Introduction --
The sand is scorching the bottom of your paw pads, you think to yourself this is what it must feel like to run across hot coals. With muscles aching, and throat screaming from lack of water, you press on from some force of will you didn't know you had up until now. How long had you been running? Your dehydration had caused you to forget, though it feels like forever. Behind you, trials and trails of paw steps line the sand only to be blown over by a sudden harsh wind that throws rocks at your ankles. StarClan is telling you to pick up the pace. Losing yourself in auto-pilot, you began to run, sand spitting in your eyes and in your mouth and ears. Wavering lines dance far in front of you, you squint, trying to make out what it could be that felt so far. A very tall tower climbed high into the sky, reaching out like outstretched fingers to the sun. Beside the tower you see a large claw of shadow, shade! And shelter! Instinct pushes you to run faster as you escape the turret of sand kicking at you. It can't be far... It can't be far! You tell yourself in your dizzy state of dreaming, watching the tower reach ever closer, but with every step it feels to be slipping from you. Keep going! Keep going! You struggle, you tumble. Your torso impacts with the ground first, sending your neck snapping forward and your snout to make an indent in the sand. You close your eyes tight to keep the sand from violating you, and a pale darkness shrouds you as if in mercy. Realizing your nodding off, you fight to open your eyes, and you do for a brief second to see a small black figure racing towards you. Help...? Was the last thing you think before your body shut off...
Swimming through a black, liquid ocean of slumber for hours on end seems to have washed off the sand that was nearly embedded in your skin, as you awake and that is the first thing you realize. You're clean, you're... Not scorching hot. Still dizzy, you try to get a grips on where you are as your brain is slowly booted back up. It's cold, and dark, but you can still feel sand underneath you that holds you like a cushion. Lifting your head, your eyes focus on a single point of light that dims a portion of this room. All around you, walls made of stone, arching forward to a tip high above you where light bathes an orange glow on the sand. Finding the strength to stand, you begin to walk. There are dark, shadowy figures moving up the walls diagonally, looking as though they were climbing. Fear pumps through you, strangers, enemies? Were they going to harvest you? Were they imprisoning you?! The thought is enough to make your fur stand on end, and you're so horrified that at the sound of a sweet, small voice you nearly scream. Whipping your head around so fast your ears couldn't follow in time you look down at a small calico kitten with huge eyes, and round bells in her ears. She smiles at your state of being and tries to hide a laugh, but the amusement was painted all over her. "You sure are funny stranger! Do you have any idea where you are?" You shake your head, looking over her as if searching for a hidden threat. "That doesn't surprise me... You were lost in the heat of the desert you know! You're lucky we found you, I don't think you would have lived!" She in turn, looks you over, bouncing around your body and sniffing at you. Fear keeps your paws nailed in the sand.
"Don't be afraid! Hmmhmm! You're in DuneClan now, we can protect you. I'm Jinglestar, and you look like you'd be fun to play with!" DuneClan? Jinglestar? A faint memory of being told about clans comes to you from a haze. "Would you like to join us, warrior?"
Rules --
1.) Be kind to one another. That should always be the number one rule.
2.) When it comes to making characters, I have always been lineament when it comes to how you can make them. However, please keep in mind the characteristics of cats in this clan. It would be a struggle to have a cat with thick fur out in this sort of heat, but I won't say you can't, just make sure to work these things into your character. Mary sues are not at all allowed, everyone has flaws, that's what makes people interesting. Cats with powers is frowned upon, unless it is for a prophecy, or something else. Please ask me for anything you are unsure about, and I'd be pleased to answer. Characters with differing genders, or the like are welcome.
3.) I've never had a big issue with spamming, as long as you dip in to grab a friend, or just say hello. I'm fine with that, but please do not come here top advertise, or anything of the sort, thank you for understanding.
