Icestar cast a glance to the apprentices. "They do seem to be having a lot of fun. I think they should turnout to be fine warriors." Icestar looked to the the trees and hearing the birds gave a small smile. "I wish everywhere was this peaceful."

Minnowcreek pawed at the verdant bundles of herbs in the storage of his den. He carefully tallied his stock of each type, sometimes whispering out tens and twenties and so on for each leaf, stem, or root he came across. He could tell the pile of stick and twigs, along with bindweed and the heaping sticky mass of cobwebs in the corner, was more than satisfactory for any broken limbs that may pop up during the hunts and scuffles the warm weather of New-leaf brings about. The surplus of poppy seeds, piled on a cluster of beech leaves, had endured Leaf-bare. A visual assessment of most other plants seemed to show all was good, however, a trained nose would say otherwise. There was no stench of mold or rot; in fact, there wasn't any particularly strong smell at all. Minnowcreek sighed, that meant the absence of the more aromatic remedies: there was no honey left from all the sore throats that went around last season, the catmint supply was tossed out yesterday once a mold grew between the leaves, and the normally small stock of Tansy expired and was removed with the moldy catmint.
Well, Minnowcreek thought, the plants won't pick themselves. The tom pushed away a bundle of burdock root he was examining a moment ago to its proper place, then stepped out of the medicine cat's den into the open area of the YarrowClan camp. He paused there, flicking his storm-gray tail while he debated over which remedy to collect first. It'd certainly be most advantageous to have another cat to get honey with, as getting mobbed by bees would be at least somewhat more bearable with a companion to take some of the stingers. He mulled over this some more in the open air.

"I agree, they are both strong and loyal to Yarrowclan", Petalnose replied, nodding her head with agreement. She looked thoughtful as she padded through the thick trees, her paws skimming over cool moss and twigs. Her nose twitched as the scents of prey entered her nose. "I hope that the clan gets new kits soon; perhaps when Cloverpaw grows older. There are no queens at the moment, and I'm concerned that Yarrowclan isn't growing", the deputy voiced her concerns, looking over at Icestar for a reaction.
Sandytail grunted as he watched Falconpaw and Cloverpaw play-fighting near the camp entrance. The light yellow tom rolled his eyes, and flicked his white tail tip with annoyance. "Were you two going to get me new moss or not?", he snapped from across camp, raising his voice. "The chores won't do themselves", the elder reminded them, giving the two apprentices a stern glare. He was in a no non-sense mood at the moment, and could be grumpy when cats fooled around.

Sagemint woke up to see Sandytail scolding the apprentices. I should be doing that instead! "Cloverpaw! Falconpaw! Moss before play please!"

Cloverpaw felt her cheeks grow hot underneath her fur, and awkwardly untangled herself from Falconpaw. Her eyes lacked the usual eagerness to please, and she looked down at the soft grass at her paws as Sandytail and Sagemint scolded them. "I'm sorry!", she squeaked, embarrassed, as the whole camp was looking at them. The apprentice scuffed at the soil with her claws, downcast. "I suppose we should get that moss now", the she-cat whispered to Falconpaw, nudging the fawn tabby tom.

Minnowcreek snapped out of his thoughts at the scene before him, and gave the lollygagging apprentices an incisive glare. He chose not to give his own surely harsher comments when Cloverpaw ceased messing around. Apprentices. StarClan so help me if one ever slacked with me... He turned away from the younger cats and his blue gaze caught sight of Sagemint. For a moment he grinned inwardly. Just who I needed.
The gray tom strode swiftly over to his clanmate, not wanting to miss this opportunity. "It's good to see you up, Sagemint. Say, could I perhaps borrow you for something?" Minnowcreek spoke with a tinge of authority in his voice and swished his thick tail in anticipation of a speedy response, but otherwise didn't let on much of what may be asked of the warrior. "It's quite important."

