{ yeah ! maybe arue gets knocked out ? } ♕ -- Eska smirked at the little she - cat's anger. Sweet little Arue ... What a naive cat. Thinking that she can make me happier. Please. No one can turn my frown upside down. She sniffed around to see if she could find any trace of prey. There was a faint scent of pigeon, the strong perfume of pine needles blanketing the other scents and ... fox? Eska shrugged. Probably just a fox from a few days ago, travelling by ... Eska turned around quickly when she heard a yowl. Arue was battling a fox! Eska spat and ran between Arue and the savage creature. "Get behind me. I'll protect you." She hissed at Arue before leaping at the fox. She it's back, and clung onto it with her claws. She was a storm of scratching, spitting, biting fury. She maybe didn't necessarily like Arue, but she wouldn't let her die. After all, Eska had a moral code and a conscience, and she didn't want to have the blood of an innocent cat on her paws. The only thing she could hear was the blood gushing through her ears and her heart pounding. She attempted to perform the killing bite on the fox's neck, and clung on. Eska didn't know if she'd make it out alive of this fight, but she would make sure Arue did.

Arue stumbled in surprise as Eska jumped between her and the fox. She's going to die! Arue nipped at the fox's paws, trying to make it stumble and fall so she and Eska had the upper advantage. She saw Eska go for the killing bite, and swiped at the fox's haunches. She didn't want Eska to die for her, even if the she-cat was rude and harsh.

♕ -- Eska hissed when she saw what the she - cat was doing. "I told you to get behind me! Do you want to die?" Eska glared at Arue. "Just hide somewhere, idiot! I'm protecting you!" She turned her attention back to the fox. She snarled and bit hard on the fox's throat. She held on, her grip tight as she was thrashed around, clinging onto the fox's back. For a moment, she questioned why she was doing this. She looked back at Arue. She may be stupid, but she had a soul, and she wouldn't let her die. Eska felt hot blood gushing into her mouth, and swallowed it down, wincing at it's salty taste. Fox blood tastes disgusting. She thought, No time to think about that! Cat's lives are at stake here! She thought, turning her attention back to the fox. If she could slip under the fox, she could slice open its belly, which would make the fox lose a lot of blood, which would make it significantly weaker. But it was too risky. The killing bite which she was performing at that moment was her best hope for getting rid of the fox.

[ Thanks for the info c: Holly is such a cinnamon bun. I was already thinking of catastrophes that might make Holly epically miss her family by a couple heartbeats, but if nobody is going to return for her anyways, that makes things easier. ]
"Oh, don't worry about it", Fand said, "I don't think there are many small, fluffy, well-fed black cats in the area, especially not sitting in front of the very house you're supposed to live in. They'll know it's you."
As they continued their journey towards the edge of the forest, she listened to Holly's tale. The young cat seemed quite fearless for a kittypet. It it was out of naiveté or mettle, she could not tell. Probably a mixture of both. She knew the "beasts" Holly was talking about. They were dangerous. She'd seen cats be killed by them, before, mercilessly. They'd need to cross their path when none were approaching, but sometimes it was hard to tell how fast they went. After that, she'd let Holly take the lead, since the smaller cat seemed to remember the path she had taken quite well.
There was yowling in the distance, in the general direction they'd come from, and Fand instincively sniffed the air, but instantly regretted it. Holly's scent was drowning out anything else. She wasn't too eager to find out whatever was causing cats to scream like that face-first, either, so she set a slightly faster pace as they progressed.
It wasn't long until they reached the end of the forest, and the sounds of twoleg vehicles grew louder when they passed the last trees and finally stood in the open, at the edge of the beast trail, as solid, grey and uninviting as Holly had described it.
Here lies the abyss, the well of all souls. From these emerald waters doth life begin anew. Come to me, child, and I shall embrace you. In my arms lies Eternity.

