now you have to clear the elders' pelts for ticks!" Mistleheart teased Hazelpelt. "T hat was fun! We should do it again to practice our warrior skills!" After the spar, Mistleheart decided that she would visit the nursery to visit Foxkit and Whorlkit. Ruffling her fur from the effects of the battle, Mistleheart crawled into the nursery to see Foxkit running up to her, her fur bristling with excitement. Whorlkit was nearby, asleep. It was one of the times the ginger brown tom wasn't running around in the nursery. She decided to not wake him. " Good afternoon Foxkit, how are you?" " I'm great thank you!" She squeaked with pride " Yay, a warrior come into the nursery! I wanna spend time with warriors!" Mistleheart purred with delight. It was good to see Foxkit very happy, especially after one of her littermates, Blizzardkit was taken away by a hawk. Foxkit have recovered very well from her sisters death! As Mistleheart spent time with Foxkit, talking about what it is like to be a warrior, she was very grateful that she was around. She couldn't bear to think of losing her as well, and how devastated Bubblingstar would be lose two of his kits. Foxkit was a special kit, and will grow up to be a great warrior, along with her brother Whorlkit. She could see them hunting together as siblings, and grown into warriors. Mistleheart heart's fluttered at the thought of mentoring one of them, having gained a second apprentice after she mentored Drizzlemimic. Though after a while, Mistleheart realized that she wouldn't want to mentor one of them, as other cats haven't have an apprentice; Drizzlemimic, Cinderdapple, Hayfeather, Pondspeckle and... her best friend Slatefoot. Yes... she wanted her best friend to experience the thrills of being a mentor by mentoring one of Bubblingstar's kits, and become deputy and leader one day, like in her dreams. stormshade1 jaybun! Brownie Mistleheart (Has a conversation with Cinderdapple and loses the track of time +++, and border patrol with Frozenlaurel, Bubblingstar, and Pondspeckle) The snow has finally stopped falling. It was the middle of leaf-bare, and while Mistleheart was still fed well, she was really cold. The white-furred woke up from a restless sleep in her nest and padded out of the warrior's den. She spotted Cinderdapple some foxlengths away, and padded up to her with a smile. " Good morning Cinderdapple, how are you today?" Mistleheart mewed to her with her fluffy tail high in the air. " I'm ok, Mistleheart" meowed back Cinderdapple. " Just tired. It's really cold at the moment, so it was hard to fall asleep." Mistleheart let out a purr to comfort the younger warrior "It's ok. I struggled to sleep too. Leaf-bare is the harshest seasons for all the Clans in the territories. PlumClan, BurdockClan, FlowerClan, and our Clan, YewClan." " I would like to spend time with you, if you don't mind Cinderdapple." As Mistleheart and Cinderdapple spent time with each other, they lost track of the time. With a jolt, Mistleheart noticed that the sun has started to dip its position in the sky. It was past sunhigh, and Mistleheart had a border patrol to do for the deputy! " I'm really sorry Cinderdapple" Meowed Mistleheart " but my patrol is starting really soon, we cannot talk for any longer!" Cinderdapple purred with warmth. " It's alright Mistleheart, I've got things to do in the camp anyways, see you later!" Mistleheart purred back as she glanced back at the gray and white furred she-cat, her appearance highly resemblance her deceased uncle, Stemriver. Mistleheart trotted to the three cats waiting for her at the camp exit, the leader Bubblingstar, the warrior who she doesn't trust, Frozenlaurel, and a younger warrior, Pondspeckle. And they left the camp together. As Mistleheart padded through the deep snow with the other patrolling cats to the border of YewClan, the weather got colder, and the clouds deeply thickened. Mistleheart shivered when it started snowing again. A few heartbeats later, the falling snow became heavier and heavier, until Mistleheart And the other warriors had to battle through the heavy snowfall to reach the border. The blizzard was battering into Mistleheart face, sharp, cold, and icy, and made it very hard to see where she was going! " Great StarClan!" yelled Mistleheart at the top of her lungs " There is a blizzard! But we can't go back to camp, because the border needs to be checked!" If we don't mark the borders, the other Clans could use the weak border scents as a good opportunity to steal territory from YewClan!Suddenly, Mistleheart can barely make out cinnamin fur buried deep in the snow, a hole revealing the furry pelt. Her eyes widened, and her ears flattened. " Bubblingstar, Frozenlaurel, and Pondspeckle, there is cat buried in the snow! Lets rescue them and bring them back to camp, where it is warmer!" Mistleheart and the other cats dug out the cat with their paws. Once out of the snow, Mistleheart quickly realized this cat was dead. Their eyes were clouded. She gazed at their terrified stare in their face for a few heartbeats and then spoke. " Poor cat.... Look like they