agh sorry i'm just now responding! c: }
The fawn tabby tom let out a grunt as he rose back to his paws, shaking the collected dirt and dust from his pelt. Fawnpaw, just as usual, was exasperated at the scolding, his forest green eyes burning ferociously. His tail slashed at his sides in annoyance, "Well--" he began to snap, but before his hot temper took a hold of him, Cloverpaw had spoke and his jaws shut close- which was a first. He unsheathed his claws to let out some steam as he nodded, grumbling, "I suppose so." His thick neck fur stood up slightly, from the play but also anger, and began to walk alongside Cloverpaw.'Moss before play',he mimicked inwardly, his eyes narrowing irritably. Next time I won't hesitate to say something. "We were just about to do it anyways," he mumbled under his breath, which was suppose to be to himself but could've been heard.

"S-Sure." Sagemint's stutter came out awkwardly. He wasn't sure he liked the manner of Minnowcreek. The tom didn't let on anything about what they were going to talk about.

She turned her back on her mentor as he left to speak with Minnowcreek, and left the camp entrance. She sniffed the ground and smelled the recent scents of Icestar and Petalnose: leader and deputy. "I hope Sagemint doesn't report to Icestar about that; it was just a game, but he can make it sound like we started a full-fledged war!", the apprentice muttered, feeling anger radiate from Falconpaw. "I hate it when they treat apprentices as if we have no sense!", Cloverpaw added, clawing at the roots of a nearby pine tree.

"It's ridiculous!" he snapped in agreement, the white tip of his tail swiping the ground in rage. "They treat us as if we were kits. We're going to be warriors soon!" His eyes narrowed at the thought of Sagemint reporting this to Icestar, sending more anger throughout him. He needed to calm down but that was always impossible for him to compose himself. Fawnpaw continued strolling, his claws digging deeper into the ground each step. "Sagemint would have nothing to report to Icestar, if he does. We were simply "working on our battle moves, which should be understandable. Plus, the moss won't get up and run away- it won't go anywhere!" His hot tempered thoughts continued to inflame, his dark green eyes blazed ahead of him in ponder.

Minnowcreek beckoned the warrior with a flick of a paw, uplifted somewhat by his copliance. "Well then, hurry up now. I need some help collecting herbs and whatnot, and I thought it'd be best to have an assistant with me today," the gray tom explained with a slightly more casual tone, seeing as he recognized the uncertain intonation of his counterpart's voice. He knew that Sagemint may back out of his request if he knew that today was going to be one of those horrid honey runs, but seeing as there wasn't a meddie apprentice to order about, some other capable cat would take that role instead. It wouldn't be good to scare him off with those cursed honeybee stings before I get to the other herbs though, so... Best keep his confidence, grabbing some tansy wouldn't be too intimidating.
As Minnowcreek became somewhat absorbed into this plotting, he nearly daydreamt his way right out of the camp entrance. He caught himself before he did so, thankfully enough. He looked over his shoulder towards the other cat, waiting for him to be at the ready for this little excursion.

"I know, it's so annoying! I don't even think Sagemint has been a warrior for long, but he acts as if he can lead this whole clan", she growled, her sleek gray tail lashing from side to side with annoyance. Cloverpaw spotted large clumps of moss growing around the roots and bark of a tall oak tree. "Great, now we have to collect moss for an ungrateful fleabag", she hissed, all respect for elders, especially Sandytail, had dissipated.

Petalnose nodded at Icestar's response, reassured by his confidence that the clan would grow. After all, she knew it would take time. The white she-cat was always quite nervous and over-worrisome, and she felt that everything had to be perfect and flowing along nicely. "Yes, I suppose we should get back to camp now. Perhaps I could set up a hunting patrol once I get back", the deputy said as they headed back through the path they came. Petalnose lifted her head up, nose sniffing, and ears pricked. "I think Cloverpaw and Falconpaw are out of camp. They sound frustrated", she noted, hearing the distant noises of their complaining, although she wasn't sure what they were upset about.

