Scorpionheart;; (Nightsinger) The calico she-cat sighed and rested her head on her paws, watching the water for any signs of life. Small fish had swam away from the ripples but were slowly returning, and it was at least a little bit entertaining for Scorpionheart. "Not very, no. I've always been stubborn and pushy so it wasn't too hard for them to give me to Yelloweyes," she said honestly. "But Dreadstar, who was still leader at the time, wasn't too thrilled about it."

(Okay sounds fun!)
Blackfoot stood at the center of camp, looking around. The tom had already checked for his apprentice in several places - such as where Nightpaw slept - but to no avail and the tom was starting to get irked. He scanned the area and his eyes caught a flash of black in the nursery. He narrowed his eyes and made his way to the nursery, where he found Nightpaw and Cedarpaw standing inside. "Where have you been?" Blackfoot demanded, looking down at them from his immense height. The tom stared at them, waiting somewhat irritably for an answer.

Doespot felt some relief that Scorpionheart merely sighed and then replied. She tried to watch the fish rather than Scorpionheart, but it was difficult. Hopefully she wasn't staring. " I hope he didn't give you trouble over it," she meowed and tried not to make it sound awkward. " That... wouldn't have seemed fair." Who wanted a hunter that couldn't hunt? Her clanmate was fast, yes, and could have been a great hunter. But she also couldn't picture her anywhere else except exploring new lands and racing the wind. "Who names a kit Dreadkit? He didn't have a name change, did he?" she asked in hopes of a little light joking. Dear StarClan, what kind of rude queen - or leader in the latter case - would force that on a cat?

[ sounds like a plan! Dingoleap, βΎ CΚα΄sα΄α΄Ι΄α΄ β½ ] In his two moons of apprenticeship Nightpaw had developed a healthy respect for Blackfoot bordering on fear. Seeing his mentor loom above him now made him fear death, or perhaps wish for it. Still, he firmed his spine and lifted his chin. "We were hunting," he replied with a flick of his tail to indicate Cedarpaw next to him. "The freshkill on the pile was stale, neither of our mentors were present, and we felt it best to begin the day with our usual tasks. Rosefall deserves more than stale freshkill so we went just outside camp and managed to find a mouse. We caught it together too." All that said, Nightpaw felt pretty confident he had outlined their thinking in a respectful way that suggest they were doing the right thing, or at least put forth effort into doing so. And Cedarpaw had pointed out they were showing initiative - surely the head of the guards could appreciate that? He kept his fur smoothed and only determination shone in his eyes as he waited for Blackfoot to speak. Hopefully Cedarpaw wouldn't get in trouble.

Cedarpaw bowed his head as his father approached, hoping to convey respect, rather than uncertainty. Nightpaw had delivered an exceptional explanation, he mused. "We thought it would be pleasing if we showed initiative and looked after the clan without prompting." He hoped Blackfoot wouldn't be too annoyed, and a small part of him hoped he had managed to impress the warrior - everyone always seemed so pleased with Frogpaw (not that he begrudged his sister the attention, she would make a fantastic medicine cat). Tensely, he waited, gaze lowered respectfully.

(Agh I always forget the family relations because they're pre-planned!)
Blackfoot looked down at the two apprentices, his face emotionless. He seemed unimpressed by their explanation. "I see you're quite pleased with yourselves for catching one mouse. While taking care of the clan is important, as apprentices you should have known better than to just leave camp, not to mention the fact that neither of you are hunters. I expect you two to at least let someone know next time you leave. Or better yet try to find your mentors and ask about hunting," he boomed, looking at his son and apprentice with disapproval. He was not a touchy-feely cat and if he felt a rule had been violated no amount of smooth talking would change his mind.

Nightpaw happened to think Blackfoot was being unfair. He disregarded their pride in their accomplishments, and instead blamed them for the fact Blackfoot had disappeared! They hadn't even gone out that far. "Yes, Blackfoot," he muttered as his tail lashed once behind him. He didn't think he would bother to ask about the prophecy right now. Maybe later, after Blackfoot had trained with him - at him - for the day. He glanced at Cedarpaw, wishing he could say something like 'I'm sorry', but then glanced away. He would wait until Blackfoot was gone or when they came back to camp afterwards.

Cedarpaw flattened his ears, irked that Blackfoot had dismissed them so easily. While it was only one mouse, neither of them were hunter apprentices, so surely a successful kill should be celebrated? He had to admit that Blackfoot had a point - it would have been smart to at least tell someone where they had gone, in case something had happened, especially with all the mysterious happenings going on - but it was hardly their fault that just about ever cat in camp at that point in time had been in discussion with Grousestar. It hardly seemed right to interrupt such an important conversation to inform someone that they were going hunting. "Sorry, Blackfoot," he echoed. It was always easier to just apologise, given the young tom's distaste for conflict. "We'll be sure to tell someone next time." He risked a sideways glance at Nightpaw. He wanted to ask if his father knew where Mousestep was, but hardly felt like getting into more trouble for not knowing where this mentor was.

Blackfoot looked over at Mousestep; there was a large size difference as he was so large, being a guard. "Actually, it's ironic that'd you'd mention hunting. I'd been looking for Nightpaw, and I found out that these two went hunting without informing anyone," he told the scout, disapproval in his mew. He looked at Nightpaw. "We've already wasted far too much time; you're behind in your training for the day. Cedarpaw, it's up to Mousestep what he wants to do," he said fixing his son with a stern gaze and then turning back to Nightpaw. Blackfoot's training schedule was rigid and quite tough; he never tolerated slackers.

No one thinks to tell kits they still won't be taken seriously when they become apprentices, or so Nightpaw grumbled. "I understand," Nightpaw muttered, meeting Blackfoot's gaze and then letting it land on Mousestep, then Cedarpaw. The whole situation was ridiculous. They tried to help and instead got into trouble; next time Nightpaw was going to sit in his nest and not move. Of course, then he would be in trouble for laziness. He would just have to pick a poison. He touched Cedarpaw's shoulder with his tail tip briefly and waited for Blackfoot to lead the way out to wherever they were going.

Great StarClan, this couldn't get any worse! Cedarpaw attempted to smile at his mentor. "Good morning Mousestep," he murmured quietly. "I... I'm sorry I disappeared... Nightpaw and I just thought it would be nice to catch Rosefall some fresh prey... We didn't go far..." the young tom trailed off, uncertain as to how his mentor would react. he could only hope that Blackfoot wouldn't take his annoyance out on Nightpaw - it had been a joint decision to leave the camp. Hopefully Mousestep already had something planned for the day. He was immensely grateful for Nightpaw's support.

"I guess it wasn't all that good, otherwise it wouldn't be so taboo. Odd, right? A leader not liking his past being spoken about?" Scorpionheart just shrugged again and shifted onto her stomach.

[ sorry for the poof! - was baking a cake for my mother. I know! Poor things! They tried so hard. ]
Cedarpaw trailed after his mentor, feeling much better once they left Blackfoot's unforgiving glare behind. Outside of the camp, he allowed himself to relax slightly, glad that Mousestep didn't seem too mad. "I looked for you, but I couldn't find you," he admitted. "We never planned to go far. We thought we'd be back before anyone missed us." The elation he'd felt after catching the mouse was gone, replaced by shame for making his mentor worry. He hadn't intended to stress anyone out. In some ways, the disappointment in his mentors' tone was worse than the anger in his fathers.