died in the blizzard not long ago! Lets give them a proper warrior burial. Even if they weren't a Clan cat". Mistleheart (Was seen sharing prey at the border with Hayfeather and a kittypet) Mistleheart walked up to Hayfeather, who was waiting for her at the camp entrance. He asked her if she wanted to go hunting with him, which she agreed to. Mistleheart and Hayfeather headed into the forest, looking through the snow for signs of prey hibernating. Shovelling her nose in the snow, Mistleheart picked up the scent of a dormouse deep in the snow. Mistleheart put her head in snow, and grabbed the dormouse with her teeth. Then, she pulled it out of the snow, and broke its neck. Mistleheart and Hayfetaher had other successful catches, before Mistleheart scented a kittypet coming from the border. " Hayfeather, there is a kittypet in our territory!" Shouted Mistleheart with alarm " Lets follow the scent and drive them out! They have no right to be in YewClan's territory!" Mistleheart and Hayfeather followed the scent through the snowy bushes. The closer to the border Mistleheart got, the scent grew stronger. Until right at the border, Mistleheart and Hayfeather came across a starving ginger-furred kittypet! " H...hello... n...n...neeed fooood!" The starving kittypet croaked out. OH NO! This kittypet is starving! What should we do?!Mistleheart stared at the kittypet, conflicted about what she should do. The Warrior Code said that prey caught cannot be shared with cats outside the Clan. But this cat was starving, and without their help, they would surely die! Eventually, Mistlehear turned to Hayfeather to ask for his opinion. " Should I share my dormouse with this cat, and take them in? I really don't want to break the Warrior Code... but... poor kittypet...." Mistleheart mewed softly at Hayfeather. After Mistleheart got a reply from the gray-furred tabby warrior hunting with her, Mistleheart swallowed as she passed her dormouse to the kittypet. Please forgive me StarClan, this kittypet is starving! I can't bear for them to die!" O.. oh how can I thank you!" The kittypet croaked after eating. " I can't j...join your Clan though. I g...got lost and I know my Housefolks will be worried about me! C...can you escort me back home instead? I c...can offer you some of my biscuits!" Mistleheart made a disgusted face at the thought of eating kittypet food. " Yes, we can take you home. But I'm sorry, we don't want your... biscuits as that is what you called it." Meowed Mistleheart, hiding her disgust at the thought of kittypet food. Mistleheart padded into FlowerClan territory with Hayfeather to escort the kittypet home. She really wanted to get out of FlowerClan territory as quickly as possible, as the last thing she wanted for a FlowerClan patrol to see two YewClan cats 'invading' FlowerClan territory with a kittypet! Once the trio of cats reached the Twolegplace, Mistleheart said goodbye to the kittypet, as they can make their own way back to their Twoleg den. As Mistleheart walked with Hayfeather home and carrying prey, Mistleheart prayed that StarClan doesn't take her breaking the Warrior Code badly, especially with a kittypet that could of died. Whorlkit ( Is whining for more food, and complains when Stormmask won't let him hide in the healer's den.) Whorlkit woke up from his nap in the nursery feeling hungry. He wanted to eat his mushed up fresh-kill made by Bubblingstar for him and Foxkit, but he wasn't here to give it to him. He wailed in the nursery, feeling his stomach growling with hunger. What should I do?! I want dad back! I'm so hungry! After thinking, an idea popped in the small tom's head. He would head to the healer's den and hide in there, until one of the two healers find him in there. Then, he would complain of his grumbling and ask them to mush up fresh kill for him, so he can eat. Whorlkit watched at the entrance of the nursery and waited until the coast was clear before scrambling out of the nursery. Whorlkit didn't bother to take in the sights outside, and headed straight for the nursery. Once inside, bitter smell wafted into Whorlkit's nose, and he noticed that it came from the stacks of herbs piled neatly some foxlengths away. Eww! What is that?!Whorlkit turned his head the other way and saw a multicolored she-cat that he didn't really know, Heavy, asleep in her nest and wheezing as she slept. Is she okay?!Whorlkit decided to lay down far away from the herbs, what he thinks is gross, and something told him to stay away from Heavy. Something wasn't right. Trying to ignore his grumbling belly, Whorlkit put his tail on his nose and waited... for a cat to walk into the healer's den. After a few heartbeats, the tiny ginger brown tom heard pawsteps approaching the healer's den. The more senior healer, Stormmask appeared inside. " I'm sooo hungry and dad isn't here!" Complained Whorkit " Can you make me some fresh-kill mush? " When Stormmask asked him what he was doing in the healer's den, Whorlkit whimpered. " Can't you see I'm hungry?! You are a healer, heal me with food! Why can't I hide in the healer's den when I need healing?!"

