frozenlaurel ★ The world was muffled by snow.
Frozenlaurel felt the silence like the frost around his ears, a chill that made his fur prickle. He shook his grey pelt, dislodging a few flakes. It was cold enough that they didn't immediately melt on his fur, which did keep him dry but--
"Someone help!" The grey tabby warrior spun on his paws, spraying snow as he sprinted towards Drizzlemimic's yowls. How had the young tom fallen so far behind? How did Frozenlaurel not notice?
The brown dog stood out like a smear of mud against the snow, a large target that Frozenlaurel's claws couldn't miss as he threw his weight into its shoulder, trying to pull it off of Drizzlemimic. The dog staggered, but was too large for the grey warrior to push off balance, even with the inertia of his charge behind him.
Stars, he hoped Bubblingstar was close behind him.
The dog turned its neck to snap at him and Frozenlaurel gritted his teeth and pulled himself atop its shoulders, digging his claws deeply into its flank to hold on as it tried to reach him. The forest spun as the dog snapped side to side.
His claws slipped, slickened with blood, and Frozenlaurel tried desperately to stay out of the dog's reach but--
S N A P
His leg caught between the dog's shoulder blade and its powerful flank, pushed a direction it was not meant to bend. Electric pain shot up Frozenlaurel's spine and he was forced to let go, flung away from the dog by a last, powerful shake.
At least the snow cushioned his fall, covering him in a drift as he skidded to a stop, muting the world as his head was covered in a thin sheet of white. He breathed heavily, pain and panic clamoring, crowding his thoughts.
He hoped he had bought enough time for Bubblingstar to arrive. He hoped the two warriors could finish chasing off the dog without him. He hoped, he hoped--Frozenlaurel squeezed his eyes shut, biting back a whimper--he hoped it was enough, because he could do nothing more.

BUBBLINGSTAR - The Dog with Drizzlemimic and Frozenlaurel. His kits were apprentices now, an idea that once excited him now only filled him with dread. Bubblingstar trusted the mentors he'd chosen for Whorlpaw and Foxpaw- he wouldn't have chosen them otherwise. But things happened, he knew that better than anyone. He still hadn't the heart to tell Peach what happened to Blizzardkit. She was independent, not really suited for mothering, but she had still trusted him to keep them safe. How was he supposed to look her in the eye and tell her that now there was a possibility they could die in battle- not just to the elements? The old tom sighed, long and weary. He just had to do his best. It seems like that's all I can do, Bubblingstar thought bitterly. He tossed his head to check on the two other warriors with him. Frozenlaurel followed him some paces away, and Drizzlemimic... his eyes widened, glancing around the area. Where was Drizzlemimic? " Someone help!" Bubblingstar cursed, speeding off to the young warrior's call. He smelt the dog long before he saw it, and his claws unsheathed into the ground instinctively. With a huff, he leapt from the dead undergrowth, seconds after Frozenlaurel. He watched helplessly as the other tom was caught and tossed aside by snapping jaws- bravely distracting it from Drizzlemimic's shocked figure. With a cry, he leapt for the beast's throat, swiping and clawing at what he hoped was a decent weak point. If he could hurt it enough it might chose to run off! Deftly, he avoided the canine's fangs for far longer than he should've been able too- but all luck had to run out eventually. A screech echoed throughout the cold forest as a set of large fangs clamped down on his shoulder- pain exploding down his side. Bubblingstar hissed and yowled, tearing at the dog's face best as he could with only three free legs.
He must've caught an eye, because his front claw hit something sickeningly squishy. The dog finally dropped him, shaking free with a yelp before speeding off from back where it came.
edit;; if you saw this before i edited it for brownie's post no you didn't

Spottedfur : Checks up on Drizzlemimic and makes him feel better (+++) Spottedfur decided that he would check up on Drizzlemimic now that his whitecough was gone. Maybe the young warrior could use some cat to talk to. Although the speckled tom was bored and wanted to help out somehow. Talking to his clanmates seemed like one way to do it yet lately he had given advice that was less than helpful.
As the elder made his way across the clearing, he kept his eyes peeled for the grey and white tom. It didn't take long for him to find Drizzlemimic. He slowly padded towards him, his joint aching with each step. "Hey, Drizzlemimic. How are you doing?" Spottedfur asked before coming to a halt. He'd need to sit down soon, but he was determined to check up on his clanmate first.

Stormmask : burdock root with Shadepatch, Slatefoot & Foxpaw Stormmask plunged her paw carefully into the snow and pushed it back. She was listening to Slatefoot and Foxpaw's conversation out of mere curiosity. Even though she and Slatefoot didn't interact that much, it was clear that she was going to be an excellent mentor. Unlike Stormmask herself who struggled with mentorship, she found Slatefoot's approach to be much better. She couldn't say the same for herself when she was supposed to train Shadepatch.
The grey tabby's paws were growing cold with each push she made in the snow. She had finally found one burdock root and let out a small sigh of relief. One burdock root wasn't enough, but it was a start. She forced herself to continue digging until her paws were deep enough into the snow. The medicine cat carefully pulled out some burdock roots, grinning like a silly fool each time. "I'm surprised there's so much burdock root here," she commented. "This will really help Bubblingstar and Frozenlaurel."

frozenlaurel ★ Frozenlaurel thought he was a great warrior. He was brave, he was great at hunting and while he never had any formal fighting training, he knew his way around a scrap. It had been nearly two years since he'd joined YewClan and he knew the Code, the territory, and YewClan's stories as if they were his own tabby swirls.
Bubblingstar was to retire soon. The ginger tomcat hadn't said anything about it, but... Frozenlaurel could feel the time approaching. Spottedfur and Scarletdrift had both been younger than Bubblingstar when they retired, though Frozenlaurel guessed that leadership might have something to do with Bubblingstar's ability to fight and hunt long beyond what was reasonable for a cat his age.
Perhaps StarClan's nine lives were more than metaphorical.
Frozenlaurel wasn't sure if he believed that much--he was still skeptical that YewClan's ancestors weren't anything more than a manifestation of the Clan's collective faith--but it would certainly explain how Bubblingstar managed to fight off the dog despite his wounds.
Though he certainly had looked as close to death as a cat could when Drizzlemimic had helped the leader back to camp, trailing blood. Frozenlaurel's own injury felt insignificant compared to Bubblingstar's bite, even if it had been the worst pain Frozenlaurel had felt in his entire life, limping back, unable to put even a whisker of weight on his twisted front leg.
He'd been brave. And he would do it again, for any cat in YewClan. Frozenlaurel had been as certain as he could be, before, but that was the kind of question you couldn't really, truly answer until you were confronted with it.
He knew, down to his bones, that even with the knowledge that he'd be injured afterward, he would have leapt into the fight again. And again. As many times as he needed to, in order to protect his Clanmates.
The certainty of his soul warmed him almost as much as the moss in the cozy healer's den. His leg was splinted now, bristling with vines and leaves and twigs, the grey fur slicked with drying pastes of herbs that smelled overwhelmingly of garlic. So long as he didn't jostle it, the leg was numbed enough that he didn't feel any pain, and the dull ache faded over time just like the smell of garlic did.
Frozenlaurel's tail twitched, rustling some moss. The entrance to the healer's den was narrow, but it was impossible to mistake Drizzlemimic's dark, spotted patches even if the white of his fur blended into the snow-covered trees beyond.
"Drizzlemimic!" Frozenlaurel called, hoping the young tom would notice his voice. It wasn't like Frozenlaurel was able to leave his nest to chase after him, but he did want to check in with Drizzlemimic. He was fond of the young warrior and wanted him to know how well he'd done last moon.

