hey comet, please don't gatekeep the roleplay, especially in such a rude way. ]] [[ how the heck did I not realise that was what I was doing I am actually oblivious ]]just leave the answering questions to me. I have the thread bookmarked to keep up to date on urgent matters and communicating with new members (or any member with a question about the roleplay) is what I do as the moderator of it. I know you want to be helpful, but having other members try and answer questions only makes it more confusing and isn't very helpful. As for the tone of your messages, please just take a moment to think about what you are saying before you post. You can't always understand how someone else is going to interpret your words, but you can try and ensure you are being polite and respectful of other people's time and mistakes. If you're feeling emotional when making a response, perhaps take a moment to step away and think before you hit post. It is very hard, however, to construe your previous message as anything but a direct insult and I won't tolerate outward rudeness on this thread as it is against the rules. This is an official warning, so please try and make sure it doesn't happen again. I also felt your earlier message directed at me was disrespectful, so this isn't out of nowhere. The battlecat forum should not be anyone's top priority nor should it be taken so seriously that you feel the need to belittle someone who wants to join. I know I try and manage this roleplay somewhat strictly, particularly in terms of communication and activity, but if you have any issues with how it is managed, that is something to be discussed (politely) through a DM with me, not here. ]]

Frozenlaurel -x-----------x-
Herb gathering was simply one of those tasks that needed to be done, and even if it wasn't particularly exciting being a medicine cat escort (he wasn't exactly hoping that his fighting skills would be needed on this trip, after all) the break from hunting and border patrols were nice.
Besides, Frozenlaurel has been thinking about StarClan more and more over the last few moons, especially after the entire rabbit poisonings and with Hayfeather's... uncomfortable amount of wounds that left his daughter in the healer's den.
Another reason these herb gathering missions were so important.
He'd rather ask Stormmask, all things considered. Everyone in YewClan agreed that she had a strong connection to their warrior ancestors--whatever that meant, Frozenlaurel wasn't quite sure yet--but he'd never found the right time to ask Stormmask about her experiences, whereas now, with Shadepatch, there wasn't much else to talk about. So as they trotted through the forest, he asked: "Hey, Shadepatch, what happens when you see StarClan? Like, how do you know you aren't just making it up in your head?"

Heavy »
Narrowing her eyes and unsheathing her claws, Heavy slowly eased her way along the ground, carefully placing her paws tail, conscious of how low her tail was. Just a fox-length away a squirrel was nibbling on an acorn, its bushy tail flicking happily as it filled its stomach with the nut clutched in its little paws. Seeing the squirrel now, being so close to it, Heavy couldn’t believe she had missed the creature until Hayfeather had spotted it and signaled for Heavy to take note. The young tom was a rather helpful warrior, and Heavy was thankful for his attention to detail. Had he not spotted the squirrel, the patrol may have passed by a chance at a catch.
One more pawstep, a quick calculation of the distance, a single flex of her claws…
The senior warrior pushed off the ground with her hind legs, quickly tackling the squirrel before it even knew what had hit it. Skillfully she nipped the creature’s neck, dispatching it with a clean bite. Proudly she drew her head up, the squirrel hanging limply from her jaws, still warm and fresh. She’d have to bury it somewhere to dig back up later - night was falling, dusky shadows dancing across the ground and casting long shadows that darkened the forest floor, but prey was surprisingly abundant for this time of season and this time in the evening. Heavy, Hayfeather, and Thrushfleck would be mouse-brained to return back to camp when the pickings were still as thick as they were. If they could hunt well and bring back a large haul of prey, then the Clan may not have to worry about going hungry in these coming moons.
Though she was more than willing to stay out a while longer, Heavy wanted to make sure her patrolmates were okay with that idea. Setting the squirrel down at her paws, she turned to Hayfeather and Thrushfleck. "How do you two feel hunting a bit longer? The sun isn't completely gone just yet, and I'm sure there's more prey about." Birdsong still filtered through the air and leaves scuffled around - more squirrels were sure to be out, and it sounded as if mice were darting about somewhere nearby as well. Surely the three of them would be able to bring back enough prey to feed the Clan for a few days.[ will hopefully get slate's reply up tomorrow <3 ]

