What project are you working on? Just another game I'm playing, 7 Days to Die. I'm just trying out various challenges and playing the earliest versions of the game and such. I should be focusing on other things! haha

So I've been a toe walker all of my life, not out of any medical condition, but just out of habit. I just learned it's one of the many (possible) symptoms related to autism. Unless it's just out of general habit, which remains a possibility, this explains a lot!

I am just now realizing that several of my favorite DA characters are ND-coded (Sera, Cole, Merrill, Alistair). Hmm.

I am just now realizing that several of my favorite DA characters are ND-coded (Sera, Cole, Merrill, Alistair). Hmm. I definitely see it in Sera and Merrill and... kinda Cole even though his social skills or lack thereof come more from not being mortal but I don't quite get Alistair? If you don't mind explaining your reasoning. But I'd also like to add Sten to this list. :3

Cole does lack social skills/experience, but he seems to display other ND behaviors too. Sitting on a wall and stimming, sensory overload when you take him into the Fade, getting overwhelmed by change (in the Fade as well as after becoming human), black and white thinking (people who hurt others must die). It's those little things in addition to the atypical speech patterns and blunt honesty that made me think there was more going on with him. It probably wasn't intentional on the writers' end, though.
With Alistair, it's trickier. Some of these examples might be a stretch or just a side effect of Alistair being rlly young and under a lot of pressure. But he just sort of gives me That Vibe, you know? It might not be as obvious as Sera or Merrill or even Cole, but some of the things he does could read as ND:
- he has a ring (runic worry token) that he apparently fidgets with a lot. it looks like a coin and it's described as something he rubs between his fingers when he's stressed, and he's had it for so long the surface is worn smooth. - in party banter with leliana he talks about screaming to fill silence as a child to "check" if anyone was listening. - tends to ramble in conversation or wander off topic, usually to tell a story. and he's clearly not used to people actually listening to him when he talks a lot, because he expresses surprise over this a couple of times and appreciates it when the Warden remembers details about him or things he's mentioned before. - clearly has a heightened interest in the Grey Wardens and their history - his preferred gifts are usually arcane/occult objects (statues of magic creatures, runes, crystals with magic properties, etc.) this could be a hyperfixation or simply something he really likes to collect. - despite being very talkative and sociable, he struggles to read or drive a conversation. he has trouble with social cues, too: there are several instances of party banter that involve him asking other companions how to engage with other people.
Something that all four of these characters have in common is that they tend to be infantilized by the fandom. I often see them described as childish, immature, naive, whiny, etc. despite being adults and despite each of them being quite intelligent in their own way. Individually their behaviors might not seem that obvious, but collectively, I feel like they add up to a character who definitely (if unintentionally) reads as ND-coded, and the fact that a number of ND fans can relate to or find comfort in these characters does lend the idea some credence.

For Alistair, adhd maybe? I didn't know the fandoms general takes on the characters cause I've never really engaged with it but he was my first romance of any of the Dragon Age games and as such still holds a soft spot. Unfortunately I did it as an elf so he just dumped me after I made him king which was fkn rude of him. >:(

I don't engage with the fandom much because, as with most fandoms I'm technically part of, I don't feel like I have much to contribute. I just lurk in a lot of places where discussion happens.
I played DAI first, so my first romance was Cullen. I have no idea why. I think I just picked the most conventionally attractive dude and went with it (this was before I realized I was aro or even ace). Then I played the other two games and deeply regretted romancing him lmao

I think I've realized one of my fixations is just setting up and installing mods and organizing my computer files instead of actually playing the games or writing cause as soon as I get more mods loaded in & in the right load order or get roms & emulators or whatever and check that they're functional I... don't want to play anymore LMFAO.
This also I think might extend to pdfs too because I will just go out and hoard books and other pdf resources and spend time meticulously organizing them and then... I don't read them!

