((We could do that. If approved by brokendusk when they get back he could probably be Snake's to-be anyway.)) A large tom picked his way through the swamp, muzzle scrunching every time the mud squelched under his paws. Being here wasn't ideal, but he needed a new place to hunt. A toad hopped passed him, but he didn't chase it. He wasn't that hungry yet, and thought there had to be something meatier in here somewhere. A shrill cry let him know he was right, birds lived here too. He followed the sound until he saw the feathered prey, and dropped into a hunting crouch. It was harder to do in a swamp, but he tried his best and leapt out at the bird. Claws outstretched, he dug into the bird and brought it to him. It was small, not big enough to put up a good fight with the big cat, and he easily gave a finishing blow in the form of a bite. He found solid ground and got to cleaning off his meal. Yawning out of boredom, Snake went back to the main area of camp. She was sure Mist would be up by now, and she was ready to patrol the territory. Tail flicking behind her, she poked her head into the to-be den and looked around. Still snoring in the den, Mist was unaware that the sky had lit up. It wasn't until Snake poke in her head did he notice it was morning already. He jerked up as he found out he had overslept. I should not have let my mentor look for me! I should have woken up earlier! He thought angrily to himself.

"Oh good, there you are," she purred. "Grab something small to hold you over, we're patrolling." Trusting the to-be to finish getting up and follow her, the guard began to turn around already and head to the caught prey pile. ((My next month is probably going to be busy; 3 weeks of higher ups going on vacation so me having to come in to work earlier, and painting the house and redoing the floors at some point. So not sure how much I'll be on, but I'll be trying.))

((Okay...have fun on your vacation!
Mist hurriedly went to the fresh-kill pile and scooped up the first thing in sight. He expected to bite into something soft so was surprised when his teeth hit a solid yet fragile object and cracked it down. The unfamiliar taste of egg yolk washed his tongue and he widened his eyes in surprise, lowering his head to check what he actually ate. "Our prey-hunter found a bird nest this morning!?" he mewed loudly in surprise as he caught up with his mentor.

((Oh no, my vacation was a couple weeks back. I've spent this week working on cosplay until 10 am-12 pm instead of sleeping, then crashing massive before work at 8 pm.))
A small mrrow of laughter rumbled through the larger cat. "So they have," she purred. Her tail swished as headed to the edge of camp. She wasn't really hungry yet, and always felt better to eat after she'd done some work for the tribe. However, she did feel it was important for her young ward to keep his energy up before they went into the territory.

(Oh I see...sorry for misunderstanding) Mist stayed close to his mentor, looking around with widened eyes as they traveled around the territory. "Where are we going to check first?"

((No prob.))
"The east border looks like a good start," Snake said decidedly. Her eyes narrowed as she peered through the mist. Each step was careful as she tried to avoid stepping in deeper areas of muck. There was a faint scent that let her know that Bird had gone this way earlier.

Mist followed Snake obediently, aware of where he put each footstep. He did not like getting too wet, but there is no way they can stay dry by living in a swamp. He watched where Snake put her paws and followed each of her pawsteps.

((Alright, brokendusk should be back then too. She'll decide which cat is your mentor.))
It was rather quiet so far on the patrol, as usual. A few birds made calls, and Snake had to force her paws to stay on track rather than go after them. Not like she was any good at catching them. Looking ahead, she quietly spoke to Mist. "If you were to come upon a strange cat, what would you do?"

"I will figure out whether the cat would do harm to the tribe, and react upon it," Mist replied, thinking hard. "I will try to have a conversation with the stranger before launching my next move."

((Sorry, the need to sleep has finally started to catch up to me. Have not done much else outside of work))
Snake gave a slow nod. "And if the cat attacks you, instead of wanting to talk?" Her tail swished slow again.

"I'll teach them a lesson for trespassing," Mist replied with a growl. (I'm going to take my finals next week so I probably won't be on until then)

((I think we've all been pretty busy, so skin off anyone's bones I'm guessing brokendusk))
Knowing that talk was one thing, Snake spun as quick as she could in the muck. Half crouching, she moved to pounce at her apprentice.

