I know a lot of these aren't popular, but I wanted to try one. So the premise of this one is that a plague (similar to humanity's Black Death) hit the Clans between BrS and TAQ. The majority of Clan cats were killed, leaving only a few behind to pull themselves together. This RP will start with them, living under the new Clan of BadgerClan, trying to recover from the significant losses and restore the lake cats' ranks to how they were before.
I want this to be a serious, advanced RP. I'm not expecting an essay per post, but I'm expecting excellent grammar, at least twelve lines per post, lots of details, and attention to realism. Since this is just a claim-a-cat I'm not going to require a literacy test, but I will not hesitate to kick someone out who fails to meet the aforementioned literacy requirements. And, of course, I'm expecting you all to follow the forum rules, post at least twice every three days, and not god-mod, power-play, meta-game, or spot-light. Also, no kit-stealing. Sorry, but it's too hard with this being in the canonverse and all.
Another thing about this RP- I'm only listing minor book characters as ones who survived the plague. My reason for this is that I want participants to be able to take a canon character with a clean slate and make them into something, just like you were Erin Hunter writing for the books. That way, you don't have to worry about staying true to canon personalities... for the most part.
I want this RP to be deep and full of character development. If you're looking for a good story, try us out.
THE ALLEGIANCES
BadgerClan
Adults:
Spiderleg - long-limbed black tom with a brown underbelly; formerly ThunderClan. As one of the oldest cats to have survived the plague, Spiderleg possesses an extremely useful range of knowledge. He shares this knowledge in a rather harsh way, often criticizing almost everyone when they make even the smallest mistake, and shoving himself in the middle of a problem to fix it how he thinks it should be. He does care greatly about the cats of BadgerClan, however, and is willing to help... but only by his choice. If a cat were to ask him for help, he'd probably rebuke them and tell them to fix it themselves. (Claimed by Dᴀɴɴʏ Pʜᴀɴᴛᴏᴍ)
Mousewhisker - Mousewhisker is a big, stocky gray and white tom with a thick, soft pelt and bright green eyes.
Poppyfrost - tortoiseshell she-cat. Like some of the other cats, Poppyfrost suffers from survivor’s guilt, especially due to her own near-death experience with greencough when she was much younger: Jayfeather saved her then, and she feels terrible that she wasn’t able to do the same for him during the recent epidemic. Despite her grief, Poppyfrost considers herself one of the luckier survivors due to the survival of her daughter, Cherryfall. Because of this self-perceived “luck”, she usually puts aside her own sadness and tries to be light-hearted when in the company of others. Indeed, she has unofficially assumed the responsibility of boosting Clan morale and lightening the mood; she does this by telling jokes and funny stories. She struggles with subtlety, and any attempt to lie that she makes is transparent and easily seen through. While Poppyfrost can be thoughtless and may sometimes fall prey to prejudice, she does has the humility to admit when she is wrong and amend her previous stance on certain issues; she is also not opposed to forgiving others. Although she isn’t the most skilled fighter, she is rather protective and refuses to ever abandon a Clanmate in need, and she still hold her own in a typical fight. Admittedly, Poppyfrost tends to be rather brisk—even hasty and overeager—but her intentions are sincere, and she is motivated by a desire to be both effective and efficient. (Claimed by Paw Prince ♛)
Cherryfall - ginger she-cat.
Owlclaw - light brown tabby tom. Clueless as to how to properly cope with his grief, Owlclaw has instead decided that showing even the slightest hint of sadness is unacceptable. As such, he covers up his feelings with even more haughtiness and boastfulness than usual. He is extremely sensitive and intolerant of any insinuation about his supposed weakness or cowardice, immediately rising to such challenges. In this sense, he is impulsive and easily baited, and he has a strong desire to show off and prove his superiority in all aspects of life. However, his competitive spirit has proven beneficial in one respect: he channels the same relentless energy into completing his assigned tasks, working hard to bring back the most prey and otherwise one-up the others in terms of his contribution to BadgerClan. Whenever he loses or makes a mistake, he tends not to be a good sport and has trouble acknowledging that he has lost, but his failures only make him more stubbornly determined to do better next time. He is a stickler for the warrior code and isn’t afraid of making his stance on an issue clear: indeed, he is outspoken and extroverted, as well as rather skeptical. Owlclaw also uncannily good at mimicking bird calls, especially that of his namesake. (Claimed by Paw Prince ♛)
