"Patience," breathed Elmheart. "I know you can do it." He waved his tail at the forest around him. "Try to focus on a single scent if you can. Try to pick it out from the others. Even if it's just your own." Hickoryfoot turned, looking back at her apprentice. Her targeted prey was in her paws and she smiled a little at Volepaw as she saw what he was thinking about. That was a good thought. "Ugh if it's so easy then why don't you do it for me." Turtlepaw was struggling with her inability to scent. She hated not being as capable as other cats. Volepaw caught a mouse and then left the nest. He parted his jaws trying to scent anything beyond the overwhelming aroma of mouse. (I'm just about to head for bed.)

(Okay. ) "If I did that, then you wouldn't learn," said Elmheart, flicking his tail. But he did give in a little. "I know this is hard. Look, the scent of bird is on the base of that bush over there, go try and track it." He flicked his ear at a nearby bush. Hickoryfoot walked over to Volepaw and dipped her head. "Good job," she said quietly.

She didn't quite pick up the scent of the bird alone but she worked on trying to figure out where it was in reference to the other scents. She wandered around jaws parted pausing every once in a while working at it. Volepaw nodded to his mentor happy to see her moving around more as though her earlier attitude was just his imagination. He moved away trying to scent other prey.

He had tucked his tail neatly around his paws, watching her. It wasn't his imagination, but Hickoryfoot could find fun in hunting, at least for a short time. But a look of boredom was already starting to come over her face.

Turtlepaw meowed fighting from hissing it as she tried to regain her concentration. She was starting to get close to fighting out where the bird was. Volepaw was oblivious to the bored look on his mentors face as he found a scent trail of a rabbit. He looked around for his mentor. "Should we tag team this rabbit. I would probably be too big for me." He suggested.

"Sure!" said Hickoryfoot, glad to get moving. She stood and followed after him. She slowly crouched down, ready for her apprentice to start. She was careful to watch how he did it.

Turtlepaw nodded returning to her work. She breathed deeply. She listened to see if there was wing flaps or anything like that. She figure the general vicinity of the bird and angled herself toward it.
Volepaw cicled around downwind of the blrabbit careful not to give away his position. He slipped through the undergrowth toward the rabbit and got ready to pounce.

Elmheart silently got to his feet, backing up to get a wider view of what his apprentice was doing. He hoped that she would be able to catch the bird. She needed the confidence.
Hickoryfoot's tail twitched, ready for her apprentice. Any second now, she thought. Any time now.

The smell was right under her nose as far as she could tell but she couldn't see the bird. Then she heard it. A little chirp She realized the bird must be in the clearing just ahead and tried to remember all the steps to get it. She dropped down her belly just above the ground. She relaxed all her muscles and slib quickly through the undergrowth.

Maybe he could handle it on his own and maybe he couldn't. She wasn't going to let this piece of prey slip away if he couldn't.

Volepaw was thankful for his mentors extra paws. If she hasn't added her grip he would have lost it. He hurriedly bit it's neck and felt as it went limp in his paws.

[[ Thank you! Okay Dark hope you feel better soon..]]
Snowkit was crouched on the edge of the camp half submerged in the brambles that surrounded the camp. Her tail flicked back and forth on the ground as she pawed around clearly searching for something.
Jaypaw stretched outside the apprentice den shaking his fluffy pelt and gazing around the camp to see who was still around.
Littleripple was in her den sorting herbs leaves, flowers, roots, and stems scattered in seemingly random piles.

Littleripple sighed at the small piles around her she would have to go out and collect more. Standing she shook her fur and left the den pausing to see if Meadowpaw was around. Unable to find her apprentice she continued outside the camp towards one of her favourite herb patches. Part way there she encountered Hickoryfoot and Turtlepaw, "nice catch" she meowed moving up behind them.

Littleripple smiled at the pride coming from the two cats, "I'm on my way to pick up a few herbs and could use some extra paws if you have the time".

Hickoryfoot looked over at Volepaw, trying to push down the urge to run. She didn't want to work. Oh, but she was very sure what Volepaw would say.

Littleripple smiled at the pride coming from the two cats, "I'm on my way to pick up a few herbs and could use some extra paws if you have the time". "Sure if it's fine with Hickoryfoot. I wouldn't be surprised if Meadowpaw was already out picking some herbs though. She is so dedicated to bring a great medicine cat." Volepaw meowed proudly about his friend. "Thank you Elmheart. I wish it wasn't so hard to pick out each scent." Turtlepaw sat down looking slightly disappointed in herself. (Sorry about that. I should be home hopefully about 8. Which is roughly 13 hours from now for reference since I don't know your timezones.)

[[ I'm in Australia so 8am for me is about 9 and a half hours away ]]
Littleripple smiled in amusement at the young cats enthusiasm. It was certainly possible Meadowpaw was out collecting herbs the question was more if it was the right ones or not. "Perphas I'll go check the herb patches first then" she purred noting Hickoryfoot's lack of enthusiasm. She couldn't blame the warrior it wasn't like herb collecting was the most fun task in the world.

I'm not feeling the best again but I only have so much time before I have to leave again so I'm relaxing.) Meadowpaw was out collecting some horsetail and borage because they had seemed fairly low when she had checked earlier that morning. She breathed deeply thinking about what other herbs might be needed.