Mist leaped up instinctively and unsheathed his claws to attack. "Hey! What are you doing!" he yowled as he delivered a blow. But before he landed his blows on Snake, he recognized that she wasn't an invader and tried to stop himself from hurting his mentor, however not too successfully. His claws scraped off a tuft of fur on her ear.

Ignoring the sting in her ear, Snake slipped back. "Testing you," she replied, orange eyes glinting with amusement and pride. "You passed." Just as she turned around, ear twitching from the small blow, something caught her attention. She sniffed and let out a low growl.
The rouge tom continued on his way, leaving a few bits of the bird in the open. He was still licking off tidbits from around his mouth when he saw a small tortoiseshell, and froze. He'd heard stories about a group of cats living in this forest and how they didn't take kindly to others. If she saw him it could mean trouble.
Tail flicking, Cloud started to crouch. Mud squished against his belly before he stood back up and picked up his right legs. He moved them forward and started to bring up his legs as soon as the right paws hit the mud's surface. His pattern continued as he began to move faster and to the left of Flower's side. When he was a tail-length away, he let all four paws hit the mud. Muscles bunched, he pushed and stretched out his legs in attempt to get airborne, but instead found his paws now stuck in the mud. The apprentice fell face first with a small splat.

Mist followed his mentor with his fur on their end. He would not hesitate to fight, but he was nervous for the unknown danger ahead of them. He carefully sniffed and looked up to his mentor with uncertainty. "Is that an unfamiliar cat scent?"

(( Scartail48 - If you make a character then I'm sure you'll be welcome.)) Snake nodded. She continued to sniff as she stalked toward the cat, and realized there was another scent. "It smells like they're near Bird, let's go," she ordered while taking off in a run. The rogue was turning away from the tortoiseshell, still hoping that she hadn't noticed him, when he saw two more cats. My day could get better, he thought with an irritated flick of his tail. Surely they knew the forest better, but he could still try to run, right?

Bird was enjoying being on her own until she found that she might have company. Fear clouded her thoughts as she thought of the possibility of being attacked. She was trained to be a prey-hunter, so she wasn't sure her fighting skills were good enough to fight off an invader. But before she break into a escape run, she calmed herself and pretended nothing happened, hoping that would help her avoid a fight.
Mist followed his mentor with his pelt pressed to the mud. He was furious about strange cats invading their territory. How dare they! he thought with his fur bristled. But he decided to act only by his mentor's words.

"We should just be able to either escort or chase him off. Try to avoid fighting when you can," Snake reminded her to-be as they neared the stranger. To quicken the pace she hopped in a low tree, using the branches to travel out of the mud.
In such a gross and unfamiliar territory, the rogue found himself easily lost. He thought he'd done good at getting away, he hadn't heard any pawsteps behind him after all. As he looked back to check, he lost footing and tumbled until he knocked into something solid and furry. Shaking his head, he looked up to see the tortoiseshell from earlier. I went in a circle?!
As the rogue was scrambling to his paws, Snake was reminding her to-be of what to do, "Try to talk them into being escorted out of the territory first. Yes we're trained to fight, but it's best to try to avoid injury." Of course, as she finished speaking they reached the area where their tribe-mate and the rogue were. Upon seeing the stranger fluffed up and close to Bird, the swamp guard assumed the worst and rushed in with a yowl. She crashed into the tom, claws digging into his flank.
((Bird is a magnet for tumbling cats. Also I have absolutely zero plans on this event, this post went through three revisions itself..so honestly go for anything.))

Mist quickly followed his mentor's moves, unsheathing his claws and launching himself onto the tom. He let out a furious yowl and tried to match his mentor's blows on the rogue. He didn't even notice if the rogue has fought back or not.
Bird was totally startled by the fighting scene. She jumped up and rushed into the camp. "There's a fight with a rogue on our territory!" she mewed loudly to cats that looked up. "Snake and Mist are there. Should we help?"
(I see, too bad Bird's a prey-hunter, or she could become a brilliant fighter after all those fights)
