Shadecreek dipped her head in a short nod, grateful for getting to spend the time with her apprentice alone. She could sense that Bogpaw was slightly relieved, as well, and she got the feeling the female sibling sometimes felt a bit like she drowned in her bold brother's shadow. "Then I suppose it's just the two of us, Bogpaw. Time for me to share my most secret hunting techniques. Come along!" Her eyes glinted playfully at her apprentice and she offered a soft smile so tiny one might wonder if it was even there. Before the other she-cat had the time to reply, Shadecreek took to her feet and crept out of camp on silent paws.

Her most secret techniques!? Bogpaw felt a spark of excitement light in her chest at the very thought. Her wide eyes shone up at Shadecreek with wonder before she glanced back at Claypaw. He had turned and seemed to be heading to the fresh-kill pile. As much as he annoyed her, being away from her brother still made her a bit nervous. At nine moons, she knew this was kitt-ish and silly. It was hard for her to do things alone. But the thought of learning something he didn't know was too enticing to ignore. Her brother forgotten, the she-cat turned back to see Shadecreek was already leaving. Bogpaw followed after her mentor, trying to copy the smooth stealth of the older she-cat with mixed results.

Shadecreek smiled to herself as she rushed through the trees, moving faster and faster to check how well her apprentice could keep up. She found that she really enjoyed being a mentor. Apprentices were much less judgemental than many of the older warriors, and so full of energy. Bogpaw was somehow unusually easy to talk to. With her open mind and innocent attitude, she made Shadecreek allow herself to open up much more than she ususally did. She wondered if her brother felt the same. Not that he had ever struggled with fitting in.. Realizing that she was near a perfect spot for hunting, Shadecreek returned her thoughts to her apprentice. "How are you keeping up?" she called in a slightly teasing manner, using her stealth to become one with the shadows. It was a test to see if Bogpaw would be able to spot her.

Bogpaw couldn't help but lag a bit behind her mentor, not having the speed or stamina of a fully grown warrior. But her speed was something she was proud of. Claypaw never could keep up with her. He was too bulky. But against Shadecreek, she was still too slow. As Shadecreek seemed to vanish among the darkness, Bogpaw drew to a stop. She panted a little as she tried to catch her breath. "I think...Im keeping up alright.", the black-furred apprentice called back. She scanned the surrounding area with her big green eyes, near reflective in the dim light, and tried to focus. Some movement in the darkness caught her eye. Could be a bird, Shadecrek wouldn't give herself away like that. Bogpaw whipped to the side in a flash and crouched playfully towards where she believed her mentor to be, ready to parry her if she leapt out. "Found you!"

"Whatever you say, Shadowstalker" Jaggedpaw shrugged, "What if he's not nice to me, can't I retaliate?" The second question was more of a button pusher than anything and he knew he was asking for trouble. Genuinely though, the large tabby couldn't help it. It was just so easy to antagonize his mentor, especially when she usually took his antics in good humor. "But can I eat first or should we just get going?" He grinned widely, tail twitching with mischief, okay now you're pushing it he warned himself.
"Yes we are" Stormtrail rumbled, "Come on, cub, lets make sure we keep up with the others. Don't want to miss anything interesting. We'll talk about what you're going to be working on today as well." The large male paused, brow furrowing further as he thought. "I think we're going to work with logs today, what do you think?" [who's going on dawn patrol?]

When Bogpaw whipped to the side to where Shadecreek was hiding, the older she-cat took an unexpected move. Instead of leaping on top of her apprentice, as one might expect, she laid low and shot out underneath her belly, flipping her off balance as she stood up to her normal height. The two of them tumbled over in the mud, Shadecreek on top of her apprentice. While Bogpaw may end up with a couple of scratches after that, the older she-cat had made sure not to cause any big damage. She giggled slightly as she pulled herself to her feet, eyes glinting playfully. "That was very good! You kept up an impressive pace while running, and spotted me quickly. This maneuver I just pulled is not one you'll have learned before, so I did not expect you to see it coming. I think you handled it well considering that fact."
Maybe Mistytooth could join the patrol?)

Bogpaw sputtered as she pulled herself out of the mud, shaking out her pelt to try and remove as much as possible. A futile attempt honestly. She felt the subtle sting of a few light scratches but nothing she felt needed attention. That move was incredible! Next time they sparred, she would have to ask Shadecreek to teach it to her. "Th-thank you, Shadecreek." she murmured, her chest puffed up with pride. Being praised like this made her feel bashful but it was still nice to be acknowledged. "I've been practicing. I asked Claypaw to help me with my tracking. He would hide and I would go look for him." she admitted sheepishly as she swiped her muddy paw over her muddy whiskers in an attempt to clean herself up a bit. At least her scent would be hidden while they were hunting.

