Huuum. I have no idea what I'm focusing on. But I am curious how to ... take a break. How does one take a break? It's been ages since I've had nothing to do, but technically unless I start a new project ... I have nothing to do. o.o Play the Cult of the Lamb demo. Goooood idea!

If I could stop taking everything literally and then wonder why people get impatient with me that would be great
Sometimes I can see it in their eyes: “how can someone so intelligent also be so dumb” lol

Oof. Mood though. Sometimes I take jokes literally. I can't seem to help it. I know their jokes, I even have the same 'it's a joke' tone, but I can't seem to not say a literally answer. My new housemates were joking about a grape falling behind the fridge attracting mice and they were literally using the 'joking tone' despite talking about something literal. So I said if one turned up I'd take care of it - not 100% if I should do the joking or literal route, since they were doing both at once. So they said I should make friends with it. I said I'd buy a mouse trap. I could feel the mood die. @.@ It was embarrassing.

That sounds confusing tbh. I don't know ai would have even picked up on it either, I would have moved the fridge and grabbed the grape and been like Problem Solved.

@ Cocoa - gotcha, gotcha. in that case, welcome back! most of us here have been around for awhile, too. i joined the original forums in 2013 and have been on these since the day they opened (under a different account, obviously). i’ll probably be here til the day the forums or i die lol @ Callisto - hey there! (cool name, btw) welcome to our little corner of the internet! im so glad you found this chat thread heartwarming and that it gave you a good starting point for jumping into the forums. that was my goal in creating this ^^ what kind of ocs do you guys have? are they fandom ocs or from your own stories? c: i have a lot of both. (i just dumped a bunch of my video game characters on the previous page oops) i mostly make art of my ocs, but i've been trying to do some more writing with them as well. OOFGH i replied a month late without meaning too, i completely forgot this site existed!! thank you, my previous name was calico bc i love calico cats and i wanted a similar name that sounded... wizardy >:3c im glad you like it!
usually my own stories! BUT I WANNA MAKE WC OCS, and recently ive been playing ffxiv and i made a few ocs there! :3 i usually gravitate towards ocs that act a little bit impulsive and silly and a little evil/bastardly but like to hide their emotions, i just went back and looked and i love your ocs!! they all have such unique flair to the designs and personalities you picked :3 everyone else's looks great too!!!
does anyone have an artfight for their ocs? i havent uploaded mine there yet but id love to draw at you all if any of you have ocs there!
i hope everyone has been well >:3

Hey, Callisto! Good to see you again! I hope you’re doing well, too. I’ve been going thru a bit of rough patch lately, but today was pretty decent, so I guess I’m doing alright. How about you? c:
I love impulsive and silly OCs!! As I’m sure you can probably tell since you read over my dragon age characters lol. Erin, Jo, and especially Ashara fit that description for sure.
My non-video game OCs are from a personal passion project (historical fiction gn/webcomic… thingie) but I don’t usually talk about them or share art of them because they are very dear to me and I dread character/art theft ajdlddkfkjs
I don’t have an artfight! yet But I’d still be happy to see your OCs or do an art trade some time c:

I've also considered participating in artfight but I saw the "quality" rule and my art sucks so bad i am gonna draw like once and someone is gonna go "wtf is this shit?" and report me.

hi teal!! I HEAR THAT ive had some of my ocs for liek... 8 years now. id be devastated if anyone copied them so you have the right to be protective. AND I DID GET THAT VIBE those kinds of ocs hit so good!!
honestly i've been in a rough patch too but i have some good things going for me, i've been visiting with my partner, just lots of stuff going on outside of it. and i'm sorry to hear you have your stuff going on too, but i am glad to hear things are looking up for you!
my toyhou.se is greedy but a lot of stuff is out of date or hidden atm but id love to do an art trade sometime!!
and i hear you xeno... i get why that rule would make you apprehensive, that makes me think of the holy sh*t 2 cakes comic if youve seen it (i forget if swearing is allowed JJkdkykeokgnfmf) but honestly ive seen lots of beginner artists and traditional artists. most would never get upset since no one is obligated to draw back and it just means cool art for them! and i doubt your art is bad like you say ^•^

aah ty ty!! I do love sharing my OCs with others, but most people don't rlly care :') I'm sure you can relate aslkdfjslk
That's unfortunate. Sorry to hear you've been having a rough time lately. I hope whatever's going on with you sorts itself out soon and things start looking up for you, as well!
Hell yeah! Hit me up any time you wanna trade! I haven't done a trade in a long time. Mostly because I can never be bothered to make ref sheets for my characters orz
I know that "two cakes" comic! I've had some people give me art over the years that wasn't great on a technical level, but I kept it anyway because it meant a lot to me at the time. I love and cherish any art that anyone makes for me <3

Started Gravity Falls to try and get over my personal ick with calarts and since it seemed like something I'd like. Roommate is ecstatic I'm watching it.
It feels like some of the stuff contained within the episodic plot is all too easily guessable though. I apparently even was able to guess a more major plot point too. Despite not have ever really seeing "spoilers" of any kind aside from the fact I do know who Cypher is even though he hasn't shown up formally yet. Kind of hard to avoid the pyramid-turned-tumblr-sexyman.

I've been wanting to watch Gravity Falls for awhile.
Can it be found anywhere other than Disney Plus? Preferably not on a sketchy website that might give my PC a virus?