4.) As for RPing and literacy, I would consider this a literate, to a semi-literate clan. Please be thoughtful with your responses. I won't have a line-count, because that's just silly to me, but please write with detail. Please also try to play ALL your characters, they are creations you have made and they should all be given light, thank you for understanding.
5.) I love drama, and I love romance - feel free to have all the drama! But for BIG things, like something invading the camp,or the like, please wait until I am here and ask me. Romance of all shapes and sizes are allowed, mXm fXf, it all goes.
6.) I only ask that you don't join, and then never return please.
Territory --
DuneClan territory isn't very varied, as one might guess. A huge span of our territory is desert, bleak, and bland. This is the kind of desert where plants don't live, no cacti, hardly any source of prey. For the most part, these regions of our land go untouched, as there isn't much we can do out here, especially not during the day. At night, these portions of the territory can carry a few pieces of prey, but mostly, we get our food from the oasis. To the most northern part of our borders is a large oasis, a calming, cool pool that is fed from a large stream that breaks off from a river far away from the touches of our land, this place is called Ripplethaw Oasis This is the only place life grows, grass, and palm trees that carry rich fruit. Prey thrives in this part of the land, so it is no doubt that is out most popular resting place. There are a few other landmarks however. Spire Rock, a strange land mark located out in the middle of the desert, is a series of large rocks that shoot out from the ground, and stretch forward. This is a sacred part of our land, and has a huge role in our history. However, nothing lives out here. The Catacombs, another very rich part of our history, is located to the very left most part of our territory. It can be found by the entrance, which is the mouth of a cave. This part of the land is sanctioned off, allowing no one access as not only is it dangerous, it is horrifying. Inside are the remains of hundreds of fallen warriors, whose bones were cleaned and set up to create this underground den, a maze of stacked skulls and other remains. Originally made for spiritual purposes, this place now holds a cold presence. It's said in the deepest parts of the catacombs, lights glow from candles lit hundreds of moons ago, and remains lit by the souls that are kept there. Our last landmark is a human den in the southern part of our land, that has long since been destroyed. However, these is a good place to seek refuge if you are too far from camp, and is still filled with things the humans had. The apprentices seem to flock to this area as their 'cool hangout spot.'
Camp --
The DuneClan camp has a very strange archaeological build, with no information about how the place came to be, History does not tell us if our ancestors built it, or rather found it. Regardless, we live in a pyramid, with walls built of sandstone. It's clear that we are incredibly well protected from all sorts of enemies, and elements from here. The only way to enter is to scale the tower, using divots and claw marks etched into the stone. At the very tip is a large opening, and from there, a series of stones jut from the wall to create stairs that our clan has to jump across. It is quiet challenging for new apprentices to get the hang of it. At the very base of the pyramid is where our dens are made, also out of stone. The walls of our dens are created from sandstone, molded into the wall to create a small, almost human like home. The nursery is the largest den, and is more rectangular to cozily hold the queens, and kits. The medicine cats den is the tallest den, that has several shelves along the side to hold medicine, and enough room to hold patients. The warriors, and the apprentices den are the same, a large den that is divided from top to bottom. Apprentinces sleep atop, and have to awkwardly launch themselves up to the second story, while warriors are comfortably on the bottom. The Leaders den is curbed like a dome, with a clear, door like opening that is covered in lichen. The Elders Den is similar, but the roof is not curbed, but square. At the very top of the pyramid where the light seeps through, is a very large circular cork made of strong wood that is set there as safety in case of a harsh sandstorm, our warriors can pull it over the cover to protect sand from sweeping in.