Heavy »
A cold day such as this was best spent curled up inside the warriors’ den rather than headed outside on a patrol, but no matter the weather Clan life had to continue on, especially when there was a known dangerous dog in the area.
Padding alongside Dappleswipe and Mistleheart, Heavy walked silently along the path they had chosen, a worn down trail that YewClan had used for generations upon generations. Even with the brush low to the ground and dead from the cold, the ground here carried not a single speck of greenery. Pawpads from patrolling warriors had worn this area down to the very ground, etching into the soil the very history of YewClan. Cat upon cat had walked here, and forever more there would always be cats walking this trail whether in search of prey or predator.
It was the threat of a predator that had called the trio of warriors out into the cold today. Just a few days back Bubblingstar had rushed into help Drizzlemimic when a dog must have lunged out of nowhere; Heavy had not been there with the patrol. She only knew the details from what she had gathered from Clan gossip while sharing tongues. And she knew from her own observations that Bubblingstar had come back critically injured while Frozenlaurel had hobbled back to camp and was diagnosed with a broken bone. Heavy felt a huge amount of sympathy toward the former kittypet - she knew exactly how it felt to have a broken bone. She wished him a speedy recovery.
Onward she continued, eager to find out if YewClan’s borders were still being tresspassed on by a dog or not.

Drizzlemimic- Gets saved by Bubblingstar and Frozenlaurel from a dog Drizzlemimic followed the older warriors on patrol, while lagging behind. He had recovered from white cough, but still felt under the weather. It was probably just all in his head, but he still would have preferred to stay behind at camp. Yet, the clan’s borders still needed to be patrolled. Who knows when an enemy cat or a dangerous predator might just so happen to wander in? As he trailed behind Bubblingstar and Frozenlaurel, he heard a rustling sound from some bushes not too far behind them. He stopped a bit, wondering if the others had heard it, but it seemed that just he did. The young warrior decided to investigate, separating from the rest of the patrol. Straying from the path patrols usually followed, he stepped into the deeper snow, scenting the air around him for what made that noise. Could it be..? Drizzlemimic smelled a dog nearby, despite the fact that they had recently chased off a dog on a patrol, just a couple of moons ago. Suddenly, paw steps could be heard quickly rushing towards him, and a blur of brown fuzzy fur jumped from the bushes and pinned the young warrior to the ground. Except, this dog was much bigger than the one Drizzlemimic saw on that patrol. He tried to use the battle move he learned from Mistleheart a few moons ago to flip the dog over and rake its belly, but the enemy was too heavy. As it tried to viciously bite Drizzlemimic, he saw his life flash before his eyes. “Someone help!”, he cried, not knowing how far the patrol has wondered of from him. Drizzlemimic- Border Patrol with Hayfeather and Cinderdapple It had been a few days since the dog attack. Drizzlemimic escaped relatively unharmed, but Bubblingstar was gravely injured, and Frozenlaurel broke a bone. He had gained a lot of respect for the two older cats after that incident. He admired how they rushed into danger and saved his life, even risking their own health. Drizzlemimic wanted to be like that when he became older too. He wanted to be the clan’s most loyal warrior, who faced opponents head on to protect his clan and his friends. However, now, he was patrolling the border with two of his closest clan mates. Cinderdapple, his sister, who he grew up with and trained together, and Hayfeather, who he had become really close to recently. Drizzlemimic was excited to spend more time with Hayfeather. Between getting white cough and being attacked by a dog, he didn’t really get the opportunity. But now, he could freely be around the cat that he…. liked? Admired? Loved..?The trio continued to patrol, around roughly the same area Drizzlemimic was attacked. He looked around and saw some suspicious paw prints, not too far away. Fear quickly rushed his mind. Did the dog come back for him? He quickly became worried, but upon scenting the air, he couldn’t sense any dogs nearby. Still, he alerted the patrol of his worried. “These might belong to the dog… It might have came back. I think it’s best if we stay on guard… just in case.”. Drizzlemimic- Is being begged by Whorlpaw to teach him advanced battle moves Drizzlemimic was sitting quietly in the camp clearing, when he was approached by Whorlpaw, Bubblingstar’s son, who recently became an apprentice. Drizzlemimic wondered what the young cat could want from him. Unexpectedly, Whorlpaw asked the warrior to teach him some advanced battle moves. Drizzlemimic was surprised. There were many cats Whorlpaw could ask for training, so why go to him out of everyone? He had barely been a warrior for a few moons now. ”Are you sure you’re going to the right cat? Isn’t Hazelpelt your mentor? Realistically, anything I could teach you she could as well, but better”, he chuckled. “Still, if you want to, I’d be glad to teach you something!”