Welcome to DarkClan, young warrior. You on your journey have stumbled upon a Clan of greatness. We are unlike any other Clan, for we do not practice the normal methods of Clan living. No, we live in a way that, in our eyes, is much more advantageous and proper. We follow the moral ideology known as egoism. We believe that a cat is morally obligated to do what benefits themselves and only themselves; they are more important than any other cat. If a cat cannot care for themselves, then they do not deserve to be called a DarkClan cat. Many look down on us because of this. We are called many things, most frequently cold-hearted and merciless. However, this is simply our way of life. One does not have to like it; they simply must tolerate it. We promote a healthy level of self-confidence and survival ability in our warriors, and believe that those two things are the keys to survival here in the desert. While we as individuals stand alone, we as a group stand together to defend our shared values and moral beliefs. So what will it be, [name]? Will you join us and create for yourself a truly noble image, or will you turn your back on a golden opportunity?

1. Follow all the forum rules. This includes not harassing users based on anything, whether it be in-RP decisions, likes/dislikes, habits, culture, race, age, gender, sexuality, background, etc. If you break a forum rule, you will be warned depending on the severity and always reported. 2. If a user breaks either a forum rule or one of our rules, do NOT respond to them or quote them in any way. You could very well get us deleted. Also, do NOT try and discipline them. You'll only end up angering the rulebreaker and starting a fight. Let the RP staff handle it. 3. Do not challenge the decisions of the RP staff. We are the ones who worked hours on end to make this roleplay; our moderators were chosen based on obvious signs of maturity and responsibility. Obviously, if a decision breaks a rule, let another staff member know, but otherwise don't throw a fit. If we suspend you, learn your lesson and deal with it. If we say a flash flood is going to happen, don't be all like "what the hell man I was doing something". We're not going to take the time to ask every single person if they're cool with a natural disaster. Does Mother Nature ask you permission before making a tornado? No. So don't expect that from us. We WILL warn you, but we will NOT ask for your permission. 4. No god-modding, power-playing, spot-lighting, or meta-gaming. You will be warned twice for this, then suspended from the RP. If you don't know what these terms mean, please ask. Also, as this is a semi-advanced roleplay, we expect 4-6 lines of roleplay per post, with few exceptions. 5. You, as a regular member, do NOT have the ability to summon natural disasters, predators, prophecies, and other major events whenever the heck you want. You cannot just say "Redtail suddenly saw a flash flood!". No. Absolutely not. If you want something like that to happen, ask an RP staff member permission first. No random fights with gila monsters or enemy Clan cats. No random sandstorms or monsoons. No random prophecies or omens. 6. You must make at least two roleplay posts here every three days to remain on the "active" list. If you fail to do this without giving us a reasonable excuse beforehand, you will be put on the "inactive" list. If you don't return within 72 hours, you will be removed for inactivity. Your characters will be stored for one week. If you don't return by then, you'll have to start all over again. If we have to remove you for inactivity three times, we reserve the right to refuse you the fourth. We are VERY strict about activity; understand that we need to be in order for these Clans to be healthy. And no, "I was busy" or "I didn't feel like it" are not acceptable excuses for not showing to claim your cats for over a week. If either of those are the case, then please do everyone a favor and pull out of the roleplay. 7. If a battle is happening, your cat is not invincible. We personally recommend using a random number generator to determine your cat's success; if you get an even, your cat dodges successfully. If you get an odd, your cat is injured. During a fight, your cat should NOT dodge more than three times without taking a hit. We will suspend people for this if necessary. Also, your cat may not kill or cripple another's without that cat's owner's permission and the approval of an RP staff member. 8. This is a desert roleplay. As such, we ask that all character names be desert-related. Desert cats do not know what oaks, thrushes, and minnows are. If you're unsure, either ask or look it up. Also, please respect the desert environment when roleplaying. It's hot. It's dry. It's sandy. There's not a lot of water or shade. Remember that. 9. Respect the morals of the Clan your cat is in. If your cat is in DarkClan, don't have them constantly going around protesting the selfish, arrogant ways of their cats. If they're in SolaceClan, don't constantly have them going around ignoring cats in need and being selfish, and so on. If your cat is in a Clan whose morals promote intelligence above all else, act like it. If your cat's Clan promotes the state above all else, act like it. If the staff want a cat who truly despises their Clan's ways, we'll approve someone to make such a character. Otherwise, don't do it. You can make a deep, well-rounded cat while still staying true to your Clan's morals. 10. Respect the universal RP time. It can't be night in one Clan and dawn in another, just as it can't be one month in one Clan and a different month in another. Don't try and change the time as a regular member; you'll simply be ignored and possibly suspended. 11. You may have as many characters as you want. However, you must use them ALL. Just because one cat has a more interesting storyline than the others doesn't mean you can use them and not the others. If we see you're not using a character, we'll warn you once, and then delete said character. Also, for every tom you make you must make a she-cat, just to keep the gender ratio as even as possible. 12. We allow "will ___ come back to ___" posts, but other than that do NOT advertise anything in this RP. 13. Your cat may NOT challenge the decision of the Choosers. If we want such a rebellious act to occur, we will give someone permission to do so. Otherwise, don't do it. It creates unnecessary problems and disrupts the storyline. 14. If you are a Forum Moderator, you do not automatically have the ability to control this RP by creating prophecies, making natural disasters, breaking RP rules, etc. No where in the rules does it say that Forum Moderators have control over the events in-RP of the RP they join. If any abuse occurs, we will notify ToMo and Roswell. 15. We do have permission from the forum staff to have kits die, whether it be through snake/scorpion poisoning, in a flash flood, etc. However, we ask that you keep any snake/scorpion bitings/stingings and their effects under a spoiler tag when it deals with kits. Failure to do so will result in you being warned once, then suspended from the roleplay. As with all other deaths, you must have permission from the RP staff before killing your kit. No spontaneous deaths.