Drizzlemimic- Is being called over by Frozenlaurel Dark. Cold. Miserable. That was the only way for Drizzlemimic to describe the forest he was traversing. It nothing like the one at home in YewClan. It felt unfamiliar to him, yet he continued walking through. He didn’t know where he was going, or why he was heading there. Fear started to congregate in the young warriors mind, as he heard loud barking behind him. He looked back and saw the clear silhouette of the dog that had attacked him, still chasing him. He started to run, hoping to get away from the predator. He didn’t want to die, but he didn’t want anyone he knew to get hurt because of him either. He ran as fast as he could, until he tripped on branch and fell on the ground. As he looked up he could see the hulking figure of the dog pouncing on him and- Drizzlemimic woke up. It was just another nightmare. He had been getting them constantly since the dog attack. He just couldn’t shake the feeling that, if he was just stronger, his clan mates could have gotten away unscathed. But because of his stupidity and weakness, Bubblingstar and Frozenlaurel were in the medicine den, fighting the pain. What if they died because of me? Drizzlemimic could have never forgiven himself if that happened. He walked out of the warrior den, hoping to find something to distract himself with. I could go hunting, he thought to himself. Yet, somehow, he felt like he didn’t have enough energy for that. Then, Drizzlemimic noticed Frozenlaurel calling him over from the medicine den. He hesitated for a second, but then walked up to the warrior to see how he was doing. “Hey, Frozenlaurel… I hope your leg is healing well after… Y’know.” Drizzlemimic said with guilt. He couldn’t help but blame himself for what happened. “Frozenlaurel, no matter how hard I try, I’m not strong enough. I wasn’t able to fight of the dog last moon. And because of that, you and Bubblingstar got hurt. All of that pain, it’s my fault. Because I wasn’t skilled enough to take down the dog, because I was mouse brained and separated from the rest of the patrol… If I was just a better warrior, it could have all been prevented…”. Drizzlemimic- Hunting with Dappleswipe/Thinks he saw a dog earlier Drizzlemimic followed the deputy on their hunting patrol, treading through the snow. It had still yet to melt, despite new leaf arriving, which made hunting a bit more difficult. The grey and white warrior was constantly looking around and sniffing the air for any prey nearby. Still, Drizzlemimic was thinking about the dog attack last moon. It was the scariest thing to have ever happened to him, the closest he had ever gotten to death. He couldn’t have been more thankful to Bubblingstar and Frozenlaurel for saving his life. Still, sometimes, in the corner of his eye, he could swear he still sees the dog. He quickly flinched to the side, trying to tell if he actually saw the predator again, or if was just the a trick of the lighting. It was only for a split second, yet, it looked just like the dog. He turned to Dappleswipe and said “I thought I saw a… Dappleswipe, you lead a patrol searching for the dog right? Do you think there’s any chance it’s still on the territory?”. frozenlaurel ★ The praises died on Frozenlaurel's tongue as Drizzlemimic's worries and guilt filled the air. The grey tom didn't think, he stood. He really wasn't supposed to be moving much and his bound leg certainly made that known, but the pain (and the potential scolding from Stormmask) mattered so little right now.
Instead, he bopped his head against Drizzlemimic's, twitching his whiskers into the young tom's pelt. "You did exactly what any warrior would have done in your pawprints: you called for your Clanmates and kept yourself safe enough to fight back once help arrived.
"No cat could have won against a dog that size without help. I certainly didn't," he mewed, and resisted the urge to wiggle his injured leg as emphasis. That... wouldn't be a good idea. "And Bubblestar wouldn't have been able to do it alone either, that's why it was so important that you were uninjured to help!"
In reality, Frozenlaurel didn't actually know what had happened after he fell, covered in snow. He'd heard the fight, muffled, his pounding heart feeling like the dog's pawsteps coming towards him, but it never did. Bubblingstar and Drizzlemimic had chased it away.
"In my eyes," Frozenlaurel said, a bit softer, pulling away from Drizzlemimic so he could see the tom's face. "You're the one that saved me. I just distracted it long enough so you could recover."
He paused, tipped his head. "And I'd do it again in a heartbeat. You know that, right? This isn't like the city, where a broken leg is a death sentence if a cat isn't strong enough to defend their turf and scavenge for food. I have YewClan to feed and shelter me, medicine cats to heal me. Stars, it's downright cozy in here," he said with a small chuckle, waving his tail to encompass the entire healer's den.
"I called you over because I wanted to thank you, Drizzlemimic. You're the one that discovered the threat and did what you needed to do to ensure it wouldn't be a threat to YewClan any longer. So thank you." ★ chocolatemilk7 Nooooo baby don't have trauma </3 as soon as I saw that his thought bubble was "thought he saw a dog" I was like. No this is gonna be so sad ;-; ★

Drizzlemimic- Therapy with Frozenlaurel Drizzlemimic raised his head shortly after laying out all of his worries before the older warrior. Frozenlaurel showered him with reassuring words and praises, making sure that he knew he did the right thing. Drizzlemimic held back for a second and gave Frozenlaurel a large smile. He hadn’t even considered the possibility that if he didn’t go after the dog, it could have gotten away undetected and hurt more cats in YewClan. When you put it that way, Drizzlemimic almost sound like a hero! But what he was really glad about was that his clan mates didn’t blame him for what happened, and that they were proud of him and supported him. He leaned his head against Frozenlaurel and closed his eyes, still smiling. “Thank you so much Frozenlaurel. I… really needed to hear that. You’ve made me feel so much better than before. I guess I should be glad that Stemriver brought me to YewClan.” he laughed. “I doubt I would receive this much support anywhere else.”. He pulled his head back and opened his eyes again, this time with a determined look. “And I promise to return the favor one day! I’ll save your life, just you wait and see! Hopefully not from a dog though, they still give me creeps.” he chuckled. “Still, if I have to fight another one, I will.”. Drizzlemimic took a quick look outside of the den, seeing a bit of the territory. He wondered if the dog was still out there. Wherever it is, it’s probably far away from YewClan territory. He, Frozenlaurel and Bubblingstar truly gave it a lesson it’ll never forget. Maybe now my nightmares will start to end too. He turned to Frozenlaurel with an enthusiastic expression. “Say, after your leg heals, you wanna go for another patrol together?”. Tagging Brownie