History --
We will be marking our history by generation of rulers. History had been shared through our clan by word of mouth, stories told about the olden days. Our creation begins with the first ruler, Pharon, who was said to have founded our camp, and our land. Pharon was a cat sent by the Gods, and it was said when he landed the impact of the crash set a line across our land, which indicated our borders, and range of territory. For several years, Pharon build our clan, recruiting people to join him as they build our clan up to what it was meant to be. During this earlier years, Pharon prosper. It was said he was a very generous leader, who was unselfish, and listened to his comrades. Those who ruled beneath him believed him to live forever, as he was gifted from the Gods, however it was not to last. Pharon succumbed to a sickness during his elder years that crippled him. Knowing that death was close, Pharon had to select an heir. He chose his mate, Skylyn, to lead his clan - which up until now was only seen as a congregation, and had not yet been given its name. Shortly after the heir was chosen, Pharon passed away.
Skylyn was met with mixed results from her clan, a majority of her clan was skeptical about her ability, but though Skylyn was a very sweet and motherly soul, when she was selected as heir she led her clan with the tenacity that Pharon had. Where as her mate brought the strength to her clan, and originally built it, Skylyn gave the brains. She taught her clan the best way to hunt, our battle strategy, new medicines and, she settled the congregation of this clan. She divided up cats from warriors, to medicine cats and apprentices, and settled the naming ritual for each. She changed her name to Skystar, and dubbed this land, DuneClan. This period in history is looked at as the Golden Age, and to most, Skystar was the best leader. She lead her clan for many years, until old age had also gotten to her. While she was alive, she decided to have a litter of kits, and would establish that the lineage of leaders would be passed on through genetics. But, sadly, most of all Skystar's kittens had died. The only one that survived was a small kitten. Skystar planned to raise this child to recieve the thrown, but she unexpectedly died of sickness, just like her mate had. The Clan nervously followed their past leraders wishes, and recruited the young kitten to the throne.
Thus starts the beginning of the Dark Ages. The child was named GoldStar, named after the wonderful ages his mother had brought. Sadly, Goldstar was very sick. The Clan, fearing he would not live long and leave them with no heir, tried to settle another government. It was settled that along side the leader would be another important role, deputy. The role was given to Venomfang, whom the clan had respected as being a very strong warrior. Venomfang's ambition quickly seized him, as in the leaders place, he began to give commands. As Goldstar grew, he tried to claim his place to the thrown, and take the place that Venomfang had fallen into of ordering his clan mates, but Venomfang abused the young kit. Venomfang wanted power, and he knew that if the kit were to die when it was still young, the clan would appoint him as the new ruler. So,. Venomfang killed Goldstar, yet staged it to make it look like a sudden death from sickness by feeding him Deathberries. Goldstar passed away, and was buried beside his mother. DuneClan, unaware of the treachery, was forced to appoint Venomfang to leader.
Venomstar lead DuneClan through an incredibly dark time. It's told he was incredibly abusive this warriors, forcing kits to become apprentices when they were much too young, leading a clan that was much more focused on combat than it was for their own well being. Venomstar wanted more territory, and his plot was to create an army of cats that were so strong that they could go into the surrounding areas past their desert and flourish. His plan backfired, as he lead a huge swarm of cats, who were malnourished into battle. During the trip alone through the desert, almost half his army had succumbed to the elements, but when they finally reached the forest far from our land, a group of cats who had created a similar congregation, attacked them back. The healthy cats in the forest absolutely ruined the DuneClan cats, and Venomstar was forced to retreat. The dead bodies were taken to the cave that would soon become the Catacombs. It's passed down that Venomstar had begun to go insane from the hunger for ambition, the desire to need more and more. He began to religiously pray to the Gods for help, and he was told that to appease them he needed to make a sanctuary to pray in. Thus, he took the several cats that died from the crusade and polished their bones, creating the catacombs. DuneClan was falling into ruin without proper lead, a rebellion was stirring. So many cats had lost their loyalty to Venomstar, so when one cat stood up to take lead, the clan followed that person.
