 It was the dead of the night, as the crickets settled in the grassy parts of the land, still chirping away while the distant sound of a wolf's howl was heard. A time like this was one that was common for FinchClan. Nothing was to worry about as the subdued silence settled in, just like the rest of the animals around had. But this night.. was going to be like no other; unless you counted those that were to come. It even felt like the silence could be deafening, even for those in a light slumber. The gloaming colors of the sky were comforting yet they held a daunting secret. Was tonight really going to be the night of troubles? Would it really bring a somber reality upon the cats of FinchClan? Only time could tell... Within the darkness and silence alike, a starry, pale furred feline rushed through the land above where the shining, seemingly small stars rested. The moon was close too, radiating on the dark surface below. Of course, there wasn't enough time for this pale feline to bask in the beauty of the night. "Fawnspeck!" the pale cat yowled while a loud pant boiled in their throat. This was so time consuming! A graceful, long-legged silhouette padded over to the voice, ears pricked and eyes dulled. "What is it, Mistythroat?" Fawnspeck mewed, stifling a yawn. Even cats in StarClan needed their sleep, especially with turmoil coming about.
"What's going on..?" Mistythroat asked, appearing especially younger than the she-cat before him, whose muzzle was grey and shoulders slouched forward.
"Don't tell me you don't know. You know what this means, right? The silence?" Giving a puzzled look, Mistythroat's cloudy blue eyes were filled with confusion. It was clear as day he didn't know what was happening and that only angered Fawnspeck.
Knowing she should keep her insults to a limit, Fawnspeck bit down before sighing dramatically. "The malady's going around, young one," she informed her, flicking her ripped tail-tip at the pale furred tom's pink nose. "If you don't remember what a malady is, it's a sickness. Death is to come upon FinchClan, Mistythroat. We cannot be the kind, loving beings we've always been. Our hearts ache for them, but.. we cannot show it."
"I've always wondered something, Fawnspeck. Why do they have to suffer this time? Instead of us? I would give anything to be in their place," The young tom confessed, swallowing loudly. It was almost like he was on the verge of yowling in protest as the emotions came at him in full force.
"It's not possible, dear. You've learned that in your short time here. Your clanmates will be fine as you are watching over them. Anguish cannot be avoided, unfortunately. It's apart of every day life, it is something we fear but must conquer. Do you understand?" The former medicine cat knew that she could have gone on forever about anything wistful, especially in times like these. That was one of the reasons he ran off to find Fawnspeck for she had an old, wise soul with enough knowledge to ease his worries. After letting out a shaky sigh, he gave a quick nod. He was too baffled by the situation to speak even as the rumors he'd heard among the other StarClan members fell upon his ears. The sounds of their whispers and meows made him shiver in fear, only leaving him to wonder what would come next. "It may be perplexing right now, but give it some time, Mistythroat. Let it settle in and by dusk, you won't be so much of a.. mess," Fawnspeck mewed, trying to reassure him. Dealing with younger cats wasn't her speciality, though she could only hope he would see the light in her words and agree. "Are you.. Are you sure, Fawnspeck? You were a deputy once; what was it like to watch over your clanmates and see them fall apart, one by one?" He asked, his tone sounding heavy with uncertainty. Surely she couldn't blame him for being so uneasy about the entire situation. Raising a free paw, the old deputy began grooming it before drawing it over a knicked ear. "It was hard at first, but as time went on, I began to realize that it was always apart of the circumstances. I wasn't going to let myself fall ill to the problems that my duties would bring me. So, I simply did what was best; I made my way through life, telling myself that we would make it, even if each time seemed like the last," letting out a sigh, she continued on, "It never was, and it never will be. FinchClan is stronger than ever before to face this malady. I know they can make it. Even with your recent departure, Mistythroat, they will find a way to thrive. I just know it." Listening to Fawnspeck was really his only hope. He knew that was right, even with part of him not wanting to accept it for turmoil was something he had dealt badly with in the past. He needed to be strong, for his clanmates.. for himself, and especially for Pricklepaw, his former apprentice. They were going to need all the help they could get which he knew very well. "Thank you, Fawnspeck. You've helped me see the true light, I really needed that," he meowed, clouded eyes glistening in the moonlight as he rubbed his head against her long legs. He truly appreciated how wise she was; her skills in being a deputy and a member of StarClan were impeccable. "Don't thank me just yet, Mistythroat. There's always more to come."  I know you don't usually see creator notes on roleplays, but I've decided to add one for several reasons. Let's get right to it, shall we?
