Waking up his his tail over his nose, the silvery gray small medicine cat apprentice blinked open his mismatched eyes, gazing in the darker cave of the den that he would one day call his own. Featherpaw gave a slight yawn as he woke up, the whistling sound of the Constant Snow's harsh, cold weather being a comforting sound to his ears. The half-blind apprentice was slow to get up, his thick fur not able to prevent the shiver that ran down his spine from the cold, even if his den was a part of the warmer area in the camp. His stomach giving him a growl reminded him that he was hungry and probably needed to eat. However, he wasn't too sure of that and would rather share his meal with someone else, not wanting any prey to go to waste in this cold season where the skies were constantly cloudy and sending down soft flurries of white. A little too quick to get up and bound forward, the apprentice crashed into the left side of the medicine cat cave entrance, giving out a 'Mrrow!' of surprise. Whoops, there was a wall of stone there.
Smokepaw;;
Wrapped up tightly in a warm ball within the apprentices' den, a certain larger apprentice was napping away his early morning, his black ears twitching slightly at the whislting wind from outside. Being an older, more seasoned apprentice, Smokepaw had his nest towards the back of the den for more warmth. Senority rules, doesn't it? But even in the warmer back, there was a slight chill in the air that didn't let Smokepaw sleep too long, not that there was any problem with him having too little sleep. The seasoned apprentice blinked open his amber eyes, trying to get the sleep out of his vision and slowly, ever so slowly, stood up, arching his back in a large stretch, a yawn quickly following after as he stretched out each of his limbs. He walked carefully out of the den, making sure not to wake up any of the other apprentices, if they were still asleep. His eyes scanned the dark clearing for Grayfox, so he could possibly go hunting with him. After all, it was the queens, elders and kits who ate first. He was supposed to hunt for them first and then he'd think about eating. Or at least, that was what he was supposed to do. But the snow hare at the middle of the camp kept catching his attention and his stomach was begging him to go grab it and take a bite out of it. "Don't do it, Smokepaw, don't do it," he told himself mentally as his paws began to wander closer to the piece of prey.
Spiritbreeze;;
Already going out well before dawn, the silver tabby she-cat wanted a good start to hunting this morning, to make sure that the kits and Bearstar were well taken care of and fed. Though, when it was always snowing and snowing thickly, prey tended to hide better, snuggling up to avoid the cold. But the early bird gets the worm, doesn't she? Walking along the flat foresty area, Spiritbreeze's ears were alert and straining for any sort of sound that would mean prey. Her bright green eyes scanned every little snow lump, searching for any sort of movement, her mouth open to try and catch the scent of something. Wait! There! The huntress paused and froze mid-step, her eyes staring ahead of her at a snow hare that was sniffing around a boulder and berry bush. She sank down, and slowly stalked forward, keeping her tail lifted off the snow to avoid any sound. Slowly, and slowly, she moved forward until she was close enough for the catch. She wiggled her haunched slowly and then bound forward, chasing after the rabbit which gave a startled run into the bush. However, it was too late and she hooked it with her claws, pulling it closer and tacklling it down, a harsh, quick nip to the neck making the life drain out of its eyes. Giving a quick thanks to StarClan, Spiritbreeze lifted the hare up off the ground and began trotting back towards the camp, wanting to get this back before it froze and became harder for the oldest and youngest ones of the Clan to eat.
Cloverdapple;;
Waking up at the sound of a rather clumsy apprentice smacking himself into the side of a wall, Cloverdapple gave a small grumble under her breath in annoyance. What good was a half-blind cat anyways? He'd just hold back the Clan, but noooooo he had to be the apprentice for a medicine cat. Useless piece of fur, if you asked her. Too much energy to focus on healing, too clumsy to hunt properly and too much of a idiot to be a good warrior. The small she-cat's body didn't let her go back to sleep, so she slowly got up and padded out to the camp, past the other sleeping figures of the warriors. She headed straight for the apprentices' den, looking in and looking for her own apprentice. "Stormpaw!" she meowed in there, a colder sounding kind of meow. "I hope you're not expecting prey to suddenly come in here and ask to be eaten. Get up! We have battle training later, but first you need to get some water for the queens and kits. You and I will be hunting on the way." |

Thicketflash --
Thicketflash was always known for being an early bird. Every morning right before the sun rose, the she-cat rose as well. As per routine, Thicketflash woke every dawn and headed out into the world, armed with a pawful of cheer and an open mind. However, this meant that it was lights out for her earlier than most cats. She was much less of a night owl than many of her clanmates.
This particular morning, the she-cat waited for something to do while busying herself with plucking the feathers from a frost-bitten owl. She plucked and plucked and plucked, finding solace in the repetitive motion. Eventually, she had cleanly gathered all of the snowy white feathers into a neat pile, and resolved to bring it to the nursery and the elders' den. I bet Bearstar would like it! The she-cat thought, tail curling with delight. Her belly rumbled with the slight edge of hunger but she pushed it to the back of her mind, intending to eat after a patrol.
Thicketflash was just about to return the freshly-plucked owl when she noticed an apprentice inching closer to the pile. Smokepaw! His gaze was focused on a rather plump snow hare, a gleam in his eye.
"Smokepaw!" Thicketflash called, abandoning the owl and its feathers to trot over to the black-eared cat. "Good thinking- I'm sure the kits and the elders would love that hare! I was just about to give these feathers to Bearstar for his nest, I'm sure he would appreciate some extra warmth. Let's head over there together!"

In the apprentices' den slept a young white and red she-cat curled into a neat little ball. The lithe apprentice stirred in her nest, flanks rising and falling steadily with the rhythm of sleep. Ever so often, her paws twitched and her tail flicked with discomfort: she was in the midst of a vivid dream.
In this dream, Fawnpaw was underwater. Specifically, underwater in the frozen, dark depths of the Thawed Lake. Her lungs heaved for air and her paws uselessly flailed around in a desperate attempt to surface. She let out a muffled cry, yet nothing but bubbles escaped her parted jaws. Frantic, she continued to thrash around in the icy water. Regardless of her actions, she kept sinking, and sinking, and sinking–
Fawnpaw awoke with a start, and immediately arose to a sitting position. Letting her bristled fur lower, she methodically licked a paw and began to groom her face. Embarassed, she quickly glanced around for any of her denmates. Most appeared to be sleeping; she noted a few empty nests. It must be dawn. Confirming her observation was some faint chatter from the main camp cavern. She let out a quiet sigh and closed her eyes briefly, preparing to go out and take on the day.