Fawnpaw let out a grunt in agreement to Cloverpaw, and while walking, he rose his paw to knock a rock out of his path in rage. "You can say that again!" he hissed, his eyes wavering in annoyance and anger rolled to the back of his head. "As much respect I have for the elders, they sure don't give any to us! Aren't we the future of the clan? With all that 'wisdom' in their heads, they sure can't be patient." he continued to babble on, stepping to the other side of the tree trunk in order to collect bits of the moss. "Of all the times I've heard that I need to be more patient, Sandytail sure isn't and he's an elder!" the tom spat, his muscles rippling under his light fawn pelt. The majority of his spitting complaints were thoughts that needed to be kept to himself, but he held no restraint to keep his tongue from getting the best of him. Fawnpaw took a swipe at the tree trunk in a spit of fury before feeling relief radiate from him. I just need to relax, he reminded himself, his eyes flickering shut in order to enter a much more tranquil state of mind. Just get grumpy pants some moss so you can enjoy the rest of the day.

"I can't stand Sandytail! We're the ones doing all the work while this mouse-brain lays around and complains nonstop! He can't shut up", Cloverpaw spat, ranting about the grumpy elder. Her pelt was bristling, but she forced her moon gray fur to lay flat on her back. She ripped at a chunk of moss wedged to tree bark, and gathered the bundle at her paws. "And the moss is a little bit wet, just how you hate it!", the apprentice thought to herself with a slight twinge of satisfaction.

"I bet he was no help as a warrior," he added, more frustration began building over his calmness. Why I wish I could just-he caught himself before adding more fuel to his already blazing fire, and let out a sigh. Just breathe and relax. As he grabbed the slightly damp moss, he remained tense in an effort to keep his mouth closed. He was constantly being scolded for speaking, especially by his mentor- but it was so difficult for him not to state his place. Instead, he needed to find something else to take his mind off of this, and began looking for an idea. "Hmm," he mumbled to himself, with a mouth full of moss. "Anyway," he smiled in an attempt to move on, but was seemingly failing, as he continued to speak, "how's your training?"

Cloverpaw admired his attempt to start a new conversation, and she decided not to share even more opinions on Sandytail'a laziness. "Hm...my training has been going okay. It's not what I imagined it was like as a kit though, that's for sure. My battle moves could use a bit of work; I just have to be repetitive about doing moves so that I understand them. Hunting has been going well", she meowed, looking over at him as he grabbed mouthfuls of moss in between his jaws. "How about you?", the apprentice asked, before taking a clump of moss in between her teeth. Cloverpaw set it on the ground, and rolled all the moss she had collected into a large mound.

"I needed a bit of help with gathering some herbs, simply put. First on the agenda is tansy, then catmint, and a bit of chervil too now that I think about it," Minnowcreek explained calmly. Being out and about away from his den was refreshing to say the least, though the reassuring scent of pine in the air wasn't going to make the tom slack. "There's a small clearing with a tansy thicket nearby, just follow my lead."
With that, Minnowcreek picked up his pace, padding briskly across the forest floor. He kicked up a small spray of brown, fallen pine needles as he sprung onto a half-rotted log, apparently he'd decided to run and balance upon it while he went towards this tansy patch. Even if he was the medicine cat, it didn't mean he was banned from some fair exercise out out in the wild. It wasn't too long before the herb was in sight; the yellow blossoms looked almost sunny with light shining down on them from the space between the trees. "Don't nip it at the base of the plant when you pick it; it will grow back better next year if you leave it with leftover stems and blossoms," Minnowcreek called to his companion, and shortly after the gray tom ran over to the tansy to do his part in collecting the herb.

"Thats a good idea it's always good to have more prey." He wondered why the apprentices where frustrated about. "I think I hear Falconpaw and Cloverpaw too but I'll leave them to what ever they are doing. I'm sure they'll be fine later." Icestar looked one last time to the trees then walked into camp sitting down next to his den. what to do he thought to himself.

