Callan | Dorms | Neason

As he listened to Neason talking about the way his family handled these things Callan wondered why he hadn't seen him use that relic yet. He decided against asking about it though, feeling that inquiring about a noble's crest or relic would be overstepping his bounderies. Instead he just nodded. "Ah, that's too bad. But you're right. Not sure about the other students but many church members play one. I'm sure they'd be delighted to teach others," he said. He briefly glanced towards the training grounds in the distance. He often saw some knights and squires there. "That's true, I guess. They train and patrol of course when they're here but even then they have some time for themselves." With a small chuckle he shook his head. "Oh well, I still have enough time to figure things out. But at least I already know what to focus on. Do you already have a set goal in mind?" He wondered if Neason would just stick to archery and perhaps pick up another weapon or if he was setting his sights on a riding or flying class.

"It is no trouble at all," Vincent reassured her with an affirmative nod. As they were both Black Eagles there weren't many downsides to helping each other study and since he was done with the important tasks he didn't feel inconvenienced either. He quickly went to get his notes and sat back down across from his classmate, setting them down so she could read them. Aside from what Professor Orryn had told them Vincent had written down some examples to further illustrate the point in a short and precise way. It was something he often did when it came to different battle scenarios. "So let's see... ah, this one," he said as he briefly glanced at Elara's notes and then back at his own to find the exact part that detailed what they were discussing now.
(Alastair sure has a lot of faith in his house ^^ But yeah, I guess the Eagles stand a pretty good chance. The Lions ain't too bad either. As for the Deer... I honestly can't imagine them winning xD It definitely would make sense for them to lose. But if they do, let's make it as chaotic as possible! Like... I dunno. Neason being Neason. Searc, Julius and Callan trying to stop him. Someone stepping on poor Rekka's tail and tripping over him. Yikes, I better stop now before I come up with something even dumber.)

Callan | Dorms | Neason

"Magic and swords..." Callan repeated quietly, trying to not get too excited about it. He'd already had thoughtlessly blurted out the first thing that had come to mind when Estelle and Rekka had spoken about their subjects of interest and he didn't want to embarrass himself in front of the house leader. Still, he couldn't keep himself from grinning at the thought. "Have you already tried it out? Magic, I mean. You should at least know what kind of magic you can learn, after all. If it's Dark magic we could train together! Or you could ask Estelle if you want to use Black magic instead. Either way, try to find out what spells you want to learn. It's just so exciting to try and master them, especially if they are difficult spells! I can't wait to use it for the mock battle!" After a moment he stopped, only now realizing that he had rambled on about it anyway. He gave a nervous laugh and grimaced slightly. "Ah, sorry. I guess I'll shut up now..."

"If you want to you can note down some of the points," Vincent said as they went over the notes. "If it helps you understand it better." He glanced at his own notes for a second. For most scenarios he had also jotted down a short comment on what some of the factors would mean for someone in a flying class, as he was training to become a Wyvern Lord. Maybe Elara was better off ignoring those specific points and focusing on the more varied ones. "Ah, you won't need all of them," he told her. "But you could perhaps list some examples that would help you personally, depending on what you want to train for." Having said that he went back to the topic at hand, figuring that they should get that out of the way first.

Neason nodded in confirmation to the repeated phrase. "Yep! Though I doubt I'll ever get in a situation where I would need a sword," he commented. "But better safe then sorry right? Now as for magic....weeell  I'm not all to great at it. I currently practicing faith magic, once I master that I will try out white. Though I might also try to learn reason magic if I can cast out the other two types first without any problems." He thought it over a bit. "Though I probably  won't ever get around to dark magic as Searc says I'm banned from learning it." 

Elara nodded and jotted down a few of his notes on her own papers, mainly in regards to where she got confused. She  didn't have a full plan of where she wanted to go in terms of training(ie I can't recall at the moment but I'll go look back). "Thank you again Vincent," she said to her classmate. She nodded at his comments as he put down a few more notes to go with the ones she already had. "Alright," she said.

