Rabbitfrost trotted over to the nursery to visit Petalstream, carrying a plump rat in his jaws. He dropped it in front of his sister. "How are you feeling?" He asked her.
Petalstream groaned as a spasm racked through her belly. "I think the kits are coming!" She gasped.
Rabbitfrost raced out of the nursery and to the medicine cat's den. "Lichenstep! Petalstream's kits are coming!"

Honeyleaf, having been a queen not too long before, raced to the nursery when she heard Rabbitfrost calling for Lichenstep. She sat down beside Petalstream's head and gave her a few licks between the ears. "Don't worry, you're going to be fine," she mewed soothingly.

Petalstream shrieked in pain as a spasm ripped through her belly and the first kit was born.
Rabbitfrost stood off to the side, watching his sister anxiously, wondering where Lichenstep was.

Honeyleaf nipped the sac and the first tiny bundle tumbled out. She gently picked up the kit and put it down by its mother's belly.

Petalstream went to lick her daughter, but let out another cry of pain as two more kits slid out one after the other.
Rabbitfrost started licking the little she-kit.

Honeyleaf licked the next two kits to get them breathing before placing them beside their mother.

Petalstream let out a weak groan of pain as the last kit was born.
Rabbitfrost picked up the last kit and placed it by Petalstream's belly. "Two toms and two she-kits," he murmured gently to his sister.
Petalstream purred weakly and looked at her kits. She touched the first kit, the golden tabby she-kit. "This is Applekit," she murmured. She nudged the calico she-kit. "This is Cherrykit." She gave the little tabby tom a lick on the head. "Ryekit." And finally she looked at the dark ginger tom. "Gorsekit."

Honeyleaf purred and licked Petalstream on the head. "Congratulations, Petalstream. You should get some rest now." She looked at Rabbitfrost. "Your sister needs rest now."

Petalstream purred and curled herself around her kits.
Rabbitfrost padded out of the nursery.
Mudstar glanced at Rabbitfrost and trotted over to him. "Is everything alright in there?" He asked.
Rabbitfrost nodded happily. "Four kits. Two toms, Ryekit and Gorsekit, and two she-kits, Applekit and Cherrykit. All are healthy, including Petalstream."
Mudstar purred. "Good. I'm glad."

Rabbitfrost dipped his head to his leader.