I've decided to watch every single episode of Saturday Night Live. There has been 47 seasons, over 800 episodes total. Seems like a solid project that will keep me busy for a while. I've also decided to blog my opinion of each episode.

YES I FEEL THIS ALL THE TIME. Sort of. I don't actually know many nd people irl. But my autism paired with my natural extroverted tendencies makes me a dreadful combination of awkward and enthusiastic when talking to other people. Because I'm either oblivious to social cues/tone/body language or I overcompensate and read into something too deeply when really there's nothing there, I'm really clumsy at making friends.

Does anyone else have trouble eating foods with certain textures? Because I do and the worst part is when it's a food that I actually really like but I can't eat it without gagging. Ex: bananas. Very tasty, 10/10, but too mushy, can't eat without nearly throwing up

I vacillate between "autism is definitely real" and "autism definitely isn't real," as well as the related but not quite the same "I'm definitely autistic" and "I'm definitely not autistic." (I'm diagnosed, but that doesn't really help me with either of these)

Yikes you, the same person who said psychology isn't real after admitting to not studying it in depth, as if your google searches disqualify centuries worth of professional study. Then you walk into an autism/neurodivergence help and support group with "autism isn't real". Get lost. If this group isn't for you, move on, don't discredit and hurt other people around you. You can keep ableism to yourself.

You can keep ableism to yourself. Just because it might not be real doesn't mean that peoples experiences aren't valid! What I wonder is whether autism is simply a normal part of human neurological difference (not a singular condition that can be diagnosed) or whether it is actually a neurological phenomenon. The best way I can explain my situation is talking about gender. Years of science have "validated" gender as something connected to biological sex, and continue to do so. Some studies show evidence for "male" brains and "female" brains. However, as we are now finding out, gender and sex are a lot more slippery than we used to think. It can't all be quantified using science, and no one is really sure if there is actually male/female brains. So I wonder if there is actually an autistic brain and a neurotypical brain? What makes me suspicious is that there is no clear test that absolutely definitively proves that someone is autistic or not, unlike other conditions such as pregnancy or Down's syndrome. I'm really not trying to be ableist, I'm just trying to think critically about whether the world would be better off without the autistic label and instead gave accommodations and acceptance to anyone who needs it rather than making them get a diagnosis or self-diagnosis. It also seems to alienate people like myself who seemingly occupy the weird gray area between neurotypical and neurodivergent.

It also seems to alienate people like myself who seemingly occupy the weird gray area between neurotypical and neurodivergent. Saying it doesn't exist at all definitely feels and comes across like ableism. Coming from the perspective of someone who has gotten bullied repeatedly for exhibiting completely harmless neurodivergence behaviors being told that it doesn't exist practically does erase everything I've gone through. (That, on a wide scale, yes, are uncommon behaviors compared to the majority of other people and can be tested to do so.) You know what we call neurological differences that are uncommon though? Neurodivergence. I don't claim to speak for every neurodiverse person out here either but like, that's kinda also the general consensus I hear a lot from others. Just the same as saying stuff like "gender isn't real" is pretty much equally as harmful as "there are only 2 genders". Honestly I don't even want to broach the topic of gender with you right now cause that is a distraction. The only thing I will concede on is that diagnosis can and does make life harder for some people. I'm only formally diagnosed as adhd but the number of people I know who have gotten formally tested and diagnosed with autism and then have that used as leverage against them socially, medically, financially, etc is backwards. Example: having someones diagnosis of autism used to dismiss the person and tell them their health concern isn't worth looking into. Or being seen as "unfit" for work and such and having a person in their life take legal financial control and abuse over them. But that's not really a diagnosis issue, that's a society as a whole can be ableist issue and we need to fight to change that.

I guess I should frame my stance a bit more clearly. What I want to know is to what extent is autism a social construction and to what extent is it a biological reality? Autism is obviously real in our society, but I wonder if it is socially constructed or whether the science behind it points to a clear division between autistic people and allistic people.
I definitely see where you're coming from! It's really fascinating to hear other people's perspectives on it. If I do decide to get a PhD, I would love to go into the history of science and look into everything further. I'm also considering getting a master's in higher education and working with a program that helps autistic people adjust to college, because I think that's something that should be implemented in more campuses.
Personally, this question interests me because I always wonder whether I should embrace the autistic label myself. If it is true that you are either autistic or you aren't, what does that make me, someone who could really be either? If I claim I am autistic, an I appropriating a label and causing harm to the community? Like I said I'm diagnosed, but I was tested several times by different at different times in my life experts with differing results. (Twice as a child and once as an adult).
I'm sorry for being ableist, I completely understand the potential harm that would come from these questions. My questions comes from a place of genuine curiosity about the world, a desire to understand myself and place myself in the current social context, and a desire to make the world better for neurodivergent people.

I want to apologize for being offensive and thank you for being so patient with me! I love hearing perspectives that are different from my own, and it doesn't take much to make me second-guess all of my opinions lol. Sometime I'm a bit too theoretical for my own good. I get way too excited thinking about thorny, complicated, morally ambiguous topics. I debate myself so often in my head that I enjoy having someone else to bring new ideas and push back on my thoughts.
I would love to talk to you about gender (only if that is something you want, of course). I recognize that such conversations can be draining. Right now, I would describe my position on gender as being well-thought-out but also extremely impractical/theoretical. One thing to note, however, is that I will always use people's preferred pronouns/title/identity if they choose to disclose them.
