((sorry I've been away all day but i'm HERE NOW,, what's up))

Sandstripe looked at Duskstorm in surprise. She honestly hadn't thought that far ahead, but she tried to cover it up. "Of course," she said. "I'm not trying to rush into anything. I'm just . . . gauging how the rest of the castle feels. But finding a leader isn't simple. Stoneheart's family has been in place for a very long time; it would be difficult to find someone who could replace them."
- - Skysong
"He's doing well," Skysong said, glancing over her shoulder. "I wouldn't say he's picking up the ability to speak with the ancestor's quite as quickly as I did, but--well, I doubt any priest ever has." She smiled and went back to looking straight ahead.
- - Stoneheart
Stoneheart nodded to the royal guard. "It's extreme, but I can't have dissent in our castle. That is how we will fall apart," he said, oblivious to how his actions were the cause of the dissent. He paused and glared at his daughter.
"How do you know Thunderheart went on a patrol?" he asked.
- - Thunderheart
Thunderheart padded into the Royal Tower. “Hello?” he called. “Stoneheart? . . . Dewfern?” He came to the top of the staircase and saw the Icefang and Dewfern with Stoneheart. He scrunched up his face.
“What’s going on in here?” he asked.

"mm..hmm," He coughed a few times. "That's great, I'm sure he'll get better," He said, his eyes wandering to the area around him. "Speaking of ancestors, they've been really quiet recently. I haven't heard anything. I'm sure they have their reasons, but I'm a bit worried, considering the state the castle's in.." His voice seemed to fade near the end.

Owl's tail twitched as he intently listen to them talked .However, his pelt pricked with uneasiness when Pinepelt trailed off. Owl opened his mouth to say something but quickly closed it.He quietly reminded himself he was apprentice and the issues going on in the castle had nothing to do with him.

Skysong slowed her pace a little and a worried look came over her. "Yes . . . I have noticed that, too. I have tried listening for the voice of the late queen or even her son, but there has been nothing. Perhaps they are grieving, too." She waved her tail. "Well, it would be nice if they said something. Then we would have good news for the King--or at least news."

He nodded solemnly. It was no secret that the king had not been in the best condition recently. And the ancestor's silence frustrated him, just a little. "I'm also worried about his daughter. No one's seen her in some time. The cats of the castle have noticed this too," he said. It seemed as though his clanmates were starting to doubt the king's capability to lead, and some even believe that his daughter is actually dead. He remembered that Owl was listening, but didn't quiet his voice even more. Owl didn't have to be blind to what was going on in the castle, even if he was young.

"But a child is easily manipulated," Sandstripe said. "And easily killed. Although . . ." she flicked her tail. "If Stoneheart were . . . removed from the throne, I believe that Thunderheart would back down on his own. That would leave Stoneheart's daughter to take the place of the ruler. She might not be a bad candidate." Sandstripe knew that by talking about Dewfern she was betraying the royal family's trust--but she was sick of Stoneheart's games, and she was sick of keeping his secrets.

"Yes . . . there is no telling what happened to her. With the silence of the ancestors we cannot even know whether she's alive." Skysong lowered her ears. "Priests are usually held in the royal family's confidence, but lately it feels as though they're pushing us away." Skysong failed to realize the delicate nature of the information they were discussing in front of her apprentice.

'I don't think I've ever actually met Dewfern.' Duskstorm yawned, before curiously sitting up. 'What if one of us were to get into her quarters?' He murmured. 'We could see how her mental state is- if she herself would be willing to talk her father into stepping down.'
He heaved himself to his feet, ignoring the pain in his hip and leg. 'I'm a pretty good climber. I could get in there once my leg has healed- I don't trust /any/ of the royal guards to go in and check for us- they're the royal guards for a reason.'
He began to run his paw over his ears to clean them, tail twitching slightly as his mind raced with plans of what to do.

"It definitely feels that way. I just hope that everything will go back to normal soon," He murmured. It looked like they were nearing the meadow. He liked the meadow quite a bit, for it was always pretty and a was a good place to think. "Looks like we're here."