Feathertalon Mistleheart ( Is determined to protect her loved ones, and congratulates Slatefoot on a job well done +) Mistleheart woke up from her sleep in the warrior's den. Getting up, she yawned like a lion and stretched her front paws. Today will be a great day, as she will spend some time with her best friend, Slatefoot, and then go on a border patrol to check the borders. However, the thought about going on a border patrol made her spine shiver with fear, she must do it to protect her Clanmates. Last moon, a large dog attacked Drizzlemimic, Frozenlaurel and Bubblingstar. The dog injured Bubblingstar, and caused Frozenlaurel to end up with a broken hind leg! When Mistleheart and two other cats went on a border patrol a moon ago to find the dog that attacked the earlier patrol to chase it off, she found the dog running in a circle in and out of Clan territory. Because of that, she and the others wasn't able to chase it off, and it could attack again with another patrol, or worse... it could attack YewClan camp! Mistleheart was ready to throw herself at the dog if she came across it again on a patrol, or it attacks camp. The fluffy white and gray warrior was willing to sacrifice her life to save her Clanmates from the dog if they came across it again. After-all, Mistleheart was very loyal to her Clan and the Warrior Code, and at her warrior ceremony many moons, she strongly agreed to the oath of risking her life to save her Clanmates that Bubblingstar spoke of, determined to be as loyal as she can to the Warrior Code. She would do anything to save her Clanmates; jump into the river to save a Clanmate from drowning, jump into the fire to save a Clanmate from burning, and... in this case, throw herself at the dog to save her Clanmates from being mauled to death. In short, Mistleheart was very determined to protect her Clanmates from terrible fates, like what happened to poor Blizzardkit with the hawk in the beginning of leaf-bare, risking her life in the process. Mistleheart outside the warrior's den, and pushed her way through the melting snow in camp, looking for her best friend, Slatefoot. She was laid free of her duties until sunhigh and wanted to use it spending time with Slatefoot. She found the dark gray warrior teaching her apprentice, Foxpaw hunting poses. Mistleheart sat down and watched the training season. When she was finished training the apprentice, Mistleheart padded to Slatefoot, her fluffy white tail high the air. " Good morning Slatefoot. You did a great job with this morning training session with your apprentice, Foxpaw!" Purred Mistleheart. It was great to see her best friend experiencing being a mentor... finally... after many moons of waiting to get an apprentice! She spent the rest of her free time chatting and hanging out with Slatefoot. jaybun! Mistleheart (Hunting patrol with Hazelpelt and Whorlpaw, and hears Whorlpaw complaining behind her back ---) Mistleheart was assigned to help Hazelpelt and her apprentice, Whorlpaw's hunting training out in the forest by the deputy, Dappleswipe. She felt very happy that she got to help one of the new apprentices learn to hunt. Purring, she padded out of the camp entrance with the golden brown she-cat, Hazelpelt and the small ginger tom, Whorlpaw. Though, Mistleheart was worried about Hazelpelt's change of behaviour recently, she seems to be a bit more... hostile lately. The snow around them was finally melting in the late thaw. New shoots were pushing through the snow to the open, and it was starting to warm up. Above Mistleheart and the other cats, the birds were singing overhead... maybe they were celebrating the late arrival of newleaf and the weather starting to get warmer. Not only that, the trees were starting to regrow their leaves. Mistleheart heard the apprentice, Whorlpaw strutting proudly in the snow. She could hear him mumbling something. " Oh why is Mistleheart coming with me?! She's such a strict Warrior Code follower, and the Warrior Code is for mouse-brains! Why must we follow the Code the ancestors set us! We should follow our own rules, after all... we are LIVING, and they are DEAD! " Mistleheart felt herself boiling with anger. She raised her hackles, flattened her ears, and unsheathed her claws. How dare Whorlpaw disrespect ME, and the Warrior Code again?! I thought he learnt that lesson when he was a kit!" WHORLPAW!" Shouted Mistleheart, her temper flaring. " HOW DARE YOU DISPERECT THE WARRIOR CODE AGAIN?! We need to respect our ancestors and the Code! And complaining about ME being a STRICT Warrior Code follower is NOT GOOD too! I'm just trying to be the best warrior under StarClan's eyes! You should be doing the same to become the best warrior of yourself!" Mistleheart could see the apprentice whimpering and digging his claws into the snow in annoyance of himself. "' I'm sorry Mistleheart!" Cried Whorlpaw " I didn't think you would hear me! I just don't see how following the Warrior allow us to be great warriors!" Mistleheart took deep breaths and felt herself calm down. She lowered her hackles and sheathed her claws. " Whorlpaw" mewed Mistleheart " In time, you will understand how important the Warrior Code is to our daily lives in the Clan, and how they make us Clan cats and not rogues." But Whorlpaw turned his head and let out a huff. Mistleheart decided not to continue the topic further. Deep in the forest, Mistleheart heard rustling in the snow. She hushed the apprentice, whispering the he needs to be quiet as he doesn't want to scare the prey away. Once the scuttling gets louder, the tangy scent of mouse from right ahead of the cats, reached Mistleheart's nose. " Whorlpaw, do you smell and hear the mouse?" Mistleheart whispered to the apprentice, still annoyed by the earlier incident of him complaining about her behind her back. jaybun! Whorlpaw (Hunting patrol with Hazelpelt and Mistleheart, and complains about Mistleheart behind her back ---) Whorlpaw was angry when Dappleswipe assigned Mistleheart on the training patrol with him and his mentor. He liked fluffy white she-cat, but he didn't want to train with her, because of her strictness to the Warrior Code. The small ginger tom believed that the Clan can thrive under the rules of LIVING cats, not DEAD cats. Dead cats are dead, and shouldn't be ordering the living cats what to do, at least that is what the ginger apprentice, Whorlpaw thought. He decided to mutter his annoyance under his breath, which Mistleheart overheard behind her back, and scolded him for disrespecting her and the Warrior Code again. Deeper in the woods, Whorlpaw heard a creature scuttering in front of him, and was instructed by Mistleheart if he can smell mouse. He gave a small hiss. Mistleheart's isn't my mentor! Hazelpelt is the one who should be instructing me about if I smell something! Whorlpaw sniffed the air, and the smell of mouse wafted in his nose. His stomach growled at the thought of eating it. He and the others walked a bit more, and he saw a mouse in front of him, nibbling on a fat seed. Whorlpaw dropped down to his paws and slowly crept towards the unfortunate creature. The mouse had no idea that there was a cat hunting it, as it continued to nibble the seed. The small ginger tom raised his haunches and wriggled his bottom, the move that his mentor, Hazelpelt taught him at the end of last moon. And Whorlpaw sprang in the air and caught the mouse under his claws. The mouse let out a squeal of terror before the small ginger cat bit into its neck, ending its life and falling limp. Whorlpaw raised his tail up in the air proudly as he strut back to his mentor, Hazelpelt and Mistleheart. " Well done, Whorlpaw!" Mistleheart praised him. You are really getting the hang of hunting!"Whorlpaw purred with pride as his stomach growled with hunger, and his mouth watered at the smell of the dead mouse. " Thank you!" Purred Whorlpaw " can I eat my mouse now?" Mistleheart's ears pricked as he said it. " No Whorlpaw" she mewed " the Warrior Code firmly states that you can't eat the prey that you caught while out hunting! You must return the mouse to the fresh-kill pile, and wait until it is your turn to eat. The elders, queens and kits eat first, but we have only have elders at the moment, Spottedfur and Scarletdrift, so they eat first." " Seriously?!" Meowed Whorlpaw " the so-called Warrior Code forces you to not eat the prey you caught out hunting?! That is mouse-brained! I'm hungry! I want to eat! Why must I return the mouse to the fresh-kill pile?!" Whorlpaw saw Mistleheart sigh. " That is the way the Warrior Code works, Whorlpaw." She mewed. " Like I said over a moon ago when you was still a kit, you will understand the Code's importance during your training as an apprentice." " Really...?" Said Whorlpaw, irritated. " That's how it works?! Well I AM an apprentice!" But Mistleheart said nothing more on the topic about the dreaded Warrior Code. Instead, she rubbed against his body and purred. " You did really well hunting today." She mewed. " Lets go home. You can show the others the mouse that you caught today!" Oh... and instead of putting the mouse in the fresh-kill pile this sunrise, you can give the mouse to Spottedfur!" Mistleheart added with a smirk evident in her white face. Sulking, Whorlpaw walked back with his mentor and Mistleheart with the mouse that he had to give away to one of the elders, due to the fox-hearted Warrior Code. chocolatemilk7 Whorlpaw ( Wonders how Frozenlaurel is doing, and had a chat with Drizzlemimic that them both happy +) Whorlpaw woke up from his afternoon nap in the apprentice den. Since his troubles sleeping in his new den, and his nightmares of his father, Bubblingstar dying tragically, he has been catching up on some sleep. He got up onto his paws, and started grooming himself to prepare himself for the sundown. As the ginger apprentice groomed himself, his thoughts drifted to Frozenlaurel and his broken hind leg, which he got from defending Drizzlemimic from a large dog a moon ago. He hoped that Frozenlaurel was alright, and he will heal from his broken bone. He wondered how he was doing. He seems like a really cool cat, defending Drizzlemimic from that nasty dog! I don't want anything to happen to him!Whorlpaw finished grooming his pelt, he padded outside of the apprentice's den to see the camp filled with melting snow and puddles of water from the snow that has melted. He spotted Drizzlemimic some foxlengths away, and Whorlpaw pushed through the snow to get to him. Drizzlemimic was the son of the cool cat, Frozenlaurel that he learnt about. He had the whole sundown to spend time with him. " Good evening Drizzlemimic" Mewed Whorlpaw happily. " How are you? How's your hunting going?" " I caught a mouse today!" He purred proudly. " Though I had to give it away to Spottedfur because of the Warrior Code..." Whorlpaw added. Whorlpaw spent the whole evening with Drizzlemimic, chatting and spending time with each other. He was the cat who taught him the really cool battle move of flipping your opponent on the back and raking their bellies last moon, so THIS was a cat that Whorlpaw wanted to spend time with! OOC: That dog attack last moon was really written well last moon! My spine was shivering.