|| Thrushfleck - Patrol at Dusk - /w: Heavy, Hayfeather [ Feathertalon whispering ] ||Thrushfleck mused the question for a few mere moments, the birdsong light upon his own ears and heart. They had been hunting for a while sure, and while they had a few decent catches- Hayfeather's observation and Heavy's prompt kill of a squirrel to show for it, they could always deal with more. Especially with growing young kits and the colder moons that were inevitably coming soon enough. " Yeah sure thing, I mean- I don't think I've been able to keep up too much with you two. Time for me to play catch up. With the birds as noisy as they are right now, it definitely seems like there's some about. We can probably find some well enough. Maybe, if we try hard enough, we can even find a rabbit. Or is that just wishful thinking? " he laughed softly as he sniffed the air taking in the scents all around him. One thing was certain, he was definitely right about the birds. Even without climbing around the tree branches he could catch the scent of them on the wind. Most he couldn't discern right away by mere scent alone, aside from the beloved black birds that his mate so adored and the information simply.. stuck. " I think there's some birds nearby. " he commented in a lower voice, turning towards the direction the wind carried the scent. " Leave this kill to me. " || Thrushfleck - Jokes with Shadepatch - /w: Shadepatch [ cometchaos ] || " Hey there cutie whatcha up to? " he purred aloud as he not so stealthily stalked his way into the medicine den for a quick visit. " Did you eat already? I know you've been super focused on your work today, so I thought I'd bring you a meal if you're hungry. " he clarified as he glanced around to whatever she was doing. " I mean, after all, heh- whats with all the thrush? " he was grinning now, as he sat carefully on the ground, allowing his tail to rest and curl around Shadepatch's frame. Gently, he nudged her shoulder with his own as he made a playful paw swipe to her ears. " Did you get or did it fly over your head? Haha! Cause its.. my name and a bird. I know I know, its stupid. I just get the feeling you could use a little more fun right now. Don't go robin me of my time with my mate, okay? " he would stop there, knowing his puns were bad enough as it was. Though, at the very least, it did make him laugh.

Dappleswipe
Border Patrol with Bubblingstar, Mistleheart, and Drizzlemimic Dappleswipe kept her pace evenly with her leader's. It wasn't often that she led a patrol with Bubblingstar, and since he now had little ones to take responsibility for, this patrol was one she would cherish. YewClan’s newest warrior Drizzlemimic weaved around the forest with his previous mentor, Mistleheart. Scouting near their allies’ border had been rather uneventful so far until Mistleheart bounded off.
What was that about? Dappleswipe bristled and issued a defensive stance. A few brief, tense heartbeats later, the white and gray molly returned. All that fuss… for a squirrel?
“It’s leaf-fall, Mistleheart. There's going to be rustling sounds everywhere!” The deputy chided lightly with a twitch of her whiskers. It amused her to think that the crunch of leaves underfoot would be associated with some intrusion.
Soon the group was nearing the bright colored orchard of their neighbors. Speaking of which, the YewClan patrol had found their match. Pairs of suspicious eyes stared them down, notably belonging to a dusky brown and white she-cat and a primarily white striped tabby. A younger light gray tom followed behind, presumably an apprentice to the latter.
Drizzlemimic smoothly settled down the crackling tension with Fawnstar’s news. Dappleswipe cast a sneaky grin at Bubblingstar. Looks like he wouldn't be the only leader with his paws full this leaf-bare! However, Dappleswipe recalled another grave piece of information. PlumClan’s deputy, Duskfeather, was inflicted with a bout of whitecough. She desperately hoped he would pull through in the colder seasons.
The striped tabby of PlumClan dipped their head politely. Dappleswipe recognized them being forced up a tree by a dog moons prior. “Thank you. I hope her kits can wait after mine become apprentices. The nursery would be rather cramped. Have a safe leaf-fall!” tags:jaybun! Sapphirejas chocolatemilk7 ooc: (Willowmouse, Rindlestripe, and Fogpaw cameos <3 also welcome back, sapphire! Cinderdapple Healer's Den | w/ Stormmask Sand Still has a runny nose, gets a task from Stormmask
Two moons is enough. Cinderdapple thought to herself crossly as she padded briskly back into camp. It was bad enough that she made a fool out of herself in front of her patrol and on the PlumClan border, there was no need to continue living uncomfortably outside of that embarrassment. Last moon when seeking out Stormmask's help, Cinderdapple quickly realized at the healer's response that it had not been a good time to bother her with anything less than urgent, which was understandable, it's been a very strenuous few moons on the healers so the warrior had quickly changed her mind about bothering them and left her nose as it was. She had assumed that maybe time would take care of it, or maybe even the weather might dry it up as it got colder, but that actually had quite the opposite effect. The cold only made her dark nose run more. The frustration she had with it probably did not help the molly get rid of it faster. Cinderdapple had a feeling stressing over it was what was keeping her mildly ill these past 2 moons.
While a runny nose was less than urgent, it was terribly annoying, and as Cinderdapple turned her paws in the direction of the healer's den she prayed that they would be understanding and helpful. At least the latter of the two if nothing else.
In a deja vu sort of way, Cinderdapple poked her owl-patterned face through the entrance again to find Stormmask, her green eyes locking with the medicine cat's yellow ones, "Hey, Stormmask. I know I wanted to bother you about it before but my nose just won't stop running! It's driving me madder than a tick-ridden elder - I lost prey today sneezing mid-jump." The gray-rosette spotted molly sighed, breaking her eye contact to gaze down at her fluffy white paws in embarrassment. Cinderdapple knew she was a skilled hunter, it was one of her best qualities in her opinion. To lose any prey as they approached leaf-bare made her nervous, especially over something so trivial as a mild sickness that she should have handled the last moon.
Cinderdapple returned her emerald gaze back to the healer, "I know you're probably busy but I'll help with anything you need in return! I'm done patrolling for the day."
[OOC: I'll get one for the patrol up tomorrow!]

