Silverwind nodded and began to pick the catmint.
Seawhisper chuckled, amused. "Alright, which way should we go?"

"Oh, of course you are one of us! I haven't gotten a mentor either yet, you know." Rainpaw smiled, touching Flintpaw's flank with his tail before wrapping it around his paws again. "Since we just got here with so little warriors Jaystar wanted to give time for the Clan to grow. The warriors that stayed with us were great, loyal warriors but not all of them were ready or fit to be a mentor." He explained, still smiling at the she-cat.
Hollyfire nodded in agreement before smoothing her spiky fur down with her tongue. "You, uh, missed some fur on top of your head." She purred, flicking her ear in amusement at her friend.

Leafmist tucked some under her chin and grabbed another mouthful. The juices flooded her tongue and she wished she could swallow the juice that had seeped into her mouth. But she resisted and smiled as best she could to the other medicine cat.
"Maybe towards the birch trees? I heard Frostwillow talking about the birds that have been there recently." Jaystar licked her lips as she thought about the juicy meat of the bird.

Her cheeks and ears began to burn. "O-oh, thank you!" She meowed, gently nudging against her. "Thank you. I don't know what I would even do without you. I'd lose my own head if it wasn't attached to my head!"

Hollyfire purred in amusement. "You are quite funny." She laughed, tilting her head at her friend. "Now, we should probably get back to hunting and return to camp before someone misses us.

Feathermist nodded, looking around. Miss us? Alright. Sure, let's go with missing me. Were we hunting? I nearly forgot... Heh... She began to scent the air, looking around for prey. She wasn't exactly the best hunter ever. In fact, she wasn't really any good at all. She was clumsy and missed almost every catch. Occasionally, she'd catch something good and it'd be a complete shocker to her. And then her hard work got eaten, but that's what it was for.

Hollyfire gave a quick smile to her friend and scented the air. The smell of squirrel filled the air and she licked her lips hungrily. Flicking her tail, she signaled to Feathermist to stay put. Crouching down, she stalked towards the trees where the scent was coming from. Narrowing her eyes, she spotted her prey. The creature was nibbling on a nut it had seemingly just dug up due to the hole next to it. With a soft growl, Hollyfire leaped and landed on her target. She nipped its spine before it could even squeal and proudly brought her catch to her friend.

Foxtail emerged from the warriors den and blinked his green eyes. Yawning, he stretched and began to stalk towards the fresh-kill pile. Disappointment surged through him as he realized there were no shrews on the fresh-kill pile. Angrily, he glanced around camp for a hunting partner.

"Well there are no shrews on the fresh-kill pile." Foxtail growled, though he was purring in amusement. "Would you want to go hunting with me?"

Feathermist looked at the prey, her jaw slowly starting to drop. "Woah!" She meowed, starting to sound like an excited kit. Hunting impressed her, the bigger the catch the better she thought. Granted, she was a bit dramatic about this. But her excitement was real. "That's so cool! You must be really good at hunting..." Feathermist mewed, still awed at the fact that she had caught a squirrel. They were so fast and they climbed trees like they could just walk up them.

Flintpaw smiled at Rainpaw. "Perhaps you're right. I suppose I'll just have to be patient... not that that's one of my strengths." she said awkwardly, looking into Rainpaw's eyes. "Thank you, by the way... for not judging me on my heritage." she mewed. "Not that very many cats have!" she added quickly.

Silverwind chuckled. "You just want to swallow the juices, don't you?" She said.
"Sounds good!" Seawhisper said.

"Nah. I don't believe I'm that great at hunting." Hollyfire meowed, a purr in her throat. "I just trained really hard."
"I am patient but I have been waiting so long to get a mentor! So don't worry, I feel you." Rainpaw purred, flicking his tail back and forth. "My mom was a loner and gave me to my dad when she had a hard time caring for me. My father invited her into the Clan but she refused. Then my father died on the way here." Hanging his head, the apprentice sighed loudly. "Don't worry though!" He said, perking up again. "Many of us were loners and kittypets once."
Leafmist shook her head rapidly but a purr was escaping her throat. "Don't pretend you don't want to either!" She mumbled around her bundle.
Jaystar flicked her tail signaling for Seawhisper to lead the way.

"But still." Feathermist meowed. "It's impressive. I'm not good at hunting, so seeing somecat come back with prey at all is pretty cool!" She meowed energetically.

Silverwind chuckled. "Maybe I don't, maybe I do. You'll never know."
Seawhisper followed behind Jaystar, the scent of the trees filling him.

"Maybe I can teach you." Hollyfire meowed, almost to herself. "It's not difficult once you get the hang of it." She looked up at Feathermist as she spoke the last sentence and smiled.
"Oh, but maybe I'm a mind-reader." Leafmist purred around the catmint. She wanted to tackle Silverwind to the ground but she knew she couldn't. Besides, they had work to do.
"It's wonderful out here today. The sun is warm." Jaystar remarked, half to herself. "It will be a good day for the apprentices to start their formal training."

Silverwind raised an eyebrow. "A mindreader eh? Well, wait a second. Let me raise my magical defenses against this mindreader."
Seawhisper nodded. "Indeed, the sun feels nice and warm. The breeze quite perfect and the apprentices would enjoy this day to have as training." He replied, enjoying the sun's warmth.

"I'm too powerful." Leafmist purred, squeezing her eyes shut and pretending to concentrate. "You're thinking about... How amazing I am." She purred, eyes narrowed in amusement.
"I'm thinking about taking Flintpaw as my apprentice. She seems like a loyal cat." Jaystar paused, deep in thought. "Would you want to take Rainpaw?"

"You really haven't met me, have you? I'm clumsier than a badger with big paws on a slippery stone. Twigs throw me off pattern more easily than other scents." She meowed. It wasn't false; Feathermist was known to trip over things as an apprentice.

"Don't worry. Hunting will be easier than breathing when I'm done with you." Hollyfire winked and crouched low to the ground, her tail just above the dirt.

Seawhisper bowed his head, slightly, towards her. "Of course!"

Leafmist purred and butted her head into Silverwind's shoulder. "My new name should be Mindreader."
"Good." Jaystar meowed in a satisfied tone. "Rainpaw seems like a mature and smart young cat."

"You can't cure what I was born with. I'm just telling you, this is a lost cause!" Her tone definitely had doubt laced through it. If my mentor couldn't do it, can you? She was the best. But hey, more time with Hollyfire is time well spent. She thought. What's the worst she could do just by trying? And she didn't want to dull the sparks of enthusiasm that Hollyfire seemed to have.

"Obviously fishing is different from catching forest prey." Hollyfire began, ignoring the sense of doubt coming from her friend. "So we will start with the crouch. It's best used for catching mice, birds, and all those sorts of things. So come on, try it!" She purred, crouching even lower. She narrowed her eyes and growled at an invisible piece of prey.

Feathermist hesitated slightly, but studied over Hollyfire. She was trying to get the position just right, copy the way she did it. Although, she did try to keep in mind that they were two different cats; Their body styles and the way they positioned them were going to be different. She slowly lowered herself into a hunter's crouch, but eventually got to an imperfect one.

Silverwind chuckled. "Yes! From now on I shall call you, MINDREADER! It is your new name!"
Seawhisper nodded. "I couldn't agree more." He said as he sniffed the air. He thought that he caught the scent of a fox but, he wasn't sure.