Reason one: You MUST read the welcome and this (obviously). This is vital to the roleplay itself as the welcome explains vague details that the written plot will not include. If you haven't read it now, please go back and read it; I'd really appreciate it.
Reason two: As you know, I'm a moderator on this site and that means my attention to take care of things such as reports, inappropriate posts, etc. will come first. I will be selecting "aides" for this roleplay in case if I'm too busy with my moderator duties. I will inform you if anything comes about that may deal with my position or life. I would also like for you to do the same.
Reason three: Don't be intimidated. If you feel like someone here may judge you or you're possibly scared of me(this is probably impossible), realize that I'm not out to "get" you. This is a roleplay for a reason, a place for you to kick back, write, and enjoy it while doing so.
Reason four: There may be some sensitive themes to come in this roleplay, but those are normal in the Warriors world. If something bothers you, whether it's a sensitive theme or not, PM me. I'm always open to listening and helping out.
I think I've covered the reasons so far! Thank you for taking time to read this and join FinchClan! If you have questions or suggestions, anything really, please let me know.  Known for being overly observant, FinchClan cats have a few characteristics that are unique to them, and only them. An outsider that is not clanborn can be spotted easily, which sometimes creates tension between the two. Breeds such as the Japanese and American Bobtail, pixie bob, and Manx are fairly common, especially their unique trait of having a very short tail, even if having a tail at all. They are normally short or medium furred, some pelts being well-groomed and soft whereas others are shaggy and unkempt. As for size, toms are fairly medium to large while the she-cats are on the smaller size, though (rarely) some can almost match the size of a somewhat smaller tom. Demographics referring to any other physical traits / characteristics will be found below.
Common pelt colors: gingers, browns, calicos & tortoiseshells
Common eye colors: yellows & greens
Common prefix(es): Ginger, Wolf
Common suffix(es): -berry, -tuft
Common # of kittens born in one litter: three
Prey: mice, shrews, voles, & small birds such as blackbirds
Predators: foxes, badgers, wolves, & eagles. rogues are uncommon, though they are seen every few moons or so.
 With a vile sickness tearing through FinchClan, the only clear solution is rid the healthy of the sick, sparing lives that are not touched by the malady and tossing away the ones that are. By driving out the sick, those that are not ill have a chance at survival. Families will be torn apart by this decision as there is no cure to this deadly sickness. When a cat is on the verge of showing signs, they will be driven out to join the rest who have fallen ill, including those who have lost their lives.
But the cause of this hasn't been explained to you.. yet. Rogues came to the territory, terribly ill and weak, looking for a treatment when they stumbled upon a dawn patrol. Of course, desperate as they were, the rogues asked for help and were escorted back to camp. The leader of FinchClan, Cedarstar, found the situation to be suspicious even though it was clear the rogues were showing some signs of sickness. Not wanting to risk the clan's health and supplies, Cedarstar sent them away.
Little did she know that they would be back for revenge. Only a moon ago, two cats, Wrenflight and Shrewtooth, that were on that original dawn patrol had come down with a cough. Assuming it was greencough, the medicine cat, Mistythroat, gave them the normal herbs; feverfew and borage. Much to Mistythroat's surprise, the treatment did not work; the warriors grew feeble, their conditions turning for the worse. Three sunrises later, the two warriors had passed away, cause being the malady (sickness).
By this time, the realization had set in; the rogues that had came moons before were the instigators of it, spreading havoc among the clan, and leaving several dead already.. the medicine cat, Mistythroat, and two warriors: Wrenflight and Shrewtooth. There's no cure either, and the only solution is exile. Cats WILL die in this plot and that will be decided randomly, with a generator. Sickness Chart: this will be very helpful when reading the allegiances, please read before proceeding!
GOOD: shows that the character has not contracted the malady yet as they are at full health and showing no symptoms.
FAIR: shows that the character has some symptoms of the malady, but it is not serious/strong enough for exile unless otherwise decided by Cedarstar.
POOR/BAD: shows that the character has all symptoms of the malady, can no longer stay with healthy clanmates, and is therefore exiled.