Heavy »
The world was finally awakening.
After three dreary moons of leaf-bare, the wind chilling to the bone and the prey thinner than a fragile twig, the sun was finally strong enough to melt the snow that lingered. Damp soil squelched underneath the calico's paws as Heavy padded silently through the forest. Her eyes drifted toward her companions, checking them over to make sure all three remained nearby; Hayfeather, Cinderdapple, and Thrushfleck were all not far from her, lingering just a few pawsteps behind as she headed the group of four ever closer to the BurdockClan border. It had been a few days since that particular border had been checked and remarked. Dappleswipe had assigned Heavy to lead the patrol that would accomplish this task.
A slow smile flickered across the senior warrior's maw. She recalled how just a few seasons ago, how just a few moons ago, taking charge of such an important mission would have had her uneasy in her own pelt, but in the last moon or so she had found a new source of determination from within her, a new flickering flame of ambition that had sparked within her chest. Leading a patrol was easy now. She had no doubt that she could accomplish this and return back to the Clan with good news. Dappleswipe would be glad she had named Heavy as this patrol's leader. Heavy would not disappoint her Clan today.
In the midst of her thoughts, Heavy almost didn't notice the thick scent of BurdockClan that arrived with the breeze. They were close to the border, but close to the border or not, BurdockClan scent wouldn't be this fresh unless...
"Is some cat there?"
Heavy's hackles raised out of instinct; waving her tail in a silent signal for her patrol to stay back, the calico slowly inched her way closer to the border. Parting through a bush and a curtain of ferns that had found new growth in the coming warmth, Heavy found herself laying her gaze upon a small ashy gray molly, her shoulders hazed over with a dusting of orange.
An apprentice. This cat was of no threat to Heavy or her patrolmates, but that left a lot more questions than answers.
Slowly as to not frighten the young cat, Heavy made her way to the border, stopping a mere mouse-length from the sent markers. "Are you okay, dear?" Motherly instinct lowered her hackles that had raised earlier, gentleness creeping into her voice, warmth melting her gaze. She scanned the young cat up and down, checking for any signs of injuries or illness. Nothing stood out, the apprentice merely looking exhausted and nervous. The apprentice's green eyes, wide with discomfort, flashed toward Heavy, her tail quivering and jaw trembling, motioning in such a way that made Heavy wonder if she was trying to speak but couldn't find the words. "It's okay, we won't -"
"Oatpaw! What in StarClan's name are you doing?" A burly ginger tabby burst through the undergrowth on BurdockClan's side of the border, followed by a brown tom with thin tabby stripes and a second brown tabby, her fur dotted with puffs of white.
The young cat - Oatpaw was her name - whimpered at the sight of her Clanmates, her paws scrabbling along the ground, claws unsheathing. Oatpaw threw a quick, desperate glance toward Heavy. "H-help," she stammered, breath quickening, causing her words to become airy, ghost-like.
Without a second thought Heavy reached across the border. She grabbed the young molly by her scruff and maneuvered Oatpaw to where the pale furred apprentice was tucked protectively behind Heavy; the YewClan warrior straightened her posture, puffed her chest out, and raised her head. Blue eyes narrowed as they sharply gazed at the other Clan's patrol that had clearly come in search of Oatpaw. It was clear that Oatpaw was afraid of these cats. Whatever had happened to Oatpaw, it was clear enough to Heavy that the apprentice wanted help from enemy warriors rather than from her own Clanmates.
Stemriver.
The calico's heart throbbed painfully at the memory of her former mate. Had he been this afraid when he had fled from FlowerClan?
Taking a step forward, the tips of her paws brushing against the border, Heavy stared the BurdockClan patrol down. They didn't seem overly hostile, but it was clear that they wanted Oatpaw back. Too bad, Heavy thought, they aren't getting her back. "I don't know what's happened between your Clan and Oatpaw, but it seems to me that she doesn't want to return. I suggest the three of you leave."
The ginger tabby who appeared to be the leader of this particular patrol, flattened their ears, tail swishing from side to side. The fur along their spine ruffled. "She's a BurdockClan apprentice, she belongs to us. Oatpaw," they addressed the cowering apprentice once more, a low growl in their voice, "stop this act. Come back home."
Before Oatpaw could respond - if she even wanted to - Heavy flattened her ears, a warning growl rumbling in her throat. "She came to YewClan willingly. Leave her alone. She's made her decision, she doesn't need you pestering her." The ginger tabby returned her growl, claws unsheathing. Heavy readied herself; the last thing she wanted was a fight, but if the ginger tabby wanted to throw claws, then she would meet them with her own.
Fortunately the brown tabby tom stepped forward, placing his tail along the ginger tabby's spine. "Stand down, Tansyclaw. She's right, if Oatpaw wants to come home, then she will on her own accord."
"We can't just let YewClan take her!" The orange tabby bristled at their patrolmate, shocked to hear this.
The brown tabby shook his head, the brown tabby molly taking a step closer as if to break the tension if needed. "We don't want a fight." Reiterating this the brown tabby turned to Heavy, dipping his head diplomatically. "We aren't here for a fight. If you'll treat Oatpaw kindly, then she may make her choice on where she wants to stay."
Heavy dipped her head to the brown tabby.
The ginger feline snorted. Talked down by their Clanmates, the ginger tabby finally deflated their aggressive stance and turned, throwing a sharp retort over their shoulder as they began walking away, "Don't come whining back to us when YewClan doesn't work out!" With that the BurdockClan patrol vanished into the depths of their territory, leaving Heavy, Cinderdapple, Hayfeather, and Thrushfleck with a trembling, scared apprentice among their midsts.

