Long, long ago....
....there was one Clan that ruled this valley. This Clan had no name besides "The Clan;" after all, with no other Clans, why would it need a name to differentiate it? But as always, over time there became disharmony. It has been countless moons, seasons, and generations since this occurred, and so no cat living or dead now remembers the cause of the split. But still it came, and the cats warred among themselves. When they divided, the territory was not large enough for two Clans to survive in separate territories, though they tried for many moons. Cats starved and died. And finally, the leaders of both of the new Clans came together on the newleaf equinox- the time when night and day are the same length- and came to an agreement.
The two Clans would share their territory, but they would only use it at certain times. The one that would become SunClan would hunt during the day, while the Clan that is now MoonClan would hunt only at night. Dusk and dawn were rather ambiguous times, and so it was decided that both Clans may walk the territory in the half-light but neither may hunt. However, if at night a SunClan cat should be out of camp or the small area around it, it would be considered trespassing; the same for MoonClan, but during the day. Both Clans claimed small patches of land around their camps that was exclusively their territory, but the rest of the land was for both. And thus the rather unique balance of modern SunClan and MoonClan was created.
About SunClan
SunClan is one of two modern Clans that live in an isolated mountain valley. Because the valley is not large enough for cats to be able to survive off hunting in only half, SunClan shares its territory with MoonClan. SunClan is allowed to hunt only during the day, while MoonClan is allowed to hunt only at night. During dusk and dawn, both Clans may walk the territory but neither may hunt.
SunClan, as could be expected, is the brighter and louder of the two Clans. The cats tend to be brighter in color, with more ginger, white, tawny, and other pale-colored cats. This isn't always the case, though, as there are plenty of dark cats in SunClan and pale cats in MoonClan. However, SunClan cats are consistently larger than their MoonClan counterparts, and tend to have shorter fur, since they are out during the day when it is generally warmer. In personality, SunClan cats tend to be more optimistic, outspoken, and friendly.
Roleplay Rules
☀ Obviously, follow all the forum rules and ghost rules, which I shouldn't need to reiterate here. ☾
☀ No flaming, bashing, trolling, spotlighting, powerplaying, godmodding, etc. ☾
☀ This is intended to be a fairly literate roleplay, so I will be a bit picky about things like grammar and capitalization, at least in roleplay posts. Do what you want in chat, I don't care. But make sure your joining form is the apex of your best grammar, because that's what I'll use to judge if you're literate enough for this roleplay. I won't be too picky- as long as your grammar is mostly good, that should be fine. It doesn't have to be perfect. However, if your joining form is barely readable and wrought with spelling errors, run-on sentences, sentence fragments, bad capitalization, etc. I will probably ask you to at least try to correct it. If you refuse or are unable to do so to a satisfactory degree, I will not accept you. ☾
☀ No mary sues/"perfect"characters. Your character is almost never going to be the absolute best in the land at anything. Being very good at some things (not everything), however, is entirely acceptable. Your character will be bad at some things. They will have some flaws. They will lose sometimes. Similarly, though, please don't make your character so awful that they have no good aspects and are mopey and depressed and annoyingly flawed. Give them some space to develop and improve, but also let them develop and improve. ☾
☀ As always, keep things pg. So, no excessively graphic violence, language, or other inappropriateness. If you desire any of these things please take it to PM where it is legally out of my control. ☾
☀ Please try to be literate and original. Make your characters and their actions unique and meaningful rather than making them a cookie cutter with nothing personal going for them. Contribute to the plot and roleplay in a meaningful way that is enjoyable for everyone. Use good grammar, spelling, etc. At the same time, please don't write a novel every post. If you try to make things too long and complicated it gets boring and tedious. Find that comfortable middle where it's entertaining for you to write and entertaining for us to read. ☾
☀ As discussed in a previous section, keep your characters realistic. Obviously being made-up cats they don't have to be 100% realistic and perfectly conform to real life cat genetics or whatever. But keep it believable. Like, a gray cat with black spots isn't something that actually exists as far as I'm aware, but it's fine for this roleplay. A cat with purple eyes, on the other hand, isn't even believable. A cat with a vaguely star-shaped mark on their chest is believable. A cat with a perfect star shape in the exact center of their forehead is not. Etc. This also goes for behavior; keep your character's personality, backstory, and all that other stuff consistent and believable. Don't make their reactions wildly arbitrary- everyone has motives for what they do. This also goes for things like roleplay events. When your character attempts to do something, sometimes they'll fail. That's just how it is. You're character can't always be awesome and win at everything. It's not realistic. At the same time, don't make everything always completely awful for your character where they're always miserable and nothing good happens to them. That's just sad. ☾
☀ If you are gone for more than two weeks without prior warning, you will be suspended and your characters moved to the "inactive" slot. If you are gone for two weeks after this, your characters will be entirely removed. If you have any ranks- such as a noble of a kingdom or something- then that rank will be available for other people to fill. ☾
☀ I reserve the right to reject or remove people who are not literate enough, who do not contribute well to the roleplay, who are not active, who do not keep in the spirit of the roleplay, or who do not adequately follow the above rules. ☾
Warrior Code
☀ Defend your Clan, even with your life. You may have friendships with cats from outside the Clan, but your loyalty must remain to your Clan, as one day you may meet them in battle. ☾
☀ Do not hunt or trespass on another Clan's territory. ☾
☀ Elders, queens, and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors. Unless they have permission, apprentices may not eat until they have hunted to feed the elders. If any warrior or apprentice is sick or injured, they may eat while the elders, queens, and kits are eating. ☾
☀ Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to StarClan for its life. ☾
☀ A kit must be at least six moons old to become an apprentice. ☾
☀ Newly appointed warriors will keep a silent vigil for one night after receiving their warrior name. ☾
☀ A cat cannot be made deputy without having mentored at least one apprentice. ☾
☀ The deputy will become Clan leader when the leader dies, retires or is exiled. ☾
☀ After the death or retirement of the deputy, the new deputy must be chosen before moonhigh. ☾
☀ Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespassing cats. ☾
☀ No warrior can neglect a kit in pain or danger, even if the kit is from outside the Clan. ☾
☀ The word of the Clan Leader is the warrior code. ☾
☀ An honorable warrior does not need to kill other cats to win his/her battles, unless they are outside the warrior code or if it is necessary for self-defense. ☾