CRITICAL & EXILED: shows that the character's condition has worsened as the symptoms have overcome them; they have been exiled from FinchClan and are now on their own or with another group of exiled cats. Unless a treatment is found, their death is anticipated.
DECEASED: shows that the character's condition has passed away; their form will be moved to the StarClan & Dark Forest section. Once this happens, you have the chance to claim a new character if desired. |

 FinchClan's territory is, oddly, massive. The reason why the founders picked such a large area is unknown, but a myth says it was to create more than one clan and then join them together in later generations. Of course, this didn't happen, though it's a fun fable to tell kits and apprentices. With flora and fauna of all kinds, it's amazing how the clan doesn't have much trouble in leaf-bare. Maybe it's because there's enough prey to go around? Or could it just simply be luck? It's another part of the unknown, much like what's outside of the borders. Elm Woods.. The deciduous part of FinchClanโs territory, these trees are not few and far between yet they are abundant and plentiful. Tall, full elms tower over the short canopy with maples, oaks, birch, beech, aspen, and some larch trees. As for shrubs, honeysuckles, ivys, moss, ferns, and, of course, wildflowers are found on the forest floor too. White-tailed deer are common to be seen wandering about, especially during new-leaf with their off-spring. They only eat the plants around, leaving enough prey for the felines who live nearby. These woods are met by another, full of a darker, ominous feel including its appearance. Though the hunting is split between the two, it is said the Moonlit Forest holds a dangerous predator.
Moonlit Forest.. As stated before, this part of the mixed forest holds danger and fear. Darkness looms over it the pines, cedars, firs, evergreens, and spruces, leaving the forest floor covered in needles. Hardly any light can force its way into the heavy canopy for the cedar trees tower over. Deep in the forest is a den, surrounded by two cedar trees while ferns sit before the entrance. This is known as the Wolvesโ Den where at least two to three wolves live currently. Cats are told to avoid this area unless a special patrol is sent out to check on the den. Otherwise, hunting is done in the safest areas possible to avoid run ins with the wolves. Thorn Meadow.. Not a far trip from camp, Thorn Meadow may sound like a meadow full of thorns. Fortunately, itโs not. Full of thriving wildflowers that sway slowly with the breeze, this meadow has tall grass with an old oak tree sitting (almost) directly in the middle. Before you get any closer to this tree, youโll see several thorn bushes surrounding it, creating a small circle. These bushes are around the oak tree to โprotectโ the finches that usually nest in it, especially during green-leaf and leaf-fall. It can also be a nice place to perch and watch the sunset/sunrise, but only if youโre skilled enough to not end up with thorns in your pelt.
Cavern Falls.. Seemingly mystical and lustrous, Cavern Falls is something one would see in their dreams or even StarClan. Blue as the sky on a mellow day, these waters glisten continuously even when the sun or moon isnโt shining. These falls are surrounded by dark vegetation and rocks. Thereโs not much to be done here, unless one craves a peaceful, serene environment. The waters cascade down from a set of rocks that arenโt too high, though not close enough in reach for a cat to climb. By following the trail from Cavern Falls, one will notice that it all leads to the same place; Clear Water Lake. Clear Water Lake & The River..As stunning as Clear Water Lake is, the amount of water it holds is concerning to some. It may appear dark and murky at times, though it's simply due to the amphibians that live in it along with plant life too. Not many pebbles or rocks surround the land, but cattails do; they are tall, large and sway in soft breeze. A small river pours out of Clear Water lake, and breaks the territory in half. This river has a bank, covered in little pebbles, cattails, and some grass that is strung along. Fish are not prominent compared to other rivers, though if desperate tiems do come, fishing becomes an essential. Swimming is also uncommon and it is not something apprentices learn in daily training. A majority of the time, apprentices have to request swimming training or they won't learn much about it. Finch Nesting Ground.. In a small area where deciduous and coniferous trees meet, is the Finch Nesting Ground. The grass and shrubs here look somewhat bare as the finches pick off of them for their nests. Cats usually leave this area alone as finches donโt like being disturbed and will not make a home with threats around. This landmark is considered sacred, as if itโs a gift to StarClan and those that founded FinchClan in the beginning. To give these birds peace, hunting a finch is forbidden and if one is caught or found dead, consequences await. The Abandoned Mineshaft..Rotted wood pressed back into a small hill, the Abandoned