at least we didn't pick solas for our first playthrough lmao I like Blackwall but I can't bring myself to romance him because his beard reminds me too much of my dad.
I'm not so into modding that I'd call it a hobby (yet) but I do get a lot of satisfaction from tweaking my game exactly to my liking, booting it up, and seeing the results. I love it when I install a new mod and everything works just right.
But I've been spoiled by DAO and DA2. All you have to do is download it, drop it into your override folder, maybe add a few lines to your chargenmorph file, and you're done. Easy. Skyrim, on the other hand... I was excited to finally get it on PC so I could expand my modding options, but the process seems more complicated and a lot easier to royally screw up your game if you're not careful. Every time I read/watch a modding guide I get intimidated into shelving it for another day.

No but I did go Solas for my second through on purpose simply out of curiosity for what his extra dialogue and stuff was.
Blackwall is hot but he just made me mad when his story unfolded more. Like dude. Why could you not just be honest. I can't actually remember what I did after that happened. I don't think I forced him to be a real warden but I'm not sure.

I enjoyed Blackwalls redemption arc, but it’s annoying that there isn’t much content with him after his big reveal since it comes so late in the game. You find out this huge secret about him and then... that’s pretty much it. Anyway, my canon inquisitor gave him to the wardens after his service with the inquisition was done.
I love his friendship with Sera, too.

wonder if I should revamp the front page to make it look more welcoming like some of the other big chatrooms on OTD. I didn't bother putting much effort into it at first bc tbh I expected this thread to die after like, 2 pages. I have no idea how to run a thread lmao

I seem to be hyper focusing on planning a trip with my family for this fall. I had an "oh yeah, it's all comin together" moment the other day that felt oddly satisfying.
I've also been learning a lot about the places we intend to visit, and absorbing new information is always satisfying to me as well.

I gave Fallout a try -- and enjoyed it! -- but was unable to keep playing because I'm very sensitive to needles, and the main way you administer healing to your character is... yeah...

Maybe they should use the animation that 7D2D does and have you "drink" the medicated item, even if it came from a needle. I'm serious. I've heard of more than a few people advocate for this as an optional feature for some games.

Fallout 3 and new vegas do not have the stimpak animation I don't think. If it does it is much less noticeable at the very least. I don't recall anything more than the "pshoo" noise. You can also just choose not to heal with stimpaks and go for food items and nuka cola and have rad away on hand. In fact in fallout 4 I've found it's a little more advantageous that way because the stimpak animation takes away precious seconds you could be using to shoot stuff. Like I died to a deathclaw earlier sinply because the animation took too long and I got hit again before i could keep firing. i'm sure theres probably also some kindbof mod for it, maybe.

Hmm, good point. I'll have to see if there are any mods that'd do the trick for Fallout 4 on PS.
Does food and nuka cola provide the same amount of healing as stimpaks tho? It's been a couple of years since I last played so I don't remember the mechanics that well, but if it's anything like Skyrim, you typically save the edible stuff for emergencies when you run out of medicine.

Yes and no? Stims heal by a percentage of health. So at lower levels the food is entirely a viable option. Not sure about higher ones but I am currently level 18 and a good portion of my healing comes from nuka colas and squirrel bits still. I've saved stimpaks for extreme situations or when I need to heal after a fight so i can do the animation without worrying if something is shooting at me.

I am highly interested in this information for no other reason than it is new. o.o
In other news, this weeks brain rot is Vampirony again. In this case me and my friend are doing a RP where here Frankenstein ripoff character (canonically so) has reanimated one of my characters and the drama is thiiiiick.

After taking a backseat to video games for a couple of years, I've decided to revive my special interest in world history.
My high school didn't teach the world wars or the holocaust, so I went and bought three bigass illustrated books on the world wars and decided to teach myself, because I both love history and am concerned about falling behind my peers in college. Thanks for nothing, APUSH!

Baldur's Gate 1 and 2. Impulse buy based on good things I've heard about BG3 that's currently in early-access. Don't know much about it other than that it's supposedly got old-school RPG mechanics and is considered "classic Bioware"