Shadecreek nodded along to what her apprentice was saying. "That's good. Mistytooth and I did that when we first joined the clan, too", she said with a smile. "Just remember not to let him overshadow you completely. While you may not have all the skills he has, you've got plenty others of your own. The next time we go battle training, I'll teach you the move I just did, and then I promise that you'll beat him. Now, to hunting!" Her voice shifted from soft to energetic in a second. "Can you sense any prey nearby?"

((I love Shadecreek. Shes adorable.))
Bogpaw took a deep breath to settle herself. Her ears perked attentively and she tried to detect any scents in the air around her. Some rustling could be heard but it was in the trees. Probably some birds. She scrunched her nose and tried to concentrate. Something tasty caught her attention and she immediately smiled. Lizards! Her favorite. She couldn't help but shimmy a little in excitement. "I think some birds in the tree...but...lizards. I can definitely smell lizards." she murmured as she tried to locate her possible prey.

Aw, Bogpaw, too. My intention was to make Shade this mysterious loner, but her cutesy side keeps shining through lol))
Shadecreek watched in silence as her apprentice tasted the air. This time, she had decided she was going to let Bogpaw do all the work herself. She would let her try and catch a piece of prey of her own choosing first, and then she would show her how she could do it easier afterwards, depending on her success. Her tail wrapped around her paws, and she took a deep breath, checking what prey was around to begin with. Two lizards to her right, a wren in the closest tree and a rabbit somewhere further north.

((Same. Bogpaw is supposed to be so meek but shes so eager and cute lol.))
Seeing that Shadecreek wasn't moving, Bogpaw knew she was waiting for the apprentice to go. She kneaded her paws against the soft ground for a moment before nodding to herself and stalking off. She snuck through the brush quietly, watching her paws are she did to avoid any twigs. Unfortunately, she wasn't keeping track of her feathery tail. Just as she caught sight of the lizards she had been looking for, her tail hit against a branch and rustled some leaves. The lizards began to dart off and she sprung after them. Luckily, she landed on the slower one's tail and she swiftly killed it. She looked at where the other lizard ran off too and huffed. She had wanted to catch both but she messed it up. Bogpaw picked up the lizard and carried it back to Shadecreek with a frown. "I missed one."

Shadecreek watched intently as Bogpaw moved. She noted what the apprentice did well, and what they would need to work on. Her eyes narrowed as she approached the lizards. Until her tail hit the branch, it was going fairly well. Bogpaw had obviously been practising since their last hunting session, and the notion made Shadecreek strangely satisfied. "So I saw. You were doing quite good at first", she praised her, before crinkling her nose. "However, you cannot allow yourself to make mistakes like the one you did with your tail there. It was deeply unneccessary, and I know you can better. Try one more."
I'm heading off to bed, it's almost half past two where I live. Good night!)

((Goodnight!))
Bogpaw felt herself bristle at what her mentor said but forced herself to ignore it. Her words were duly earned, even if she didn't like it. With a terse nod, she plunged back into the brush. She tried to take in the scents again. The lizard from earlier was long gone but now she was moving closer to...a rabbit. That would be a good way to redeem herself. She would have to be careful though.
She snuck as softly as she could and paid extra attention to her tail as she moved. She didn't want to make the same mistake. As the scent of rabbit grew thicker, she slowed her pace. She could see it now. She readied herself for the chase and burst through the brush. The rabbit took off immediately but Bogpaw had the advantage. In only a few fox-lengths, she was on the rabbit and killing it quickly. Huffing out her nose, Bogpaw clumsily carried the rabbit back to Shadecreek and dropped it at her feet. She waited, catching her breath, to hear what her mentor had to say about her second attempt.