DarkClan, like the other three Clans in this roleplay, live in a desert. The climate is very arid, with there being few clouds and very little rainfall. The air temperature during the day averages 110-115 degrees Fahrenheit, while the sand temperature averages 160-175 degrees Fahrenheit. These extreme temperatures make it so the cats of the Clans cannot safely set paw outside during the day, making them nocturnal creatures not by nature, but by force. Summer temperatures at night average 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit, while temperatures at night can reach sub-freezing levels. This makes it so DarkClan cats can safely venture out at night.
The territory itself is very barren. Plants dot the landscape here and there. A part of the oasis that hosts the Gathering area belongs to DarkClan, and is accessible during the day via a large tunnel that extends from the camp to the oasis. The SolaceClan/DarkClan border is marked by a gully that extends from a few tail-lengths away from the oasis all the way beyond the edge of Clan territory. The gully is quite deep, meaning the only safe way across is to go around. The DarkClan/OwlClan border is marked by three markers; a cluster of desert plants, a large chunk of sandstone, and a small pool fed by the oasis. The area in between is marked by scent markers to distinguish the border.
While the territory is mostly flat, there are some sand dunes here and there. They range from small to large, and pose a significant threat during sandstorms. They do, however, make good vantage points. DarkClan's camp is entirely underground due to the aboveground being uninhabitable during the day. The different parts of the camp are connected by a vast system of tunnels; each cat generally helps with the upkeep of the tunnels as the tunnels are necessary for each individual's survival.
Leader's Burrow: The leader of DarkClan sleeps in the largest of the burrows, mainly due in part to their inflated sense of importance. The tunnel entrance is to the left of the camp entrance; the tunnel descends for a while before opening into a pitch black burrow of great size. The burrow is about ten tail-lengths long and eight wide, making it so the leader has a great deal of room. Generally, the DarkClan leader will spend most of their time in their burrow, simply because they feel that they have no business with the lower-ranking individuals in the Clan. The burrow even has its own short branch-off tunnel, which leads into a small burrow used to store herbs and fresh-kill for the leader.
Deputy's Burrow: Much like the leader, the deputy has their own burrow due to their sense of superiority in comparison to their Clanmates. The burrow can be accessed via a tunnel that begins in the warrior's den; the tunnel spirals downward, eventually landing a cat in a burrow deep beneath the warrior's burrow. The burrow itself is very small; any normal-sized cat would find it pressing to turn around without having to squeeze. The burrow is, however, deep underground, making it desirable due to its cool temperature.
Warrior's Burrow: The entrance to the warrior's burrow is directly across from the entrance to the camp. It is about twice the size of the leader's den, making it large enough to accommodate DarkClan's warriors comfortably. As part of a new warrior's rite of passage, they must fight the "chosen warrior". The chosen warrior is the warrior who gets to sleep in a burrow separate from the warrior's burrow. It is in between the warrior and deputy burrows, and is accessed by jumping straight into it from the center of the warrior's burrow. If the new warrior defeats the chosen warrior in battle, they will be allowed to sleep with the other warriors. If they lose the fight, then they must sleep with the apprentices for three nights before being allowed to move in with the warriors. When the chosen warrior dies, the first cat to stake and defend their claim in the chosen warrior's burrow for three days without interruption becomes the new chosen warrior.
Apprentice's Burrow: Located directly beside the warrior's burrow, the apprentice's burrow is unique in that it was made into different levels. A new apprentice starts on the highest level, which is the warmest in temperature. If they wish to move down a level, they must choose an apprentice from the next level down to fight. If they win the fight, then they move down a level. If they lose, they stay where they are. There are five levels in total. Each level is about a quarter of the leader's burrow in size.
Nursing Burrow: With an entrance located to the left of the warrior's burrow, the nursing burrow is where pregnant queens and those with kits yet to be weaned stay. As soon as a kit is weaned, their mother will move back into the warrior's burrow, whereas the kit will stay in the nursing burrow until their Choosing Ceremony. The den is small enough to be cozy, but not to the point of discomfort. It is about half the size of the leader's burrow.
Main Burrow: The burrow in which a cat enters when they first enter the camp, the main burrow is where most of the socializing in DarkClan takes place. It is about three times the size of the warrior's burrow, making it quite massive. It contains the entrances to most of the burrows mentioned above. Sometimes, a cat will be ostracized by their burrowmates for something they have done (such as losing an easy battle or going against the Clan's morals). If that happens, they may be forced to sleep in the main burrow by their burrowmates for a set period of time, usually two or three days.
Meeting Burrow: The entrance to the meeting burrow is to a cat's right when they enter the camp. When the leader or deputy has an announcement to make, they will travel to the meeting burrow to do it. The back of the burrow is raised, allowing the leader or deputy to stand above the rest of the Clan. A large stone sits outside the meeting burrow entrance. When the gray side is showing, there is no meeting. When the brown side is showing, a meeting is in progress.
Oasis Tunnel: Directly next to the leader's burrow sits the oasis tunnel. It is a very long tunnel that leads to DarkClan's portion of the oasis, allowing cats to travel there during the daytime. A small hole in the ceiling allows water to trickle through into a small pool at the end of the tunnel. In order to get to the Gathering Rock, where full moon Gatherings take place, DarkClan must still travel aboveground.

