It was the Givers’ favoritism that led Icetail to become as bitter as he was. They had chosen his sister over him, and he knew he would have been a much more capable leader than Honeyteller. She had always been too soft, too weak in the mind. She wasn’t suited for the job of omen-teller. It was her weak mind and soft ways that was keeping a foreigner in their Clan; their father had let Falloweyes some moons ago, but he had been riddled with grief over his mate’s death and his old age. He hadn’t been thinking right. He had a reasonable excuse for letting such a cat inside their very camp. As for Honeyteller...she had no excuse for letting the cat stay. Just because she had the power to receive omens didn’t make her completely fit for the job. She had even been trained to be the omen-teller yet here she was, unable to do her job rightfully. It should have been me. I could hold this Clan together better than Honeyteller even could, he thought scornfully, tail twitching ever so slightly against his paws. Icetail was proud to see that Nettlemask was heading into the right direction. He was so easily persuaded, yet Icetail only saw that as the other tom being smart. He wasn’t letting his loyalties to his Clan and his code to be blinded by how weak and terrible a leader Honeyteller was. ”From the stories we’re told of the other star-kissed leaders, Falconteller and Mistyteller, it was made obvious that they never used their powers to convince the Clan to accept an unworthy leader. They were true leaders who helped keep the Clan alive through harsh times. Never once did they put their own lives before the Clan; to them the Clan came first. I believe that our ancestors do what they think is right, but even they seem to be capable of mistakes.” Icetail drew out a sigh as he let the words settle into the air between him and the other tomcat. Once again Nettlemask had a point and was right. Icetail nodded. ”She doesn’t care anymore, or at least that’s what it seems like. Gingerear could have very well lost her life, and I as well if things were bad enough. We’re lucky to have such wonderful healers.” He honestly wasn’t saying that just because Mothlight herself was a healer, he was speaking the truth here. Even if the Clan was low on healers, the healers they did have were irreplaceable. They have saved his and Gingerear’s lives. Without them the Clan very would could have lost two valuable members, and it seemed like Honeyteller didn’t see how easily her friend and brother could have been no more.

Cherrystorm didn’t have any time to wait. If these two cats wanted to help him find his daughter they needed to keep up with him. He wasn’t going to lollygag around when it came to looking for Sagepaw. She could be anywhere by now; where would she have gone? To the river? To the forest? The mountains? She and her little group could be anywhere. Cherrystorm grumbled as he stopped in his tracks just long enough for Soothawk and Falloweyes to catch up. As soon as they were near his side he padded off again. ”We may be a patrol but I’m not keen on going slow,” the ginger tabby mewed over his shoulder. He flicked his tail in the direction of his two companions right before his pace sped up once again. The tomcat parted his jaws to take in the scents around him once more. Still he could only catch the faintest of trace of his daughter’s scent. ”She’s not going to the forest,” Cherrystorm mumbled to himself. Perhaps she was heading to the open river. Sagepaw had always liked that particular area of the territory. It had also been Hollyheart’s favorite area as well… Hoping that his assumption was correct, the ginger protector rushed toward the river in hopes of finding his daughter. |

Breezepaw had heard a portion of what Icetail had been saying to Nettlemask as he returned to the elite with the marigold poultice in his jaws. It piqued the tenderpaw's interest- what's going on with Honeyteller? To a relatively young cat like him, this was insider information that he would rarely get to hear. Was our omen-teller really that irresponsible? She hasn't initiated any actions against the foxes. Maybe that's why.
Snapping out of his thoughts, he placed the poultice down and spread some over his paws. "This might sting a little," he told the white tom as he began to apply the ointment. The crimson marks contrasted Icetail's white fur, making it easier for Breezepaw to pinpoint where exactly his wounds were. He set aside most of the poultice for the deep gash on his back. Pressing down on his wounds, he checked for any reaction, ready to reduce the pressure should Icetail flinch from the pain.
Mapleflight watched in disbelief as Cherrystorm and his companions marched out of the camp. "Mouse-dung!" she turned to Falconmist and shook her head. "How did he find out?" The ginger protector felt something cold slowly seep into her veins- it was the aftermath, the feeling of helplessness as she pictured her brother losing his precious daughter. She could almost imagine the weight of loneliness that Cherrystorm carried with him. Oh, Sagepaw, why did you have to run away?
"Should we follow them?" she asked no one in particular, shaking off the negative energy that haunted her each time Cherrystorm seemed to explode with uncontrollable emotion. There was simply no time to curl up in a corner and sulk- it was not only Sagepaw that was missing, but three other tenderpaws as well. Honeyteller was nowhere in sight, and both elites were injured. A shiver traveled down her spine as pictured a fox stalking the lost young cats. We have to do something.

Nettlemask shook his head at the thought of Honeyteller. He had never realized how weak the she-cat was until now. He had never agreed with many of the things she did, but this... This was different. It was a leaders job to watch over their clan, protect and care for its members, and she couldn't even do that. Not the fundamental part of her job! The tom flicked his tail against the ground when Icetail sighed. He had never realized how much he had in common with tom.
"She should be here.. Even just to check on her, and you of course." He mewed, looking over in the direction of Gingerear. The she-cat was beginning to stir, obviously waking from the slumber of her poppy seeds. It had been hours and not one visit. Nothing to even see if the two cats were okay. But when Amberstep had been attacked... Nettlemask scowled at the thought. "This was supposed to be her, you know." He mewed, jerking his eyes back to Icetail. "She and Gingerear were supposed to go together."

Soothawk glanced back at Falloweyes before bounding after Cherrystorm. "I didn't mean go slow. I just meant wait for us." He mewed. "There are too many foxes around for anyone to be going out alone." The thought of foxes made the tom bristle. There had been attacks just earlier that day. They needed to be careful.

Briarflame sulked away from the three cats, still obviously very angry. Her pelt was bristled and her tail was fluffed out to maximum fluff, whipping through the air every so often. Yellow eyes narrowed, she grumbled under her breath as she walked away, the cut on her face still stinging. Why was Cherrystorm so annoying? She hadn't done anything wrong! She had mistakenly bumped into him, and the next thing she knew he was attacking her. Of course Briarflame said some uncalled for things, and she realized that, but that was no excuse for his behavior. He was an older cat, he needed to act like one. Snorting, the she-cat sat down and ran her paw over her face, licking it every swipe or so to try and clean it. Maybe she would apologize late. Maybe. The she-cat wasn't even sure if he deserved it. But then again..she knew what he was going through with his deceased mate. She had watched her mother grieve for her father for so long. Sighing, the she-cat rested her head on her paws.