[[ Just as a breif apology, sorry I've been on kinda erratically. It's been a busy weekend, and I burnt my hand last night which makes it awkward to type! Also, wow, y'all have been busy lol]]
[[xfogpathx BRO its so good!!! Crooked Kingdom is somehow even better though. I just re-read them both this week.]]
At the sight of his mate, Mirestar felt a warm glow beneath his chest as his heartbeat slowed. They were past the stage of nervousness and awkward moments. Now they were content to simply bask in each other's presence. He nuzzled her ear in answer, trying to keep his attention on the conversation. "Yes, Stormcrest. But you might want to be quick about it, we don't have all day!" He purred good-naturedly.
Shadowstalker fixed her apprentice with a stern gaze. "If you have a problem with him, sort it out like proper warriors. There might come a time when you need each other in battle, and you'll want to know that you can rely on him without worry." She licked a paw and drew it over one black ear. "And yes, you can eat. Be quick about it."
"Um, okay," Coldpaw replied sheepishly. They'd never worked with logs before--only tree roots and boulders. But he supposed it was important, considering the amount of fallen trees in the territory. His paws itched to be out and learning the hidden secrets of the swamp, and he felt a slight thrill of satisfaction. Few cats in the forest knew the skill he was learning--certainly not in CalderaClan!
[[The dawn patrol is kinda whoever wants to go. But we don't want too many cats. Shadowstalker, Jaggedpaw, Fogstalker, Webpaw, Antpaw, Mistytooth, and Crowscratch. They'll go for the northwest corner and then split into two groups, moving in opposite directions]]

((Hi!)) ((Oh wow thats unfortunate. I hope your hand feels better. Also, thats totally the next book Im gonna buy. Im so hooked now.))
Stormcrest looked away shyly from her leader and his mate. "Y-yes, of course. I will get right on that and meet you by the entrance!" she squeaked and bobbed her head towards the leader and older warrior before scurrying away from them. Now, who could she get to join a patrol? It already had her and Mirestar. It seemed like a serious patrol, an important patrol. She should try for the best. Tawnytail. She took a deep breath and began to search for her first choice.

Tawnytail was in her favorite spot. On the front porch by the entrance, tail flicking back and forth as her eyes observed the dull gloom of the bayou. What a lovely day she thought, taking a deep breath in and slowly releasing it. No, it wasn't a sigh. Tawnytail doesn't sigh, that is for cats with air in their lungs. Tawnytail only inhaled the scent of fear and exhaled the screams of her enemies. She was hardcore like that, or so she'd overheard. No one said that to her face, and if they didn't she'd just stare at them until they went away. Today will be pleasant she thought and let out another not-sigh.

Stormcrest caught sight of Tawnytail out on the porch and tried to steel her nerves. She shook out her pelt once, twice, and then went forward to meet her. "Ah, Tawnytail!" the young warrior called out, dipping her head respectfully to the senior warrior. "Are you..uh...busy right now? Mirestar asked me to gather a patrol to go with him. There may be evidence of rogues by the border." she asked with a nervous smile from her place by the doorway.

"Sweet!" Jaggedpaw lopped over to the pile and rooted for something real juicy– "No frogs today? Bummer" he mumbled, choosing a pathetic looking bank vole to eat. Eating it in a few quick bites, hoping beyond hope that he wouldn't get a cramp, Jaggedpaw stood. "Ready–" A burp bubbled from his chest and he couldn't quite hold it back. "Sorry" he muttered, looking at his paws as he remembered his manners last minute.
"Don't look so worried. I'll make sure you don't get eaten." Stormtrail managed to say it with a straight face, though just barely. No one accused Stormtrail of making any good jokes in his lifetime but he always thought he was pretty funny.
Tawnytail's ears perked. Rogues? She turned smoothly to look at Stormcrest. "Evidence of rogues you say?" She murmured, "I knew today would be a good day." It was weird, she looked almost pleased. Not because of the rogues but because she had the chance to do something interesting. This would be interesting, actual rogues or no. "Which border, Stormcrest?" Yes she knew the names of her clanmates. Most of 'em. The older ones anyway. The little ones weren't worth their salt until they'd been blooded.

Stormcrest blinked in surprise that Tawnytail knew her but shook it off. It did make her stand a little taller though. "Uh...the south border, I believe." the young warrior said after a moment of thought. She had been so thrown off that she was picking the patrol that she had almost forgotten where they were going. "I was going to ask Olivepool and Sumtracluck to come as well...I still need to find them though." Tawnytail had been the only cat she had been able to spot so far.

Post by Featherwing on Jun 4, 2017 22:42:35 GMT -5
Tawnytail nodded slowly, "A solid patrol" she meowed simply, not one to sugar coat things. The patrol would do it's job and find the rogues or not. For a while she would be entertained and then she would simply wait, again. Waiting was good, it taught patience. An alligator did not rush it's prey, it waited until it was in range and then struck. She would do the same. "We should find them, and get going. Sooner we leave, the sooner the rogues are confirmed."