While in-RP cats are expected to follow DarkClan's laws to a tee, for drama purposes you are allowed to break them... occasionally. While everyone appreciates some good drama, moderation is key. And don't forget to check with an RP staff member before doing anything major
1. One must act first in the interest of themselves; never do anything that doesn't promote your own safety and well-being above others. 2. Do not help anyone. Every cat is capable of caring for themselves. Any cat that is not is worthless. 3. Gatherings are sacred. Respect the full moon truce and uphold your Clan's values no matter what. 4. Confront any non-DarkClan cat you see threatening DarkClan's borders. 5. Scorn the non-DarkClan life. Any life outside of egoism is a worthless one. 6. The Gila Monster is the sacred animal of DarkClan. Anyone who harms or displaces one will face the wrath of the Clan. 7. Kits are to be cared for by their mothers until they are weaned, at which point they are on their own. 8. A queen must always hunt for herself; not even her mate may assist her in feeding herself. 9. Relationships with cats from other Clans, whether platonic or romantic, are forbidden. Every cat that does not support egoism is an enemy. 10. Only enter another Clan's territory if it is necessary for your own well-being, such as during the pursuit of prey. The Rite of Passage: When an apprentice becomes a warrior, they must undergo one final test to prove themselves worthy of being called a DarkClan warrior. This test is known as The Rite of Passage. It is a very important tradition in DarkClan, as it symbolizes the transition from child to adult. First, the new warrior will have to travel to the oasis with one other warrior. Once there, the older warrior will submerge the younger one in the water. The new warrior must remain still beneath the water for thirty seconds; passing the test is a symbol of the warrior's newfound courage. They will then be brought back to the camp for the second part. In order to complete their Rite of Passage, the new warrior must fight and defeat the chosen warrior. If they win, then they are able to sleep in the warrior's den and become an "official" DarkClan warrior. If they lose, they must sleep in the apprentice's den for three more days before being accepted as an official warrior.
Warrior Ceremony: Once an apprentice has proved to the Clan that they are capable of caring for themselves without need for others, they will be given a final assessment. First, they must prove their hunting ability by catching at least three pieces of prey, sometimes under difficult conditions. Second, they must prove their fighting skills by fighting and defeating a warrior that the leader selects. Third, they must prove their medicinal knowledge by explaining the use of five different herbs that are laid out in front of them from the leader's store. If they pass all three parts, they receive their warrior name and begin the Rite of Passage.
The Departure Ceremony: Once a cat enters a state in which they can no longer care for themselves, a departure ceremony will be held. The cat, labeled as a "sucker" for sucking resources out of the Clan for nothing, will be honored by the leader with a small speech before being cast out of the territory at nightfall. The cat is never permitted to return to DarkClan. A cat may be labeled as a sucker for one of the following reasons: 1) They grow too old and weak to care for and defend themselves properly. 2) They endure a career-ending injury (i.e. Briarlight breaking her spine or Longtail loosing his sight). 3) They are born with a birth defect that prevents them from becoming warriors (i.e. Jayfeather's blindness, Snowkit's deafness). or 4) They endanger the Clan through their actions (i.e. Tigerclaw's plotting or Mudclaw's rebellion).