(It's funny how you say that holly described the path well when really she described a normal street that could've been any of the streets except for the sign)
"I guess that makes sense. It would be weird for a random cat to wait for them." Holly agreed, taking the lead when Fand allowed her. She knew she was probably moving a lot slower than Fand wanted, but she was younger and so she was smaller. She barely noticed the yowling in the distance, the only thing she noticed was the thick stench of a Beast Trail. Soon enough, they were looking out at one and a beast came tearing past with a roar that hurt her ears.

She noticed how she was keeping the fox busy, trying to use the killing bite. With the fox occupied with Eska, he won't notice me and I can slip under its belly to slice it to make it weaker. Arue didn't hesitate as she moved under the fox and unsheathed her claws all the way, dragging them along it's belly. Blood spilled onto her from the wound but she didn't care, as long as Eska didn't die.

[ To be fair, Fand probably never ventured past the street that's directly beside the edge of the forest. Slightly traumatised, probably. Also not in dire need of human broomsticks being shaken after her. She wouldn't believe how many streets actually exist, and since she's completely lost as soon as out of the forest, any orientation is better than hers. Only reason she'd even accompanying Holly is some strange mother instinct kicking in since she's so fluffy, cute and naive. ]
Fand forced herself not to leap backwards when the beast passed them by at high speed, and with less distance between herself and its ferocious swirling claws than she cared for. Another one was roaring closer, albeit a bit slower. Then another one. they were slowly forming a line behind one another, and almost coming to a halt.
Was there a reason they were gathering? Were they waiting for something? Maybe they were waiting in line for food, or something else?
Whatever the reason, Fand couldn't imagine a better moment to cross the dark area than when the Beasts were unmoving. And since she didn't know how long they'd remain motionless, she started to run across the beast path. Only when she had passed the line of vehicles and reached the middle of road did she realize that beasts moved in both directions. And the ones in the opposite direction weren't waiting. They were speeding by just as fast. She wanted to turn back, but right when the thought of retreat crossed her mind, the beasts between which she was standing snapped back to life with a fearsome roar.
Here lies the abyss, the well of all souls. From these emerald waters doth life begin anew. Come to me, child, and I shall embrace you. In my arms lies Eternity.

Holly watched in shock as Fand dashed to the middle of the road. When she had chased her owners' beast she had been on the white stone where they didn't roam, but she knew it was dangerous on the black stone. "Fand? Are you okay?" She called, ears flattened at the roar of beasts, unable to see the older she-cat now that the beasts were moving again.

Fand didn't hear Holly reaching out to her, she was busy crouching as low as she could and hiding her head between her paws. Her mind was caught in a recurring cycle of 'No, this can't be happening, this can't be my time to die.' Beasts were screeching as they slalomed around her. Some were yelling loudly and with hostility, as if to tell her to get out of their way, and it frightened her even more.
Then finally, they were gone. When she raised her head, she could see their back-eyes moving into the distance. The path was clear, and she was fine. Fand sped across the remainder of the dark ground faster than ball-lightnig. Only then did she remember what she'd come here for in the first place.
"Holly!", she called for the smaller cat, eyes scanning the danger she'd passed. "I made it. Can you cross?"

♕ -- Eska growled back. "I don't need you getting hurt! I'll already have to treat my wounds after this. Plus, if you die, it'll be my fault, and I don't want something like that on my conscience." Her fur flattened, and her eyes showed real emotion. She quickly reverted to her usual snarky state. Eska's jaws clamped onto the fox's neck and tore off chunks of fur from it's pelt. She saw the raw skin bleeding from where she had torn the fur off. She was trying to hurt the fox so it would run away. She climbed on top of the head and started tearing the ears off of the fox. She hoped Arue had stopped fighting and now was just watching. She couldn't have the she - cat dead! Arue needed to learn that Eska could handle this.

