Ashes chuckled, "You lead and I'll follow your paws." the tip of her tail flicking in amusement.

Smoke padded ahead of Ashes and scanned the rows of Twoleg dens. A little ways beyond the row facing them was the pine forest, where patrols would sometimes go in search of food or herbs. Though he enjoyed taking walks in the forest, Smoke decided it might be nice to stay in Twolegplace for right now. Glancing to his right, he meowed, "How about this way?"

"Sounds good to me, always good to explore." Ashes tried to smile but it turned more into a grin, she started heading right flanking Smoke left side.

Smoke began walking, his steps matching Ashes' pace. He kept his gaze on Ashes for a while, though sometime later he tilted his head up to look at the walls of the Twoleg dens. Unlike his usually chatty nature, Smoke kept quiet for most of the time.

Ashes looked around the area as they walked, studying the territory and making small mental reminders here and there. "Pretty decent territory." She murmured out loud.

At Ashes' sudden comment, Smoke nodded. "Today's a good day for a walk," he meowed. The hunter took another deep breath of the crisp autumn air. If Smoke had to pick a favorite season, he would most likely say autumn. He enjoyed the cold, crisp air.

Without stopping and without looking at Smoke, Ashes pondered "That forest I noticed back there, do many cats go out there?"

Smoke turned his head back towards Ashes. "Sometimes, scavenger or hunting patrol go there. It's also a nice place for walks every now and then," he replied.

"Hm I see..." Her voice trailed off for a moment before she shook her head, "I'm sure it is a lovely place to take walks!" She tried to smile again, but it didn't look quite right.

Smoke turned his head back towards the trail ahead of them. "I sometimes go there when I want to stretch my legs," he meowed, "This time of year is always nice for going on walks."

Ashes sighed and gave a small nod. "Yeah I understand,. the feeling of grass and leaves under your paws, the breeze carrying the forest scent between your fur. Feeling so free and wild, boundless even." She seemed lost in thought.

Smoke looked again at Ashes, who seemed lost in thought, almost reminiscent. Though many of his denmates were born as part of the rogue band, some of them were previously loners or kittypets. "Did you use to live in the forest?" he asked with a tilt of his head.

"I did at one time," Ashes grinned, "But I was kind of chased out by some other cats. Traveled for a very long time and ended up here." she explained.

Smoke nodded. Though he liked to go on walks through the forest, you never know what you could run into. Foxes and badgers lurked in unexpected areas. "You never know what to expect when you walk into the forest," he chuckled.

"Never had to deal with big creatures like what you have around here, so it'll be interesting if I run into one some day. Killed plenty of that were my size or smaller, but animals like bears or wolves now that'll be a challenge." Ashes laughed, playfully growling and baring her sharp fangs.

Smoke imagined the predators that lurked in the nearby forest. He had never seen a bear from his own experience, but some of the older cats had told him about them. "I have never seen a bear, though I have ran into a few foxes," he said.

"Foxes can be hard to take down, don't want to get grabbed by those jaws. Easier to deal with when the numbers are in your favor." Ashes bobbed her head side and side, thinking of battles and fights.

"Foxes are sometimes spotted around these parts, though most of the time they are alone," Smoke stated. Foxes were a struggle to deal with when alone, though he knew that they must be even harder to fight when in a group.

"Maybe you'll get a chance to fight one, it would be a great battle story!" Ashes grinned and nudged Smoke's shoulder with her own.

Smoke let out a chuckle as Ashes' comment. In truth, he wondered if he would ever get a chance to fight of a predator like a fox or wolf. Even though he had spotted a few foxes in his life, most of the fighting was the fighters' job. "Possibly," he meowed.

"Never forget that those claws and fangs are good for more than just gathering smaller prey." Ashes gave a dark grin, flexing her own claws into the dirt below.

Smoke let out another chuckle. A cat's claws were used as a means of both protecting oneself and hunting prey, though being a hunter meant that Smoke mostly used his while hunting. "Too bad I'm not a fighter," he joking meowed.

Ashes sighed and nodded in agreement. "Yes I wish I was a fighter as well, but aha it wouldn't not be the best for me. Simply stealing from two-legs and on occasion scratching a few of them is a decent sort of enjoyment."

Smoke twitched his whiskers, nodding in agreement. "I'm not a scavenger, but it's always nice to hook your claws into a squirrel or a mouse," he meowed. At his statement, Smoke began to think of the small prey pile back in camp. Though he knew that Stone had already sent out a scavenger patrol, the hunter couldn't help but think of stopping for a hunt sometime on this walk.

Ashes looked at Smoke, "You want to go hunting maybe?" she glanced back over her shoulder in the direction of the forest. She could see tops of some autumn colored tree in the distance.

Smoke shrugged, turning his head towards the forest. "Sure, why not?" he replied, padding in the direction of the woods. It's almost like she read my mind, he thought, casting a glance back at Ashes. Though the low prey pile would worry any cat who cares.

When Smoke glanced at her, Ashes stared back silently for a while like she was staring right through him. Her white paws followed him quietly. "Heh I wonder how big this forest is..." She wondered as she tried not to grin.

As the two cats padded into the forest, Smoke lifted his head and began to search for any traces of prey. After a short while, he still hadn't found anything. "I've found nothing," he stated. The hunter turned his gaze towards Ashes, wondering if it was the same for her. Scavengers were usually the best at scenting out herbs or prey.

Ashes closed her eyes and took a moment smell and taste the air. "I smell some prey but we'd probably have to walk farther into the forest to find it." She explained, she didn't wait for much of a response before heading in the direction supposedly where she had picked up a scent or two.

Smoke's gaze followed Ashes as she began to pad in the direction of where she had supposedly smelled a hint of prey. He then padded towards the scavenger, keeping his pace similar to hers so that he was a couple of taillengths behind her. As the two cats trekked through the forest, he continued to sniff the air for the scent that Ashes had detected.