DarkClan Leader;;
Littlestar - A very small cat, Littlestar is often underestimated simply because of his size. However, he is no cat to write off as weak- in fact, he is a strong, formidable opponent who knows how to use his attributes to his advantage. He is the exact representation of what DarkClan strives for in its cats, which for many is not a good thing. He is very egotistical, self-centered, cold, and unforgiving. He rules his Clan with an iron paw, never hesitating to punish a cat for making an error. His pelt is a mottled black and white, with his sides and face being crisscrossed with scars from many fights, often with his own Clanmates. His eyes are a startling ice-blue, and greatly contrast the blackness of his face. He is about apprentice-sized, meaning he only comes up to the shoulder of most warriors. However, his claws are thorn-sharp, and he isn't afraid to use them to defend his ego. (33 moons, Dᴀɴɴʏ Pʜᴀɴᴛᴏᴍ)
Lives Remaining: Nine.
Deputy;;
( vacant )
Warriors ;;
Shadowfur - a huge jet-black tom with amber eyes, Shadowfur is handsome and knows it. He uses this fact to his advantage, often manipulating she-cats to do his bidding simply by using his looks and charisma. He is a smooth-talker able to make his lies sound like truths and his truths sound like lies. He is cold and calculating, generally caring nothing for those around him. He will readily dish out punishments to those who he thinks deserve them. He is arrogant and boastful, and isn't afraid to start arguments when he feels someone has a wrong perspective on something. He is extremely untrustworthy, and will often go behind other cats' back and betray them, often whilst still manipulating them into doing certain things for him. He has a long scar on his side from when he was first a warrior and was trying to complete his Rite of Passage. (36 moons, Dᴀɴɴʏ Pʜᴀɴᴛᴏᴍ)
Sunfang - A small jet-black tom with a white mark on his chest, the only immediate giveaway that he is Shadowfur's brother is his fur color. He is nearly twice as small as his littermate, his eartips not even reaching the mighty warrior's shoulder. He is only slightly bigger than Littlestar, making him one of the smallest cats in all of the Clans. He has ice-blue eyes that stand out significantly against his pelt, which itself is crisscrossed with many scars. His right ear is torn from when a fight with his brother got out of hand. His personality definitely outsizes him, with him having the same inflated ego as his brother, if not even more extreme. He is extremely flirtatious, being confident in his abilities and not afraid to show it. He is not nearly as charismatic as his brother, though, which means that his attempts at smooth talking usually fail. He likes to mock, and is quite sarcastic. (36 moons, Dᴀɴɴʏ Pʜᴀɴᴛᴏᴍ)
Pythontail - Pythontail is nimble and lithe. He has dark fur, black tabby, and protruding fangs. He has scars lining his coat and a long tail. He is tall and muscled with a white muzzle. He has two amber eyes. One ear is split down the middle. He is very swift. Pythontail is very snappy, annoying, yet calm. He can be a — on occasions but he keeps it under control. He is very shy and virtually never talks. (28 moons, Salt)
Thunderfang - This she-cat is larger than the average female, easily standing at a height that's average for a tom. She is muscular, and even through her thick fur it's easy to see. Scars dance upon her pelt from countless fights she has thrown herself into. This feline fits right into the nocturnal lifestyle with her solid black pelt. Amber eyes peer out from the darkness of her face like two little moons in the endless grip of night. Like a true DarkClanner this cat only thinks of herself. She has no time to worry about others; whatever happens to another cat isn't her problem. She is also battle hungry and aggressive, even to her own Clanmates. If she feels the need to defend herself with her words or her claws, she's going to do as such. No cat gets across her. In her mind she is better than anybody else out there, the most important cat that has ever graced these desert lands. She will fight for the title of most important without any hesitation, drawing upon her fighting skills to seal the deal. (34 moons, Feathertalon)
Adderstrike - A slender, yet muscular brown tabby tom. There isn't much to Adderstrike's appearance, as it is a very typical coat coloring, but along his stomach his belly fur seems to be a bit more ruffled and soft than the rest of his body. His tail is tipped in black, the same color as the tabby markings on his goldenish-brown pelt. Adderstrike has a small bit of white on his chin, leaving that to be the only "odd" color on his body. The very tip of his right ear is torn, and he has bright green eyes. Adderstrike is a serious and stoic tom. He generally stays quiet, especially to cats he doesn't know. He is very reserved, and minds his own business, hardly ever dabbling into another's matters unless it concerns him or the good of the clan. He isn't one to be seen laughing, and it would take a special cat to get him there. Adderstrike lives for his clan, and would do anything to protect it, even if that meant risking his own life. Though he might not seem good with others, he can be if it comes down to it. (36 moons, Rushingwolf)
Apprentices ;;
Antpaw - A small, dark ruddy colored tomcat. His fur is sleek and close to his body, showing off his lithe form. Around his muzzle is a very faint dusting of white, but that is the only other color found upon his pelt other than the rusty hue of ruddy-red. While he is small he has long legs for his body with sleek, lithe muscles that are a lot more powerful than one might expect. He also has a very long and slender tail which allows him to balance a lot better than some of his Clanmates. He has copper eyes that shine bright in his angular head. This tomcat is snappy and temperamental. He is most certainly not the friendliest cat around, always making fun of others and believing he's the best at everything and anything. He's impulsive, running into situations without thinking about the consequences - he worries about those later, and even then he doesn't pay too much attention. Easily angered when somebody tries to stop him from doing something, he lashes out mostly with sharp words, but his claws tend to not fall very far behind. (9 moons, Feathertalon)
Queens ;;
None at this moment.
Kits ;;
None at this moment.
Cats Outside of the Clans
Gila - Gila is a dark gray she-cat with a slightly smushed in face. Her nose is a deep, almost black, gray color, and her eyes are a yellowish-brown. Her pelt is thick and almost fluffy. She has small, dark gray tufts of fur coming out of her ears. This she-cat blends in easily with the shadows, which aids her mysterious nature. The most interesting and striking feature of Gila is her tail, or really, lack there of. She has a simple bobbed tail, that is practically nonexistent. Gila is a mysterious, yet manipulative she-cat. She may seem a bit rough around the edges at times, given the fact that she can be very unpredictable,but for the most part, you never know what you're going to get with her. At times she might seem comical and laid back, and others she might be cunning and sneaky. She is unpredictable, a true charmer. She has a way of getting what she wants, exactly when she wants it. (24 moons, Rushingwolf)