The cat in charge of the rebellion was Cobaltfall, who was renown for being a very kind warrior, who would care for those who were pushed to their limit from Venomstar. They planned their attack for when Venomstar would leave to pray, and with a group of many cats, they ambushed him and killed him there in the catacombs. Those remaining of the clan agreed that Cobaltfall should rule, he graciously accepted the title. Cobaltstar changed DuneClan for the better, he stressed less on battle, and more on keeping his clan healthy, and educated. Slowly but surely, the clan had begun to repair itself from the Dark Ages. Meanwhile, the clan wanted to know how the hierarchy should work now. Cobaltstar agreed that the family of leaders should still be carried out through lineage, and a deputy would be there to help the leader not make horrendous decisions. For many years Cobaltstar lead his clan, but when it became time to produce an offspring, Cobaltstar found that he could not. The clan began to fear, who would they choose to be leader? Several members of the clan wanted it to be passed down to the deputy, but Cobaltstar refused. He told the clan that he had recieved a prophecy from the Gods. He said to DuneClan, shortly after his death, an unlikely cat would appear, who would sound the future for DuneClan. He would not say anymore. Members were outraged, and fearful, but they agreed to Cobaltstar's wish... Shortly after sharing his prophecy, Cobaltstar passed away from old age. Surely enough, not even a moon later, a kitten had appeared in the clan as if from nowhere, the leader we would now see as Jinglestar.
Characteristics --
Over the many, many years DuneClan has been here, we have adapted to the harsh land around us. Although not all of the members in our clan follow these characteristic traits, most do. DuneClan cats have very short fur to combat against the harsh heat the desert provides. Most pelts are a sandy golden color to help camouflage whilst hunting, but other colors are lighter tones of brown, to even white. Dark brown, or black is very rare to see, as darker colors absorb the sun more. The physique of our cats is more slender, and less bulky than most. We have very strong leg muscles that help us keep running for long periods of time at staggering speeds, and when you get down to it, that is what DuneClan excels at the most: stamina.
Religions --
Unlike most clans, DuneClan does not understand StarClan, as they have different deities. There are multiple Gods, who are subject to different kinda of domains, below are the listed ones.
Tecal - God of time, also known as the God with the highest power. In the realm of the Gods, he is the leader. Tecal is a very strict God, looked upon as a judge between right and wrong, the balance of good and evil. He is not evil, but he is not kind, as time keeps flowing to heal all wounds, but time takes those that we love. Through lore, it is believed that Tecal was a being made of sand, and stars.
Alsi - The God of the earth, Alsi is responsible for shaping the land. It's said taht as she was painting the world, she was shot in the heart from an archer, and bled onto the earth creating our desert. She is seen as a kind God, who was passionate and incredibly intelligent. Through lore, it is believed that Alsi was a nimble cat that could disappear at will, and had the color of green grass.
Bikai - The God of life, Bikai worked along with Alsi to bring life to this world. She created the plants, animals, and every other living thing and brought balance to their world. She was seen as a very playful and naive God, who was much like a kitten, and was very light hearted. She was seen as a bright blue cat that could turn into any living thing at will.
Ionis - The God of intelligence, Ionis worked along with Bikai to grant intelligence to several living things, granting them the power to make their own ideas and shape their world. He was seen as a very serious, and analytical tom cat with no time for fun. He was seen as being a dark blue cat with goregous golden markings all through his long coat.
Delar - The God of passing, Delar is a passive God, who leads dead cats to the realm of the Gods, or the realm of the Dark. He is seen as a quiet cat, who watches over everyone, and has candles lit in his domain. When a candle goes out, it represents the life of one of the DuneClan cats, and he comes to claim them. Delar was seen as a cat made of pure grey and black smoke with yellow eyes.
Malai - The God of death, Malai is commonly seen as an evil God, who was banished from the Realm of the Gods for being too ambitious and cold hearted. He rules over the realm of the Dark, the place where evil cats dwell. He is also said to grant intense power to anyone who signs their allegiance to him. Malai was seen as a cat made of tar, and stars, who was incredibly large and could kill any cat with the flick of a claw.