Scorchfur - dark grey tom. Once a brave and outspoken ShadowClan warrior, following the plague Scorchfur became extremely withdrawn and quiet. He seems almost depressed, often milling about and never putting forth 100%. Although at first it may seem as if he doesn't care, he in fact does; if you look quickly you may catch him playing with a kit, tidying up the fresh-kill pile, and perhaps even helping a bug out of a spider web. It seems as if he's reverted to an almost kit-like state of mind. (Claimed by Dᴀɴɴʏ Pʜᴀɴᴛᴏᴍ)
Pinenose - A former ShadowClan she-cat, Pinenose is solid black with yellow green eyes. She's a bit scrawny now, with short, choppy fur and a torn ear. A former ShadowClan warrior, Pinenose had to watch as her family and beloved clan died around her, and as a cat who aspired to be the future leader to that clan, it felt like a smack in the face. She's a bit rude and crass, and doesn't get along well with former ThunderClan cats that well. She used to pick fights in the early days after the plague, as if fighting her fellow surviours would prove that she could've saved her clanmates. Now though, her fighting has stopped and in its place is a sharp tongue and and an even sharper attitude. She's hard on her new clanmates, because she has a fear, not that she'll admit it, that they'll all just die around her once again and she'll be powerless to prevent it. (Claimed by Thrushmoon)
Harespring - brown and white tom. The former Windclan deputy and unofficial leader after Onestar died, Harespring was ambitious and proud, so much so that he even trained in the Dark Forest for a time. Like so many other cats, the plague wrecked his confidence and because of losing so many cats when was chosen as their future leader was the final straw in creating the dismal warrior you see today. He's isolated, and also a bit reckless, throwing himself into situations stacked against him like a foolhardy apprentice. He has a tumble of emotions he doesn't know how to deal with and this only increases his chances of doing something that's going to get him into trouble. (Thrushmoon)
Weaselfur - A lithe ginger tom with light tabby striping and large white paws, his fur is short, but glossy. As an apprentice, Weaselfur belonged to Windclan, and was bold and somewhat arrogant. However once the plague started and Weaselfur started losing friends left and right, the young apprentice was scared out of his mind and did something that will dog his mind for the rest of his life, he fled to Riverclan. He doesn't regret his choice however, as now he can help feed his new clanmates in more than just one way, however he still is sometimes at odds with surviving ex-Windclan cats, even in this new life. He is a bit quiet now, and contemplative, which is wildly different to who he was before. He will protect his new clan fiercely, and actually prefers to stay and work around camp, as there is plenty work to do, and his hunting skills are practically useless in the forest, anyways. He gets lost in his head sometimes, remembering and wondering. He forces himself to have hope for this new clan, and that it will stick. Third times the charm after all. (Claimed by Thrushmoon)
Leaftail - dark tabby tom with amber eyes. Rather clumsy, Leaftail is not what you would expect from a WindClan cat. Leaftail is bulky, almost resembling Bramblestar with his brown tabby pelt and amber eyes. However, don't mistake him for a ThunderClan cat. Despite his body type, he tries his hardest to run alongside his new Clan. Leaftail is ashamed to admit that he trained with the Dark Forest. He was naive in his apprentice days, and a cat he was unfamiliar with lured him in with the promise of being just as fast as his other skinny Clanmates. He took the bait, but turned against them once he found out their true plans, fighting against them in the Great Battle. With the plague taking away most of his friends - including Weaselfur, who fled to RiverClan - he became lonely. Now, he is determined to be faster, stronger, and more resilient than ever, ashamed that he had doubled his Clan in his younger days. (Claimed by Frozen)
Crouchfoot - ginger tom
Willowshine - gray tabby she-cat. With her training complete, Willowshine thought herself ready for anything if something happened to her mentor. However, she was suddenly struck by the severity and speed of the sickness. Distraught with grief from the amount of loss in the clan, she found herself beginning to slip into a depression. However, Mothflight helped her, leading her through her jobs and helping Willowshine to fight the sadness. When her mentor contracted the disease and died, Willowshine finally slipped into the depths of depression. However, she has somewhat recovered now, and is serving as the medicine cat for BadgerClan. She still has pangs of sadness here and there, but she is working towards conquering her depressing thoughts for the sake of her Clanmates. (Claimed by @battlingfear)
Duskfur - Duskfur is a sleek, dark brown she-cat with black tabby stripes and big amber eyes.
