@brambleisback mintedstar/fur(Sorry for long wait :'3 I nearly had a reply done earlier on my kindle, but my browser app closed on me and erased it.) "Most herbs aren't as foul as many believe them to be," Shadowstep told Mistmask, almost purring in amusement, also listening as Bramblewish explained the herbs "It's just cats who don't familiarise themselves getting intimidated by the mountain of knowledge it poses." Certain things tend to become undesirable if they're imposing a healthy amount of difficulty. After Bramblewish finished, he nodded, telling "Yes, you did do well. Just lose the moments of hesitation. Hesitation makes you think slower, which means seconds lost while saving a cat's life, which means they might die before you reach your solution. So, hesitation means more death." That of course wasn't true in the majority, but the point was that it was good to have the knowledge branded, so the better choices and decisions could come quicker when tending to someone, dying or not. Leaning down to look at the herbs, recalling the info himself, he glanced back at Mistmask to say "Learning to deal with and handle herbs like icky Gillyweed is a medicine cat's equivalent to a warrior learning to execute a difficult battle move. Hard and tiring, but rewarding in the end. If only poppy seeds could cure anything though, hm? Or that winning battles didn't call for so much violence."

"Alright," Droughtpaw agreed, crouching opposite of his mentor. "Where do we start?" Maybe I can think up a way out of this, he thought to himself. Or a way to make these moves easier. Though he'd never admit it to anyone but himself, he knew his fighting skills were lacking, and training with Pineflight was one of the only times he felt like the outsider he really was. If no one wants to be friends with me, and I can't fight, then what use am I to the clan?

" These moves will be easier for you because your smaller but remember no spikes. And no claws. We will start with the Foxes crawl. Jump onto a thorny or tree with lots of needles and use all your force to shed them onto the ground of the clearing. " He explianed briefly before giving a nod.

Confused, Droughtpaw leapt up onto one of the low-hanging branches. Feeling it bend under his wait, the apprentice unscathed his claws, digging them deep into the soft wood. "You want me to pull of the needles?" He asked, unsure of what his mentor wanted and all to conscious of his failing grip.

" Get on a sturdier branch. You don't want to fall ! And yes. Use your weight to make the needles fall " He shouts to the apprentice.

The apprentice nodded, his teeth grinding. Spotting a thicker branch, the tom made a wild leap, his front paws, barely catching the bark. On the plus side, his leap and scramble for grip had managed to knock quite a few needles off, and once the tom righted himself, he called down to his mentor, "Is that enough? Or do we need more?"

" That would be enough to hurt a few enemies ! " He looks at the pile. " Just some more and then leap down " He shouted once more.

Bouncing up and down to make more needles fall down, Droughtpaw felt completely ridiculous. He was sure that if he did this during a battle, his opponent was more likely to burst out laughing than be injured than a couple falling needles. Once he felt like he'd satisfied his mentor, the apprentice dropped back to the ground.

Bramblewish lowered her gaze for a moment, feeling guilty. "I know, I shouldn't have hesitated. When something really happens if I hesitated like that, it could mean a cat's life." She mewed solemnly, bringing herself to look back up at Shadowstep with renewed determination. "I'll try to remember next time, I promise it'll never happen again." She then promised with a very bold flicker in her hazel eyes. "I can even explain more of the things I collected for you. I know all of them!" The young medicine cat tried to prove herself as best as she could, maybe going a bit too far in terms of improving herself and making herself the best she could be. "I really do. And a I will lose those moments of hesitation when I get tested the next time. It'll be one of the things I focus on and practice until I know dry single one and can recite them perfectly well."

@brambleisback "Don't overthink it though," Shadowstep said, studying Bramblewish as he straightened up "I want you to remember everything, yes, but I don't want you to feel pressured, in terms that it might stress you out." He wanted his apprentice to memorize everything of course, but he didn't want her to feel like she had to prove herself to him or anything. "Everyone has to learn everything they know," Shadowstep spoke again "I was just like you when I was younger. Couldn't tell a poppy seed from a sunflower seed, even though they looked different. It's important to know your stuff, but it's better picked up when you aren't rushing or cramming. You have plenty of time, and hopefully you'll never have to tend to a cat who's in danger of losing their life." That wish was near impossible for medicine cats, but it didn't hurt to dream.

Mistmask found herself listening more to the interaction between Shadowstep and Bramblewish than to what Shadowstep had told her. But she nodded a little anyway, to show she had heard him. She pointed her paw at a random herb, figuring she'd at least try to be interested. "What does that one do?"

mintedstar/fur(It's okay) Shadowstep turned his white head toward Mistmask, smiling before answering the warrior "It's a poppy seed. Helps you feel better by easing your pain, and helps you sleep." He explained it much more smoothly than Bramblewish had talked earlier, not that it mattered. An ear twitched before he continued talking, saying "It's really sweet, but it only takes a few to work, so cats really should learn not to get their hopes up when they see them." Every clanmember he'd seen eat the seeds usually asked if they could have more, because they were sweet and actually tasted really good, but eating too many wasn't the smartest idea. "Have you ever had a thought about being a medicine cat?" Shadowstep asked Mistmask curiously "When you were a kit maybe? It's obvious you have no actual intention to become one now." Commonly, some thought about it when they were kits or apprentices, when their minds were more open.

Bramblewish gave a thoughtful nod at his response, but still knew that one day she would have to face an emergency and not look back. She took a deep breath, feeling slightly anxious but letting it out and assuring herself that this was the path she chose, and things would happen. Letting a little yawn slip from her mouth, the medicine cat apprentice watched as Shadowstep made conversation casually with Mistmask. She pondered over what the warrior would choose.