. Tagging jaybun! Mistleheart (Wonders how Slatefoot is doing, and is frustrated Whorlkit won't take her seriously --) The grip of leaf-bare was starting to lessen, the worst of the storm was gone. Heavy, the cat who raised Mistleheart has recovered from greencough to Mistleheart's joy. It seems StarClan was in play here, saving Heavy from dying to the grasps of the cruel leaf-bare. The kits of the Clan, Foxkit and Whorlkit were nearing very close to their apprentice ceremonies, turning 6 moonns old in the next few sunrises. Mistleheart really hoped that she wasn't chosen, and instead, it is her best friend Slatefoot. Mistleheart wondered how she was doing, and how she was coping in leaf-bare. The cold is enough to dampen the spirits of everycat. Mistleheart decided to pay a visit to the nursery to see the kits before their apprentice ceremony, and stopped grooming. She padded into the nuersery, to see Whorlkit looking very agitated and bored. It seems that he was growing out of the nursery! His hackles was raised when he saw her enter the nursery, clearly worried about something and shouted at her at once. " MISTLEHEART! The elders say that you probably won't be my mentor, but PLEASE MAKE ME YOUR APPRENTICE! You are a great cat and have been visiting us alot, and I don't want any other cat as my mentor!" " Whorlkit!" Meowed Mistleheart, taken aback from the kit's outburst. " It is not up to me to take you on as an apprentice. It is up to Bubblingstar! The other warriors are just as capable as me in teaching apprentices. They are all loyal to the Warrior Code, and that is something that your mentor will teach you!" Whorlkit looked very upset by these words. " But... You are the BEST warrior in the Clan, Mistleheart! You HAVE to teach me! What is even this load of mouse dung, Warrior Code?! I've never heard of it before!" Mistleheart could feel herself boiling up by Whorlkit calling the Warrior Code, mouse dung! But she remained in control of herself. Whorlkit needs to learn, he's still a kit...
" Whorlkit! The Warrior Code is the very reason Clans exist and we aren't rogues! We all live by the Warrior Code, being the best warriors that we can be! And everycat is respectful to the Warrior Code, and you need to too! And I'm just as loyal as the other cats, we all must follow it, under StarClan's eyes!" Mistleheart scolded Whorlkit, her ears twitching. Well, I AM the most loyal warrior of GemClan! What I said to Whorlkit may not be entirely true, but he needs to learn to respect the Warrior Code, like every other cat, and also he must know that I'm not in control in who gets to mentor apprentice. And frankly, I DON'T want to mentor him! I already had apprentice! Other cats need a chance to experience being mentors too! Mistleheart (Is glad that Slatefoot is chosen to become a mentor instead of her, and took the nesting material Foxpaw collected for her new nest in the apprentice's den when she wasn't looking). Mistleheart purred with pride, her heart swelling with joy while sitting in the crowd of cats. She watched as Perchstar gives Foxpaw to her best friend, Slatefoot to train under. Whorlpaw was given under Hazelpelt to train under, which the golden brown she-cat was acting strange for the last moon. Mistleheart was very glad that Slatefoot finally got her chance to become a mentor, not her, as she already has an apprentice. Later this sunrise, Mistleheart noticed some fresh bedding laid in the camp clearing. Mistleheart looked at it curiously. Why have no one noticed this free bedding in the middle of camp?!Mistleheart picked up it up with her teeth, and started carrying it to her nest. Part way through, Bubblingstar's daughter, Foxpaw was running straight at her, her hackles raised and ears flattened. She looked very angry! Woah! What did I do wrong?!" Drop those bedding now, please Mistleheart!" Yowled the ginger-furred apprentice. " They are mine! I'm bringing them to my new nest in the apprentice's den. What makes you think you can take them?!" ' Oh, I'm so sorry!" Mistleheart felt guilty " It was left unattended in the middle of the clearing. I didn't realize they were yours!" " Yes, I had to leave it alone to go to the dirtplace." Foxpaw mewed, clearly calming down. " I'll pass them to you!" Meowed Mistleheart, smiling at the apprentice. Mistleheart passed the bedding to Foxpaw. What she learnt this moon is that if there is something in an obcious location, it probably wasn't free to take. Feathertalon lazzylake Mistleheart (Long patrol with Heavy and Dappleswipe) Mistleheart padded with the deputy, Dappleswipe, and Heavy, the cat who