Cinderdapple BurdockClan Border | w/ Heavy, Hayfeather, Thrushfleck, & Oatpaw Feathertalon , whispering grimmreminder Oatpaw's arrival, Cinderdapple thinks Bubblingstar is thoughtful, has a bit of a headache
Cinderdapple always looked forward to patrols, it was always exciting to have new experiences. Even if nothing eventful happened, it was nice just to get out of camp. She wasn't the kind of cat who could sit in one place for very long without growing restless. Today would have been an exception though. The beginnings of what she worried would become a serious headache started to make Cinderdapple feel tension behind her eyes. Perhaps it was the changing seasons, it seemed that whenever the next leaf was turning she got some sort of ailment. A small headache was no reason to miss out on a patrol though, so Cinderdapple accompanied the rest of her Clanmates after Dappleswipe's usual morning duty.
Heavy was leading today, and Cinderdapple wondered when she could start leading patrols. She was rather confident in her abilities, and it was difficult to have patience waiting for things like being a mentor or leader of some kind to her peers. It didn't help though that YewClan has only had one litter of kits every few seasons it seemed, and she had a feeling that it would be several more before another litter appeared. Maybe a litter from Shadepatch and Thrushfleck? There were no other mated pairs after all. Then again, not having a YewClan mate didn't stop Bubblingstar.
Speaking of new cats... Cinderdapple also scented an intruder when Heavy halted in her tracks. Her gray and white fur bristled, teeth bared, and green eyes shifted as she tried to identify where and who they could be. Whoever they are, they'll be sorry to have tested the likes of a YewClan patrol. Cinderdapple followed closely behind Heavy to stay out of the orange molly's way but still be close enough to jump into the fray. Her aggressive stance gave way to a slightly more relaxed one at seeing a sniveling, frightened BurdockClan apprentice. Something about this felt like a trap. It was difficult for the molly to convince herself that this apprentice came to an enemy Clan for help, this had to be some sort of ambush. Her coat fluffed up again as she braced herself for more BurdockClan cats to come tumbling into YewClan's territory. "What in StarClan's name-" Cinderdapple exclaimed, but was cut off when more of BurdockClan arrived...demanding their apprentice return?
Cinderdapple turned her head between the apprentice and the new warriors inquisitively."Help me...?"Did she hear the apprentice correctly? Perhaps she had assumed the worst. Whatever the case, while she was still extremely wary of the situation, Cinderdapple would defend Heavy no matter her decision. Cinderdapple hissed at the 2 strange cats as they faced the YewClan patrol, and stood shoulder to shoulder with Heavy, hackles raised and lips pulled back in a snarl.
As the tensions were easing though, she stood straight, smoothing out her shoulder fur. Cinderdapple did not care to start a fight, but she didn't care for any of this. Her tail lashed back and forth with some hostility in case BurdockClan thought twice about their decision to let Oatpaw go. She'd be sure to finish whatever fight they start.
When the enemy patrol had moved along, Cinderdapple could not hide the confusion in her face from their patrol leader, tilting her owl-masked head to the side with narrowed eyes. Taking in another clan's apprentice seemed like a terrible idea. It was another mouth to feed, and who was to say that BurdockClan wouldn't have a change of heart and attack YewClan camp over this apprentice who they knew nothing about. Maybe Oatpaw did something that did deserve being scared of her home clan. She knew better than to voice such dividing opinions though in the moment, most especially in front of Oatpaw. Cinderdapple couldn't help but glare at the apprentice a little when he gaze shifted between her and Heavy. She had a feeling Oatpaw would be accepted into YewClan no matter what though, Bubblingstar was a very sympathetic cat, she knew that the gray and orange molly would find refuge here.
[OOC: sorry if this one's a little rough and all over the place, i'm v mentally checked out haha]

HAZELPELT - Hunting with Whorlpaw & Mistleheart! Whorlpaw had a lot to learn, something Hazelpelt felt was only amplified by his status as Bubblingstar's son. Mistleheart was a good, kind cat, and she hoped the warrior's influence would help teach her apprentice by example. She tried her best but... Hazelpelt knew there had been change in her, and not for the better. " Whorlpaw," She chided the apprentice's muttering, hiding her surprise at Mistleheart's sudden rage, " the Warrior code was made to help us. Without warriors like Mistleheart, there would be a lot of chaos in the clans." While she was glad for Mistleheart's experience, Hazelpelt felt a little conflicted as the other molly took charge. She knew it was her first apprentice but was she really doing that badly? Maybe Bubblingstar would've been better off giving his son to a senior warrior. Stars knew Heavy was long overdue for the honor. Try as she might, she couldn't shake the thoughts throughout the rest of the hunt. Distantly watching as Whorlpaw brought down a mouse under Mistleheart's keen eye.

