Rainflight dipped his head toward his apprentice as a thank you about cleaning the nests out. "I was not expecting you to do this until later, so I thank you," the tom meowed with a soft smile, then flicked his tail back towards the storage. "I just wanted to say that we are stocked up on everything besides poppies. I was hoping you'd like to go with me to collect some?"

"Oh! Sure, let me just get rid of the old moss!" Snailpaw squeaked, gathering up the dirty bedding and packing it into a tight wad, limping quickly out of the den to dispose of it. A minute later, she returned, skidding to a halt from running. "So, poppies, right!" The apprentice smiled cheerfully, feeling productive that day. Many cats would consider being a medicine cat boring, but surprisingly she enjoyed it much more. Not only did it not leave her extremely tired and worn after each day, (like her litter-mates), she got to go searching for plants that didn't run away from her.

Rainflight lifted his head, staring at her for a moment, then just walked past her as she returned. "Correct, we are searching for poppies. Just follow me and I'll show you where to go to find most herbs as well," he meowed softly, making his way out of the den. "Now, Snailpaw, can you tell me what poppies are used for? And do you know what they look like?" He glanced back at his apprentice expectantly.

She limped after him, her tail flicking behind her as she quietly listened to what he said. "Poppies? Well, um... they are used for helping cats sleep and.. calming them down? Oh! And you can't give them to nursing queens!" Snailpaw stated boldly, remembering what Rainflight had sternly told her. "They are tiny black seeds." The apprentice finished, nodding to herself, before looking at her mentor for a response with wide eyes.

Rainflight slowed down a bit so it wouldn't be too hard for her to keep up as they made their way across and out of camp. He nodded a thing her response. "Correct! Wow, you're a fast learner, aren't you? You're going to make a fine medicine cat," he praised, leading the way toward the river, heading to where he had last seen a few poppies sprouting up. He soon slowed down even more, eventually coming to a stop beside a few of the flowers. "Good they're still here. Now, we will only be collecting a few since we'd like for these to grow back next year. Now all we need is a leaf."

"Thank you.." She licked her chest fur in embarrassment, making sure she didn't step on one of the flowers when they came to a stop. "I'll get one." Snailpaw chirped, turning and skirting the area around them, until she found a big glossy fallen leaf. Gently picking it up by the stem between her teeth, the small she-cat brought it back to Rainflight, placing it down on the ground in front of him. "Is this one good?" She asked, tilting her head.

"Yes, that is good," Rainflight muttered, dipping his head before gently placing his paw on the leaf, dragging it closer to the plant. "Now we just need to carefully shake these seeds off and place them on the leaf, then we should be good to go! We could also take a poppy head with us," he muttered, tilting his head to one side as he studied the plant. "That idea might be better." He looked over st his apprentice, whiskers twitching slightly. "Sorry to make you get the leaf. Just follow my lead." He moved up to one of the many poppy flowers, tilting his head to the side and biting the stem, hen he backed away, now carrying the poppy head in his mouth. "Alright, grab one yourself, but be careful not to spill the seeds."

Mistpaw looked up, watching the other apprentice. She was about to follow when she saw Hickoryfoot shake her head. Mistpaw looked confused and looked over at Mosswing. "You might distract Brokenpaw or scare the bird if you both go up at the same time," Hickoryfoot explained. Mistpaw looked over at Mosswing again, wanting to check that that was right. Mosswing looked from the apprentice in the tree, then at Mistpaw, nodding her head. "You heard Hickoryfoot. Just get ready just in case Brokenpaw scares the bird and it flies this way," she said quietly, knowing that would be very unlikely. The bird would fly higher up. Brokenpaw finally reached the branch the bird was on, looking down at them, then at the animal. She wasn't really sure what to do now, so she just slowly crept closer, then pounced carefully, nearly loosing her balance. Unfortunately, the bird was startled and flew up into the trees. She looked down at the warriors. "...well that didn't work!" "Come back down now," said Hickoryfoot, looking up. "I don't want you falling from up there." She looked around, making sure there wasn't anything that would injure the apprentice if she did fall. The forest floor looked clear of rocks and boulders at least, though she might hit a few branches if she fell. Mistpaw sighed as the bird flew away. "Nice try!" she called up to he friend. She wondered if there was any other prey hanging around still, or if all the noise had scared it away.

Elmheart was glad when the river finally came into view. Without a look back, he bounded into it until he was up to his chest. Then he turned around, checking to see that the other cats were still with him. He paddled his feet to stay afloat. He was actually a really good swimmer. That was probably thanks to all Hickoryfoot's adventuring as an apprentice.

Snailpaw mewed quietly, blinking at the leaf. She nodded as Rainflight instructed her on how to pick a poppy flower, stalking over to one near her, and doing a sloppy replica of her mentor's actions as she tilted her head and nipped the stem. With the poppy head in her mouth, the apprentice looked back up at him, a few loose seeds sprinkling off as she moved, making her cringe. Snailpaw blinked again, assuming that was all they needed to get for the day.

mintedstar/furBrokenpaw nodded, beginning to carefully climb back down the tree. “Thanks,” she muttered as he soon reached the bottom of the trunk, sitting down. Mosswing smiled at them some, then looked away. “Well I think that this is enough training for today. Perhaps we could come back out later when the prey starts running again. What do you think, Hickoryfoot?” - lime(it’s fine, don’t worry about it.) Rainflight looked at his apprentice, whiskers twitching with amusement. He turned away from her and began leading the way back toward camp with the poppy head in his mouth. It would probably be best if he didn’t talk with the flower in his mouth, but he did so anyway. “This is it for now. Once we get back, we’ll just have to arrange a spot for these and then we’ll be done for the day,” he meowed quietly.

Snailpaw nodded, limping after Rainflight with her head tilted upward to keep anymore seeds from spilling, barely keeping up with the medicine cat. She lowered her head slightly so she could see as they neared the camp entrance, dancing through and trotting ahead to the medicine cat den, which she disappeared into with her poppy head.

Rainflight tried his best not to grin at his apprentice, but quickly followed after her, heading into the medicine cat den. He paused for a moment, allowing his eyes to adjust to the darkened den before heading for the herb storage. Quickly, he found an empty spot and set the poppy head down. "Alright Snailpaw," he meowed softly, dipping his head toward the space. "Set it down there, then I gah ink you deserve some prey."

Hickoryfoot walked over to Brokenpaw and said, "Not bad, as I said. We'll try again later." She gave a small smile.

Snailpaw's ears pricked at the mention of prey, and she quickly set the poppy head down next to her mentor's, looking up at him with large expectant eyes for him to say she could go get some fresh-kill. Like most young cats, she was always excited at the prospect of getting something to eat, in the wild it was to be expected. Indeed, other than that, life was simple for her, and she didn't wish for it to be any different. Timeclan born and raised, Timeclan cat until her last breath.

She grinned, turning and scampering out of the den to grab herself something from the fresh-kill pile. Snailpaw passed some other cats as she limped, and came to a stop at the small pile of prey. The small she-cat scrunched her face as she tried to decide what to get, but eventually settled on a vole, picking it up by the tail. It swung in her jaws. Her eyes scanned the camp for a place to eat, It looks like Brokenpaw isn't in camp right now Snailpaw thought, padding over to a small place in front of the apprentice den where cats her age typically ate.