Mineshaft is ancient in many ways. It hasn't been touched by Twolegs in many, many moons and is slowly deteriorating on the outside. However, the inside is the complete opposite; it may appear cryptic and ominous to the naked eye, though thatโs completely wrong. Something glimmers in the dim light, leaving one to see a beauty of colored โlightsโ. Long, broken rails are found in the middle of the mineshaft along with a small, rusted mining cart. Not many cats explore the mineshaft due to the fact itโs dangerous as Twolegs left unsafe objects behind that could cause injuries. It's best to stay out and admire the view. The Wolves Den..Nearing Wolves Den is definitely daunting and risky; one must have a lot of bravery to even be close to this predator's home. This den uprooted part of a cedar tree, but since then, it the roots have curled underneath a large mound of padded dirt, rocks, and broken tree branches. Moss dangles down in front of the den, creating a drape-like effect for the wolves to hide behind. No cat has ever been into the den, so what's inside is unknown. Though wolves are expected to be taking shelter, the clan believes their pups may be living in the den too. Risking lives to a small pack of wolves isn't worth it, especially with a sickness about. The Moon Cavern..The StarClan place for the cats of FinchClan to share a conversation with their ancestors, the Moon Cavern is very sacred, and usually untouched. The walls are covered in claw marks while stalagmites rise out of the cave's floor and stalactites hang from the ceiling above. In the middle of the cavern is a dip, that comes down further than the rest of the floor. Ancient pawprints that were etched into the ground sit in a circle in the middle of the dip. The cats who visit the Moon Cavern to dream with StarClan sit in the dip and put their paws in the ancient prints. Moments after, they drift off to sleep and converse with their ancestors, learning new trades and secrets along the way. Camp..Hidden behind a row of deciduous trees is a small basin, that has a small inclination into the ground. This is FinchClan's camp which isn't too big nor small. If anything, less cats will be living here in the time to come. Once inside camp, you'll see one elm tree, two oak trees, a maple tree, two aspen trees, and a birch tree. Inside the hollow of the two oak trees that are located on the right side of the camp is a fern lined floor with moss nests on top. This first oak tree den is the warrior's den, which holds senior warriors and regular warriors. The second oak tree is the apprentice's den, which has senior apprentices and regular apprentices. On the left side of the camp are two aspen trees; they are lined with moss floor and have softer nests made out of feathers. These dens are the nursery and elder's den. Towards the back of camp are two trees; birch and elm. The birch tree is the leader's den, lined with ferns on the floor and a moss nest. A crack runs straight down the elm tree of the medicine cat's den. This elm tree is larger and wider, creating enough space for a separate spot where the medicine cat may store herbs and keep patients away from the entrance to the den. In the middle of camp is the fresh kill pile, which surrounds a young larch tree. This larch tree is used by the leader for clan meetings, ceremonies, etc. credit to @silvey for the map |

FOLLOW ALL FORUM RULES + THE RULES I'VE MADE HERE! Activity.. Activity is important here, though I'll be lenient with it due to the fact that my activity isn't perfect either. I'd like for you to try & be on three to four times a week. If you can't meet this requirement, I'd suggest you let me know beforehand -- if it's possible. I understand that school's going on + extra curricular activities, and possibly a job (if you have one), I do not expect your full focus to be on this roleplay. Your life comes first and this roleplay can wait. If you're more active, you'll be allowed to have a "higher" position such as deputy or medicine cat. I will be looking for people who I can trust and put the roleplay in their hands when I'm busy. Don't forget; your activity will be based off when you're roleplaying. Just popping in to say hello DOES NOT count. "Literacy" & Roleplaying.. This rule refers to what I'm going to expect in roleplay; you don't have to write me a book, by the way. At the least, I'd like you to be able to write a paragraph (5 - 7 sentences) or more. As for one-liners, they will not be tolerated. When it comes to roleplaying, please do it in 3rd person; it makes it easier on everyone. Meta-gaming, power-playing, spot-lighting, and god-modding will not be tolerated. If you are meta-gaming, powerplaying, spot-lighting, and/or god-modding, you will be warned to not do it again. If it continues, you will be removed from the roleplay. Do not try and start up a plot-line of your own without confirmation from the roleplay creator or an aide. I also expect you keep your roleplay posts clean, and not anything that would break forum rules or this set of rules. Characters & Joining.. Because this is a claim-a-cat, parts