When both exes of the main endgame couple are put in a relationship. Always feels awkward and forced.
EDIT: Forgot to include my favorite tropes lol. Enemies to friends to lovers. Or when enemies turn into a reformed ally who just awkwardly hangs around the main heroes.

Enemies to lovers is probably one of, if not my favorite tropes. Like 𝓣𝓲𝓷𝓾𝓿𝓲𝓮𝓵 said, I absolutely despise the not like the other girls trope.

Have loads of tropes I love and hate but don't know their names, so I googled them and here we are: Hate: Maniac pixie dream girl- EW EW EW, if you don't know what this is, it's basically spottedleaf in arc 1 Dumb jock, geek, every high school stereotype Best friend- hell naw Chooser of the chosen one The chosen one (it's been really overused) Contender or Underdog Dark lord- love my villains but you gotta have more personality than "EVIL" Gentle giant Knight-errant Loser Lovable rogue Noble savage (this one isn't too bad, but still) Redshirt
Love: Anti-hero, anti-villain or morally grey characters Femme fatale- not the seduction part specifically, but I love an emotionally manipulative villain! Neurotic type- one of the most interesting types of characters imo. All loving hero Anthropomorphic Personification Audience surrogate Corrupter Egomaniac Hunter of Monsters Imposter (only if it's done right though) Loyalist Monster Psychopath Reluctant monster Tragic hero (LOVE THIS) Turncoat Here's a link of what they are, or you can ask me if you're curious screencraft.org/blog/99-archetypes-and-stock-characters-screenwriters-can-mold/

What is the planet of hats trope? Is that when a character literally is/does everything?
I’m a big fan of the bad boy, haha. Idk if that’s a trope, but if there’s a bad boy //chefs kiss// Bonus if the bad boy is actually a softie but just a bad boy on the outside bc reasons
Also, love the reluctant father figure to the group & also~~~~ the lovers/friends turned enemies.

What is the planet of hats trope? Is that when a character literally is/does everything? Basically when an entire planet is monotone, has the same culture, traditions and language. its used a lot in science fiction and can also be used to represent issues in society (like having every alien on planet X be an antivaxxer)

Oh, huh. Thanks! I don’t think I’ve ever really read anything with that trope (or perhaps I just never realized). But I’ve definitely seen tv shows/movies like that.

Also completely forgot, Jerk with a Heart of Gold and Vitriolic Best Buds! I don't know what it is about it but I've realized a lot of my favourite characters in fiction tend to be these.

In a lot of shows/ books I've seen, the best friend seems to be pretty generic and bland. I just don't like characters that only exist to support the main character, which a lot of stereotypical best friends tend to have. They also tend to have the same sort of personalities which makes me dislike whenever they appear. I don't like Underdog sport shows/ movies because they're so repetitive. Underdog is okay when it isn't about sport though.

oh I thought of another trope I despise: naming a newborn female baby "Hope" because she was born during a dark time. It's such an overused cliche and I get irrationally irritated by it.

Trope inversion: a dystopian novel where the mc's name is Hope and they absoultely hate their parents for it. Bonus points if they're a male anti-hero figure on top of that.

Does anyone else hate Savants or is it just me? As someone who's neurodivergent, I hate it too. But ultimately I think it depends how it's handled. I've never watched the show admittedly but Shaun from The Good Doctor seems like a poor execution of it.

Feels like it's meant to enforce how great the protagonist is without feeling earned at all.

I don't really think about tropes all that much, which maybe I should while I'm writing so I don't make something completely cliched, but it's not the way I tend to organize what I do and don't like in stories I guess? But as far as plot elements I do like idk if these have formal trope names or if they're too general but I like unhinged villain/antihero women, gruff and cynical older characters having to protect younger ones, and sibling stories. But any trope can be executed badly so even these have some misses for me. Likewise pretty much any trope can be written well tho so there's few I actively dislike, but I recently read a handful of romance novels and have realized there is a trope where the female lead sees/hears the male love interest interacting with another female character and immediately assumes they're romantically involved bc the other female character is prettier or more sophisticated and the MC is insecure, and I do actually hate that trope, it's incredibly frustrating to read.

do it! Forcing yourself to write is a good skill to have and it gets easier and easier the more you practice doing it. Trust, once you push through the "ew" you'll get in the zone just as well as if you felt inspired.
Also floating rivers in fantasy settings are a very sexy choice and more people should do it.