jaybun! lazzylake chocolatemilk7 Mistleheart (On border patrol with Bubblingstar, Dappleswipe, and Drizzlemimic) Mistleheart continuing padding with the others after she mewed about her frightening encounter with the squirrel. " It's leaf-fall Mistleheart. There's going to be rustling sounds everywhere!" The deputy Dappleswipe meowed to the white and gray warrior with a twitch of her whiskers. Mistleheart let out a purr of comfort from the deputy's voice. " Thank you for reassuring me about rustling sounds in the forest. I'll remember it for next time! Let's continue the patrol though." After a short while, Mistleheart and the other cats reached the border of PlumClan's territory. Mistleheart gave the air a sniff, and immediately, the smell of a PlumClan patrol wafted into her nostrils. " I can smell a PlumClan patrol!" Cried Mistleheart, frightened and raising her hackles. Three PlumClan cats jumped out of the bushes. The leader of the patrol was a dusky brown white and brown she-cat, followed by a white striped tabby, and then a light gray tabby, the latter of the patrol and likely an apprentice. Mistleheart was about to shout at the cats before she imagined Stemriver watching from StarClan. She knew he would not approve of her being aggressive to the cats of a Clan that were allies with YewClan. Mistleheart lowered her hackles and calmed down. " Hello PlumClan cats" Mewed Mistleheart uneasily, trying to not start tension between them " What brings you here on a fine leaf-fall day?" Mistleheart's former apprentice, Drizzlemimic also spoke " So I heard from the last Gathering Fawnstar is expecting, right? Congratulations! You must be proud of these kits!" The PlumClan cats greeted Mistleheart back, a bit taken back by her aggressive body language from earlier, and also greeted Drizzlemicmic. Then, the PlumClan cats continued talking about Fawnstar's new kits. Mistleheart's heart swelled with joy at the thought of three kits running around in the PlumClan's nursery. However, the PlumClan cats also reported that their deputy, Duskfeather was ill with whitecough. Mistleheart was worried by that news, she hoped he would pull through in the leaf-bare moons. By now, Mistleheart was cheerful, and no longer wary of the PlumClan cats. " Congratulations in the new kits in the Clan, Rindlestripe, Willowmouse and Fogpaw! Our Clan has kits too! Our leader, Bubblingstar had a litter of three kits even though he is old, but he is very proud of them!" Mistleheart chirped proudly, without revealing that he had kits with a cat outside the Clan. " Oh... I'm sorry about your deputy, Duskfeather being sick! I hope he gets better soon!" She added. " Thank you." The PlumClan cat named Willowmouse dipped their head politely to the YewClan patrol. " I hope her kits can wait after mine become apprentices. The nursery would be rather cramped. Have a safe leaf-fall." " I wish you good luck for your Clan's kits" Meowed the dusky brown she-cat named Rindlestripe Mistleheart smiled at the dusky brown tabby and the white tabby. " Thank you." She purred " I hope the best for your Clan's kits too. May StarClan light your paths!"

