Smallstar still tasted the bitter root on his tongue, it's scent filling his nose and only making him feel worse. Though that would soon pass, but all he could think about was getting something to drink. At least Saltfur did seem concerned about his worries, even if he felt like he was just worrying about it too much. But she wasn't telling him to stop talking andstop worrying about it, instead she was listening, and that was probably one of the best things she could do. Just by listening to her advice he was starting to feel a little bit better. But picking a deputy still hung in the air and Smallstar wasn't sure he could honestly do it.
"How do I just pick one warrior over all the others?" If he could have his way then there wouldn't be a Deputy position. All the cats would be equal and that was the end of that. But he knew the importance of a Deputy and he knew he needed a successor sometime soon, even if he was hoping his death wasn't going to be for some moons yet. "Surely it is too early to have lost two lives already? One was just me being... well... being me." He had decided to fish in the sea for a change and only managed to slip and fall in and drown. That was his first life gone and then just a couple of moons later he lost enough in a fight with some rouges who decided to attack their patrol. The patrol was outnumbered and they were lucky they all managed to get away alive. Except he hadn't, not with the remaining eight of his lives anyhow.
He shuffled a paw on the ground, ears dropping just a little. "I still need more time to think about a Deputy. I will pick one eventually. I just wish Starclan would give me some more guidance and show me what to do."

Saltfur flicked her tail around, trying to appear comforting.
"You pick a warrior with whatever way you believe to be correct. Find a warrior who you think would make a great leader should you pass. I'd recommend avoiding any that give you the chills." She chuffed a bit at that, running a paw over her muzzle.
"As for your lives, I can bet you my share of fresh-kill tonight that you're not the first leader to have accomplished such a feat. However daunting it may seem, I'm positive some of the Starclan cats have had worse luck." She could tell that he was still worried about his loss of lives, and she knew that she'd very likely want someone to joke with her about it. Her leader may not be her, but she might as well try. "Besides, I bet you learned your lesson from the first life, Smallstar. Not only that, but you can teach others before they make the same mistake. With your lives, you can learn lessons other cats can't learn on their own."
Saltfur realized she still had her paw on her muzzle, and she quickly put it down, licking her ruffled chest fur a bit to hide her embarrassment. It seemed that yes, it was obvious she'd only just risen for the day. She needed to wake up! "Starclan works in mysterious ways, Smallstar. They may very well give you an obvious sign, or perhaps they'll tell me something one unsuspecting night. Until then, all you can do is try and get their attention. They are meant to be our guide, after all." She peered up at the tom, her paws coming to a stop as her little spiel slowed. "Is there anything else you wish to speak of?" she asked, obviously being careful now that she knew her leader was still a bit upset about her intuition.

Smallstar could tell that Saltfur was just trying to make him feel better about his situation. It was a nice change to hear these kinds of words, they were helping to ease a worried mind. And for that he was grateful. He did manage a small laugh, though it was a little bit pathetic. "I will make sure I heed your advice when it comes to choosing," even if he was sure none of the Clan warriors did give him the creeps. They were all loyal and that was all that really mattered to him.
"I regret to admit you probably do have a point there," there must have been other Clan leaders to loose their lives in such a short time. He was not going to be the only one to make such a dangerous mistake. "But the only advice I could offer is not to go hunting in the ocean when the rocks are wet. It's why I stopped the Apprentices going there, I didn't want anyone else slipping and falling in." That was a situation that all Clan leaders should worry about, their only job was looking after the clan. And if that meant making rules and putting them in place then he was going to do that.
The conversation was helping him feel a little more determined about himself and his own abilities. Even the taste of the root had vanished from his mouth even if he was still craving that drink. "I haven't heard anything from Starclan since they gave me my nine lives. I sometimes wonder if they are even up there watching us anymore," it was a constant worry, the worry that they had been abandoned. He didn't want to think like that, but all he wanted was some reassurance they were still there, even if it was just a small message. "No, thank you Saltfur, I will let you get back to your duties," Smallstar stood again and dipped his head towards the Medicine Cat, "And thank you for just talking with me. You have helped ease a tom's mind."

Saltfur nodded, standing as well at his words. "Thank you. And one more thing." She paused, looking back at the tom. "You may not notice it every time, but Starclan does help you. They might've been the inspiration behind your adventure at the cliff, and look how you lesson helped the clan. Whoever you chose, wherever this clan may go, I have faith that Starclan won't abandon us. Unless a she-cat like me somehow becomes the next leader. I don't know if they can handle another me." With that, the she-cat turned to her stores, once again rifling through the dried leaves and the fresh ones. She trusted her leader's decision, and she was glad to be able to help, but she still needed to do her own duties.
Speaking of, Willowpaw should be doing the same. She turned, approaching the nest before prodding at the sleeping she-cat, still smiling from the conversation. "Willowpaw, you need to wake up. We have a busy day of foraging ahead of us."

Smallstar wanted to believe his Medicine Cat's words, but for some reason he couldn't push the thought of his mind that they had been abandoned by Starclan and just weren't good enough. However, the leader tried to put on a brave face about it as he dipped his head. "I am sure thye need more cats like you, specially if you give good advice. I am grateful and you are better leader material than you realise," the clan would be lucky to have a leader like Saltfur, but alas, they were just stuck with him. For now. He offered one last smile before he turned and padded from the old tree, opening his mouth to scent the air for a moment. He had been some time now and it was starting to get brighter around the camp, the sun warming his back as he padded further into camp.