Petalnose nodded in farewell as Icestar left to his den. She scanned the camp, looking for cats to join a hunting patrol. "There are too many cats out of camp. Maybe I can lead a patrol once more cats are back", the deputy thought to herself, frowning. Her nose brushed the soft grass of the camp entrance as she sniffed, realizing that Minnowcreek and Sagemint had also left, and none of the apprentices were in camp. Petalnose sighed and paced around camp, worried that duties weren't getting done.

Minnowcreek quickly procured a small bundle of tansy. While it wasn't anything strenuous like battle training, his adept skill at the task make it look easier than done by most. He bit into the stem of a plant, then added one last flower to the small pile that he'd set down a few fox-lengths away. Perfect, he mused to himself. Minnowcreek looked over to Sagemint to check what he'd collected, and waited somewhat patiently for the other tom. I did my half of this, now he can do his. Then we'd have to go to that one spot of chervil, as it's closer than the catmint across the border, hm...

Minnowcreek gave the other tom a look. One of those kinds of looks you'd expect to get from an annoyed librarian or another person of that disposition. "As I said earlier, these yellow flowers are tansy, and to pick them you have to bite them at the stem. I mentioned this earlier, Sagemint," Minnowcreek explained with a slight cutting tone, then went coldy, "if you have a hearing difficulty I'm not aware of, you'd do well to address it now." He strode impatiently to one of the aforementioned herbs. "That aside, watch me carefully." He took a nip at the middle of a tansy stem, then tugged on it to grab his piece of the plant. He opened his mouth to drop the herb to the ground, then spurned it to Sagemint. "Now do your half of the picking, if you will."

StarClan is he rude! What happened to manners? Sagemint felt his head snap up. "Well, you didn't clarify it earlier. I was just asking! No need to be so rude." He felt his claws flex and dig into the ground as Sagemint forced his head down, not waiting for Minnowcreek's reaction. Baring his fangs, he quickly snapped the stem of the tansy and tugged out the bit he wanted. He didn't stop until he had a pile that would be quite a haul.

"My training? Ugh boring," he playfully rolled his eyes as he set down the moss to his paws, his tail flickering at his sides. "I don't see why I need it. I'm already the greatest apprentice there is," he boasted teasingly, his head raised as his muscular shoulders rolled back in a lighthearted manner. The fawn apprentice smirked, his forest eyes gleaming mischievously- almost challenging- as he smiled darkly, "As you obviously saw back there when we were play fighting," he took the moss once again and began strolling back to camp slowly, his shoulder playfully bumping her, "I was, without a doubt, dominating; like i always do. You've got major competition, if I don't say so myself, Cloverpaw."

"Well, when I become leader of Yarrowclan, I'll remember this conversation, my dear, and I don't know if I can make you my deputy after all of this boasting", Cloverpaw replied in an overly-fake, sympathetic tone. Her voice was muffled with moss, and she sounded strange, quite the opposite of a brave, fearless leader, but in her mind, she had no flaws. She scoffed as Falconpaw claimed she had competition with him. "Competition? With who?", the apprentice asked, playfully looking everywhere around her as if searching for someone; up at the sky, behind the trees, in the shadows.

"Oh yeah, I'm sorry, I forgot. You can't compete in the big league," he sneered, throwing his head back lightheartedly, emphasizing the word 'big'. He threw another challenging glance back to the apprentice, Falconpaw smirking devilishly as the moss was placed between his teeth. "Hopefully, if you do become leader, StarClan will do me a favor and kill me before hand. I would rather die before seeing you become YarrowClan's leader," he chuckled through the green moss, his voice much more muffled. He continued to strut alongside Cloverpaw, his head continued to remain high as he spoke, amusement and mischief twinkling in his eyes as he looked to Cloverpaw.