(XD lol)
Holly looked looked down the road and three beasts raced past, but she could barely see the glimmer of more that were far off. "Yeah!" She called over in reply to Fand. The small, black, she-cat bunched her muscles and pushed off onto the Beast Path, her paws hitting the ground hard. She scrambled through the rode and made it next to Fand. Not a minute later another swarm of beasts thundered across the path. Her paws stung from running across, the soft, cold ground from the forest having been replaced by hard, rocky, warm rode and now more-or-less smooth white stone. She looked around and spotted the sign scribbled with the words she remembered and she began off toward it, a more thin Beast path running down trough an isle of box dens sided by the white stone. "I think there paths don't have many beasts. It's more slow." She informed.

[ Welcome to the fun, Spottedpath! ]
Once the petite black was at her side again, Fand let out a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding. She looked around with curiosity. She'd only ever seen the twoleg homes from across the Beast path, but had never come this close before. Their walls were coloured unnaturally, too white, and some in bright colours that almost hurt her eyes. Some of them had small grassy lanes around them, but the blades were trimmed and everything was too orderly to feel comfortable. Fand followed Holly quickly, before more bale could come their way. Holly said that less Beasts would roam this are, but Fand would have preferred not to encounter any more of them at all. The sooner they found Holly's home and she could get back to the relative safety of the wild, the better. "How far is it from here?", she asked, and instantly cursed the anxiety her voice was showing.
For a moment, she wondered what she was doing here in the first place. But Holly had looked too lost to be left to her own devices in the forest when she'd found her, and now she felt responsible that the small cat got back to a place she knew. Even though Fand knew less about the twoleg's place than Holly did, her reflexes were sharp and two cats had a better chance of surviving the unknown than one did alone.

Holly padded down the road, eyeing the box dens. She recalled a few of them, her den must be close. When the road split in two directions, she racked her brain to remember which way she had come from. She made a right and padded down the new row of houses, they were familiar now. "We're almost there." The little black she-cat mewed in reply after a while. The drying mud was uncomfortable and the thought of having to lick it off didn't appeal to her. The smell wasn't very nice and she knew the taste must be far worse. She stopped and looked on at the box den. The first several fox lengths up the wall were carefully placed stones followed by an upside down V shape of small black bricks and above it was horizontal slabs of grey and topped with another, larger, V shape of small black bricks. It had a few stairs leading up to the door with two pillars of white and the yard was evenly cut grass with a few evergreen bushes dotting its surface and finished off with an old, light brown fence with woven ivy tendrils along it. The snow covered parts of the V and most of the yard, dull black lights strung along the edge of the V, around the pillars and a tangled net of them over the bushes. The dark, wooden door dawned a simple green reef with a red bow at the top, but the lights were all off and there was no beast peaking out from the normally open beast-den that was now closed. "This is my owner's box." She informed Fand happily, pushing through the wide gaps in the fence so that she was in the yard.

Fand hesitated for a moment before following Holly into the yard. The box looked even larger up close than it had from the path they'd come from, and she eyed it suspciously, as if she expected twolegs to crawl from its front door any minute. The windows looked like cold, dead eyes. She shivered.
"It doesn't look like the twolegs you're seeking are here", she remarked the obvious. "Shouldn't they have come looking by now? Or are we just going to wait for them here?"
At that moment, a Beast came roaring down the small twoleg road they'd come from, and Fand wasn't sure whether to hide or stay and hope that it carried Holly's twolegs. But then it halted in front of the neighbouring twoleg box and fell asleep. It was a shiny red Beast, glittering underneath the frost. Its sides sprang open and spit out four twolegs, two adults and what Fand assumed were their kits - essentially smaller versions, a girl and a small boy. They seemed happy to have escaped the Beast's belly, but Fand couldn't make sense of their language.
These didn't seem to be the twolegs they were seeking.

"I don't think they're here either. Let's just wait; they'll come." Holly reassured, padding over to the stairs. She awkwardly made her way up and circled up next to one of the white pillars. She turned her head at the beast, but was disappointed to see it turn into the other box. "We should sleep while we wait, it'll help pass the time, plus, no use in wasting this time." The little black cat let out a soft yawn and blinked closed her eyes, trying to let sleep take her.