Shadepatch - Herb Gathering with Frozenlaurel [ Brownie ]-"Well, let me remember, just a sec, hmmmmmmmmmmmm, ok so, I'm gonna start with the second mini-question to get started, what if you're visited by a cat you don't know, but the rest of the clan still knows about them? And about what happens when you see Starclan, the place is kinda like a blue- Well it's kinda like the sky, just all around and not just up in the air? Like a mix of the night sky with the stars, and the day sky with the blue, you get it?" Shadepatch said in the explanation that was also half a question.Shadepatch - Jokes with Thrushfleck [ grimmreminder ]-Shadepatch purred at the puns for a while, just silently sitting there with Thrushfleck, and then remembered a funny little story. "This is random, but I have a question. You know how burdock root is commonly used to treat rat bites? I got curious about something, what would happen if you put the burdock root on the rat instead? I mean, what's the rat gonna do bite you? It's already been treated!" Shadepatch said, before seemingly remembering something.
"That reminds me, when I was a burdockclan apprentice, a rat got into camp and I just. Threw a burdock root at it. And knocked it out cold. Pretty much the whole clan was laughing." She laughed at her own story, looking at Thrushfleck for their reaction.Shadepatch - Hopes there aren't dogs nearby and surprises Mistleheart with something nice [ Sapphirejas ]-Shadepatch sat, for some reason by the Rushing Creek, surprisingly thinking sbout her past, for once. She was thinking about her mother, Whisperdream. A rustle in one of the bushes made her jump at least one and a half fox-lengths into the air, when a squirrel ran out of the bush. Shadepatch had landed in the Rushing Creek, and was standing on the rocks, looking incredibly startled over a squirrel. Shadepatch silently got out of the Rushing Creek, and sat down, this time facing the bushes. She hoped there weren't dogs nearby, fior a reason that she knew but didn't want to think about.
After a minute, she decided to go back to camp. Along the way, Shadepatch noticed a cool stick. 'I am gonna give this stick to Mistleheart' she though, so she went and picked up the stick. After a bit of walking, Shadepatch got back to camp. She walked up to Mistleheart, dropping the stick. "I found this cool stick--" She said, looking as if she was staring into the cat's soul--"Do you want this cool stick? I'm giving you this cool stick." She walked off after the...probably confusing conversation.

Stormmask : Moss with Hazelpelt As scattered rain thumped across YewClan’s territory, Stormmask made the decision to take Hazelpelt with her. She desperately needed to gather moss as she and Shadepatch had thrown the dry moss out. It was her only chance to find moss for she had found burdock and oak leaves two sunrises ago.
While the rain passed by them, the dark grey tabby glanced at her warrior escort. She realized she didn’t know Hazelpelt all that well. It was rare when they interacted if at all. Stormmask blinked raindrops out of her silver gaze, searching each tree for moss. "All we need to gather today is moss, Hazelpelt. It should be fairly easy," she meowed, unsure of what else to say.
[ tags: jaybun! ]
Stormmask : giving Cinderdapple a task Ever since her patrol with Hazelpelt, Stormmask had gotten a runny nose. It seemed that choosing to head out in the rain had not been a good idea. Nonetheless, she wasn't going to allow it to bother her– she had other duties to prepare for especially with leafbare coming up. Stormmask needed as many herbs as the healers could find for possible outbreaks of greencough or worse.
At the sound of Cinderdapple's voice, the medicine cat turned to meet her gaze. She listened intently to the young warrior's complaint, coming to a pause as she mulled over what herb to give to the grey and white spotted she-cat. "Sorry to hear that, Cinderdapple. I can give you some lavender to smell for a bit. It may lessen the runny nose. If it gets worse, we can try catmint," the dark grey tabby meowed in response. "If it's any condolence to you, my nose is running too."
The healer wondered what Cinderdapple could do for her. She supposed she could help her with Scarletdrift's ticks. She could even help her organize the burdock and oak leaves she had gathered too. "Want to help me organize some burdock and oak leaves?" she offered as her gaze lingered for an answer.