Neason didn't take much offense to the sudden reaction. "Cause I can barely handle white magic," he explained, he would have elaborated more, but felt he probably shouldn't tell an almost stranger about how he had put Searc in a tree when he used rescue. "So until I can figure it out, I am banned from trying to learn it. Though I might go check on Estelle on teaching me, what my brother doesn't know won't hurt him." He flashed a cheerful grin. He observed the other. "Are you okay though? You kinda backtracked a bit after you asked.

Neason nodded in agreement. It was better to be safe and try learn faith magic, since that dealt with more healing aspects, then trying to learn reason magic and risk burning someone's house down. 'Thank you for not telling him, the more he doesn't know of my plans the more chance I get to do them.(yea callan is gonna regret that hes not an idiot comment real quick when the mock battle comes and neason runs in with no plan whatsoever).  "And he doesn't really have anything against magic, he is actually able to cast some reason spells, he just prefers weapon based fighting is all. But I don't think he has anything against magic users. They are just as important as they can heal you with faith magic, or use reason and provide offensive support from a distance, especially when you have to retreat for whatever reason."

"It sure describes it perfectly. It fits most of us, at least." Laughing she shook her head. "But I wouldn't be surprised if some of our classmates are hoping for something more challenging. 'Some bandits with hardly an idea of what they're doing? Oh please. You can't seriously be tasking us with that. This is outrageous. An insult, I say.' ...Or something like that."

Callan | Dorms | Neason

"Plans? You're making it sound real ominous," he chuckled. Searc may have had his reasons for not wanting Neason to learn magic but there was no harm in letting him try it, at least with Faith magic. When Neason went on to explain Searc's stance on magic Callan nodded, relieved that he wouldn't have to worry about that. He was slightly surprised to hear that Searc knew some spells though. He'd only ever seen him train with a sword or a lance. "Looks like a lot of us are able to use some magic, then," he observed. "Especially if you want to learn it too. I think the only ones who don't use it are Ciarra and Rekka. Really gives us a lot of options in the field, with most of us wielding a weapon and knowing some spells."

Jasmine | Marketplace | Megumi

"Good. See if you can spare a glance or two during your missions." Hopefully there wouldn't been too many conflicts to solve this year. If most missions only dealt with bandits and, once the students were more experienced, some demonic beasts that caused trouble for merchants and travelers it would maybe convince Megumi a little bit that humans weren't as willing to fight among themselves as she thought. Surely even the taguel had to deal with some thieves or bandits of their own kind every now and then. While Jasmine knew she had nothing to prove and that most people probably wouldn't really care what the taguel thought she sincerely hoped that this years missions could prove Megumi at least a little wrong.
At Megumi's sarcastic reply she snorted. Maybe the taguel was acting tough or maybe being away from her tribe really didn't bother her too much. Either way, Jasmine didn't care. This wasn't her problem, after all. She briefly glanced at the darkening sky. It was almost time for training and it was best to leave soon. "Oh, don't worry. I won't be keeping you here. Well, a wonderful year then." For a moment she hesitated, then she met her eyes once more, giving her a slight glare. "You do your own thing if you want. But look out for yourself once the missions really start, alright? Last thing we need is your classmates risking their lives for you if you run into trouble by yourself."

"Yeah, I guess so." To Callan it didn't sound like such a bad idea. Those nobles usually knew more about tactics and strategies than most commoners, simply because of the way they were raised and educated. So he figured it was better to rely on Neason and the other nobles when it came to making decisions on the battlefield. It made more sense to listen to someone who had heard about such tactics before than to someone who had just learned about it. At the mention of Ciarra and Rekka learning magic he nodded. "I dunno about Ciarra but Rekka seems pretty interested," he said, smiling at the thought of getting to practice some spells with the kitsune. "Sure, he has his beastform but he also wants to try something new. Hm. Now I wonder if the other beastkin will also try to pick up a weapon or some spells."

