Snowpaw wished Maplepaw wasn't so shy. She was the only other she-cat around her age and Snowpaw just knew they would be the best of friends if she judged talked. "I'm sure you'll find her," Snowpaw purred. She limped over to the fresh kill pile and looked through it. She didn't find anything she would want so she sat down and washed her paws.

Rushleaf looked Hailstar with surprise, then nodded slowly. "If you'd prefer, sir. Which cats do you think would be a good match then? I'd really like the keep the borders checked though. Even if it's not for signs of trouble, but piece of mind." He said simply, his tail twitching slightly.
(How many lives does Hailstar have left?)

Hailstar shrugged. "I see your point, but leafbare would be upon us soon... Perhaps those on the hunting patrol could check on the borders? Not necessarily mark them, but more so just to make sure." He said quietly, knowing that his suggestion might've been faulty, but he didn't want his clan to starve if leafbare arrived early. "Your earlier suggestion of cats seem well to me. Perhaps the apprentice hunting patrol could wait a while."
(all 9 of them, i'd think lol_

Lynxpaw offered Maplepaw a small smile and suggested, "Maybe we could ask our mentors to train together?" he tilted his head slightly to the side and sat down in front of her, watching as Snowpaw padded away. "Only if you wanted to, that is." he added.
Bluesplash emerged from his den, yawning and shaking out his pelt. He padded across to the fresh-kill pile, not having eaten since yesterday. "Hello, Snowpaw." he meowed to his apprentice as he approached, settling down a little ways away with a mouse in his jaws. "Maybe we could go gathering herbs later?" he asked, beginning to eat.

Snowpaw smiled at her mentor. "Sure Bluesplash!" She purred, springing to her feet. "I'm ready whenever you are!" She licked a patch of fur that was sticking up and looked at Lynxpaw, wishing she didn't have the feeling she did. She wished she could be a normal medicine cat.

(And I have arrived! XD))
Shortflame was up and moving around already. He figured that Milksky would
be waking up soon so he grabbed two mice, one for himself and one for
Milksky. Padding into the nursery he dropped one by her nest.
Milksky stretched slowly, cautious in awaking her kits. She looked up at her
brother and a purr rumbled softly in her throat.
"Thanks. I don't think I could get up if I wanted to, the kits would
wake up."
"I know. That's why I brought this for you. It's a nice sized mouse.
I think I recall these being your favorite?"
"They're fun to catch, and taste good, mouse was a good choice."
She mumbled before digging into the mouse, eating it quickly due to being
hungry upon waking up.
"Mm. That's true. I think I've got to go on a hunting patrol later.
Anything in particular you'd like I catch?"
"Something big. Maybe a rabbit if you find a burrow?"
"Mm, perhaps. Well I'll be going. Stay warm."
Shortflame turned and padded out of the nursery and towards the middle of
the camp to sit down and look around at everyone wandering around.

Maplepaw nodded shakily, nervousness obvious in her demeanor. "U-um, sure! But I'm not sure if, uh, Cloudwing is awake yet. It's still pretty early..." She meowed, watching Lynxpaw before smiling sheepishly. "Maybe we can eat something? Y-you know, before we go out."

"I personally think you should all eat before bothering your mentors."
Shortflame's voice piped from behind the group. He trotted forward and sat down.
"To bother them before you're even ready to leave would be rude.
Hello everyone."
The male dipped his head in greeting before allowing his tail to swish in the air
lazily. He awaited the day he could be a mentor. Maybe he would get to mentor
one of his sister's kits? Maybe not. Ah well.

Hailstar's gaze shifted away from his deputy and instead onto Shortflame. "Hello." He meowed with a small nod, then glancing at Maplepaw and Lynxpaw. "Shortflame is right. Grab something to eat, enjoy it while it's plentiful; I'm sure your mentors will take you two out soon enough." His eyes then shifted onto Shortflame yet again. "Shortflame, would you go on a hunting patrol? Maybe take those two apprentices out for some much needed hunting."

"I could take one, but to take two I'd need either
one of their mentors or another warrior. It'd simply
be safer for the both of them if they each had
someone watching over solely them."
He spoke gently to the clan leader, his voice remaining level
to reassure he wasn't trying to usurp authority, but rather
just lay down his thoughts.
"Once one of their mentors wake up, I'd be glad to
go on the hunting patrol."

"I wouldn't want to keep them waiting." He meowed, "But if they aren't awake soon, please find another warrior to accompany you in taking them out." Hailstar then nodded, understanding the tom's concern, and sighing. "I sure hope leafbare isn't harsh on us. Not that we wouldn't make through it, but with Milksky's kits, I wouldn't want anything threatening their wellbeing."
Maplepaw had been standing near Shortflame, Hailstar, and the deputy. He ears twitced as she realized that they'd be going out in a while, and she couldn't help but feel her paws itch with excitement and anxiety. She wasn't one to love venturing off, especially not without her brother, but she had to detach herself. Sooner or later, something would happen, and she'd be without family. The small apprentice sighed shakily before glancing back at Ashengaze, who was speaking to his friend, Stormstride.

"Certainly."
He meowed in response, grooming the front of his
fur down as he listened. His ear flicked at what
Hailstar said next.
"I wouldn't either. But they've lived four
moons now, so hopefully they'll survive the
winter and become apprentices soon
enough."
Shortflame could practically cut through Maplepaw's
anxiety with a claw it was so thick. He snorted
quietly and tapped her flank with his tail.
"Relax. If you're so anxious why don't you
use some of that energy and go wake up
your mentor? Or eat like I suggested?"

Bluesplash purred and nodded, finishing up his meal and licking his lips as he sat up. "Just give me a moment to check our stores again and then I'll be ready to leave." he meowed to Snowpaw before turning and padding back toward the medicine den. "We're low on chervil and feverfew." he muttered to himself, picking up one of each and rolling them together in a bundle to help them remember the scent. He trotted back over to Snowpaw with the herbs between his teeth.
Lynxpaw nodded at Maplepaw's suggestion and padded closer to the fresh-kill pile, glancing at her over his shoulder to see if she was coming as well. He chose a sparrow and crouched down to eat, glancing around for his mentor.