Cinderdapple Hunting at Green Pond | w/ Pondspeckle & Slatefoot stormshade1 Feathertalon Is worried others are judging her, attempting to hunt on PlumClan territory
Cinderdapple had been riding the high of the hunting competition last moon, it boosted the young warrior's confidence in her abilities and she had liked to think that the prey pile was always stocked lately with her help. It was satisfying to watch her clanmates pull, what Cinderdapple knew were catches she made, down from the heap. She was determined to let this patrol be no different, even with the distraction of her still runny nose. Her dark green eyes were constantly scanning the forest, gray-rosette ears swiveling to and fro. The small scuffles of tiny paws across fallen leaves and the tempting scent of mice were almost enough to make Cinderdapple stop to catch everything she had heard or seen. What she really wanted to find though was a catch that would impress her clanmates - the small prey could be saved for the more harsh season to come.
With more senior warriors on this patrol, Cinderdapple felt that she had to continue to prove herself. She may be past apprentice-hood, but, that was no reason to begin neglecting her skills. YewClan was an extremely mixed group of cats, with almost every clanmate having a different background it felt like. Cinderdapple included. She didn't wish to be associated with half-clan-ness though. It was an identity associated with divided loyalties in her eyes - Bubblingstar's kits were no exception. They would need to prove themselves too.
The molly shook her owl-patterned head to bring herself out of daydreaming, focusing her attention back on surveying YewClan's territory. Before long, the types of trees started to look more like the orchard trees of PlumClan's territory and Green Pond was in sight. Cinderdapple never bothered fishing here as the algae was much too dense to even see the prey swimming below the surface. Finally, her nose detected and ears heard a large hare nibbling on bits of grass beyond the scent-line divider, just over a bramble-bush. The gray and white warrior halted, keeping her eyes locked on the prey but motioning with her fluffy tail towards the creature so that Slatefoot and Pondspeckle wouldn't move too abruptly and scare it off on accident. She moved quickly into a hunting crouch, knowing that perhaps hunting on PlumClan territory wouldn't be the best idea if one of their patrols stopped by, but Cinderdapple didn't not care much about leaving food for the other clans. YewClan was the only one she was responsible for helping. Cinderdapple didn't ask for help in cornering the rabbit either, she didn't imagine Slatefoot and Pondspeckle would want to assist in breaking the rules.
She placed her paws one after the other in a silent, steady crawl towards the hare. She needed to get close enough to clear the bush. Her small frame was an advantageous one for going underneath or through undergrowth, but this bush was so dense she could hardly seen through it. Cinderdapple would have to focus greatly to clear it. Once she had reached her jumping point, she shifted her weight towards her hind legs only to feel her nose disagree with the plan as her white paws started to leave the ground. Fox-dung! The molly cursed to herself as her whole body shook with a powerful sneeze, completely throwing off her focus and balance and sending her jump straight forward rather than up and over.
Cinderdapple's pelt was so hot from embarrassment at how ridiculous that stunt must have looked to Slatefoot and Pondspeckle she debated whether or not to even leave the bramble bush that scraped at her sides. It would be much better to at least try and get this over with as quickly as possible and head back to camp. Her sneeze surely caused all prey nearby to scatter. As she worked her paws against the branches to push herself back out, Cinderdapple realized with horror she was stuck. "So...you're really going to find this funny..."she tried to force out a chuckle, "I think I'm stuck." She could only imagine the view that the her clanmates had: the back half of Cinderdapple sticking out of a bush.
[ OOC: wow that was like in as many words as possible sorryyy]
Cinderdapple Healer's Den | w/ Stormmask Sand Still has a runny nose, is getting a task from Stormmask
Cinderdapple's green eyes widened in surprise that she wasn't being turned away this time, but thank StarClan for Stormmask. The warrior padded into the healer's den at her clanmate's offer of both assistance and a task. At least she could do something for Stormmask in return. She nodded her white and gray head in agreement before even answering, "Yes, absolutely! Let me help you first." The molly offered, sitting beside the gray tabby and looking down at the herbs before them. She could hardly tell the difference between any of them really, especially with leaf-fall drying up some of the ones that had been picked before the weather turned colder."I'm sorry to hear about your nose too, maybe there's something going around?" Cinderdapple pondered, Did you try the lavender and stuff already? Did you find that it helped any?" If not, Cinderdapple could hope that maybe it alleviated some of it. Anything would be better than letting another incident like earlier happen again. At least she was in the healer's den now, she could avoid the embarrassment of having to face Pondspeckle and Slatefoot in the open. Hopefully her pelt didn't have too many brambles in it still.

ooc;; should i tag folks in my responses? i haven't been since i don't wanna flood people's notifs, but lemme know if it's helpful! BUBBLINGSTAR - Speaking with Whorlkit! Bubblingstar chuckled as Whorlkit rushed over to meet him, eyes crescenting fondly down at his son. He had been so worried when he first brought the kits back to Yewclan- they had been so tiny! But they had grown so much just in a few moons. " I'm sorry I'm can't visit more often," he leaned down to press his nose against Whorlkit's little head, " maybe I'll have more time to spend with you and your littermates soon." If all went well, perhaps Dappleswipe would feel ready to fill his role soon... The pale ginger tom huffed a laugh as Whorlkit swiped at the air. I'm going to be the best warrior that the clan has ever seen! " Of that, I have no doubt." Bubblingstar smiled, though his heart panged at the thought of his kits being so close to beginning training. How did any of his clanmates with children stand it? BUBBLINGSTAR - On the border with Mistleheart, Drizzlemimic, & Dappleswipe! He returned Dappleswipe's cheeky look with a small glance, glad to see his warriors in such high spirits. Plumclan seemed to be doing well for the most part, Bubblingstar hoped that would continue through the winter. Much as he was glad to hear another clan fostering more kits, the elder tom was well aware every new mouth to feed heightened the stress on their resources. It only took one bad season to make cats desperate. Yewclan was no exception. Dipping his head politely to the Plumclan patrol, Bubblingstar picked up their route once again; signaling to the accompanying warriors it was time to move on with his tail. Hopefully they could continue meeting like this without incident in the future as well.