of the rules for characters you normally see won't apply. You are NOT allowed to turn the character(s) into mary-sues or anti-sues. That is not the purpose in this roleplay and it won't be tolerated either. I will be allowing LGBTQ+ relationships & characters. When joining, please make sure the character(s) you're going to claim are OPEN for claiming and not already claimed by someone else. You may only claim up to four characters when you first join, considering the plot deals with death; if you choose to have less than four characters, that's fine. I would like for genders to be "even", but I'm fine if there are a few (3 or 4) members with uneven genders. You may NOT claim the mate of one of your other characters unless they are ex-mates. If you plan on claiming a queen or a kit, you must see if their mate is claimed first; if the mate isn't claimed, you'll have to wait. Please remember to claim at least ONE warrior and an apprentice (if you plan on claiming one, that is.) Cedarstar | Camp Entrance -> Medicine Cat's Den | Mid-morning
Being a leader wasn't as smooth sailing as his mother interpreted it to be; it was grueling work, especially when a leader did not have their trusting sidekick.. A deputy. Fawnspeck had been gone for four moons now, and in the wake of her death, sickness took its place. Cedarstar had no time to pick a new deputy, let alone think of who he would choose to fulfill the duties tat Fawnspeck once had done so well. Not only was it hard without a deputy, but without a medicine cat too, the problems FinchClan was facing would be hard to recover from any time soon.
Letting out a shaky sigh, the chocolate tortoiseshell tom padded away from the camp entrance, where brambles were entangled around two small pine trees. He had been searching for a solution while he was out in the forest during the night, but nothing had come to mind. Maybe if he got an idea of what Pricklepaw was dealing with, he could solve the issues.. temporarily.
With his lissome figure swaying from side to side, he quickly sprinted to the medicine cat's den where the only scents present was that of herbs and a young cat. There wasn't much Cedarstar could say how he felt about the medicine cat apprentice; it wasn't part of his job to mentor and bond with the tom, rather it was to converse with him from time to time and make sure that his training was going well. However, he had more of a relationship with the deceased medicine cat, Mistythroat. Their families were close, especially their parents; they grew up together and their mothers were in the nursery around the same time too. Unfortunately, his parents passed before Mistythroat's, who only has a father alive. But now wasn't the time to be revelling on the past, he had work to do.
Pressing his muzzle against the moss covered entrance of the medicine cat's den, he decided it would be best to make his presence known to whomever was inside. "Pricklepaw, are you in here?" the leader asked, peering in. "Are you asleep? It's mid-morning now, you know.."
Now, he didn't want to intrude, but he simply wanted to speak to the medicine cat apprentice; which reminded him of something.. Pricklepaw's sensitivity.

Featherpaw found herself slowly landing back on her paws. She could just barely remember the fighting moves she had been taught in case she ever had to fight in a battle. She couldn't help but believe that this was a battle that shouldn't be fought in the first place. With her pelt bristling, her tail lashed from side to side as she hissed softly at the pretty she-cat. โAre you just going to stand there, or attack me?โ Though her new was a challenge, her blue eyes gave away how terrified she was to be in the position her father had led them into. This wasn't something a medicine cat apprentice should be in, never mind just being an apprentice.
Featherpaw shifted from paw to paw as she glanced towards her father, whom was being pinned to the ground by the Riverclan warrior while trying to kick at the apprentice with his hind legs. The dark pelted shecat knew she wouldn't be much help as her gaze shifted back to Dimpaw. Oh Starclan, why must I feel this way towards a cat I've never even talked to? I don't want to hurt her... Featherpaw took a paw step or two foreword, though made no move to attack. With her pelt fluffing out, she looked much like a kit in leaf bare, with all the snow falling into their camp while she tried keeping warm. But, this was her way of trying to make herself look bigger and more attack ready.
A yowl or two came from behind her; another Windclan patrol had joined them. It was Harespring and Smokepaw. Featherpaw watched as her sister launched herself at Dimpaw, and Harespring joined in on the attack on Breezepelt, jumping onto Pondjumper's back to give the Windclan warrior time to get up. Featherpaw wanted to shriek and yowl "stop" but the words were caught in her throat. So, instead, she flung herself on top of Smokepaw. "Stop it! This battle shouldn't be fought today!" She mewed desperately, but her sister disagreed, tossing her off and going for a blow to Dimpaw's head and muzzle.