Current Season:
[x] Summer [] Winter
Current Time: Nighttime during a new moon.
The Choosing Ceremony:
The first Chooser attacks the kit, much as an enemy would, with claws sheathed as to not harm the kit. The kit has two clear options: to attack back (which would show aptitude for SunClan or DarkClan) or to flee (which would show aptitude for OwlClan or SolaceClan).
The second Chooser is fully buried up to their nose in sand, and gives the kit two options: to fully dig the Chooser out using nothing but their own claws (which would show aptitude for SolaceClan) or to ignore the Chooser (which would show aptitude for DarkClan). If the kit sees the third option, which is to come up with a more strategical method of freeing the Chooser, they show aptitude for OwlClan. If they hesitate before either helping or leaving the cat, they show aptitude for SunClan.
The third Chooser takes the form of a wizened old cat, and they're trying to get to the oasis, but are too weak to get there. The kit has a few options: to help the older cat to the oasis (which shows aptitude for SolaceClan), to soak a moss ball in water and bring it back to the old cat (which shows aptitude for OwlClan), or to ignore the cat (which shows aptitude for DarkClan). If the kit hesitates at all before making a choice, they show aptitude for SunClan.
The fourth and final Chooser takes the form of a sickly cat, lying behind three piles. The first pile is a desert rose, the second pile is a moss ball soaked in water, and the third pile is herbs. The kit can use the desert rose to end the cat's suffering and their burden on the Clan, (which shows aptitude for SunClan), the moss ball for the cat's comfort (which shows aptitude for SolaceClan), the herbs to heal the cat (which shows aptitude for OwlClan), or ignore the cat (which shows aptitude for DarkClan).
Finally, all four Choosers stand before the kit and ask them a single question: what is the most important thing to the kit? They give the kit four choices: self (DarkClan), others (SolaceClan), Clan (SunClan), or knowledge (OwlClan). This indicates most clearly where the kit wants to be, but not necessarily where they belong.
Once the Choosers select the Clan for the kit, they will inform the leader. The leader will then make an announcement and grant the kit their apprentice name. The Choosers will then escort the new apprentice to their new Clan if necessary.
The Prey List:
African savannah hare - Solitary, nocturnal animals, these hares can reach speeds of up to 43 mph, making them impossible to chase. If a cat wants to catch one, they're going to have to use brains over muscles. Barbary sheep - Also known as arui, these animals are obviously too big for one or two cats to catch alone, not to mention while dealing with their horns. However, a group of cats working together may be able to take one down. Black-tailed jackrabbit - A favorite among desert predators, the black-tailed jackrabbit makes a good meal- yet it is known to be a frequent host of parasites and disease. Cactus wren - A very smart and curious bird, cactus wrens live in pairs and viciously defend their territory, making them potentially hard for unskilled hunters to catch. Cairo spiny mouse - These mice live in groups, residing in burrows and rock crevices. A cat who stumbles upon one of their nests will likely walk away with a great deal of prey. They are nocturnal. Cape ground squirrel - These animals can be hard to catch, as when threatened they perform an act called mobbing, in which numerous ground squirrels rush at their attacker, tails raised to block the predator's advances. Greater roadrunner - Capable of reaching speeds of up to 20 mph, it is the fastest flying bird in existence, making it hard to catch without a lot of forethought put into the hunt. Kangaroo rat - A bipedal animal, kangaroo rats move by jumping with up to six foot strides at up to six mph, and are able to change their direction quickly. Lesser roadrunner - Very similar to the greater, but smaller and with a shorter bill.
Herb List (some but not all uses are entirely fictional; all are real plants):
Desert rose - Its roots and stem produce a highly poisonous sap. Substitute for deathberries. White mustard flower - Its seeds are useful for relieving pain and increasing an ailing patient's comfort. However, the seeds only fall right when it rains. When that happens, the plant uncurls, coming out of hibernation and dropping its seeds. The seeds germinate within a few hours if there is sufficient water from the rain, thus making it critical to harvest them as soon as they drop. The fruit can be collected, crushed, and then consumed to help with bellyaches. White wormwood - The leaves of this, which are strongly aromatic, can be crushed to produce a plant oil that has antibacterial properties. The oil is used on wounds to help prevent infection, and is also used in the treatment of said infections. Desert