raised her to find the dog that has attacked Bubblingstar earlier the sunrise. Mistleheart was really worried for the elderly ginger-furred leader, and really hoped he would be okay and not lose a life to his injuries. Frozenlaurel, the former kittypet and the cat she doesn't trust was gravely injured by the dog, and diagnosed with a broken bone by the healers. She hoped that he would be okay, but she didn't really cared for him. She was shivering with cold as she walked through the grove of leafless trees to the border of YewClan. After a very long walk along the border of YewClan, Mistleheart could hear yapping in the distance! And she could smell it's stench! " I can hear the dog!" Mistleheart alerted her Clanmates. " Let's quickly follow the sound!" Mistleheart and the others ran towards the source of the noise, and found the dog running around in circles, going in and out of YewClan's borders. She wasn't sure if the dog will go into YewClan's territory, or leave it. " Great StarClan!" mewed Mistleheart breathlessly " the dog is running in circles! I'm not sure where it will go!" " Dappleswipe, Heavy, what should we do?! I don't want this dog to hurt anymore of my Clanmates!" Whorlkit (Is scolded by Mistleheart) Whorlkit whimpered as Mistleheart scolds him. This moon has been very stressful for him, as he was getting SO BORED in the nursery and he felt like nursery was very small. Whorlkit really wanted to go out and explore. But Whorlkit has never heard of the Warrior Code and what it means, so he called it a "load of mouse dung". Why do the Clan cats need to follow a set of rules set by StarClan, the warrior ancestors?! It made no sense to the young tom! But, for now... he must apologise to the adult cat, Mistleheart. " Sorry Mistleheart" mewed Whorlkit " Sorry I called the Warrior Code "mouse-dung", but I don't understand why it is so important?! Why must we follow a set of rules, made by our warrior ancestors? They're dead! We are not. Why can't we have our own way?!" " Also, I'm getting really bored in the nursery! I can't wait until I reach my sixth moon, so I can go out and explore!" Mistleheart was sympathetic to Whorlkit " It's ok Whorlkit, you are still a kit and there is time to learn everything about the Warrior Code. It won't be very long until you are apprenticed, and you can finally explore your territority with your new mentor, and it can be ANY mentor that Bubblingstar assign you to". Whorlkit warmed up to Mistleheart and started purring. " Yes, I can't wait to leave the nursery! And I will do ANYTHING to become the best warrior of YewClan, even gathering moss and gathering ticks from the elders!" I just don't need a set a rules from our ancestors to tell me what to do! But I guess I'll have to learn it for the sake of YewClan...jaybun! Whorlpaw (Apprentice Ceremony, is licking his chest with embarrsment after being praised by Hazelpelt, and jokes with Mistleheart +++) Today was Whorlkit's apprentice ceremony! Whorlkit's tail was quivering with excitement and his heart was beating fast as he joins the crowd of cats sitting under Bubblingstar for his and Foxpaw's apprentice ceremony he just called heartbeats ago. After his sister, Foxkit was renamed Foxpaw and given to the dark gray-furred warrior, Slatefoot to apprentice under, Whorlkit braced himself to be called. He was really happy for his sister, but he knew deep inside that he will be a better warrior than her! That includes EVRYTHING that an apprentice will do! Whorlkit's heart skipped a beat when Bubblingstar called his name. He confidently walked through the crowd of cats and stood in front of the leader. I don't care who becomes my mentor! I just want someone who will teach me everything that I need to know about being a warrior, even the Warrior Code! Then, Whorlkit looked up excitedly as Bubblingstar renamed him to Whorlpaw, and assigned him to the ginger brown she-cat, Hazelpelt! " This cat was a kittypet I think, but I don't care! Any warrior will do! Anyone that would teach me EVERYTHING!" Whorlkit thought as he confidently walk up to his new mentor, Hazelpelt and touched noses with her. " Hello Hazelpelt, I'm going to be the BEST warrior of YewClan! And that includes gathering moss! Can you take me out on a patrol first thing to gather some, so all the cats are comfortable while sleeping and the cats can drink water from them?!" Mewed Whorlpaw very confidently, a fire lit in his aqua blue eyes. When Hazelpelt praised Whorlpaw for his motivation for wanting to do apprentice duties, he felt himself going red. Of course I want to gather moss! How else will I become the best warrior of YewClan?!Whorlpaw licked his chest in embarrasment. " ...Thanks Hazelpelt" mewed Whorlpaw. After his apprentice's duties, Hazelpelt was too busy to take Whorlpaw on a patrol, so he padded up to the fluffy white-furred warrior, Mistleheart to spend time with her. " Hello Mistleheart!" Beamed Whorlpaw brightly " How are you today?!" " Why