(Yup. Lesson number one: Just because they're nobles doesn't mean they know what they're doing)

Jasmine | Marketplace -> Training Grounds | Megumi (briefly)

Casting one more glance at the taguel Jasmine snorted and shook her head. She started to head up the stairs leading to the Entrance Hall, raised one hand to wave at Megumi and, without looking back at her, shouted a "A lovely evening among humans!" as she walked off. Once she entered the hall she ran the rest of the way, passing by the classrooms and finally arriving at the Training Grounds. Some of the other squires and knights who weren't part of this evening's patrols were already there but she wasn't the last one either. Jasmine briefly glanced in the direction she had come from and rolled her eyes. She sure had wasted a lot of time with that taguel.

Callan couldn't help smiling at that. In a way it was a bit of a relief to know that the other also didn't do well with brawling and axes. Or, more than that, that Neason wasn't trying to convince him to try it anyway. "What else? Uhm..." he thought for a moment. He already knew what he was going to focus on and he didn't really want to stray too far from that path. "Does flying count? It's not really new for me though since I already tried that before. But I never had the chance to really focus on it, unlike with magic. Aside from that..." He didn't really care to much for horseback riding and he definitely wasn't going to try something that included Heavy Armor. "Maybe I'll try my hand at archery sometime. I know a lot about arrows since my family works with them." With a grin he glanced at Neason. "If you ever think that your arrows don't fly well enough I could improve them for you. Uh... u-unless you know enough about that yourself, of course! Unlike me you actually use them so you probably won't need advice..."

Vincent nodded when Elara mentioned not having talked to Estelle yet. "If it helps I could introduce you when the three of us happen to be in the same area," he offered, opting for that approach instead of suggesting to just seek the Golden Deer out. "She usually is more than happy to meet new people. It doesn't have to be in the next few days if you are not comfortable with it though."

Jasmine | Training Grounds | Ambrose

Jasmine gave a curt nod as Ambrose approached her. "Yeah, sorry," she replied with a wry smile. Then she shook her head and snorted. "Oh, nothing much. Just had a chat with the rabb- ehrm taguel," she quickly corrected herself, briefly glancing at the other knights. Thankfully none of them seemed to have heard her. Most of them would very well scold her for such a remark or have her join the students in one of their chores for a week. They sure were serious about treating the foreign students the same as the ones from Fódlan. For the most part Jasmine agreed with that. The same went for the beastkin, well at least Rieka and the kitsune. The ones from Sreng though? A different thing entirely. No way she would actually trust them. And meeting Megumi had just confirmed what she believed about those people. "Too good for us lowly humans, that one," she mocked, keeping her voice low this time.

Callan | Dorms | Neason

"Really?" with a shy smile Callan nodded. It was nice to be of use to his classmates. He just hoped Neason wasn't as strict as that one family of minor nobles his family often got requests from. Sure, they had always fulfilled their expectations but every time they had to fletch arrows for them his father always reminded him and his brother that it had to be absolutely perfect. It never failed to make him nervous about it. But so far Neason seemed like an agreeable guy. For nobles he and Estelle were actually pretty easy to talk to. Still, sometimes Callan wondered if he was being too presumptuous at times. "Alright, I'll do my best then," he told him. "Uh... I guess I'm usually at the Training Grounds, the Library or the stables where they keep the wyverns." In the last two weeks he had begun to spend quite some time with the wyverns, hoping he would get to train with them soon.

"Oh, sure," he said, surprised that Neason even considered this an option. "I mean, I can try. It's not an easy thing to teach but once you get the hang of it it becomes second nature to you. But at the very least I could show you how to tell a good arrow from a bad one." With a grin he shook his head. "You should see some of the really expensive ones they sell in town. They may look impressive but whoever made them either doesn't know which feathers to use or they hope to trick people who don't know better. The good ones aren't cheap either but you'll still spend less gold on them than the fancy ones."

"Then maybe we could meet her after class sometime. We often go to the Marketplace to drop off our letters to our families," he said. It was the most common way for them to meet up and quite a few times Vincent had met some of Estelle's classmates that way. He'd have to wait for a day where there weren't too many of the Golden Deer around though in case Elara wasn't ready to meet so many students from the other houses. Then again he had only met friendly Deer so far. Still, it was probably better to introduce just Estelle at first.