Dappleswipe
Assigns cats to border patrols Border patrol with Mistleheart and Heavy (LAST MOON) Dappleswipe had a sense of urgency as she grouped cats to carry out the day’s patrols. A silent, still morning turned the camp into a foreboding winter wonderland. Her steady voice was the only thing that carried along the frosted clearing. The deputy had already planned to lead a border patrol in pursuit of a hazardous dog in the forest. With a breath she turned towards the medicine den. This was the third time Bubblingstar was in the medicine den from a bite, and now Frozenlaurel joined him. StarClan, please, don't take any more lives from us. Guide our safety. It was imperative that Dappleswipe found compatible members to aid her in defense. The deputy paced around until her copper eyes settled on a calico and a snow-white molly. She approached the two with an authoritative note in her tone. “Mistleheart, Heavy, I’d like you both to come with me. I’m sure you’ve heard about the dog that injured Frozenlaurel and Bubblingstar. We need to scout the borders to make sure it left for good.”... “I don't have many details about this dog, but I know that it was large. And brown…,” Dappleswipe’s claws slipped out as her pawsteps trembled along a dimpled, sacred trail. It eased her to know that many YewClan warriors have scouted confidently here for moons, but the threat was too close for comfort. Despite her anxieties increasing, vengeful stamina moved Dappleswipe forward. The only way she would rest is by raking her claws against that dog’s pelt until it was stained scarlet. After a long, deafening silence, suddenly Mistleheart spoke. Dappleswipe halted as she nearly choked on the canine scent that wreathed around her. Fear bristled up her spine as barks invaded the edge of her hearing. ”The dog is running in circles! I’m not sure where it will go!”It took a moment for Dappleswipe to compose herself, sniffing around every corner before formalizing an answer. “You're right, Mistleheart. I can't tell which direction it came from either. It obviously has no respect for our borders, that's for certain. I say we patrol this area extra carefully for the time being. Larger patrols will need to be prepared to fight and chase off this dog.” For the first time, the deputy’s voice shook as she gave a final piece of advice. “No cat must travel out in the forest alone.”With that, the patrol turned away, retreating their steps to the warmth of camp.
Hunting patrol with Drizzlemimic
Today's hunt provided a stark difference from last moon's tense patrol. The forest was finally starting to rise from its seasonal slumber- critters were scurrying; trees were budding. Thawing was late this new-leaf, which placed the forest in a paradoxical relationship between white and green. The calmer atmosphere was quite welcome too, and it seemed as though the terrible dog was but a fading memory. But Dappleswipe always needed to be alert. Attempting to get more insight, the deputy brought young warrior Drizzlemimic, who was impressively unscathed by the beast. A bit of comfort from the deputy might be just what he needed while Frozenlaurel and Bubblingstar were recovering. After all, he was Stemriver's kin. Naturally Drizzlemimic appeared a bit skittish since the attack, so Dappleswipe monitored him carefully on the hunting grounds. It crushed her to see a cat so frightened about a danger she wasn't able to stop. At least she had control over revealing what happened on the patrol. “Well, yes. ", she responded, tongue flicking to taste the air. "I did lead a patrol with Heavy and Mistleheart, but our results came up… inconclusive at best.” A concerning answer, but an honest one. Dappleswipe wasn't prepared to lie about her findings to a clanmate. Once she got a better reading of the territory, she continued. “No worries, I specifically chose this place because it's far from where we three went last moon. I can't detect a whiff of dog scent here!”
Her exclamation was replaced by a wave of empathy for the tom. "So, Drizzlemimic. How are you holding up? You can open up to me if you wish."

Drizzlemimic- Hunting with Dappleswipe Drizzlemimic listened to the to the deputy explain about the dog. While he was concerned that the dog might have not completely left their territory, he was at least relieved that they were far away from its potential location. He was also thankful for the honest answer from Dappleswipe. Drizzlemimic being able to trust his clan mates was more important than him having the impression that the dog left, especially if they weren’t sure it did. “It’s been going better recently. For a while after the attack I had plenty of nightmares. But after Frozenlaurel comforted me, they have largely stopped.” He tried to remember the specifics of them. “In all of them, I was in an unfamiliar forest, and I was being chased by the dog, until it caught up to me, and I always wake up after that part.” That’s how all the nightmares up until recently have panned out. But Drizzlemimic remembered the most recent one. The only one that had happened after his talk with Frozenlaurel. “Except, in my last one, instead of being caught, I turned around and faced the dog. I was about to fight it when the dream ended.”. “For a while I also was scared that it was my fault that Frozenlaurel and Bubblingstar got hurt. I’ve realised that I did the right thing by calling for help, as I couldn’t have taken it down alone. I just hope nobody else in the clan blames me for it…”. While Frozenlaurel helped him feel way better than he did before, the grey tabby was there for the incident, and Drizzlemimic wasn’t sure what other cats thought about the ordeal. Especially since Drizzlemimic got away unscathed, he was worried that, maybe, some of the cats he’s not so close to secretly blame him. “Though, I’ve been much less distracted recently, so I can hunt without problem.” As if to prove his point, a rustle sounded in the snow. Drizzlemimic quickly pounced and caught a mouse. He quickly came back up to show his catch to Dappleswipe. Drizzlemimic- Talking with Whorlpaw Drizzlemimic was spending a relaxing afternoon in the camp, grooming himself. He had been feeling much better since being encouraged by Frozenlaurel and Dappleswipe. The two cats made him feel more comfortable, and he’s practically forgotten about the dog attack. Whorlpaw walked up to him and started chatting with him. Drizzlemimic was quite fond of the young apprentice. He reminded him a lot of himself in his apprenticeship, still eager and excited. “Great catch, Whorlpaw! Soon you’ll be just as great of a hunter as your father.” The apprentice was the son of Bubblingstar. While being the kit of the leader surely set some high expectations, Drizzlemimic wanted to make sure Whorlpaw received encouragement. He was doing well for an apprentice his age, and while there was no doubt he still had a lot to learn, it will all come in due time. “And as good of a fighter as Bubblingstar. He helped Frozenlaurel save me from a dog. They’re both fiercely brave and strong. I hope they make a quick recovery.”. The young warrior took a quick peak into the medicine den. He was sure Stormmask and Shadepatch would do their job excellently. “How’s training going? Are you getting along with your mentor?” Tagging lazzylake Sapphirejas OOC: (Don’t worry Lazz, you did great!)