date tree - The fruit of this tree can be crushed and consumed by nursing mothers to improve lactation; it is also used in the treatment of headaches. The bark can be used as an antidote for the poison of the desert rose. Hanza - The leaves of this tree can be used to aid in the healing process of wounds. They have a bitter taste, yet must be consumed to be effective. African mustard - The yellow flowers of this plant are used to treat minor aches and pains. Apple of Sodom - The green globes of this plant are extremely bitter and toxic, likely more so than the desert rose. The death they cause is painful, and as such the desert rose is preferred for euthanasia. Tahara - When crushed, the leaves of this plant form a poultice that can be used to treat the symptoms of whitecough and greencough. The poultice is also good for treating sore throats. Ana tree - The extract from this tree's leaves can be used to treat serious infections. Laxiflorus - When crushed, the extract from the roots can be applied to the forehead to relieve headaches. It can also be consumed for joint and backaches. The leaves can be crushed and applied to the paws to treat cracked pads. Mustard tree - Young and elderly cats are encouraged to chew a small branch from this tree daily to promote tooth health. The leaves can be consumed to treat a variety of diseases, including whitecough and greencough. The flowers have a pleasant smell and may be used to cover a dead body or to mask the scent of illness. Red acacia - Bark from this tree is consumed to treat nausea, vomiting, and fevers. It is given to expectant mothers to help them stay healthy during pregnancy. Athel tree - The strong branches of this tree are used to hold broken limbs in place. The leaves can be crushed and consumed as a soothing herb.
Dangerous Animals:
African wild dog - While relatively small in size, they live in packs of 2-27 adults and pups, making them dangerous opponents. A group of wild dogs can easily kill a small group of cats by ganging up on them, and thus are best avoided. Generally, a pack will not attack a cat unless their territory or food is threatened. Arizona bark scorpion - Although small in size, their sting is extremely painful; the pain is accompanied often with nausea and vomiting. The sting site often becomes extremely numb, causing temporary dysfunction of the limb and convulsions. The venom is not fatal except in kits and elders, and the effects fade after 24-72 hours. Stings are common; if stung, the sting area should be washed clean and the affected cat should rest. They are nocturnal, so stings during the day are fewer than those at night unless a cat accidentally disturbs one. Horned desert viper - Generally residing around oases or rocky outcrops, the horned desert viper is a relatively placid snake, often fleeing when disturbed. If further threatened, it will strike. The venom is not always fatal, but may be in young or old cats or in extreme situations. Common symptoms include nausea, vomiting, and severe bleeding. If bit, a cat should consume the bark of the desert date tree to help reduce the effects of the poison, and should rest as symptoms persist. Gila monster - A large but slow-moving lizard, the gila monster is the sacred animal of DarkClan. If avoided, the creature should cause no problems. However, should a cat either act foolishly or with extremely bad luck, they may be bit. The gila monster has an extremely strong, crushing bite, and it often takes either killing or submerging to creature to free oneself. The monster's venom is not fatal to healthy, adult cats. Rather, blood loss from the severe bite is the more likely cause of a fatality. Symptoms include excruciating pain, edema, and weakness. Sidewinder - While the sidewinder is the least venomous rattlesnake, their venom is still significant and can be fatal in young or weak cats. Symptoms include pain, swelling around the bite, nausea, dizziness, chills, coagulopathy, and shock. Deathstalker scorpion - The most venomous scorpion in the world, a bite from a deathstalker will kill even a healthy adult cat. The bite is extraordinarily painful, causing convulsions. Death is achieved following a buildup of fluid in the lungs caused by envenomation. Euthanasia is generally recommended for bite victims to spare them the excruciating death. Inland taipan - Both the most venomous snake and reptile in the world, a taipan's venom is lethal to all cats, healthy or not. It is fortunately however a shy snake, and will usually run away if confronted. However, if cornered or continuously provoked, it will strike repeatedly with agility and speed. Immediate symptoms include headache, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness, collapse, and convulsions. Death occurs within 30-45 minutes. The cause of death is generally: respiratory failure, severe hemorrhaging, or cardiac arrest caused by severe envenomation. None right now.