HAZELPELT - Gathering moss with Storm-mask! (gives her a genuine compliment) " Sure thing!" Hazelpelt chirped in reply to Storm-mask. Was that too much? Jeez, she really didn't know the other molly well- something that made the former kittypet's stomach knot in guilt. The medicine den was an unpleasant reminder of how dangerous living out here really was; and Hazel tried to avoid spending as much time there as she could. Spurred on, she put on her best smile, " you know, I really appreciate the work you do Storm-mask. Things would be a lot harder without you." There! It was the truth, and a compliment! The perfect combination in Hazelpelt's opinion. She hoped Storm-mask agreed... maybe she came on too strong? No, no, that was a totally normal thing to say. Gosh, she needed to stop doubting herself so much.

Dappleswipe
Hates the selection of prey Doesn't tell Frozenlaurel about the feather on his nose Dappleswipe stood at the entry to the warrior's den, ears flicking. Her copper gaze was hungry as she eyed the fresh-kill pile. But the selection looked rather measly. The deputy picked at a couple of scraps and bones before turning her nose. A couple of minnows looked her dead in the eyes. Dappleswipe curled her lip. She couldn’t eat fish anymore without thinking of… Hunterswipe.
The elder notoriously despised seafood and would complain about the smell when given the chance. Dappleswipe first thought he was being melodramatic, but after he succumbed to his infection, there was always a bitter, nearly suffocating aftertaste when she ate. Some hunting patrols would definitely need to be issued soon.
Dappleswipe raked her eyes across the camp, determining which partners should accompany her. Frozenlaurel was relaxing near the warrior's dens. Perfect. The deputy padded over and made her move.
“Frozenlaurel, would you like to join a hunting patrol with me? I hear catching squirrels would be plentiful along Rainfang’s Point.” The deputy gave the silver-furred warrior a look. Was that a feather stuck to his nose? Must've been leftovers from that sparrow they ate. Dappleswipe's belly rumbled. We’d better get a move on. Frozenlaurel would shake the feather off eventually.
Washes Whorlkit Dappleswipe was eating a squirrel near the nursery. She was watching Whorlkit making circles around the den, and purred in contentment. The ginger tom seemed to be causing a lot of mischief around camp, and Dappleswipe was caught as a victim of their rampage. Last moon she discovered prickles planted by the kitten in her nest! As Bubblingstar approached the youngster, the deputy finished her meal and trotted up, eager to make a scene.
“Ah, so you're the one who stuck thorns in my nest? You naughty kit! That's no way to treat your deputy! What do you think the proper verdict for Whorlkit will be, Bubblingstar? A moon of dawn patrols?” The deputy’s voice rang with laughter. She missed teasing the clan’s youngest members. A bit of tough love, if you will.
Carefully the tortoiseshell scooped Whorlkit up and began to gently wash their ruffled fur. “The best warrior in all the clan has to look the part!” She sighed as she breathed in their fresh scent.
Dappleswipe doted over the miniature version of her leader. It was incredible to look back and forth between Whorlkit and Bubblingstar. The innocence of youth contrasted with the burden of leadership and honor. A bittersweet note tugged at her heart. Hopefully she could spend a few more moons as deputy before the burden passes onto her shoulders. tags: Brownie Sapphirejas jaybun!