Spottedfur : complaining about the weather - with Hazelpelt "Y'know, when I was younger, we never had a thaw this late, Hazelpelt," Spottedfur complained as he stretched his front limbs in front of him. He let out a grumble as his old burn wound on his back right paw stung. He knew he'd need to visit the medicine cat's den for the "strengthening herbs" soon, but not yet. He needed someone to complain to and he had chosen Hazelpelt. "Maybe we had one or two, but they weren't this bad."
Poor Hazelpelt, little did she know what the silver speckled tom had planned for the two. A lot of complaining, that's what.
"I can't stand late thaws! snow covers the forest floor for moons and it never gets any warmer! It's like we constantly live in leafbare," Spottedfur whined, like the grumpy elder he was. He rested his head on his aching paws. "How can any cat like this weather? I'm tired of feeling cold in my nest and my joints won't stop aching. Just walking to the fresh kill pile hurts."

Stormmask : plantain scouting - alone + happy about Thrushfleck in the medicine cat's den Now that early spring had arrived, a late thaw had followed which was concerning for Stormmask. Normally by now, most herbs would've thawed enough yet this season it hadn't. She was thankful to StarClan that YewClan had avoided serious cases of greencough. It seemed like their ancestors were looking out for them.
As Stormmask trotted through the mixed forest, she kept her eyes peeled and her nose raised to the air. She needed to find out where plantain would spring this season. The grey tabby she-cat came to a stop near several beech trees, remembering that it was a common place to find plantain. However, the snow still covered the paths before her dark paws. Stormmask hurried off onto another trail, only to find more snow dusting the forest floor. This is useless, she thought to herself. There isn't a single place in the forest that's promising for the plantain.
The medicine cat let out a sigh of frustration. At least Thrushfleck's presence in the medicine cat den had made things happier lately. She prayed that Shadepatch would have more success at herb scouting than her.

NEW CATS PEEPS!!! I also FINALLY get to gush about getting FOUR torties, including a male tortie AND a male heterochromatic tortie that, with his half-and-half coloring, would probably be a chimera cat!!! I have never gotten a chimera in Clangen before, let alone a MALE with heterochromia this guy is really special. It only could have better if he was wildcard but alas, he is tabby/tabby and Black/cream which, I don't think Clangen counts dilution in their tortie checks so I think that's natural gen and not wildcard status.
but in the real life, this dude is 100% chimera cat and I love him so much for that. <3
I'm going to go through and do some activity checks in the next hour or so. Some of the newer peeps will also get extra cat slots this moon to claim some of these new kits!
(also I'm probably going to put them on the front page NEXT moon (or close to it) so I don't have to edit twice for the beaned version of the kits + secondary trait they'll get next moon (and so I can edit all the claims at one time) (sorry not sorry). I added all the current details to their event tab in the moon update above, so you know what you're getting if you claim one. ]]

I don’t know what the odds are in game, but in real life, the chance of a male tortie happening in roughly 1 in 3000, meaning that having 2 would be 1 in 9000000. StarClan truly has blessed us lol!

trueeeee. Clangen peeps say the odds are 1/180 which feels low but. idk, if the right genetics are there, those odds could be altered a lot. Clangen inheritance is... weird. speaking of! Activity check stuff! no old cats are up for grabs. (all cats not crossed out are still open) cats available to claim: Oatpaw, Hopbramble, Amberkit, Stonekit, Icekit, Whisperingkit, Maplekit we're gonna do this in groups: anyone in the first pick list has ~26hrs to get their top pick. People in the second pick list can pick up any cats that remain. Cool? cool. if yall want to discuss which kit you might be interested in, or maybe make top 3 lists and compare so everyone is happiest with their picks, you can open that discussion on the discussion thread. also I'm gonna make a quick thread for claim forms so I don't have to chase down forms when editing the front page :grumpy: PUT YA FORMS HEREFIRST PICK LIST: stormshade1 grimmreminder lemonshortbread chocolatemilk7 lazzylake SECOND PICK LIST aka People who still have third slots Feathertalon Sand jaybun! also Dew if you want to jump straight back into it with three cats also me

[question, since the father of the kittens is never stated, am i allowed to make up his identity and whatnot or would you prefer i limit the details as much as possible since he's an unknown? cuz I've got ideas for Hopbramble lore Brownie]

If anyone would know the father, it would be her. It's your call on how much of her backstory you want to reveal and how you want to go about doing it (; ]]

Heavy »
odd dream with stormmask - Sand
StarClan. An all-knowing group of star-clad warriors, originating from the dead of YewClan and the three other Clans that surrounded their forest. They were spoken of as if they were kind, honorable warriors, and surely they were if they were the spirits of those who had passed on. Surely they were gentle spirits that only wanted to guide the paws of the living.
Heavy had a lot of thoughts on that. A lot of thoughts that her Clanmates wouldn't agree on.
And yet... Just last night the calico had stepped into a world of stars and mist, an odd forest that glittered with moonlight, an odd forest where the mist whispered to her and called out her name. She had sworn that she had heard the voices of both Stemriver and Brightleaf calling out to her, the voices of her former mate and daughter tones she had not heard in moons but would never forget.
Hope had filled the calico as she raced through the woods, eager to see Stemriver again, excited to share tongues with Brightleaf once more. Further and further into the mist she had ran, yet no matter how far she had traveled, she had never once spotted the familiar gray of Stemriver or the comforting ginger of Brightleaf. Disappointment had swamped her, dragging at her paws, making it impossible to go any further.
She woke up exhausted and confused.
StarClan.
If they existed, why couldn't they let her have a moment of happiness?
Removing herself from her nest had been hard. Heavy stared down at the soft moss a moment too long, yearning to slide back inside and hope for a restful nap, but she knew her warrior duties needed to be tended to. Her muscles ached and her head was full of thistledown, but she needed to pull her weight. Cats relied on her. Her Clan relied on her. Luckily she knew she was not assigned to any imminent patrols, and with the freedom to decide what she wanted to do today, her paws lead her to the medicine cat den. Not only did she thoroughly enjoy spending time with the Clan's healers, but assisting Stormmask and Shadepatch would be easy on Heavy's weary mind and reluctant muscles. Stealth and strength were not required for sorting through dried leaves or gathering herbs. And a part of her wondered if she could ask Stormmask about the dream she had had last night. Surely Stormmask, as the Clan's eldest healer, would have some insight on the whole ordeal.
As she neared the mouth of the den, she noticed Shadepatch walking out; the calico dipped her head in a warm greeting as the tortoiseshell padded past, Heavy moving out of the younger molly's way. Heavy couldn't help but wonder where her son's mate was off to, but she dismissed those wonderings as she stepped inside the medicine cat den. Sweet and bitter herb scents flooded her senses, reminding Heavy of her first few seasons in YewClan.
Through the dim light of the den Heavy could just make out Stormmask, the gray tabby appearing to be sorting through her store of herbs. "Stormmask, it's me, Heavy. I was wondering if you needed help today." After a moment, she added, "And I was wondering if you could help me, in return."