(I'll start.)
Shadowfur stood just outside of the tunnel that lead down into DarkClan's camp. Even after spending almost three season-cycles alive, he still found it hard to believe how quickly the sand cooled after the sun set. During the day, no cat could set paw on the sand lest they set their paws on fire. At night, however, the sand was cool to the touch. It actually felt pleasant to stand on. Shadowfur shifted his weight around, feeling the sand shift beneath his paws and slide up between his claws.

Shadowfur turned at Pythontail's voice. He snorted, his tail lashing from side to side. "I guess so, yeah," he growled. He normally preferred to hunt by himself, but once in a while he appreciated the company of a DarkClan cat. Hunting was usually his time to think over his problems and their possible solutions, but he supposed that could be put off for a bit. "Let's go." He started padding away.

The setting sun had the camp bustling with activity. To this particular warrior that was a good thing, seeing the Clan going on with their tasks. Seeing cats go out on hunting trips meant that there were no weaklings at the moment, no suckers to take away from the Clan's power. All seemed to be well in the camp as night came over the land and cooled the formerly scorching sand.
Aroused by the falling night, the large she-cat known as Thunderfang slipped out of the warriors' burrow, amber eyes narrowed as she looked around the camp. Already she could see two other warriors heading out of camp; she knew she would soon go out herself for some hunting and patrolling. Scanning her eyes around camp she took note of the young Antpaw grooming out his sleek pelt, copper eyes glinting in the shadows from time to time to see if any cat was coming up to him. Thunderfang snorted. With a flick of her thick tail she began to pad closer to the camp's exit, only interested in grabbing herself something to eat.

Adderstrike emerged from warriors' burrow after Thunderfang. The tabby tom stuck to himself, ignoring the larger she-cat. He stopped outside of the warriors' burrow and slid into a stretch, opening his jaws into a wide yawn. The tom had just woken up and was eager to get outside. Adderstrike stood up out of his stretch and shook out his pelt, glancing around for a moment. He flexed his claws to give them their own small stretch, his green eyes landing upon Antpaw, and then shifting to the three cats leaving camp. The tabby felt his stomach growl and he looked down for a moment, flicking his ear. "Time to grab a bite to eat." He thought to himself and then left for the camp exit.

The tabby felt his stomach growl and he looked down for a moment, flicking his ear. "Time to grab a bite to eat." He thought to himself and then left for the camp exit. Usually for Antpaw the life of a DarkClan cat was pretty simple. The rule was very clear - fend for yourself. Out here it was a dog eat dog world. Even with this harsh lifestyle they were still a Clan, and a Clan stuck together. That set them apart from a group of rogues or loners who fought over every little thing and got themselves killed over stupid banters. Even if DarkClanners were to fend for themselves, they were still a Clan, and activities were still done together. For once in his life he felt like socializing. Getting up to his paws, young Antpaw took notice of Adderstrike heading out of camp. Whether he was hunting or patrolling, the little ruddy tom didn't care, he just wanted to get out of camp and do something productive. "Adderstrike!" He called out as he bounded over to the tom. "Wait up!"