Slatefoot »
Where had the time gone by? It seemed like only a moon ago Stemriver had been alive and well as he brought to camp two tiny newborn kits, and now those kits were full fledged warriors. Looking at Cinderdapple, seeing how limber she was and how the power of a warrior rippled through her muscles, made Slatefoot feel old; she wasn’t a senior warrior by any means, certainly not an old cat, but the time in which she had been the youngest member of the Clan was no more. Kits had grown up before her very eyes, with more growing bigger and stronger each and every day. It wouldn’t be long before they, too, were warriors, and in the blink of an eye, Slatefoot would actually be an elder. She really would be old and cranky, yet the Clan would continue on in its youth. YewClan would carry on for generations to come, generations that Slatefoot would not be around to see.
This was the first time in which the dark-furred molly had truly stopped to consider just how fast time flew by. She could still vividly remember the days back when she had been a kit, back when she had been an apprentice. Now she was a warrior, and had been for a few seasons. Thrushfleck had a mate, Brightleaf was with StarClan… Slatefoot, well, she was just Slatefoot. Her dreams of becoming the Clan’s youngest deputy and then leader had long been crushed. She had yet to even gain an apprentice, but she still carried the flame of hope within her. Surely Bubblingstar would allow her the chance to mentor one of his kits once they were old enough, and as she proved herself to be the Clan’s greatest mentor, she would be chosen as deputy and then become YewClan’s next leader. It had always been her dream the moment she had stumbled into Bubblingstar as tiny Slatekit. She could be rash at times, acting more from her heart than her head, but what leader was without flaws? Slatefoot couldn’t fault herself for not being perfect.
So lost in her thoughts Slatefoot didn’t even notice that the patrol had reached the Green Pond. In fact, she didn’t even notice the hare just outside of YewClan’s borders and into PlumClan territory. It wasn’t until a flicker of movement - Cinderdapple’s tail motioning toward both her and Pondspeckle - flashing in Slatefoot’s vision did she realize what was going on.
Her breathing caught in her chest when she realized what her younger kin was about to do.
Many a time had Slatefoot went after prey across borders. Many a time had she crossed onto FlowerClan land to go after a rabbit, and while this wasn’t FlowerClan’s border, it was still prey on another Clan’s territory.
Unsheathed claws, hostile threats, snarling fangs.
Slatefoot remembered all of that too well. No cat had lost their life when FlowerClan and YewClan had been at war, two enemies locked in a silent dance fueled by rage, but it was something the young warrior would never forget. It was something she would never forget because it had been her rashness, her impulsive nature, that got her Clan into all that to begin with.
The outcome of that war could have been so much worse than it had been. Cats could have died. She could have gotten the cats she cared about killed all because she had wanted some stupid rabbit as her own. None of her Clanmates seemed to hold the war over her, but she was her own worst critic, and Slatefoot knew she could never forgive herself for putting her Clan at so much risk.
Dread washed over her. The last thing she wanted was another war. The last thing she wanted was for Cinderdapple to feel the same regret she did.
”Cinderdapple, wait-” Words fell on deaf ears as her warning never finished, the owl-masked molly leaped, faltered in her pounce, and ended up half in-half out a thicket.
Momentarily stunned, Slatefoot just stood there, jaw slightly agape. Eventually she snapped out of her shock, kicking into gear and rushing toward the bush Cinderdapple had ended up in. ”Is there any way you can walk forward and get out?” It felt like a stupid question as it left her tongue, a burning inquiry that seemed to already have an answer upon further inspection - even in the middle of leaf-fall the bush was thick and thorny. Cinderdapple risked getting far worse cuts and scrapes going forward than she would going backward, but they had to find some way to get her out of this unflattering predicament.

Frozenlaurel -x-----------x-
He didn't really get it. "But the Clans really aren't that big, you've probably at least heard all the names of cats you could verify from living kin," Frozenlaurel replied. The city where he lived before this wasn't a very large one, or so he'd been told, but there had been more cats on his block than YewClan had, and he'd regularly bump into cats he'd never seen before as soon as he ventured outside of his typical stomping grounds.
Compared to that, he'd picked up the names of YewClan's recently deceased from the stories he'd been told of them quickly: Stormmask's mentor Icepath, Scarletdrift's daughters Beesong and Frostfleck, even a cat named Deerleaf--who had only been in YewClan for a few moons before succumbing to yellowcough--was named in some of the idle chatter of the Clan at mealtimes.
The grey tabby flicked his tail. He wanted to think it was that easy to verify StarClan's existence, but he couldn't justify Shadepatch's evidence as legitimate. "I'm just saying, you probably heard of all those cats before, at least in passing. And dreams are malleable, the details are fuzzy. It would be easy for another cat's confirmation to alter the memory of the dream, no?"
-x-----------x- Takes a mossball from Foxkit @ Gives Blizzardkit advice
-x-----------x-
The third time a mossball thwacked into Frozenlaurel's shoulder while he was trying to have a conversation, he grabbed it before the kittens could tumble over and crushed it beneath his paw. His tail flicked sharply, a warning that his annoyance was close to the surface, and when he spoke his voice was pitched low--not a growl, but certainly serious and with no room for argument. He knew how to wield the Dad Voice. "That's enough of that," Frozenlaurel said, firmly.
Frozenlaurel shooed the kittens away with his other paw, the one that wasn't pushing the clump of moss into the dirt. "Go. You know better than to leave Whorlkit on his own, Blizzardkit. If you move quick, you two might be able to stop your brother from getting into trouble."
The grey warrior sighed and turned back to his conversation, annoyance still prickling at his pelt. But he was determined to try and ignore it.
-x-----------x- -x-----------x-
"Hey," Frozenlaurel mewed, finding Mistleheart alone one cloudy morning. He didn't often speak to the younger warrior, even if she was closer to his age than Hazelpelt or Heavy were. She'd been a new warrior when he'd first joined YewClan, and he'd been a father with kits at the time. Even if they were less than a season cycle apart in age, Frozenlaurel had felt like they were at different stages in life, and that his experiences as an alley cat and then a single parent on the road made him feel like an older cat than he really was.
Those long and rough seasons made him feel like he'd aged twice for every turn of the moon.
But Mistleheart was kind, and loyal, and she'd been a good mentor to Drizzlemimic. So he'd decided to make it a point to get to know her, because Frozenlaurel felt it was a mistake in his judgement that he'd overlooked her until now. "How are things? I know the weather is..." the green eyed tom looked up to the clouds, squinted, flicked his ears back in distaste. "Not very inspiring, I'll admit, but at least the heat is gone, right?"
The weather was not the best conversation topic. He changed tacks. "Do you miss having an apprentice? Or is it nicer to have some mornings free to do what you want?" Frozenlaurel asked instead. "I want to be a mentor, I think, but I also wouldn't want to give up my morning fishing either."

