Brackenhop & The Kev Gang

- Land of Dysfunctional Relationships
With the squabbling of sibling rivalries and the acerbic quips of onlooking parents sounding throughout the forest, one would think it was best to avoid encountering this apparent scene. Most would slink around it with tentative paws, and tightly held breaths, and if luck was on their side, they could easily slip around the situation. But unfortunately for Brackenhop, she had not a choice in the matter. Why? Because one of the cats there- a particular Snakepaw- was her apprentice, and her apprentice was just that: particular. If you were to describe the situation simply, you could say that their ideals just didn't exactly match.
"Oh, Vulturestep! Give her a break!"
With a singsong voice as fluid as a mountain stream, Brackenhop herself made her presence known in that quick moment. With her green gaze a flicking between the father and son, the tabby she-cat took a small moment to study the two. They really were nothing alike, as Snakepaw, her apprentice, was as rebellious and fickle as-- well, something that was rebellious and fickle. Vulturestep on the other paw was like the embodiment of a warrior's pride, all compacted into one muscled body. While Brackenhop was loyal to her clan, yes, she couldn't say she really related to either of them. Still, they made for a good chuckle every now and then.
"Actually, I'm sure Bitterflower here really would appreciate a break. Hey, if you're so eager to play nanny, I'm sure they can squeeze you through the nursery entrance with enough effort! Nanny Vulturestep!"
Her tone a roguish tease, the long-haired she-cat cast a quick glance in Bitterflower's direction; really, the mother had her sympathy. While she'd never actually raised kits of her own, she'd dealt with some pretty kittenish adults (plus her apprentice), and that was about as easy as wrangling a fox. She couldn't even imagine what it'd be like to raise actual ones, with all their fuzz and vomit.
Padding quietly over towards Snakepaw, the she-cat rather huffily pushed the father's rump away, and pulled her apprentice over to her with a paw hooked 'round the neck. "Your dad's pretty crazy, you know that? If he was my dad, I'd pull my fur out!" |