( That's fine! I'll post a starter for Puddle right now. ) Puddlesplash sat outside a den, but he was not exactly sure which one. He decided that at the present, it didn't matter because he was engaged in a wonderful debate that raged on in his head about whether kits or apprentices were better. Finally the conclusion was reached that kits were more appealing to him because they were fun to play with and didn't ask as many questions that he couldn't answer, unlike apprentices. A shudder wracked his body as he wondered how it would feel to have an apprentice of his own. He himself never paid much attention at that age, so he didn't have much to teach either. That would be embarrassing. Wait.. Wasn't there a patrol he was supposed to go on? Ehh... It was probably over now. And where was that half-eaten morsel of prey? Hmmm... He didn't really know where it had ended up. "Oh well.." The warrior muttered dreamily before deciding to continue to sit where he was and stay there. >>---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------<<
[sorry for replying so late! ]
Hailspots spotted Puddlesplash sitting mindlessly in camp, and padded over. She had grown to trust the simple and kind tom, and to earn her trust was something special. She didn't often trust anyone, but when someone had her trust she was the nicest cat there could be. She waved her medium length gray and white tail in a happy greeting. "Morning Puddlesplash." She purred.

( x.x My apologies. It sometimes takes me a little to find my motivation within a fan clan.)
Mistmask shook her head. "No, not really. I didn't know what I wanted to do as a kit, but I don't think I really ever considered being a medicine cat. If I remember right, I wanted to be..." she blushed a little. "A fox. So I could scare the other kits. Or something equally kitish." She laid back her ears, leaning down to sniff at the poppy seed. She wasn't planning on trying it, however, still full of distrust for anything medicine. "Later, I just wanted to be a warrior. Possibly a mentor in the future. Something like that."

The rain poured down on Pineflight as he walked through the forest. His fur was getting mangled , wet and becoming fairly dirty from rushing through mud. He looked at Droughtpaw. He was too skinny for a Thornclan Warrior or even an Apprentice. He needs to eat more. He thought. Before long he reached the foot of camp. " Droughtpaw. Do you want to go hunting today or tommorow morning ? Either doesn't really matter. You just need to get practice in " He says firmly

Puddlesplash didn't even realize that some cat had greeted him, until a few seconds later. He nearly jumped with surprise, but his fur flattened immediately when he realized it was just Hailspots. "Yes, erm.. Good morning. It's a very fine day out." The tom tried to make some conversation awkwardly, but really didn't know how to start anything. He was just glad that she was being quite nice to him, so it was set that he would be as nice as possible to her too. The thoughts of the things he lost and that debate in his head earlier drifted away as he spoke, probably forgotten.

"Yes, a little rain never killed anyone," she half-laughed. Her pelt was damp from the light drizzle of sun-high that had decided to barrage the sky. She herself had always loved the rain. She'd liked to consider herself a pretty good swimmer- always sneaking away from her parents to go swimming in the murky waters of the Birds Swamp when she had been younger.

"Uhm... You're right. I rather do like the rain myself, I suppose that's why I got the name I have now." Puddlesplash joked half-heartedly, blinking and looking at the silhouette of Hailspots in the rain. She looked a bit like a ghost, if he had ever seen one. A shudder ran through his body for a second but he brought himself back to reality and tried not to stray further into the realms of imagination, attempting to stay in this rare conversation for as long as he could.

Letting a little yawn slip from her mouth, the medicine cat apprentice watched as Shadowstep made conversation casually with Mistmask. She pondered over what the warrior would choose. "A fox?" the medicine cat purred in amusement "How peculiar, but I suppose we all have our dreams." Shadowstep once again took a moment to look at Bramblewish, gray eyes studying her again. With a sigh, he continued to Mistmask "You must excuse me, but I think it's time I got going. It seems I have even more herbs to sort, not that it's a bad thing." It was actually quite nice to talk to the warrior though. Then, he looked back at Bramblewish. "Head back to the medicine cat den, and I'll meet you there," he told her "I want to go get something from the kill pile first. Then I'll help you sort the herbs you collected, as well as the ones I'd brought in earlier." Plus, he wanted to toss a few more test questions on her too. He was probably one of the most annoying, and perhaps difficult, mentors at the moment, but that was simply how he acted. mintedstar/fur(I know I'm having Shadowstep leave Mistmask :'3 But if you want, I can have another cat rp with her?)

Bramblewish immediately dipped her head shortly before picking up what she had collected with a flourish and trotting away obediently to the medicine cat den without any hesitation. Once she arrived at the opening she quickly went inside, depositing her herbs and beginning to sort them in piles according to their proper typed without much difficulty. Shadowstep might be a demanding mentor, but she was sure it was for the best so she could be the best medicine cat she could be. Yawning, she decided to get to work as soon as possible so more things could be done afterwards. "Sorting, sorting..." She hummed to herself while getting to work promptly.

(Sure. Let's put Misty somewhere out and about.)
Mistmask was walking around the territory, pawsteps a little heavy since she was starting to become tired. But she thought that she should probably go walk around other than that hunting patrol early this morning. She looked up at the sky. It was still day, why was she tired? Maybe lazying around camp had caused her to feel more tired.

Hailspots gave a small chuckle. "I suppose you're right. I'm partially named after it as well." She said with a smile. The gray she-cat wondered faintly if there would be any prey out. She doubted that any potential meals would enjoy the rain as much as she did. Maybe some birds decided to come out for a drink.

Puddlesplash nodded slightly, and looked around camp as he watched the rain fall down. It seemed to be lightening up a bit, but maybe that was just what he thought. "Do you think we could maybe.... Umm... Hunt? The prey might not like the rain though and be hidden away. Let's hope it clears up soon." He let out a deep breath, relieved to have gotten this far through in the little chat. "But honestly, some animals do rather like the rain."