Shadepatch - Herb Gathering with Frozenlaurel (Brownie ) -
"I don't know how to answer that question. Was that a question? And about your Starclan question, I. Like. For me to answer I need more in depth questions about the specifics of Starclan for me to give an actual answer," Shadepatch said.

Pondspeckle Hunting (Feathertalon , lemonshortbread )
Today, Pondspeckle was hunting with Cinderdapple and Slatefoot. He didn’t have much to comment about the members of the patrol, besides that Cinderdapple had a runny nose and he didn’t really want to catch it. He padded through the trees, eyes and ears alert. Prey scent was in the air. Not the most, but still there. He scented a mouse and crouched down, creeping forward slowly. Pondspeckle pounced, and caught the scrawny creature, but was immediately startled by a cry for help coming from the PlumClan border. They were right next to the Green Pond, his namesake; Pondspeckle had been named after the pond, his new territory, and he believed Hayfeather to have been named after the hay in the barn they were born in – his old territory.
Cinderdapple was stuck in the bush at the edge of the pond. On the other side of the border, no less. Pondspeckle had to actively try and keep himself from chuckling. He dropped his mouse and trotted over to Cinderdapple, trying to figure out what he could do to help.
Blizzardkit
Scolded after sneaking out, mock battle with Drizzlemimic (@)
Blizzardkit sat at the edge of the camp, looking up. How she longed to escape, explore... the temptation was too much. But she was probably being watched by her father at this moment after failing to sneak out the first time today. She wouldn’t make it very far if she tried again. All she had seen was a glimpse of a bush and a tree or two before she was caught. But what she had smelled? Well, that was an entirely different story. It smelled so good. Fresh prey, fresher than the dead ones in the freshkill pile. Sharp morning breeze, not even close to the scent of the other warriors, hustling around in the morning. And she could hear the birds chirping, a nearby stream gurgling. She wished she could just be an apprentice already! It wasn’t fair. She was tough enough to be a warrior already! Just wait, she thought, they’ll see. I’ll be the best warrior ever! And she would prove it, too! She could beat a warrior in battle! Blizzardkit trotted off to find somebody to fight. She had told Drizzlemimic to NOT go easy on her, but she had a hard time believing he didn’t, judging by how long it took him to flop over, exposing his belly in submission.

moon day!! Also in StarClan.... apparently Frostfleck "Wants to send a message to Heavy" after Brightleaf "Has seen Heavy's future demise"??? Beesong is "disappointed in Spottedfur" maybe for telling stories about Frostfleck but not her? Or telling a story poorly (in her opinion). Also Mudspeck is "judging Foxkit" and Hunterswipe is "feeling sassy today" lmaooo This is the cat yall are trying to save. Red (ironically) has redcough, and because of the high fatality rate of the disease, will not be a playable character until he heals from it.

[ had my other replies ready and forgot to post them about 30 mins ago bc I was eating. oh well.
moon day! the StarClan cats have got something going on! I wonder if Beesong is a tad upset that Spottedfur is telling stories about Frostfleck and not Beesong. iirc, he did get along with Beesong until she died. Mudspeck's right though lmao.
Red is cute o: hoping he'll pull through, but redcough seems impossible to beat. ]]

ay you can still put 'em up~ I ended up doing the moon a bit early so I can go outside and enjoy the not boiling weather ^^
and yeah, redcough apparently has a 1/3 chance to kill a cat every moon, and can last up to 40 moons. I don't actually know how the game decides when to heal a cat? Unless an illness always lasts its maximum duration? in which case he'd have to roll the 1/3 40 times which is just crazy. Also that means that starvation has a 0 mortality rate but lasts 100 moons so their entire life? Idk. there aren't many resources on how the actual mechanics of the game, unfortunately. I could probably dig around in the code or maybe they'd have better annotations on the github ]]