Hearing his name, Adderstrike stopped and turned his head. When he saw Antpaw, the tom couldn't help but slightly roll his eyes. Didn't he know to leave him alone? Sure they were clan-mates, but still. Adderstrike was used to being alone and Antpaw was used to, well, being Antpaw. Everyone knew the small cat was temperamental, so what did he want?
"Yes?" Adderstrike asked, his voice monotonous. His green eyes pierced Antpaw's as he spoke. Before the apprentice could answer, Adderstrike turned and began walking out of camp. All he wanted to do was hunt, and while he'd much rather do it alone; it seemed he had no choice- especially with Antpaw on his tail.

There was no way Adderstrike was getting rid of Antpaw now. Nope, the little tom was going to follow the warrior on his hunting trip. It would also be a good way to show a warrior that he was more than capable of fending for himself. It would do him better if he could show his skills off to Littlestar, but Adderstrike was good enough for right now he supposed. As long as it was some cat older than him it was alright.
Antpaw paused for a second when he came to stand beside Adderstrike. He looked right up at the brown tabby, copper eyes narrowing somewhat. "I'm coming with you," he mewed in a tone that suggested he was not going to take no for an answer. Adderstrike was either going to let him go or, well, there wasn't another option. Adderstrike was going to let Antpaw tag along. So without anything else to say, the ruddy tom followed the warrior out into the darkened night.

At the words, "I'm coming with you.", Adderstrike lashed his tail. Didn't the apprentice have something better to do? Like, practice battle moves or something? Adderstrike nodded. "Fine" He answered simply, not in the mood to argue with the other tom. Since it had just turned nighttime, Adderstrike figured the tom really didn't have anything else to do but go with him. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad. Adderstrike had been told numerous times by others to be more courteous and friendly, so why not try it on an apprentice? "Where do you want to go?" He asked Antpaw without looking at him.
Stepping out into the cool night made Adderstrike perk his ears. He loved his clan and his territory, but sometimes he wished that he was able to go outside and see the sunlight. The tom had never really ventured out during the day. His paw pads were much too fragile to be stepping on the scorching sand, much like the others in this clan. There was a reason DarkClan cats stuck to the night. They didn't get their clan name from nowhere. Adderstrike respected these rules, even if sometimes he wished they were different.

Adderstrike's asocial tendencies didn't bother Antpaw. Luckily he wasn't in the mood for arguing right now, so he was just letting Adderstrike be his moody self for the moment. All the apprentice wanted to do was get out of camp and show off his skills that he had been working on for the past few moons - or his whole life really. He had been lucky and was born into DarkClan. The moment he was able to get up and start moving around was the moment he started to attempt training himself up to be a strong and powerful warrior. Antpaw had always looked up to his father, and even his mother, and in doing so he had always wanted to be like them - strong and independent. Even now that his parents were gone, they had died as they lived fighting off some African Wild Dogs, Antpaw looked up to them and wanted to make them as proud as he could, and that meant becoming the best warrior DarkClan has ever seen.
The young tom perked up his ears when he heard Adderstrike's question. Where exactly did he want to go? An idea soon hit him. "The gully," he responded with ease. The gully was right on the border with SolaceClan, one of DarkClan's enemies. They were mouse-hearted cats, weak and cared for others more than they cared about themselves. What sort of cat acted in such a way? Antpaw snorted. SolaceClan cats were idiots in his mind, so if he and Adderstrike ran into a patrol then he wasn't going to be afraid to unsheathe his claws.

Adderstrike gave a small smile when his paws hit the cool sand. That had to be one of the best feelings in the world, especially to a DarkClan cat. He had never met anyone in the clan who didn't like the feeling of sand between their toes. The tabby could remember the first time his mother took him out of camp. He had been a kit then; one of the lucky ones that were able to leave camp. He'd never forget that memory, and now that he was a warrior he could go out of camp whenever he pleased. It really was a great thing.
Adderstrike stopped when he heard Antpaw's answer. He narrowed his eyes. There was only one reason a young cocky apprentice would want to go to the gully. SolaceClan. "No." The tom said simply, waiting for the apprentice's reaction. He knew Antpaw was going to throw a kit fit at that answer, but frankly he didn't trust the tom. There was going to be a night where Antpaw would have to venture down there, but tonight wasn't that night. Not unless Antpaw could convince Adderstrike otherwise.
