I mean, you're going to improve over five years of any hobby, if you're doing it regularly. That's very normal, especially if you're young/just starting. It's healthy to think of previous works not as bad, but as stepping stones to your current skillset: you can't make a masterpiece without first fumbling a dozen or more drafts.
I sucked at writing in high school, but it was very important that I wrote what I did. If I didn't make mistakes then and learn from them, I would have never improved past that phase. I also think that, past a certain threshold of "good enough", where you are proficient at both prose and craft, your style will just. Naturally change as you take on new projects and new experiences. That's also very normal.
I went through an awful phase of writing in first person present with really edgy narrators. The writing wasn't bad, it was good for its target audience of YA, but I still cringe when reading it. I probably wouldn't be able to write in that style now as well as I did then, because I had a lot of practice then and I don't typically write in that way anymore. But it was important that I did write all that, because I needed to learn from it.

I think I’ve been writing on and off for 15+ years now. I don’t have any copies of my oldest writing anymore though. It’s just weird thinking that what I wrote five years ago, which I thought was good at the time, isn’t up to my standards anymore. But I also think it’s the fandom I’m writing for, which has less room for things, because I found something from another fandom that I wrote a couple of years back, and it was surprisingly good. But it could also be that I wrote the latter story for myself, so I didn’t put as much pressure on myself when I wrote it, whereas the other I knew I was going to share it online. It’s just so weird to me how these things work out with time

Hi everyone! My name's Cherry and I'm mostly a fanfiction writer. My last project was called Ravenstar's Fire, it is a fanmade Super Edition set in (possibly an alternate) canon about 100 years after AVOS. Its current draft is finished at 80,000 words, but I'm planning on adding more to it in a future update. I mostly write and publish on Deviantart, but I also have been on AO3 to post Ravenstar's Fire. Back when I was 14 in 2014, I had a FNAF Foxy x Reader series that got REALLY popular. Like I still get comments asking me to write more for it. Looking at it now it is INCREDIBLY cringy and I've been considering rewriting it. I think the first part of the series got like 657 favorites last time I looked. My most recent achievement is my Michael Afton x Reader became a Daily Deviation on Deviantart and got over 286,000 views because of that! (Not many favorites or comments bc FNAF fanfictions aren't as popular anymore haha, but that's okay, the views are worth it because that many people got to read my work.) If anyone is interested, my username on Deviantart is Vincebae I post a lot of Warrior Cats artwork there too. Gosh I wish I had enough time to do NaNoWriMo, I totally forgot that was this month omg. I still might give it a try and see how far I get, but I don't have a lot of writing time anymore.