Lakeheart - gray tabby she-cat. Lakeheart feels that the impact that the plague has brought her is too much for words to describe. She had to watch her family, friends, and clanmates die around her and there was nothing she could do about it. As much as she tries to dismiss these thoughts she can’t help but wonder if this is her award for the betrayal. The worst part is no one knows that she did this expect for the one cat she loved the most. Lakeheart had a forbidden romance with the former Windclan leader Onestar. There is a part of her that sometimes questions about how she managed to get a cat such as him to love her, but she guessed it was because she could see past his flaws, past his rank, and treat him like a normal cat. That he could have someone who was willing to listen and comfort him. That she was willing to go out of her way to see him despite knowing the two were not supposed to be together. To add to her grief she was not able to see Onestar in his final moments because of their clan relations. Lakeheart feels that she is stuck in the past as she relives her positive and negative memories. Lakeheart is rather emotional and as much as she doesn’t want to she can’t help, but find herself in tears. On top of that she is just in general a sensitive cat and does not do well with harshness, criticism, or judgmentalness. The irony is she is her worst critic and finds faults in herself regardless if they are true or not. She normally doesn't express these. She tries to block it out especially when dealing with her regrets so no one has to see or judge her world. When others try to enter her world she is quick to dismiss and pretend that things are much better than they are. As much as she tries she is not the best liar. Her main giveaway is her body language and tone as she is a rather expressive cat. Lakeheart still maintains her motherly and kind attitude. She used to be laid-back, but now with the plague it has caused her to become a cautious worrier. Her protective nature wants to place others before her including their feelings. This makes her rather doubtful about her decisions than she once was. Her trusting nature can still lead her to being misguided and use unless it truly goes against her values. (Claimed by Ninetales)
Nursing Mothers:
Petalfur - a white she-cat with large gray patches, she has pale amber eyes, and is expecting Mallownose's kits. A former Riverclan cat, Petalfur has thick and glossy fur, now though it seems to have lost its shine a bit. Petalfur, after the plague, had gone through a deep depression once she had time to properly morn for her lost clan. It was worrying as she is the only queen in Badgerclan, what would happen to them if one day Petalfur just stopped eating? Seeing the looks of worry and dread on her clanmates, something that snapped her back into the present, Petalfur has bounced out of her depression prepared to do anything for newborns, fierce protection worthy of a hundred queens that has spread to her new clanmates like fire, something that she hasn't had since she found out she was pregnant in the first place. Sometimes though, sitting in the Nursery by herself all day, she goes back to her life Riverclan, with Mallownose, and can't help, but wish fiercely for those days to come back, even though she knows they won't. (Claimed by Thrushmoon)
Young Cats:
Amberpaw - pale ginger she-cat, mentored by Spiderleg. Amberpaw is a pale ginger she-cat. Once your typical bouncy apprentice, the former ThunderClan cat has been hardened by the death of her family. She yearns for the life she once had, but knows that the chances of getting it back are slim to none. Amberpaw is quite serious and cautious, and rash behavior gets on her nerves - in which there is plenty to deal with in the form of Hootpaw. Despite this outlook, the old, kit-like part of herself will sometimes show in times of peace. With her blood family deceased, she is desperately trying to protect the rest of BadgerClan, willing to put her life on the line for them. She takes after Spiderleg, realizing just how important he is to her as her mentor and the only cat left from her past. If he is in danger, she will put him over her own safety. Amberpaw often throws herself into the heat of a battle or issue, thinking that she'll be able to find a way to solve it - whether it's by words or claws. However, this usually gets her in trouble, being only an apprentice. She isn't the most attentive cat, usually lost in her own thoughts, but she is working on it. (Claimed by Frozen)
Spikepaw - dark brown tom, mentored by Scorchfur.
Hootpaw - dark gray tom, mentored by Leaftail
Elders:
Ratscar - brown tom with long scar across his back
Kinkfur - tabby she-cat with fur that sticks out at all angles. Kinkfur was and always will be a motherly type. She is quiet and hard-working, and even though she is retired still goes about her business as a warrior would. She can be a bit of a try-hard at first, but once you get to understand her some more you'll see that in reality she is simply trying to feel needed. As an elder, she is under the impression that she is useless; thus she continues doing duties to try and fix that. (Claimed by Dᴀɴɴʏ Pʜᴀɴᴛᴏᴍ)
Rushtail - light brown tabby tom
THE CURRENT STORY
Spiderleg has made the decision to become the first leader of BadgerClan in the midst of a growing issue with rogues. During this time, Lakeheart is struggling with her knowledge of being pregnant with the ex-WindClan leader Onestar's kits, a litter that was conceived during the tail-end of the plague. She lies to the Clan about their heritage, knowing that the kits being forbidden will cause them to be outcasts. She claims that her former Clanmate Reedwhisker is the father, although cats begin to catch on as she is not a very convincing liar. The she-cat's fate is sealed when the kits are born, as one is the spitting image of his father Onestar. She is forced to admit the truth, and as punishment for her lies is forced to surrender her ability to name her kits. The four kits are named by their Clanmates, who in their scorn give them the names Fleakit, Tickkit, Deadkit, and Firekit, with the last being named in mocking honor of Onestar's greatest rival, Firestar. In the midst of this chaos, a rogue comes to BadgerClan and asks to join. Spiderstar accepts him, naming him Darkpelt. A depressed and ridiculed Lakeheart befriends him, as he seems to be the only cat who truly sympathizes with her.