are frogs happy in newleaf? Oh do you know Mistleheart?!" He added, thinking of a joke to tell her. " I'm good thank you, Whorlpaw, you will become a great warrior one day! Um... I don't know Whorlpaw about the joke, sorry!" Mistleheart mewed, thinking about the answer. " They eat whatever bugs them when newleaf comes! " Shouted Whorlpaw excitedly. Mistleheart burst into laughter after hearing the joke, and it took a few heartbeats for her to settle down again. Whorlpaw and the white-furred she-cat, Mistleheart joked for an hour before Hazelpelt was ready to take him on his first training patrol to gather patrol. And when night came, Whorlpaw will be sleeping in the apprentice's den for the very first time, the den that was left empty for a very long time after Drizzlemimic and Cinderdapple became warriors. jaybun! Whorlpaw (Discussing his nightmares with Hazelpelt while on patrol) Whorlpaw have been struggling to sleep in his new nest in the apprentice's den in the sunrises after his apprentice ceremony. It was very hard to sleep without his father, Bubblingstar by his and Foxpaw's side, keeping him warm and due to this, he was really cold. Especially in leaf-bare, where it was still unusually cold, even with newleaf on the horizon. Whorlpaw was having nightmares in his sleep. As Whorlpaw went out with his new mentor, Hazelpelt to start learning how to hunt, Whorlpaw decided to confide in her about his troubles with sleeping in the apprentice den and his nightmares. " I have been having so much trouble trying to sleep, Hazelpelt!" cried Whorlpaw " I'm very cold without my dad, Bubblingstar sleeping beside me, and I miss having his presence. It is also really cold in the apprentice's den in leaf-bare! I'm having these nightmares with me patrolling beside dad on patrol, and we are ambushed by a group of badgers which kills him right in front of me! Also, I'm having nightmares of learning the news that dad was taken by a hawk while at camp doing camp duties, like the hawk that took my dead sister, Blizzardkit away! " Whorlpaw burst into tears as he talked about his nightmares. He didn't want to learn to hunt now, as memories flashed in his head of Mistleheart telling him that his sister was dead, him not understanding death back then, and also Foxpaw's terrified face as a kit, when she was carried back to camp from the adventure outside the camp! " I'm really sorry Hazelpelt, I don't want to learn how to hunt this sunrise! I'm so upset about my nightmares! Can we go tomorrow instead?" When Hazelpelt refused, saying that he can't miss out on training this sunrise, Whorlpaw's spirits was dampened. But then when she offered him to be able to choose whatever lesson he wanted to learn today, the young apprentice's ears perked up. " Can you teach me to gather moss more efficiently in the damp cave in our territory? It is so relaxing and so helpful for the Clan, but I'm so slow at it! I'd rather do that then hunt today! I can learn how to hunt tomorrow instead." chocolatemilk7 Whorlpaw (Asks Drizzlemimic to teach him a compleex battle move) In the first few sunrises after his apprentice ceremony, Whorlpaw wanted to learn everything to know about being a warrior, and that included complex battle moves! He strotted confidently up to Drizzlemimic, a fluffy gray and white warrior aboit teaching him a battle move. He wanted to be the best warrior that YewClan has ever seen before! " Hello Drizzlemimic" Meowed Whorlpaw confidently. " Can you teach me some really complex battle move please? I really want to be a great warrior of YewClan!" The white and gray warrior looked a surprised and confused as he asked him. " Are you sure you're going to the right cat? Isn't Hazelpelt your mentor? Realistically, anything that I could teach you she could teach as well, but better " the fluffy gray tom chuckled. " Yes!" Shouted Whorlpaw in an outburst. " ANY warrior can teach me moves that will make me the best warrior! So I can defeat my opponents easily in spars, and fight of rogues, foxes, dogs, and badgers! I don't think Hazelpelt know everything, she was a kittypet afterall. And you have been in the Clan since you were born!" Whorlpaw awaited Drizzlemimic's response, and his cool new battle move to teach him! OOC: Semester B at university has started for me and I will be quite busy! On Monday (Tuesday in my time zone), I will get my prompts up, but probably only the moon events and patrol events, and not relationship pips and thought, unless someone tags me with theirs. On Thursday (Friday in my time zone), however, I will be able to get my full prompts (moon events, patrols, relationship pips and thoughts out, as it is the weekend for me and I don't have university. Brownie , I hope you are okay with that. When my study break starts I will go on a short hiatus again, but seeing as dewbranch is on hiatus for a summer holiday for three weeks, is it okay that I can keep my cats, but users can NPC them until I return? Thank you.