Tidepool breathed in the sea breeze, stretching her legs out to catch the suns rays as they snaked across the dirt floor of the camp. She yawned, and blinked to clear her eyes of the crust that had settled there during her short nap. Seagulls circled overhead, stretching out their wings and doing cartweels in the cloudless sky. Tidepool watched them for a moment, purring, before twisting her head to look at the medicine den, from which Smallstar had emerged. She watched him, blinking in the sunlight, and meowed a greeting. "Smallstar!"

Smallstar had only just left Saltfur when he heard a greeting. Turning his head, his tired eyes spotted Tidepool. Giving the she-cat a courteous nod, the tom padded over towards her, tail swishing a little from side to side. "Good morning, Tidepool," he was fast to meow once he was close enough. Maybe this she-cat would end up being his Deputy. Maybe, he was still unsure of who he would pick, but right then every noble warrior was an option to him. Maybe this would be a good opportunity to see what he thought of this young she-cat. "How are you this morning?"

Tidepool tilted her head, trying to remember what she did earlier. "I'm pretty good! It's a beautiful day," she replied, purring. "I hope you're okay, though..." Tidepool gestured to the medicine cat den, hoping that nothing terrible had happened to her leader.

Smallstar did spare a glance upwards towards the rising sun, ears twitching a little at the sound of the gulls flapping overhead. But Tidepool's concern did cause him to get out a rather quick, "Oh no, I am quite fine. It is just a bit if stomach ache. nothing to worry about, I have taken something for it," He was still sure a lot of cats thought he was weak for losing two of his lives so soon and he didn't want anyone else to start thinking that.

"Oh!" Tidepool sighed in relief. "I'm glad it's just a stomach ache," she purred, running of her paws over her ear. She hoped the stomach ache wasn't a result of tainted fresh-kill, which would pose a large problem to her clan.

Smallstar did hope that he had put any doubts to rest with his words. No more cats thinking he was weak and unworthy of being a Clan leader. SeaClan wouldn't even exist without him, that had to mean for something. And cats clearly believed in him or no one would have joined, something Saltfur had to gently remind him earlier. "I am sure the ache will soon pass," the leader meowed simply as he dipped his head a little. "But enough about that. Do you have anything planned for the day, Tidepool?"

She shook her head, clearing her thoughts, and look up at Smallstar."Is that alright?" "That is a good idea," Smallstar agreed with the warrior, nodding his head a little. "I think I might like to join you. I just need to get out of camp for awhile." Saltfur had said nothing about resting and Smallstar had never been a cat for just sitting around doing nothing all day. He needed to get out there and feel like he was doing something for the Clan, hunting was the perfect way to do that.

"Alright!" Tidepool jumped to her feet, swishing her tail, and looked over at her leader. "Where should we go?" Personally, Tidepool enjoyed fish, but it would be nice to get some variety in the camp today. "The olive grove? It's a beautiful day, there are bound to be some creatures about!"

Ferntail raised her head, and let out a short yawn. Her eyes narrowed down at her kit, that didn't seem tired, but rather energetic, for that matter. The grey tabby she-cat let out an amused snort.
"Wake up!" He spat, bouncing around. Moss flew from behind, and as ran circles around his mother. "I reeeeeaally need your permission to go play in camp!" He let out an irked mew.

{casually makes a new warrior because we need more Tom's. And so there is another cat to interact with for Leopard }
Smallstar was quick to agree with Tidepool, tail lashing a little from side to side. "I think that sounds like a good idea," he meowed, head turning towards the entrance of camp. "I think we need to eat more than fish, the taste is starting to get a little boring now. Maybe we can catch some mice or shrews, anything besides fish for a change."
Foxclaw sat by himself in a quiet corner of the camp, tail wrapped over his paws and amber eyes silently watching the Clan come to life around him. He still felt a little like the outsider having only really just arrived, but Smallstar had been accepting of him and he had been given his warrior name. No longer just Fox the ex-kittypet and loner, now he was Foxclaw the SeaClan warrior. The name was still settling in his mind and he often forgot it.

Tidepool sighed, purring happily. "Exactly what I as thinking," she mewed, as she padded towards the exit of the camp. The sunlight warmed her pelt, and the waves echoed in the distance, Perfect weather, she thought. Tidepool couldn't wait to get outside and stretch her legs, to breathe the ocean air, and to feel the grass beneath her paws. All the food I could catch...

Though fish were simply the easiest thing to catch, Smallstar himself had never been the hugest of fans. But he had learned to make do with what they had, it was not like there was a lot of anything else on offer half the time. In the expanse plains of nothing but sand, dust and rocks with the occasional prickly shrub, small animals were not as common as you might think they would be. At least they were easy to spot. Turning, the leader was quick to follow the warrior from camp, hopping over some rocks with delicate movements. "Be on the lookout for Twolegs," he meowed as he padded beside Tidepool, "Though they ignore us, there is always danger."