"I agree." Stormcrest mewed with a short nod. "Could you..would you do me a favor and try to find Sumtracluck for me? Then I could go find Olivepool and we can meet back here until Mirestar is ready to go." It would be much easier to split up and find the rest of the patrol and, truthfully, she was eager to leave. A fight with some rogues would be exciting and it would give her a chance to show off her skills to some of the more respected clan members. And Mirestar himself, of course. This patrol could be a good opportunity for her.

"Acceptable" Tawnytail tilted her head, standing. She would find the cat in question, likely sleeping away as everyone did if they could. BayouClan could take a leaf from CalderaClan's book, and get up early. Though not many would share her perspective she did wonder what it would be like to awake at dawn and feel the sun on her fur. It would feel hideous, she imagined with a discrete scrunching of her nose. Padding back into camp, squeezing through the hole in the door, she gave the general area a sweep of her gaze, before heading in the direction of the warriors den.

(( mimikyutie)) Stormcrest watched the senior warrior leave before follow after her. She tried to keep an eye out for the familiar pelt of Olivepool but she hadn't seen her yet this morning. She let a frustrated little huff and decided to check around the fresh-kill pile for the missing she-cat.

"That was excellent!" Shadecreek exclaimed. She tried to keep an air of seriousness, but her excitement was obvious. "Rabbits aren't excactly the most common prey around here, so it's an impressive feat for someone your age. Make sure the others get to see your catch when we get back", she said with a blink of one eye. Her chest puffed slightly with pride, and her tail flicked happily. Being a mentor was considered an important task, the first way for a new warrior to prove its worth - except for battle, of course, but there hadn't been any of those lately. By raising her apprentice to be as competent as she had turned out to be today, Shadecreek hoped to prove her worth to the clan. Especially her older clanmates seemed to doubt her skills, even though she clearly was one of the most resourceful young warriors. "You did much better than last time, and it's good to see that you're able to learn from your mistakes."
Antpaw watched with what resembled disgust as Jaggedpaw wolfed down a vole. Her nose scruched at his manners, but she fought the urge to comment on them. Just because Jaggedpaw was making a complete fool of himself in front of his mentor, didn't mean that she was going to. Instead she flicked her tail at him in a repulsed manner, her thoughts of making friends gone in a second.
Mistytooth saw the deputy assembling a large patrol across camp, and twitched his tail in interest. As his apprentice was nowhere to be seen, he figured he didn't have anything better to do. Besides, he could see his little sister sending a fellow apprentice an annoyed look, and chuckled to himself. Ever since she had become an apprentice, they hadn't had much time to spend together, so he wouldn't mind joining her on a patrol. A friendly smile settling on his face, he padded over to Shadowstalker with agile steps. "Mind if I join you?" he asked her in a graceful manner, followed by a respectful dip of the head.
Also, can I just say I absolutely love Tawnytail? Her attitude and hardcore-ness, everything lol))

"Impressive? You..you think so?" Bogpaw murmured with wide eyes. No one had ever said she was impressive before. It made her feel...important. Slowly, a grin spread across her muzzle and she rubbed her face against Shadecreek's shoulder in a show of affection before swiftly pulling back with a shy flick of her ears. "S-Sorry, its just my first time actually catching a rabbit!" she purred. She tilted her head curiously as she looked up at her mentor. "Do you often catch rabbits, Shadecreek?"

The short-limbed she-cat watched as the feline walked away, her green eyes turning towards Mirestar. She let a soft purr escape from her chest, her ears perked as she looked up at him. Weaselbriar let her soft soprano voice lift, her tail curling around the tom's. "Is everything okay?" she asked, her head nuzzling up under the brown tom's chin. Her whispy fur fluffed up as the chilly air nipped at her, green eyes closing as she felt his heat radiating onto her. "If you ever need anything to sooth your senses, I'm always open to snuggles," she purred, nudging his chest before settling back down beside him. "I'm sure you're too busy to go on a walk later, correct?" she pondered allowed, ears perked.
----
Caimanpaw sat quietly in the camp, ignoring everybody around him. Not that he could even hear them or anything. The lazy feline perked his ears, letting his murky eyes burn through the building. He released a sigh from his lungs, his eyes closing as he rested his chin on his paws.