Drizzlemimic- Is being begged by Whorlpaw to teach him advanced battle moves Drizzlemimic was pleasantly surprised to hear that Whorlpaw was genuinely interested in learning something from him. He dreamed of being a mentor one day, but he knew he was too young to be given an apprentice. The fact that there were no kits currently in the clan also didn’t help. Maybe this will help me learn how to teach! the young warrior thought to himself. Then, Drizzlemimic focused on the other part of Whorlpaw’s sentence: “you have been in the clan since you were born!”. While it’s true that he only remembered his life in YewClan, he wasn’t actually clan born, as his mother was a FlowerClan cat. Still, the young apprentice probably didn’t know that, and Drizzlemimic was sure his assumptions about kittypets would eventually stop naturally, especially with Hazelpelt as his mentor. Drizzlemimic tried to think of any complex battle moves he learned from his apprenticeship. He remembered a few, but the one that came to mind most vividly was the one Mistleheart taught him a few moons ago. “Alright then! Um, so, this is a move I learned from my former mentor, Mistleheart. I’m sure you know her, I’ve seen you talking to her a couple of times. Come to think of it, she also learned it from her own mentor, Spottedfur, so I guess this is a move passed down from mentor to apprentice between generations” he laughed. “Well, I guess you’re not really my apprentice, but I’ll still teach it to you!” The fluffy tom explained to Whorlpaw how to flip over his opponent and rake their belly with their claws. He also mentioned that this move was not to be used to kill, as an honorable warrior should never have to take the life of another cat, unless absolutely necessary. Tagging Sapphirejas

Stormmask : Burdock root with Slatefoot, Shadepatch & Foxpaw Stormmask shivered against the cold weather as the snowdrift slipped beneath her paws. She and Shadepatch needed extra help today as they were gathering burdock root. So, they chose Slatefoot and her new apprentice, Foxpaw, to tag along. Hopefully the two didn't mind joining them for a bit– gathering herbs was similar to hunting anyways.
Her sleep lately had been poor because the grey tabby had been tossing and turning in her nest. The voices of StarClan had entered her dreams multiple times. They had something to say, something to tell her, but Stormmask was stuck figuring it out. Hopefully a StarClan member could give her some hints.
"This way," she meowed with a flick of her tail, pointing towards a short yew tree. "Usually the burdock roots can be found next to this tree. Hopefully the roots are well hidden."
The medicine cat came to a halt once she reached the yew tree, its branches covered in snow. She knew that getting the burdock root out would be difficult, but it was a necessity for Bubblingstar and Frozenlaurel. If their clanmates were to recover from their injuries, this herb would be one of the best to heal them. "We need to dig around here. It may take us a while, but we need the burdock root for Bubblingstar and Frozenlaurel," Stormmask told the patrol. Without saying anything else, she began digging through the layers of snow.

Slatefoot »
"Slatefoot, you will be mentor to Foxpaw. Train her well."
Bubblingstar's announcement still rang in the molly's mind. The awe she had felt when her former mentor had looked down at her after motioning for Foxkit to step forward had sent a wave of emotions rolling over her, daring to knock her off her paws and send her drowning into the abyss. Had Bubblingstar finally decided to give her an apprentice? Was he entrusting her to take care of his daughter and teach her the ways of a warrior? Perhaps he had been waiting to give her an apprentice because he knew, deep down, that she was the right cat to educate his own kit.
Train her well, Bubblingstar had told her. And train her well Slatefoot would do.