training session with foxpaw - Dew dappleswipe - lazzylake & wants to explore territory with mistleheart
It wasn't every day that Dappleswipe came to Slatefoot asking if she could join a training session. Usually it was the other way around, with Slatefoot going up to the deputy and asking is she could hang out with the tortoiseshell and any other cat that was already scheduled to be on patrol with Dappleswipe. A large part of Slatefoot felt proud that the deputy wanted to oversee Slatefoot's skills as a mentor. With more apprentices than usual Dappleswipe had a wide assortment of mentor and apprentice pairs that she could have picked from, yet she had picked Slatefoot and Foxpaw. To say Slatefoot was honored was an understatement; this had to mean something. Had to mean that out of all the pairs the deputy could have chosen, she decided that Slatefoot would be the best option.
Slatefoot wasn't going to let her down.
Despite the fact that Slatefoot was thrilled at Dappleswipe's interest in her and Foxpaw, there was a smidge of disappointment as well, especially as she left the camp with the two other mollies and noticed the scent of another Clanmate, recent and fresh.
Mistleheart. Her best friend, the cat she trusted the most, the cat who made her heart swell anytime she thought of her.
Their paths did not cross today, the two of them being selected for different duties today. The small part of Slatefoot wished she could replace Dappleswipe with Mistleheart, but logically she knew nothing would get done in the way of Foxpaw's training if she had Mistleheart at her side; all she wanted to do was brush up against the mostly white molly and explore the entire territory with her. She thought back to how a few moons ago, when snow still blanketed the forest, the two of them had galloped off into the territory, laughing and carrying on as if they were still kits. She wanted to do something like that again, wanted to let go of all her responsibilities and just be with Mistleheart.
Slatefoot let out a silent sigh, a large breath of air expelling from her somewhat opened mouth. Perhaps soon she'd get another chance to spend time with Mistleheart.
As hard as it was, Slatefoot pushed away all thoughts of Mistleheart as she continued through the forest, aware that she was still with Foxpaw and Dappleswipe - two cats she needed to make good impressions for. Their destination was right around a few trees. If training was to be a success today, Slatefoot needed to concentrate on training and training alone.

Drizzlemimic- Hunting with Cinderdapple I should have ate something last night, Drizzlemimic thought to himself as he grumpily followed his sister. He was so caught up with the arrival of the new queen and kits that he completely forgot to take something out of the fresh kill pile that evening. When he woke up, there was no time to grab anything, as he was instructed to go hunting with Cinderdapple. Drizzlemimic sighed. How was he supposed to hunt when he was starving? Catching anything on an empty stomach was impossible! Suddenly, the white and grey tom heard rustling from the bushes. A mouse quickly rushed out and practically fell into Drizzlemimic’s paws. All he had to to is one swift claw swipe and it fell. That was… strangely easy? I guess that’s why they call it “mouse brained”. A thought came to Drizzlemimic’s mind. One that, honestly, he should have ignored. No, Mistleheart taught him better than to break the Warrior Code! But… he was so hungry… and if he could replenish his energy… he could catch so much more! One mouse wouldn’t be enough to feed anyone anyways, and it’s not like he could catch anything like this. With a mixture of hesitation, regret and hunger, he bit into the mouse and started devouring it. It was the best tasting piece of prey he had ever ate. But he couldn’t focus on that right now, he had a duty to his clan to actually bring something back. He was gonna feed at least one hungry clan member, if it was the last thing he did! Unfortunately, it seemed that hungry clan member was himself, as no matter how hard he tried, how much he sniffed around every bush, how much he listened for the slightest rustle, there was nothing. It’s like all the prey perished all at once! With a heavy heart and shame in his eyes, he returned to Cinderdapple, to see if, maybe, she caught something, and this hunting session wasn’t a complete waste of time. But alas, she was empty pawed too… Now he had to face his sister, and his own shame. Tagging lemonshortbread

"I'll be back little ones, stay put." The dark tabby glanced back at the little scraps of fur she had tucked away in an old badger set. They were hardly big enough to do more than mew for food and wiggle around one another for warmth. It was her own fault for getting caught up with Saffron and his group during leaf-bare. She should have known better, maybe she would still have been just looking out for herself in this late new-leaf instead of having the weight of not one or two or even three, but five kits' survival depending on Hop. Hop the loner. Hop the loner who was very much not alone anymore. She was losing weight fast, faster than she had ever felt herself grow thin before and it was terrifying, Hop didn't want to die out here like this, she needed food fast and so did her kits. It had been days since her last meal, and while the idea of leaving her kits by themselves was anxiety inducing, no one would survive if she didn't eat.
Her belly grumbled violently as she padded quietly over the forest floor. Her stiff joints and muscles were slowly stretching and relaxing with each step but the cold seemed to prick her under-pelt. She hardly seemed to notice when she would step in patches of thawing snow and slush, all of Hop's senses were focused on trying to detect any prey nearby. Her pink nose most certainly picked up the scent markings of other cats but she would be quick, she was always quick, Hop and the kits would be long gone before they even noticed her scent.
swish, swish
Hop froze at the sound. She parted her jaws to take in the scent of whatever was moving the dead foliage around - Rabbit! Her mouth was already watering. She can't miss this, if she hangs around here any longer who knows who she'll run into. Hop crouched low to the ground, eyes focused on the distracted rabbit as it ate. In her hurry though, she didn't notice a patch of frozen grass under paw, crack! Hop's eyes went wide with horror as the rabbit froze Fox-dung! she hissed to herself, and the chase began. Hop sprinted with all of her might after the creature, it didn't matter how much noise she was making, the undergrowth that snagged at her fur, she couldn't lose this! She could feel how weak she's grown as her body forced her to not get closer than a mouse-length behind the fluffy white tail of her prey, but she wouldn't give up. Hop braced herself for the bush they were about to collide into but didn't falter for a moment, forepaws outstretched to tunnel her way through the bush, making a racket with the snapping and shaking branches their chase caused.
But then it was over. The rabbit was caught, and not by Hop. The dark molly was staring at 2 strange cats, one white with gray patches who had her kill and another scarred gray tabby. They didn't seem hostile though, more surprised. Maybe she could talk her way out of it and still get her rabbit, or at least, live to hunt another day. She's scared off all of the prey in this part of the forest at this point. Hop quickly sat up, laying her tail across her paws, and drew one dark forepaw over her ear in an effort to appear calm. "Great timing!" She complimented the white and gray cat. She hoped sitting up would draw attention to her nursing belly, maybe they'd have some sympathy and hand over the rabbit. Hop looked disheveled and ragged enough as it was, covered in brambles from the chase. "My name's Hop. I'm just passing through and saw the rabbit, sorry for disturbing y'all, I'll just take that and get out of your fur." She blinked slowly and let out a small chuckle, gesturing to the kill at the other she-cat's paws. They certainly looked more well-fed than she, it would be cruel of them to keep it.