Over time, Lakeheart and Darkpelt fall in love and become mates. As Lakeheart's original litter struggle to be accepted, she becomes pregnant with Darkpelt's kits. After she gives birth to them, her mate suddenly disappears. He reappears shortly after along with a band of about thirty rogues. He reveals to the Clan that his real name is not Darky, but Night, and that he is the mysterious and infamous leader of the rogues that have been terrorizing BadgerClan. He rejects Lakeheart, calling their love a sham. He then lays claim to two of her four kits, claiming that he deserves them because he is their father. Spiderstar refuses to give them up, claiming that because they were conceived in BadgerClan means that they belong in BadgerClan. A war between the two groups breaks out as a result.
Sub-Plots
Both Ambermoon and Pinenose have developed feelings for Spiderstar. Reversely, the BadgerClan leader has developed feelings for Pinenose, but suppresses them as he doesn't want a repeat of what happened with Daisy. Meanwhile, Scorchfur develops a crush on Ambermoon, but his childish state of mind keeps him from really realizing it. Spiderstar and Pinenose eventually reveal their feelings for each other and become mates. Angry, Ambermoon soon realizes that Scorchfur likes her and uses this, trying to make Spiderstar jealous as she believes he has been manipulated by Pinenose. She eventually ends up falling in love with Scorchfur, and becomes the only cat he acts normal around.

Spikepaw - dark brown tom, mentored by Scorchfur.
Spikepaw feels that his world is tearing apart. He thought he knew what his life would be like before. He would grow up as a respected and hard-working warrior under the guidance of his clan and Starclan. He might even become leader of Shadowclan one day. He knew his world would be chaotic, but nothing could prepare him for that day. When the plague hit at first Spikepaw dismissed it. This wasn’t the first time he had seen his clanmates become sick. Stories of other cats from other clans wasn’t a foreign concept either. Spikepaw felt that his dismal turn to dismay when he noticed that his clan was starting to struggle. As much as Spikepaw try to play it off like it was nothing it was clear he was concerned. He pushed himself as hard as he could to help combat the plague and often expresses his frustrations that he wished he knew healing because he could probably be more useful. To make matters worse his mentor fell ill, but he continued to try and push himself. Eventually the illness forced him to stay put. He reassured Spikepaw that he would recover and they could get back to some training again, but they never did. This also sparked a new ritual within Spikepaw and that was praying to Starclan every night. As he followed his surviving clanmates to figure out what they would do Spikepaw eventually came from a silent depression to being vocal. He voiced out his denial and concerns with such sadness and disbelief. He showed his anger by blaming himself and he would often lash out at things like trees, rocks, etc. but he never lashed out at his own clanmates. There was one thing he wasn’t vocal about and that was his eternal battle with his thoughts about Starclan. He was a strong believer in them even if he never talked about them a lot. He thought that Starclan had the power to save his clan because they have guided them away from doom before. They had the power to even give cats nine lives! So why? Why didn’t Starclan save them? Why were they content with wiping out the four clans? What did they do to them? Didn’t they know that they would be nothing, but myths if they didn’t have followers? At first Spikepaw continue to plead with them to bring back his clan, loved ones, and Ferretclaw. When Starclan continue to ignore him his begging turn to anger. His faith in Starclan change when he officially announced to them in private that he would no longer follow them. He only joined BadgerClan because of his clanmates and clan life was the only thing he knew, but he refuses to let go of his Shadowclan heritage. He doesn’t trust the other clanners and believes that eventually they will backstab him and his clanmates in the back especially with the reputation they believe has define Shadowclan for all of these years. The cats he gives the hardest time to is Thunderclan as he sees them as a bunch of nosey cats that want to act like they are the heroes all of the time. This seems like the perfect chance for them to act like this farther. Spikepaw appears to be grumpy a lot. He is a right fighter. If something sets him off, he has no problems being blunt and arguing with you. It doesn’t matter how much you debunk his claims or how much sense his claims have for he will continue to fight back until something forces it to stop. He seems to get upset farther when you point out the cold hard truth as he typically engages in these arguments to avoid the truth. If it comes down to a physical fight he has no problem engaging in one. He is rather stubborn for a few reasons. The first is that Spikepaw is naturally impulsive. Once he has his mind fully set on something he wants to dive in. The second can deal with his own beliefs and he isn’t the type that will back down easily if it goes against them. The third is that the plague has cause him to push himself even harder than before to the point he will neglect his own needs. The plague has caused Spikepaw to become paranoid about becoming sick. If he thinks something is wrong, he will go to the medicine den in a fit of panic. It doesn’t matter how little it is for if he believes something is wrong he wants it out of his system now. Spikepaw is cynical in nature. He isn’t the type that likes to reveal his emotions and thoughts so easily and he is rather reserved. You need to prove he can trust you and it will take even more if you are not part of Shadowclan. Once you have gain his trust you have a friend for life, but the moment you do something to betray his trust is the moment he will shut you out his life. It is unclear whether or not you can ever gain it back.