Once the ceremony had ended and cats had gathered into their individual groups, Slatefoot had promised Foxpaw to teach her everything she could ever imagine. She had promised to make training fun and exciting, and all the more, with a charming smirk, Slatefoot had puffed out her chest and promised Foxpaw that she'd make sure her apprentice was a warrior before she knew it. Slatefoot had lost her chance to become a warrior early, falling behind both of her littermates, but she wasn't going to let the same fate happen to young Foxpaw.
Which was exactly why Slatefoot had volunteered her and Foxpaw to help escort the medicine cats.
On the surface this task didn't seem much fun to a warrior and her apprentice, but Slatefoot knew just how important it was to help the Clan's healers - without them sickness and injury would take them all to StarClan, and with injured Clanmates among them, searching for herbs was more important than ever. Not only that, but this would be a good way to give Foxpaw a tour of the territory as well; all apprentices needed to know the lay of the land they called home, and in escorting Stormmask and Shadepatch in search of borage, Foxpaw would get to learn every tree and every bush that made up their territory. Slatefoot could even show her new apprentice how to track prey if the opportunity arose - just because they were on a medicine cat patrol didn't mean they couldn't stop for a quick hunt if prey was at their paws.
Following the two medicine cats as they travelled through the woods, Slatefoot kept an eye on Foxpaw, making sure the young feline was following along. She also wanted to make sure that if Foxpaw had any questions whatsoever, that she could get an answer to them right away. But it was Stormmask who spoke first, Slatefoot's attention drawn to the gray tabby as she spoke. Up ahead stood a singular, small yew tree, its roots covered in a thick layer of snow. If digging was what they needed to do, then digging was what they would do.
Slatefoot motioned for Foxpaw to follow. "Come on, let's help get some burdock roots out, but be careful," she warned the apprentice, shooting her a glance that was both serious and playful - a challenge. This was an important mission, but importance was always made fun by issuing a challenge. "You don't want to dig so quickly that you accidentally shred a root with your claws, but we also don't want to be out here all day, either." Not with this cold weather. Slatefoot's pelt fluffed as she began sticking a paw deep into the snow, pushing it back. "Use your paws like this," she instructed, demonstrating to Foxpaw for a few moments before adding, "If you collect more roots than I can, I'll let you have first pick of the fresh-kill pile when we get back."

|| Thrushfleck - Injured Bird Hunting Patrol - /w: Pondspeckle [ stormshade1 ] ||
Thrushfleck may not have been the one to notice the injured bird, or really the one designated to lead the hunting patrol- but that didn't stop the tom from throwing all of his effort into the hunt. During the cold moons it was harder and harder to find prey. What little trails they found turned them both up empty-pawed. A frustrating thought that did leave his claws unsheathed and buried into the dirt and frost that covered the earth beneath him. It was reassuring that the prey pile was thankfully still full, well stocked before the keaf bare fell upon them- but they still had duties to uphold. Tilting his head to the sky, he tasted the air, his nose sniffing the best it could for the slightest of scents. Almost scrunched up in disappoint from the sting of the cold as he finally tilted his head towards Pondspeckle. " I can barely smell anything with this cold. Keeps making me want to sneeze. You having any luck? "

Pondspeckle Patrol (grimmreminder )
Pondspeckle was determined to do well on this hunt. He had to help pull the Clan through leafbare. His leader and his father were both injured, having had chased away a dog from camp and gotten hurt in the process. Bubblingstar had only gotten a bite, but Frozenlaurel had gotten a broken bone. He would make sure to visit him in the medicine den.
The two cats on the patrol had been out there for what felt like hours, every lead turning out to be nothing. The best they’d gotten was a scrawny mouse, not even enough to feed a kit, let alone an apprentice or warrior. Speaking of apprentice, Bubblingstar’s two kits had graduated from being a kit to being a warrior. Pondspeckle wasn’t upset that he hadn’t gotten an apprentice from that litter, but he still wished he had. And he still wished that leafbare hadn’t come with so many losses, that the third kit could be there to be apprentice with her littermates.
“I’m not having much more luck than you, I’m afraid.” Pondspeckle replied to the other tom’s question. But then something made him stop in his tracks. “Follow me.” Pondspeckle told Thrushfleck. Pondspeckle followed the scent trail and sure enough, at the end of it was a massive bird. A raven, he thought. It looked to have been injured by something – a hawk, maybe? The tom easily caught and killed it, the raven too injured to fly, and together the two cats carried it back to camp.
(One of these days I will have to change Pond’s description from a kit description to a warrior description. I’ll do it eventually.)
