Dusk nodded. "Correct. Now, we need to find some of that catmint. We also need some tansy, poppy seeds, cobwebs, and marigold."
>>----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------<<
"Ok," nodded Jay. "And we'd better get a couple of feathers..." Jay looked at his mentor. "The kits often need something to distract them when we pull thorns out of their paws."

Swift kept his head low. Though he managed to keep step with Squirrel, he couldn't hide how tired he felt; the fatigue was making him feel dizzy. Hopefully the other cats wouldn't notice - he'd hardly feel very useful then. "Bad weather on it's way, huh?" He meowed, wincing when his words came out slightly slurred. "Yeah." Squirrel tried to keep the slight pang of worry from her tone. Swift sounds really tired... Is he ok?

Fey that's okay. I'll just have to remove your cats then.

Finally out of camp, Swift let himself relax a little bit. Without the eyes of the whole tribe on him, he didn't need to be so tense. "Best get some good hunting done before it rains, then," he said, bounding forwards. Maybe some excercise would wake him up.
He sniffed the air carefully, trying to see what he could scent. Just like his other senses, his sense of smell felt muggy. Great, he thought glumly.

Squirrel narrowed her eyes in concentration, then excitement lit up her face and she turned to Swift. "It smells like a nest!" She suddenly realised her face was inches from Swift's and she felt embarrassment wash over her. Oops...

Swift turned to face Squirrel just as she did. The sudden proximity was startling - if he had better control over his body at that moment, he might have kept steadier. Instead he flinched backwards, nearly tripping over his own tail. Eyes blown wide, he started stammering. "Uh - yeah - mice! Haha." He couldn't smell a thing. "We should go! Uh, catch them!" Good job, he thought. Nearly trip over your tail, now you start tripping over your words.

"Good idea." She meowed approvingly. Dusk never would've thought of that. She just pulled it out quick, and let the faint mewls of pain die down after a few licks on the scruff. "I think I can smell some tansy over there. We're probably going to have to make a couple trips to get all the things we need. You think you can manage for a bit?"

She took two steps across the forest floor and a startling smell split the air. She took another cautious step and was suddenly hoisted into the air. Panicked, she scrabbled at the thing that was holding her; it looked like vines woven together in some weird way. "Swift!" she yowled in panic.

"Yeah. Hey, maybe if Squirrel and Swift catch any birds we can use the feathers from those." Jay realised his half-sister and the tom had been out for a while. "They should be back soon enough."

Swift could have sworn he jumped ten feet back. What in StarClan was this thing? Whatever it was, it didn't look like Squirrel was getting out any time soon. Probably some twoleg thing, he thought bitterly. Trying to regain his composure - and wake himself up enough to be useful - he crept closer, stretching up on his hind legs to get a better look.
"Are you okay?" He asked first, trying to hook a claw into one of the strange vines.

"Sure." Dusk replied. She flicked her tail, and trotted over to where she had smelt the bright yellow flower. Sure enough, there was a large clump of tansy growing in the roots of an old oak tree. She approached carefully. She grabbed a few of the flowers by the base of their stem, pulling out the roots as she slowly tore the plant from the ground. This should be more than enough to last a while. Still need to leave some so it can regrow. taking it out by the roots was a smarter idea. Then she could dig a crevice back home to plant it in. It would preserve the life of the flowers, though not long enough for it to sprout seeds.

Squirrel couldn't bring herself to finish.

Jay plucked some borage from a nearby patch. "Hey, Dusk, I had an idea. Why don't we replant some herbs all together nearer the camp? Then we can keep an eye on them and we won't have to go far to get fresh herbs..."

Swift rose up until only his back paws were on the ground, stretching up to his full length so he could properly reach the trap. "Stay calm," he meowed, keeping his voice low. His own heart was racing in fear for his Tribemate, but he wouldn't be any help if he starting panicking.
He jumped up onto the trap itself, careful not to claw Squirrel as he did so. The vines were too thick to claw through in one swipe, but he could work at it. He started to chew and scratch with his front legs, loosening the trap at the base. "I'm going to make a hole," he explained, his voice trembling. "You can - uh, you know, just try and jump through? When I've made it," The vines started to break the more he scratched at it. He heaved a sigh of relief.

"Hhmm. ats' a ought'." She meowed through a mouth full of tansy. She carefully set the flower down on the ground next to her. "I've tried it before you became my apprentice, but it doesn't seem to work. Maybe with the extra paws, it might just happen."

"That's a good idea, Jay." Dusk praised. Rarely did the older she-cat give out praise like such, but when she did it was well earned. "We should head back to camp really quickly to drop these off so we can carry some more back." She said, nodding to the tansy at her feet and the borage at his.

Swift winced and flinched, retracting his paw for the brief second before returning to the task at hand. "It's okay," he said quickly. His paw stung, but a cut paw was easily dealt with - if a twoleg came now, Squirrel would be in far worse trouble.
Soon a hole was beginning to form between the two of them. "You should be able to squeeze through soon,"

"Ok!" Jay was happy with the praise. He seldom heard her even say good job if he stopped a cat's paw from becoming infected.

Guilt still burned her pelt as she relived the moment in her mind when she had scratched his paw. Great way to win him over, Squirrel, she scolded herself mentally.

Soon the hole was cat-sized - or at least large enough for a cat to fit through. Still clinging on in case something happened, Swift leaned down to meow against Squirrel's ear. "Think you can try to get through?"

"Think you can try to get through?" Squirrel almost flinched. "I'll try." She began to wriggle through the hole. It caught around her middle and for a moment she was scared she was stuck, then she slipped through and tumbled to the ground, knocking the tom down with her. She ended the graceful movement by landing on top of Swift. "Sorry!" she mumbled, embarrassed by her own clumsiness.

Winded by the fall, Swift only wheezed back in response. His whiskers twitched in amusement - at least Squirrel was okay. "It's alright," he managed once his breath had returned.

Squirrel had already got off the crushed tom. "We should do some hunting, then tell Spike- I mean, Stoneteller- about this." Why do I always forget to call my father by his proper Tribe rank when I'm around other cats???

Swift nodded. "Yeah... It would be awful if you - I mean, I guess any cat - got trapped in another one - or if they were alone, and..." He shook his head, trying to clear it, looking up at the partially destroyed trap. "I hope there's nothing out there trying to get us."
