The young reddish-ginger tom made his way out of the apprentices den. Sagepaw stretched out his long and thin body. He shook his pelt and let his amber-gray gaze look over it before deciding it didn't need his attention. The young tom then looked for Swiftclaw, his father, but couldn't seem to find him. He slightly frowned and smacked a paw on the ground. He's probably with Pinepaw, telling him how much of a great warrior he'll be. He gritted his teeth and stomped his way to the fresh-kill pile. He picked himself a small piece of prey before settling down a few feet away from the pile and biting into it. While he ate he continued to glance around the camp for his father.

Pinepaw and Swiftclaw had been out since before the first light of dawn broke doing a night-hunting session. Pinepaw had begun to enjoy those more and more so his mentor had started to take him out on them more frequently, especially since that was when he caught the most prey. When they entered the camp shortly after dawn when the cats of the clan were just beginning to awaken, Pinepaw carried in two frogs, a lizard, and a small bird. Any cat that saw him put the pieces of prey on the fresh-kill pile knew that the mentor and apprentice had had a good time by the smiles on their faces. "Thanks again, Swiftclaw!" the young apprentice called after the warior. |

Sagepaw heard his clan mate's and his father voices nearing the camp entrance when he just finished up eating his prey. The reddish-ginger tom sat up quickly and smiled at Swiftclaw who just ignored his presence. The apprentice just frowned and looked down at his paws. Before putting his gaze upon Pinepaw. He glared at his clan mate and stood up. The tom made his way over to Pinepaw and pinned his ears back. "What makes you so special?" He growled at the fellow tom. He lashed his tail and obviously the tom stood over Pinepaw, with the advantage of being two moons older and just having the longer legs to back him up.

Pinepaw tilted his head and looked at his fellow apprentice with a confused gaze. "Well, nothing, I suppose," he meowed. Even though he knew that Swiftclaw liked him better than his own son, he wasn't one to gloat so he wasn't going to say anything about it. However, if worse came to worse and Sagepaw continued on like he was, he would have to do something about it. As of late he had been teasing and being rude to him more than he had ever had before and Pinepaw was a bit confused about it. Maybe he's jealous because I'm going to make a better warrior than him. His father is one of the best, so I'm going to be too. |

Sagepaw pointed an accusing paw at Pinepaw. "You are trying to steal my father aren't you!" He snarled. "I just don't see why you get praised all the time and I get pushed to the back, I don't see anything great in you." Sagepaw's eyes began to turn into slits the more and more angrier he got. The young tom slammed his paw on the ground and he snorted. "So tell me this." He growled. "Why does he favor you over his own son?!" |

Out of the corner of his eye, Pinepaw saw his mentor making his way over. Quickly, before Swiftclaw could arrive, he stepped forward so that he was right next to Sagepaw. He then hissed in his ear, "because he thinks you killed Willowflame," before turning tail and walking over to meet Swiftclaw. "I don't know what's wrong with him, Swiftclaw, he's crazy." |

Sagepaw unsheathed his claws and dug them into the ground. He glared at the apprentice who brought up his mother. He never knew the gray she-cat with the ginger belly and apparently from what he heard beautiful green eyes. Sagepaw sat down and hung his head slightly, he heard from others that his mother was an excellent fighter and was a kind and friendly soul. She never turned anyone away that needed help. Sagepaw moved his gray-green gaze to his father. Then why did she choose to become mates with a stern hunter like my father? He silently wondered.

Swiftclaw tipped his head to the side. "Hmm?" Mumbled the full grown tom. "What was he saying this time?" The tabby questioned his apprentice. He then met his son's gray-green gaze with is own gray eyes. He narrowed his eyes and shot him an hurtful glare. He lashed his long tail at Sagepaw which made the younger tom quickly look away.

He questioned.

Pinepaw hadn't been born yet when Willowflame gave birth to Swiftclaw's 'curse' so he had no idea how graphic or horrible her death had been and, honestly, he was a bit glad for it. If it affected Swiftclaw and Sagepaw's relationship this much he was pretty sure he would never want to see something like that. Snapping out of his thoughts, Pinepaw shook his head in the negative and sat on his paws. "Just a little sleepy but that's nothing that sunbathing can't fix," he said with a small smile. |

Swiftclaw gave a light smile and pushed his apprentice off towards a sun-bathing spot. "Go on, get some rest." He meowed, "can't have the clans best apprentice be sleeping all the time." He gave a light and small purr before sitting down and wrapping his long tail around his paws. From a sitting down point, Swiftclaw and Sagepaw look very similar. Both of them being long-legged and lithe along with a long tail and they aren't that far off with the pelt color.

The smokey blue tom let out a purr himself and padded over to one of the few smooth rocks in camp to lay down. When he did, he rested his chin on his paws and let out a soft sigh. However rude Sagepaw was, he still felt bad for him. Pinepaw knew the troubles of not knowing your mother, but he didn't know his father either. It was hard on both him and his sister, Asterpaw. |