'My training mostly consists of fighting.' She explained. 'And reflexes. I need to be ready for anything, so I've got to be sharp.' She yawned. 'Why don't we see if we can find some mice to pounce on?' She said. 'That way you could practice hunting too.' "That would be much easier," Oak replied, and shook out one of his paws. "Duskstorm told me to practice sniffing the sick mice from the healthy ones, so I guess two birds with one stone, right?" He purred as Fox's yawn triggered his own--that always seemed to happen with yawns. "Where do you want to look for mice? We should probably stay in the castle." 'Yeah.' She agreed. 'I hurt my paw earlier when i tried to wander off- I think it's a sign.' She said, purring. 'The castle halls should be ok- I think I saw some further down. Here, I'll show you!' With that, the little bundle of bouncy fur bumbled ahead, hopping happily down the stairs and into the halls that she'd mentioned. Literally seconds after her paws hit the floor, a group of mice scattered and she looked cheerfully up at Oak. 'See?' |

Shadowfire had remained quiet, fearful of sharing her true opinions. But as the cat's continued to talk, she began to realize that she had stumbled upon a group that may share in her beliefs. I can agree with their thoughts to overthrow Stoneheart, and I'll admit that, the she-cat was thinking to herself, But I think it would be best to keep my personal ambitions to myself for the time being. She simply nodded her head along with the group, interested to learn more of the Princess, even though she wouldn't like any of the current royal blood to survive.

The apprentice pretended not to be paying attention to the conversation. He played it off by staring off into the distance until Pinestep brought him out of his thoughts. Without saying a word Owl darted ahead to clumsily leap into the meadows tall grass. Disappearing into the wild brush Owl lazily rolled over onto his back. His tail swished contently as he rubbed his scent in the patch of grass.

((Hmm, how about I make a poll regarding the rogue idea on the first page? Then we can get a sense of how to put them in plot in a way that will be fun but not Too Much at once c: ))

Sandstripe frowned. "That's . . . a very good idea," she said. "I think Dewfern is the only person left in the castle that Stoneheart would listen to." She curled her lip a little, seeming at war with herself, then lashed her tail and spoke.
"There's a way you can get into the royal tower, without climbing," she said. "At the back of the tower, there's a hole near the ground that's covered by hanging vines. The royal family had stones piled behind the vines to try to hide it, but if you can silently remove them you can get in. But royal guards are always patrolling that area, so you would have to be careful; you probably shouldn't go alone." The ginger she-cat exhaled shakily. She felt guilty about giving that entrance away, but it was necessary, and she knew no one would realistically be able to get in and successfully attack the king--right?

"No snakes," she commented, curling her tail over her feet.

Pinestep's eyes scanned the meadow around him, taking a deep breath of fresh air. It was quite nice today, and there was no scent of snakes. "Yes. I can't smell any," he said, his paws itching to run. Instead he began to subconsciously, his mind wandering and ideas forming.
(I wasn't quite sure how to respond to this and make it interesting ^^)

Skysong flicked her tail, watching her apprentice running through the grass; she had never been one for running around (or having fun in general) but there was something heartwarming about watching others do it. She looked over at Pinestep. "What are you thinking about?" she asked.

Sandstripe stared at him, then shrugged. "I suppose if that's how you want to handle it . . . I won't try to change your mind." She liked the idea of being free of guilt if he was caught. She knew Dewfern was in good health; as Stoneheart's most trusted herbalist and childhood friend, she was the only one who had seen Dewfern since Stoneheart locked her up. Still, she wondered if the princess would be able to convince her father to step down peacefully--or if she would even be willing to try.
"If this plan doesn't work," Sandstripe said, "I have . . . another option. I may need help from all of you to carry it out. But let's hope that we are able to find a peaceful resolution. Oh, and--" she leaned forward and narrowed her eyes, "the king trusts me. Which means he wouldn't believe any of you if you tried to make up stories about me. Understand?"

"Could work." Rowantooth mewed twitching his whiskers. Sandstripe did have a point. Dewfern could easily be manipulated. Heck she might be a better ruler than her father.
